American Justice needs a conviction- the system is on the line. The country is beginning to look a bit sketchy and weak. The Rule of Law must prevail.
The GOP has gone full banana republic in their shameless defense of Trump.
The legal system has been challenged many times before…Al Capone and other mafia bosses were initially tried…and acquitted due to their dirty tricks, witness intimidation, etc. It took repeated attempts to bring down the mafia, and likely same with Trump….but good prevails in the long run.
I learned long ago that the rich walk. The OJ Trial only strengthened this belief. The situation with Trump is highlighting the weakness of our jury system. The founders never dreamed of the influence of celebrity on the way it’s supposed to work so I’m preparing for a covert MAGA on the jury derailing a guilty verdict. We will survive the era of the orange menace no matter what. Regardless his days are counting down and will soon be over.

@@planedude67 Not really. The only thing cohen really does is "prove" that trump was aware of what was going on, and it wasn't just his team doing illegal things in the background while he dotters around like mr magoo writing checks for whatever people put in front of him.
I don't really think that narrative qualifies as reasonable doubt. If your goal is a mistrial, maybe, but you're not going to convince 12 jurors that he had no idea that all this was going on without a shred of evidence to support that narrative. Remember, this is a documents case. The only thing the prosecution really has to prove is that trump signed the checks, which he did, and that he reported it incorrectly, which he did. From there, the case is about intent, and cohen isn't an intent witness. That document that shows how they arrived at that 35,000 number is a killer.

If Trump is convicted, sentencing will take time, then come appeals. He will be walking free on election day in any case. Our justice system has failed us and our only hope of salvation is beating Trump in November in a landslide. After that, we need some serious judicial reform.

One of the few times Trump actually paid tax in his life was when he paid the tax for Cohen on his reimbursements.
Yeah, I want you to claim it as income for yourself, so here is extra too, to cover.the federal income tax you will owe. Trust me that this recommendation was from cohen to trump as cohen knew enough to make sure the tax liability would be covered too. That tells me that the cost really did not matter and trump must have indicated that to cohen at some point. He just wanted it hushed from the world news.

Conway makes a fair point. Most cases are not 100% open-and-shut, but 95%plus is good enough. "Beyond a REASONABLE doubt" is not the same as "beyond ALL doubt."

Have you read what the law says? "with the intent to defraud" the only evidence of such intent is cohen's word. The rest is suggestion by the prosecution as there is no direct evidence on intent by Trump.

I hope that Merchan recognizes that the sentence he delivers will be the only punishment that Trump cannot escape, for all his numerous crimes.
Leniency is appropriate for other first-time offenders - but NOT appropriate for current/former/wannabe Presidents; as chief executor of the law, they ought to be held to a higher standard of lawful behavior than the citizens they hold power over.
Merchan is a fool who lost total control of the trial and an appeal is certain!
Also Cohen got jail time for the same offense in federal court, normally Judges refer to the sentences of previous co-conspirators. I would be surprised at no jail time.

Also, I would add that it's usual for most first-time offenders to be released on bail pending any appeal BUT in this case, I trust that the Judge will invoke his discretion to withhold that privilege from Trump on the real risk of witness intimidation by Trump - and remand him to prison with immediate effect, pending his inevitable appeal....

Given the actions of the U.S. Justice System thus far, I suspect incarceration would be highly unlikely.
The New York Election Interference Case is the least troublesome, with the least amount of legal repercussions for donald Trump. It is also handily won by the prosecution with what amounts to the opposite of any mitigating factors based on the horrible behavior of donald Trump and his attorneys. We have been fed a media line that this is some sort of Hail-Mary compared to the other criminal cases, so the fact that this is a Shaquile-Oneil sized slam dunk on donald Trump really says something about the strength of the subsequent cases against him...and something about his "alleged" but otherwise super obvious guilt. We should not even be having a conversation about his candidacy.
Problem is that if Trump somehow steals a win in November, he can installt friendly judges, declare himself king / president for life and then dismiss them all.
