@@GRIBSOFT great video, but how do i know if this is my problem? i have this model imac and i powered it off, unplugged it for 8 hours and now it has no life and won't turn on at all
Excellent video. I followed it just now to replace the power supply on a 2011 21.5” model. Worked like a charm. The data connector on the 2011 model screen is smaller and more fiddly than the one in the clip but the idea and procedure is the same. $50 for a used power supply on eBay, $7 for the suction cups for the screen, the torx drivers I already had, a lot cheaper than a replacement computer.
Bro! Thank you so very much. I greatly appreciate your video. I was so nervous personally about being able to replace my power supply in my iMac when it just started powering my iMac down. Once I acquired all the tools and part, I found your video which is literally the most helpful and easiest tutorial to follow and my iMac is back up and running! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. this is legit the best tutorial that actually helps i've been searching for multiple but only managed to get the lcd off with what i hope is minimal damage to where a wire connects but if only I had found your video first it seriously makes things so much clearer thanks :D this will certainly help me.
What brand of power supply would you recommend? I've heard the 'Lite-On' make recommended for 17" iMacs but I haven't seen any for the 21.5. If you get a chance to answer it would be much appreciated.
Must be a lot of different iMacs in those years. My 2010 was a lot different inside than this one. Two of the large ribbon cables could not be disconnected from the screen side. I had to work around the screen to get to the power supply.
hi Thank you for the video. I've got a dead iMac 21", bought a pair of suction tools and the power supply, and pulled out the screen. But soon encountered a problem around 33 sec of your movie: after successfully pulling up the top two cover, I cannot even unplug the lower part of the screen! I don't know what's going on, but it seems that the lower magenet or something got in the way to prevent me from pulling it out. Not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions? many thx!

Im in the same boat. I have already bought a new imac at this point. I was just trying to figure out if i should spend the extra money to attempt to fix this imac. Hi! Good video. My iMac 2009, is totally dead, no sounds or lights when pushing the start button. I've accessed the PSU. AC power is going in. The mother board LED 1 lights up (when the AC power is connected to the iMac). DC out put (COM is 1) - No 2, 7, 8, 9 indicates 12V, No 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 has Zero Volts. Is this the PSU or something else? Appreciate your export opinion. Thank you
I’ve always heard that you shouldn’t touch the front of the power supply where all the connections are soldered to avoid shock. Is that true? Or will you only get shocked if you start messing around with the capacitors? I see on the video you grab it without Rubber gloves and touch the front side of the power supply unit.
Nice simple video! I have a 2009 iMac 27, suddenly today it will just not turn on (no sounds, no beeps, no fans, no response at all). We just had a power outage during a storm and I'm not certain if i need a power supply or the main board... (it is plugged into a $50 surge protector). My only clue that i might need the main board is because one diagnostic green light is on when plugged in (looking from underneath on the inside) which indicates power supply is getting power right? how can i tell??
I have 1,2,3 led lights on. On start up I hear the initial click but no chime. Black screen. Fan runs normally. Could Power Supply work partially to trick me it's something else wrong?
Hi, thanks for posting the helpful videos. For the past couple of months my imac had an issue, it would shut down suddenly after 15 mins sometimes 10 or 5 mins, until it stopped working at all (no power whatsoever). I ordered a used power supply online because i assumed that if there's no power, it must be the power supply. I replaced it and still no power(no sound, light or fan) nothing. I'm not sure if the power supply that i bought was not functioning or the cause is something else. I also don't know how to test a functionality of a power supply with a multimeter. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you
