- Greetings and welcome back to another video, and in today's adventure we are going to be flying from here in Adelaide up to Singapore with Singapore airlines on their 787 in economy. Now it has been 5 years since I have flown with Singapore Airlines so I was really looking forward to this trip. The video will start at Adelaide Airport, where we will board the 787-10 Dreamliner. I provide information regarding the aircraft and the particular specs for the Singapore 787 cabin we will be seated in today. After takeoff and a turbulent climb up to cruising altitude we finally get our first meals of the flight. We finally leave the coast of Australia behind and then fly directly over Bali, shortly after receiving our second meal service for the flight. We touch down at Singapore Changi International Airport ahead of schedule.

Awesome video - nice to see a SA UA-camr! So glad we have a direct route with Singapore
@@Alex-os5co Thanks Alex! Yeah likewise. Looking forward to other international routes coming back to Adelaide as well, which will hopefully be in the next 6 months or so.
Awesome ! Great presentation.
I have been travelling with SQ from Adelaide thrice a year. No complaints.
@@smraybould I appreciate the comment! Cheers!
I flew Singapore Airlines 787 in April from Adelaide to Singapore going to Phuket, great aeroplane
@@Adeladian Yeah I liked the 787-10 aswell 👍
Great video Luke! Looking forward to the future videos on this trip
Thanks 👍
Thanks for this video Luke. Im actually flying this exact route on September 13th from Adelaide to London via Singapore.
@@chelseab924 No worries! Awesome, enjoy the flights! ✈️
@@LukeCrisp thanks. I'm wondering if you have any tips for a long haul flight to avoid Jetlag
@@chelseab924 Not really Chelsea. It all depends how well you can sleep on a plane… if you arrive early into London try waiting until the arvo to get a couple hours sleep… then wait until local late time to properly sleep… but we are all different so that works for me but may not for you… drink plenty of water on the plane as well, we lose a lot of fluids on planes and especially on long haul! So drink up!
SQ are getting a little paranoid with turbulence. We had many times they put the seat belt sign, the service suspended and nothing happened. Several times I peered out the window and the sky was absolutely clear. Clear air turbulence is totally unpredictable so you just have to wing it and go with the flow.
@@PWC67 Yeah they did that with us also… but I suppose after that death on board they don’t want anymore media having a crack at the airline. Depends if other aircraft reported turbulence in the area also… doesn’t bother me too much… I barely get up… maybe once or twice… only down side I suppose is the suspended service.
I use Singapore Airlines when I fly Adelaide, Singapore, Cebu & return, can't get any better service like Singapore Airlines. Gr8 service from all staff on board
@@robo113603 Thanks for the comment Lyall 👍
The 10 weekly flights to SIN is only seasonal for southern summer. Come autumn / winter, they go back to 7 weekly. Last time I flew SQ from ADL was in 2013 in the A330! It's so bloody expensive to fly international from ADL though. So for the price you paid, that actually seems pretty great! SQ's meals seem to have shrunk significantly though, suppose it's in line with what's happening in the industry.
Didn’t see any mention of those 10 weekly flights stopping in the numerous articles I read. So it will start in October and end at the end of our Summer February 2025? I know they had additional added the most recent summer between Dec 23 and Jan 24 but from my understand this 10 weekly was a set in stone kind of thing.
Yeah it’s not cheap flying SQ… I used to get decent deals up to China at one point but then got onto QF points so stopped flying SQ.
@@LukeCrisp yeah for some reason, SQ can't seem to make Adelaide work with 14 weekly flights - the only OZ capital city to be like that. I'm flying to china too in a couple of weeks to Guangzhou with China Southern... From MEL of course. Hehehe.... Guess what? I have Japan and Taiwan planned too in November! 🤣
@@ryansofly haha I’ll be interested to see if all this hype I have read is just seasonal because the writers certainly didn’t convey that msg. I have China Southern in a little over a week - Guangzhou.. then onto Hefei. Never flown them so looking forward to it! Enjoy your trip!
