- Are you new to teaching, or about to start your first year of teaching? I have made a video all about what I wish I had known as an NQT. The video is split into resource suggestions, what to buy as a teacher and what to avoid. I then discuss apps that are useful for new teachers (NQTs) and how I use them as a teacher. I also discuss the suggestions of qualified teachers and what they wish they had known during their first year of teaching. I remember my first year of teaching so well, and I hope I have shared some helpful apps, resources and ideas that might be useful during your first term. I hope this will be helpful for those who are new to teaching - Please share with other new teachers and comment extra helpful resources or apps below. Thank you!

***What is your favourite resource as a teacher?*** Is it physical, like stationery or a planner, or is it an app? Let us know in the comments as this will help to support new teachers. Thank you for watching! ☺
Thank you! If you need a song to end your class with, you can try this one, ua-cam.com/video/SM7_690xar4/v-deo.html
Hi Katie. Useful video for all, not just NQTs. I’m very surprised by your Instagram polls! A laminator is useful occasionally but I really feel that they are overused. I would never buy my own. Granted, it might be different with younger grades and I get that they are useful for some things, but I worry that too many things are laminated just to make them pretty (not always). I think we need to consider how much a laminator will add to the learning and we also need to consider the environment. I also disagree with the book question. I get that teachers can go to libraries, borrow from colleagues, etc. But I find my books really inspiring (and someone has to buy them first before we can pass them on). One book with amazing ideas and inspiration would be a way better investment than a laminator! Also, don’t invest in online subscriptions. The free versions are good enough and, if not, the school should invest. Teachers shouldn’t be reaching into their own pockets for these things. To add to your list, I’d say invest in your own professional development (invest time more so than money). Interesting polls. Thanks for sharing!
I'm applying for jobs as an NQT this video couldn't have come at a better time, so glad I found you thank you! Xx
Thank you for the comment & support! Let me know if you have any questions in the future!
As an NQT about to start with her own class, this was a super useful video! I'm definitely New and Quietly Terrified and all the support and advice your channel gives to new and student teachers has been fantastic throughout the journey so far. Thanks for being awesome!
Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment! It makes me smile so much to read messages like this. It’s great to know the videos are having a positive impact on teachers. How are you feeling about the new class? What year group? If you have any questions at all post them here and I’ll help to answer them ☺️☺️☺️
I’m a first year music teacher teaching from a cart and I’ve been using a website called Chalk. Chalk has a planbook, an attendance section, and a grade book. It’s free and online based, and can be accessed on multiple devices. I’ve really liked it so far! The only thing it doesn’t have is seating charts, which is helpful for learning my students’ names, but I use iDoceo for that, which is another app that allows you to input grades, but it doesn’t have a lesson planner.
Thank you so much for making all these videos! I’m still in my last year of uni but I’m so excited to start teaching 😁 x
Thank you for the lovely feedback! Comments like this really make me smile. Which uni are you at? PGCE or BA Honours? I hope you are successful in your job hunt. The NQT year will be tough, but so rewarding in many ways too 😍
Hey, can you please do more PGCE related videos? I started my course this week and its already overwhelming (the amount of info coming at me) and we havent even started placements yet! 😆
No worries! I just filmed a video about evidence files. Got lots more content coming your way soon! X
For Teachers thanks so much! you guys have no idea how much I appreciate this channel ❤️
Anything else we could make to support? We have added PGCE evidence files but want to make more specific to what you need x
How did you get on? Any tips?
Do you get an allowance which you can buy school supplies with for your class? Or are they provided or do you need to use your own money.
Really found this helpful. Thank you!
No worries. Thank you for leaving positive feedback. It keeps me motivated! Have a great day!
Can tell you’re passionate about teaching. Did you get a promotion yet? Also what do you teach? I’m torn between whether I should study French or philosophy ... argh! I am passionate about both but a little bit more about teaching RE than MFL.
Update: I just figured out that you’re a maths teacher.
Thank you so much! It was so helpful, I could learn a lot from you
Thank you for your lovely comment! Have a great week x
Very useful
Very useful thank you! I couldn't imagine being without my laminator haha
I think it’s time to invest! Where did you get yours?
I got the Amazon Basics A3 one it's worked fine and has a lever to pull out the wallet if needed!
Could you do a video on how to approach homework in school?
Sure! We have some interesting opinions surrounding homework that we would like to share soon.
awesome video keep up the good work
Hi, can you share some pc application to assist your job as a teacher ?
Maybe the application for assessment your student or etc. Thanks
What do you mean by PC application please? And I am working on some assessment videos soon ☺️thank you for the ideas!
Please..please...please...get that book "30 Days Without Social Media" (by Corin Devaso) into the hands of every young person. They need a month away from the phone! Life is passing them by.
❤
We use Sparklebox.co.uk for resources at our oosc! It is totally free so definitely worth a look for new teachers, lots of banners, worksheets etc.
Thanks for sharing! I'm hoping to build a bank of resource ideas for new teachers (to be shared on here in the future.) I have used Sparklebox in the past but actually forgot about how useful it is, so thank you for the reminder :)
