    I was scared as shit of wet sanding before... Bought an A5 from Germany, and it came all banged up, so the choice was between sanding everything to make it look good, or paint booth.
    So I let go of my fear, and sanded the whole thing... Turned out great! Clips like these really help DIY people, not to mention that most detailers don't have the guts to sand panels.

      All year round but especially in winter the best thing you can do for your car is put gyeon wet coat or carpro hydr light on it

      A nice space helps but the final product you turn out matters more than the shop you do it in. Think rocky. He trained in bad gyms and won. Then trained in glamorous gyms and lost. The work you put in matters more than the environment you do it in.
      Ideally you have excellent work going in and a great environment. If your starting environment is clean and has good lights your set to start 👍

    Love these videos. I'm not even a detailer. I lease upper end normal cars ever 3 years like Infiniti, Audi, etc. Just got a new A5 and with 100 miles on the car, got 3 chips on the hood. I have OCD and want everything to be perfect. Car is totaled now. 😅. Tried my best to light sand it and touch it up, then sand and polish. It was tough due to the location and couldn't use any type of block but it came out better than it was.
    Its nice to see someone that has this level and attention to detail on other people's cars. If it one thing I can't stand is the old "it's good enough" from companies/people doing work on cars.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  9 місяців тому

      "it's totalled" lolol.
      If your leasing it won't make as much sense. But if it really bothers you a lot then PPF right away will give your eyes and brain some relaxation for 3 years.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  9 місяців тому +1

      I think I did like 2500 then maybe a little 3000. Sometimes I go lower. This was filmed awhile ago so I don't fully remember the grade paper it was.
      In general sanding is similar to paint correction least aggressive method first. So if I can do a high number sandpaper first and get the results that's great. Some people are going to want to go right to like 1,000 and then try and sand the 1000 out with 3000. But sometimes 3 is all you need then just compound.

    When you do the 2nd post polishing wash, do you only foam it and rinse? Or do you also contact wash again? And also how do you dry it?
    Also do you have a video uploaded precisely on how to wet sand?

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  9 місяців тому +1

      No video on wet sanding. KXK dynamics has great sanding information.
      Typically it's rinse. Foam. Rinse. Blow dry. Then gently wipe down with panel prep. PPF or ceramic follows.
      Contact can be done but depends how dirty the car is. Compound dust that is days old sometimes sticks more. Light polishing dust should just rinse away.

    Hi Evan! I'm an owner of a 2017 BMW M4 Competition. I am a long time subscriber and I just wanted to ask you if I should do a PPF install on my car. I use my car regurarly, it's a daily driver, it's my only car. I drive it on the highway, I go 4-5 times a year on a longer trip (1400 miles back and forth) and I am not planning selling the car. It's my dream car and I want to keep as long as I can. Btw I am based in Austria.

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  9 місяців тому +1

      Hello to you in Austria!
      If you're going to keep a car forever then PPF tends to be a pretty good idea.
      Based on the details you've already given me I would guess the hood fenders rocker panels and front bumper likely have a good amount of road rash and chips already.
      At some point in time if you respray anything that has major defects in it make sure you let it cure for 30 days and then have PPF put on the entire front. Typically speaking cars Don't get too many rock ships on the doors rear fenders trunk lid and rear bumper. So you could do full body at that point if you were interested.
      In my opinion it's not a great idea to put PPF over a panel with multiple chips and bangs It just won't look very good unless we're only talking about a few here and there.
      If the stage you're at right now I would highly recommend a great paint correction and a ceramic coating on the outside.
      But if it's coming up on that time and you're ready to go through the whole process respray what needs to be sprayed and then do your PPF 👍
      I hope that helps. Greetings from the USA🤝

    • @Stilo95
      @Stilo95 9 місяців тому +1

      @@STATUSDETAIL On the hood I have one small rock chip, on the front bumper two smaller on both sides. Where the side skirts start just behind the wheel that area is rough...I still have the factory PPF on the rear fenders in front of the rear wheels. That started to get yellowish which I suppose it's normal.
      Would you recommend using a paint pen to correct the rock chips? I'm not keen on respraying the whole front bumper and the hood 😁

    • @STATUSDETAIL
      @STATUSDETAIL  9 місяців тому +1

      @@Stilo95 you can definitely do touch up paint.
      A local PPF shop might even put a random scrap over some of the more damaged spots just to show you how it looks so you would understand the final product better. At the milage your talking about I'm sure you have lots of little hits and ppf will magnify that.