Great Video once again Luke! Enjoy your travels and can’t wait to see the other videos!! 😊
Thanks Aidyn! 👍
Great vid! I’ll be catching this flight in 2 weeks 😊
Thanks Dan! Enjoy the flight 👍
Dude what a solid review, wish everyone reviewed like this.
@@LukeWatson99 I appreciate the comment man! Cheers 👍
Great video, Luke! Singapore seems to always have great service which is so nice. Sorry about all the turbulence at the beginning of the flight. I'm everyone was a bit on edge after what happened on the other flight with the severe turbulence. Glad it smoothed out eventually. The food looked great on the flight and how nice to have Wifi as well! Hope you enjoyed your time in Thailand.
Hey Michael, Thailand was great! I appreciate the comment! Cheers 👍
Can't beat SQ great hospitality
Definitely a standout!
I love Adelaide ! ❤
@@Sam-yd9uq As do I!
I last flew with Singapore from Adelaide in 2011 when they were using an A330 airbus
@@tafnamtaf8909 I have also flown on their A330 from Adelaide to Singapore when that was being used… much happier with the current 787 though.
After having a passenger reclining in my lap (almost), I swear only exit row seats for me despite its limitations (narrow, hunt for overhead space), it’s worth the extra just to have breathing room.
Hello Luke how are you doing mate.I am happy that a new trip adventure has started for you.Beautiful plane that 787-10.I have never flown on a 787 but I am always amazed of how quiet that plane is even on take off with the throttles up and the amazing wing flexibility.See you on the next one mate, cheers from pretty hot Athens(almost 40 degrees already)
Hey Yannis I am well mate, hope all is well over in Athens. Yeah they are interesting planes… lots of hydraulic noises and always love seen the wing flex as much as they do on the 787s. 40! Wow… happy with the average of 30 where I am currently in Thailand mate. Cheers 👍
I already booked my flight ticket from China back to Adelaide with Singapore Airline. 😁
This I know haha
Great video Luke
You always get great prices for the flights
@@smarthydroponics I try my best to do as much research as I can… just happened to work out that SQ was going to be the best option. Cheers 👍
Editing is amazing dude!! Keep it up!! 😍
Thank you! I appreciate the comment.
Recently took this SQ flight about a month ago too! However, I also went from SIN to CPH on their A350 directly afterwards and I much prefer their Dreamliner!
@@AlecxReid All the way to CPH… that’s some long hours flying. That’s interesting as I was hoping to get on an a350 back when they were operating them out of Adelaide. 787-10 was good though!
@@LukeCrisp The thing that left me disappointed with SQ is that their SIN-CPH service was a bit of a mess really. Their A350 lacked what the 787-10 had in terms of pax functionality. My inflight entertainment was only half of what I had on the 787-10, and with it being a 13H flight, I expected more.
I’m surprised at your special menu . I had vegetarian meals coming back from CPH to Adelaide because I was allergic to some ingredients they had in their general menu, and they were great ex CPH, but ex SIN they were absolutely horrible… :( The breakfast I was served on my SIN-ADL flight was practically uneatable :/
@@AlecxReid Yeah ok wow! You know the flight after this was a short hop up to Phuket on a 737 with SQ… I was given a “special meal”…. And 6 hours later I had food poisoning….
Similar… the 787-10 flight was good but the 737 after wasn’t that good at all. I’ve heard from others as well that they have dropped there game in areas…. But yeah surprised to hear about the a350… I mainly wanted to fly SQ on one as I love the aircraft.
@@LukeCrisp I honestly feel they have dropped the ball on Long Haul. I’d flown SQ because everyone was telling me how good they were, and they did live up to that name on the ADL-SIN route. But SIN-CPH? My flight left late, the food was okay. Some of the crew looked like they preferred to be elsewhere.
I think SQ need to make better accomodations for those with food requests ex SIN in any direction. They also need to make available the menus too. Had I known the food was going to be bad on my flight back home to ADL, I would have stocked up more at the 7/11 @ Changi.
@@AlecxReid Yeah the food changes for different regions unfortunately. Yeah I think for the majority SQ was great until recently… but for those of us with dietary requirements it’s always been a nightmare… atleast for myself…
One time there was a mistake and they didn’t even have anything apart from a banana to give me, so thankfully the passenger next to me gave me some of his meal that was GF 🤦♂️
Great video. Subscribed to your channel!
