    Well done Mark. This is an excellent review of the the Da Vinci Pro.
    I just got started 3d printing. Purchased a da Vinci Jr for $249 in December. It has printed great for me. Passing it onto the kids and upgrading to the Pro. I saw online today that the Pro now has the laser engraver capability for an addition $199.

    All of the features you describe are also present in the 1A model. The optical stops, the bed touching mechanism. All except the extruder motor mounted near the back. They improved version one, then the 1A and are now selling it as pro :))

    This is a nice review. Thanks for pointing out the details!
    I just finally set my pro up and printed a spool holder. One thing i did notice before printing (this may be due to wifi distance) that the wifi on the printer tended to drop after 15-20 minutes being idle and would need to be power cycled to reconnect. The spool holder came out alright (using the stock ABS that came with the printer) although there was some warpage upward from the long end of the holder. This is my first jump into 3d printing. What are the typical full range of settings you are using for ABS (speeds and what not) in the pro software for your prints?

    I would like to add that my 1.0 I had to fix the thermistor connection 3 freaking times. I had to reprogram the software to repitier and it did a lot better. I also had to use hair spray for the print bed and had to have z-axis all the way down and shielded so very little hairspray got to the x and y axis guide bars, and had to oil the guide bars with spray oil with then shielding the bed.. it was a huge pain in the butt, cause the procedure I just described I had to do every other print. Now within the last week I learned of the 3 in 1 pro and just ordered it today. you know if all I have to do is put tape down with some school glue, shit I will be freaking happy. Now with it being wireless is a added bonus for me. I can't wait til my 3 in 1 pro gets here in 3 days, I may have to call into work here on Friday because I may just be sick, I do agree with you on most everything you claimed bad on the 1.0......... Thank you for your video.

    I will be getting next week da Vinci Pro 3-in-1 Wireless 3D Printer 1.0 out of both pros that we have in au as well as da Vinci Jr. 3-in-1 Wireless 3D Printer 1.0 since my oringal 1.0 has broken down 8 months ago after 2months of use only after I bought it last year

  • @JoeBowler300

    If this printer uses open source filament why is there still a print cartridge in the back? Is this where the filament spool will go into? If so will it hold a standard size spool that comes with 1Kg of filament? The spool in their cartridges are smaller than the standard filament spools.
    I keep reading good things about metal nozzles, does XYZ have an upgrade/optional nozzle? A quick Replaceable nozzle to use different diameters would also be a nice feature! Is that possible on the pro version?

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  8 років тому

      +JoeBowler 300, you can either use XYZ filament or 3rd party filament. XYZ included a small hole at the back of the machine to run 3rd party filament through. If you do by filament from XYZ it pops right into the slot on the inside and can tell you when it is low.

    Hello good review, I do have a question.. I wonder if the new XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro has space for 2 color filler.. but i wander if only 1 can be used.. I look like XTZ preparing for a dual color in this one. What is your appearance...

    • @2robotguy

      +Tommy Jakobsen Look at the main circuit board there is a place for an additional stepper driver that is missing. I feel in the future XYZprinting will release a Da Vinci Pro 2.0

    I have yet to get a 3d printer but really want one. I'm unsure which one to get I've looked at many but still can't decide. willing to pay around $100-$900 must have good quality.

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому +1

      what are you looking to do with the parts? The highest quality part you can make would be from an SLA machine. XYZ printing Noble printer is amazing and has been ranked best by Cnet and some others.

      I wanted to make helms and swords

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому +1

      +Braxtyn Brannon , Fused deposition modeling or FDM for short is the most common 3d printer on the market. For 3d printers fdm machines have a large build area. The makerbot, Ultimaker, Da Vinci and Repraps are all forms of this technology. I have seen many swords 3d printed with FDM machines. The swords are printed in sections and fused together. Post processing will be required to smooth the surface if required. ABS is the best material to work with for solvent welding and post processing. Here is a good example of a FDM 3d printed sword www.thingiverse.com/thing:10392. I would recommend the Da vinci 1.0, Da Vinci Pro or build your own 3d printer for your price range. Don't forget you get what you pay for. Any machine assemblies under $300 is typically missing features.

    Why did your model work so much better than the one the 3D Printing Nerd got? Did you have any problems or missing parts?

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  8 років тому

      Yes, when the machine was shipped I had a couple broken parts. I contacted XYZ and they replaced them quick. I cannot tell if it happened is shipping or at the factory. Check my other videos for more details. All of my parts have been sticking well to the tape or glass bed. This machine is almost identical to the Da Vinci minus the Bowden extruder.

    I am new to 3-D printing and I am considering to buy a Da Vinci pro 3-D printer and because I didn't find this info anywhere I'm asking you. Could you tell me please, since the Da Vinci pro doesn't have sd card reader the connection between PC and printer must be established all the time during printing, or you just send the file to print via Wi-Fi to 3D printer and then you can shut down the PC ?

