I recall reading in the comments that Puffin originally had the town be placed in Nevada, but the players instead went to Utah. As far as Saloons, the US government kinda stationed some soldiers near Utah Cities to keep order, and they brought with them... you know, the things soldiers generally want. This along with other circumstances kinda turned it into the stereotypical Wild West. So the existence of a Saloon isn't very far fetched. As far as at every corner there's a preacher, its definitely more exaggerated (and we hardly ever have preachers anymore, they tend to make people more annoyed than anything else in the modern era) but could happen, the concentration of Missionaries is probably higher in Salt Lake. I think they only reset once when they realized they didn't want to play anything else.
Casting spells as a hexslinger requires playing a hand of poker. It a game mechanic and a in universe explination. You charecter is playing poker with a weak devil for the power to cast.
I know a guy who played a crazy prospector with Grim Servant as well... his weapon of choice was DYNAMITE! He had a donkey loaded with the stuff... that campaign ended when he rolled a 1 and hit the donkey.
2:00 Puffin deleted the older version, both because it had no artwork, but mostly because he was newer to youtube back then an used a copyrighted song from the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Sad fact, entire complete dinosaur skeletons were reburied or destroyed with explosives, trying to deny their recovery by rivals. Then of course there's what happened with Schliemann and Troy.
Well I mean the expression of 'Soapboxing' did come from a historical tendency to stand on boxes (that were often enough, meant for soap) to stand over and clear in view of a crowd.
My dad put a world ending cultist ritual in session 2 or 3 of his Call of Cathulu game... And made us killing the cultists count for their sacrifices... Without telling us, or even giving a hint beyond describing their deaths in gorey detail. Oh, and he had a freindly NPC with a sniper rifle headshooting a cultist each round(using loaded dice for the NPC's rolls, because "he's using magic"), we were one dead cultist away from ending the world by the time we figured it out.
Actually if you read the descriptions of the gas it's a lot like what you would see during a gas attack how it moves and sits on the land I think the writers were using that as a reference and not what you're thinking
Hey Airier, just a quick historical note. The Texas Rangers were founded in 1835; in fact tomorrow (17 October 2021) is the 186th anniversary of their founding. So yes, they would a thing at this point of the alternate history.
Yeah a lot of people let me know. It's probably the only reason I finally remembered to check this out. 😅 And in all honesty, I'm glad people kept reminding me. My memory is crap otherwise.
_"Always trust in the -cain."_ And apparently in the blow-ing. In all seriousness, I'm pretty sure the town setting is apeing 'The Dark Tower' series, ... but I've not actually read it. Thanks for this reaction.
Just delaying finishing the series (before diving into more Jello Apocalypse) until after catching (finishing...) up on the new Goblin Slayer Abridged.
Also, Hazy Joke! Side note, there is a third party class in D&D 5e that uses Tarot Cards in its mechanics. Look for a book called "Touch of Class". I just really like that book, and love reccomending it to people.
If you are going to react to other puffin forest videos, then DO NOT watch his Pathfinder 2e review, his whole problem with the system was on him as a player, where he wanted to calculate on the fly every turn modifiers that only change on a level up, along other issues that I could go over if anyone is interested (the part where he said he sometimes started the session without leveling up his character in a system where every class gets at least one choice every level and makes everyone wait him finish before playing made me scream internally)
Airier: Who designs a class that is more likely to harm your friends than the enemies?
Wizards: So anyway, I cast Fireball
... [Definitely not guilty of doing this at all...]
😶
@@Airier 9 months late, but Wild Magic too.
It goes wild.

Yes. The Texas Rangers were formed in 1835 (for reference, it's towards the end of the Trail of Tears) and Deadlands takes place in the mid 1860s.

Ok, i need to know. is there any benefit to the Grim Servant, or is it just funny?
@@laumotan8862 i looked it up for you and it seems to also add a permanent +1 damage to all attacks

Churches in Eastern Kentucky are weird.
- Caaaarl, there's a dead grim servant of death in our house!
- Oh, hey, how did that get in here?
18:01 Please tell one of my DM's this. I've been trying to tell him that, but he still TPK'd us when we were just ghost hunting in the sewers.

You haven't been to Utah, but you're not missing much. Unless you like dealing with shitty drivers. Because Utah is chock full of them.
You are not alone I too have the short term memory of a goldfish

Someone better tell him about the Through The Breach rpg, which only uses playing cards.

Can ascertain that there are not random people preaching on soap boxes in salt lake.
So, this is the Weird West story of the Dutchman Mine
CARL what did you do!?😠
I feel like Puffin has played so much Call of Chtulu that the Lovecraft just bleeds into all his other games.
someone tell me what the green haze is about
Did you take a week off from Epithet Erased? Can’t wait to see you do episode 7!