I appreciate the comment and the sub! Cheers 👍
Great Review Luke, impressed you got this one out on the go! Still looks like a solid experience on SIA. Be interested to see your next review to Phuket is like to see whether the significant premium over Jetstar and Air Asia is really worth it for SEA short haul!
I’m Heading up there next week but was shocked how expensive SQ was so couldn’t justify it at over $1000 each way for one of the 4 daily Perth to Singapore flights for the dates I wanted. Settled for Scoot Plus for $640 which was only marginally more than economy with no inclusions so I’m very curious to see what poor man’s business class is like!
Hey Stephen! Yeah trying to pump them out on the go with this trip… learned from my mistake last year. Much harder to edit when it’s been weeks/months.. better being fresh in the mind.
Thankfully as I paid $705 for the 2 legs - ADL-SIN-HKT it ate into the cost a bit… not too sure what the one way direct would be on its own but I’ll definitely considering chatting about that.
$1k is bloody expensive!!! My Mrs Cindy even just bought a flight from Shanghai to Adelaide (Via SIN) for around $800…
Ohhh yeah I couldn’t fly Scoot economy again unless it was for a video and I was trying to put myself through the trenches 😆
Keen to see that one for sure! Cheers for the comment mate! 👍
My son and his girlfriend flew on this flight a week after you and then took an A380 from Singapore to London
@@tafnamtaf8909 Hopefully they enjoyed the flights! Long hours over to London! Cheers for the comment
Can’t believe we wasted money for Business class on SQ. It wasn’t anything special. The economy or premium economy would have been okay.
@@PWC67 I personally wouldn’t spend money in general, just frequent flyer points for business class. I can’t justify spending thousands on the seats.
Good review. 🙌
@@FromtheWindowSeat Thanks 👍
hi were they strict with the checked bag weight. Did you check any bags
Didn’t have any checked luggage… so no idea… I’d always go under limit to be sure.
In Adelaide it’s now all done with kiosk/bag drop. I always keep my checkin and cabin baggage under the limit. Play it safe!
I love SQ Service and their aircraft Also price point for a legacy carrier can at times be much cheaper or just a tad more expensive than some of the so called LCC when you add in meals FF points luggage etc and for a tiny bit extra the peace of mind if changing flights or dates etc Re Phuket ( shudder) watch out for the Russian Mafia mate they have taken over the place Taiwan I love especially EVA air also 787.10and much better food than even SQ But the weirdest safety demo I have ever seen Happy and safe trvels to you both . Tongue in cheek a bit sq wing slighty better looking than some of the Scoot 787 s eh Cheers
Yeah just got out of Phuket yesterday.. up in Bangkok at the moment.. way better up here.. was keen to check out Phuket but I don’t see myself returning. Cheers phil! All the best
I have used SQ since the 1990s Adelaide to Singapore/Bangkok. They used A330s and A350s. My last trip in May was on the 787 and I was unaware of this change until at the Airport. I will now use the opposition as I will not go on Boeing aircraft given all the problems they are having, if they are expanding to ten flights per week the A350s should be brought back for both comfort and safety. I had travelled on 787 before all the Boeing issues arose but I never found the dream. The crews are great but I disagree with the airlines management. Also during Covid and since the meals ex Adelaide have deteriorated. Even extra cost to go via Melbourne will be preferred.
I’m in Japan right now, flew Malaysia airlines from Adelaide .. I rather Singapore air line
I’ve never flown Malaysia in a long haul sense… possibly will give them a try one day. Nice mate, I’ll be in Japan in a few weeks.. first time so looking forward to it.
SQ are in the shit for not diverting when all other planes did during that mid air turbulence debacle. Hope the families get some justice if proven. Singapore have a lot to answer for and let us see what the result is !
@@PWC67 I was unaware of this and just read a few articles. Pretty big stuff up! I did read seat belt signs were on though? (No excuse of course for potentially flying into a storm, if that was the case). I wasn’t there so I will not speculate… but yes, will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