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      The connection only needs to be established when sending the files over to the print. The Da Vinci Pro and other XYZprinting machine all have built in SD cards and the data is transfered directly to the machine. The files came be sent via USB or Wifi. Once the file is transfered the 3d printer is a stand alone unit.

    hello mark fuller, can you suggest me, which/what of software is easy to use to design our sample in the laptop? like AutoCAD? or do you have another?

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  8 років тому

      I would suggest for solid modeling solidworks. It's a good all around software that is easy to use, with a powerful modeling engine, countless tutorials online, large user base and has all the tools to practically model anything you can dream up. I have seen some good models made in free 3D modeling software (I.e tinkercad and sketch up) but they are still lacking many features. For more animation, artistic, and organic modeling I would suggest blender. large user base, great online tutorials, and it is free.

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      +AJ Sales That is the main reason why I upgraded from the Da Vinci 1.0 to Pro. Currently XYZ has a deal right now to buy a Pro for $500 if your an existing customer. XYZ said the deal too go to mid December then go back up to $700

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      +Jason Jimos 3D scanners are not mature enough for Pro-sumers yet. The Software to really clean Scan files cost 20K plus and the scanners you need start at 10K also. This is not saying you can get some decent freeware, but it really does not have the power of the real software. I use to 3D scan part for a living and it always worried me when a customers ask, "Why don't we by a next engine and do the work our self" ( Face in hand moment)

    • @cybneo
      @cybneo 9 років тому

      I saw some people using the xbox Kinect to scan. Is that an option?

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      +AJ Alacan It really all depends on what you want to do with the data. The kinect data very noisy and it smoothed alot post process. What do you want to scan, and what do you want to do with the data?

    • @cybneo

    • @2robotguy

      It might take a couple of try to optimize the settings, but I would say it is possible. I would suggest printing objects with really fine detail on a SLA machine. For example Formlabs Form 2.

      If you have the funds go with the pro. it has all the features of the Da Vinci 1.0 and the ability in the future for you to run more exotic filaments.

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      I don't think you will need to swap the extruder out. I have ran PLA,ABS and PC in the pro already. In the software setting it has flexible, So I think it should run some sort of flexible plastic. What are you thinking to print with?

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      I don't think it would be a problem, the nozzle on the pro is 0.35mm I think. More than big enough for the embedded wood in the plastic. I would suggest to print at 0.3mm first at a slower speed.

    • @2robotguy

      Learn as much as you can from people. There is a lot to learn about print speed, infill, shells, overhangs, supports ect ect. If you dont have any local friends with machines look online for answers. A 3d printer is only as good as the user. Feel free to reach out to me if you need any help. Slow and steady wins the race

    I'm seeing right in the video warping at the front corners. Left coming in pretty severe for the size of the print. Printing on tape with a heated bed -- why? When will manufacturers go to a proper print surface -- PEI, BuildTack, plenty of options. Detail is nice, but if you can't good adhesion, all other bells and whistles -- who cares. Going to a bowden setup from a direct drive is a step backwards IMO, it will be much more difficult to print flexible filament if not impossible.

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  9 років тому

      Yes, on this print There was a slight warping on the front left corner. I think this was due to the bed not being perfectly level. Since this print I have upgraded to a glass bed and have had no issues. I do like the Bowden setup over the direct drive. Better quality and the machine prints faster

    12:34. Not a chance. Not even close. I own a 1.0a and I've seen prints from a DaVinci Pro (friend bought one even though I recommended against it) and although the Prints from the DaVinci Pro are marginally better than the 1.0a, they are absolutely NOT in the same league as an Ultimaker. I'd say the quality is more like a Taz5 or Taz6 (which I've found are very over-rated in print quality)
    XYZ has reduced the moving mass by going to a Bowden setup, but the hotend and nozzle design is still crap.
    BTW, my 1.0a has magnets on the door and the same spiral cable wrap and sheet metal edge guards that the Pro has.
    They are moving in the right direction - but still have a long way to go... And the price has almost doubled vs the 1.0. There are much better printers out there for about the same price or slightly more. For example, a Wanhao Duplicator 6 blows it out of the water.

    • @2robotguy
      @2robotguy  8 років тому

      The Ultimaker 2+ is a very dialed in machine, I was comparing the prints the the original Ultimaker. I'm going to release a video soon of parts I have recently printed on the Da Vinci Pro. Very excellent quality prints. stay tuned 😀

    Anyone got the Pro to connect to wi-fi? (Easy setup according to manual) Since day one it refuses to even with the printer 6 feet away from wireless router. Everything in the house I've done connects with no problem. Why didn't they include a network cable connector so you can configure it to the router for wi-fi setup beats me.
    As for the printing, OK its a cheap printer, but with some mods it could be an even better printer.
    The sooner someone comes up with a hack to replace the extruder for the E3d V6 kit, the better. Someone has done this with the 1.0 but not the Pro.
