Dolly wrote this song, and she lived it, since there really was a bank teller who was going after Dolly's husband while she was out on tour. Needless to say, Dolly's husband stayed with her. But she is one heck of a songwriter.
She wrote this classic and I will always Love you in the same day ! She owns a theme park in her home state called Dollywood which employs hundreds. She has given over 100 million books to aid literacy in her charity.
Jolene was written about a redheaded woman who worked at their bank who flirted with her husband. It was not truly a serious flirtation but Dolly saw the potential for a song there , the Name Jolene was a little girl Dolly met on tour and she used it for the song's title Dolly married young and has been married to her husband for all these years
So grateful that Dolly’s classic is being re-discovered BUT no one is learning the true background to the song! It’s exhausting. This is what leads to Country’s stereotyped judgment. Once again...At Dolly’s bank, a teller would flirt with her husband. At a show, she met a fan named Jolene and she loved the name...with the 2, Dolly wrote this song.
Watch one where Dolly is just on her own and plays that guitar part herself. Dolly is a very decent guitar player as well as being a great lyrics and music writer.
She didn’t write it on ‘68. The incident happened in ‘68. She wrote it in ‘73, along with “I Will Always Love You”. On the very same cassette( or 8-track) that she recorded them on.
She did write it about the bank teller that showed her husband a little more attention. Dolly Never hit her. Dolly & her husband made jokes about it. Dolly is very confident & doesn't get jealous. She's an icon that is the most sweet, humble & giving! She also has a great sense of humor!! You should do 9 to 5! She wrote the song for that movie & got the beat for it by tapping her acrylic nails on the table! She also starred in the movie, which was hilarious!
An early Dolly Parton song is _"Love is Like a Butterfly"_ DOLLY HAS ABOUT 3-4 DIFFERENT PERIODS IN HER MUSIC: 1)Part of Porter Waggoner's rise and his tv show; 2) post-Porter Waggoner when she did a lot of song writing and Nashville appearances, touring... 3)Hollywood FAME with several movies, movie themes, and BIG, BIG STARDOM.

Awesome song, grew up with my parents listening to it. I will add that Miley Cyrus does an amazing cover. I'm not usually a fan of hers but I will say she hit it out of the park.
Dolly's husband didnt cheat on her. Bank teller was flirting with him. Jolene was a pretty little girl getting an autograph. Dolly couldnt get the name out of her head. She kept singing jolene while she was cooking. Dolly did what she does best, combinethe 2 events & wrote this song. She has written well over 3,000 songs. She has many heart felt songs. Try "Bargain Store, Seeker, Apple Jack, Love Is Like a Butterfly, Light of a Clear Blue Morning." Many duets with Porter Wagner. Loretta Lynn is great also. Love Lynn singing duets with Conway Twitty. Classic Country is real Country Music. Not the junk they make today.
In 1990, the high school dropout rate for Dolly Parton's hometown of Sevierville Tennessee was at 34% (Research shows that most kids make up their minds in fifth/sixth grade not to graduate). That year, all fifth and sixth graders from Sevierville were invited by Parton to attend an assembly at Dollywood. They were asked to pick a buddy, and if both students completed high school, Dolly Parton would personally hand them each a $500 check on their graduation day. As a result, the dropout rate for those classes fell to 6%, and has generally retained that average to this day. Shortly after the success of The Buddy Program, Parton learned in dealing with teachers from the school district that problems in education often begin during first grade when kids are at different developmental levels. That year The Dollywood Foundation paid the salaries for additional teachers assistants in every first grade class for the next 2 years, under the agreement that if the program worked, the school system would effectively adopt and fund the program after the trial period. During the same period, Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995: The idea being that children from her rural hometown and low-income families often start school at a disadvantage and as a result, will be unfairly compared to their peers for the rest of their lives, effectively encouraging them not to pursue higher education. The objective of the Imagination library was that every child in Sevier County would receive one book, every month, mailed and addressed to the child, from the day they were born until the day they started kindergarten, 100% free of charge. What began as a hometown initiative now serves children in all 50 states, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, mailing thousands of free books to children around the world monthly. On March 1, 2018 Parton donated her 100 millionth book at the Library of Congress: a copy of "Coat of Many Colors" dedicated to her father, who never learned to read or write. Happy 74th Birthday Dolly Parton!
She wrote this song because a lady on the bank was trying to take her man, so she gave her a little smack and I then gave her hubby a little smack as well😉😉😊😊
Now you HAVE to react to Chapel Hill’s “You Can Have Him, Jolene” audition on AGT. Chapel Hill is a trio of singing songwriters who happen to be Black Ladies who have EXPLODED onto the Country scene! They are fantastic!
Dolly wrote this song on the same day she wrote "I will always love you," which Whitney Houston made famous. Dolly made over $10 million in royalties from Houston's version. Dolly gave it ALL to the African American community in her home town in Tennessee. Yes. You are right. Dolly IS such a likeable human being.
I could make a list of Dolly songs I think you would love. Hell, I would watch you react to hearing some of her bio, she is such a class act. I consider her a godmother. You are so right about what you said: there are stars, there are legends, and there are icons. Dolly has achieved living godhood. I know you would be a Dolly stan once you get into her artist profile, hear more of her classics
Dolly said this was a true story and the woman was a bank teller. Check out her song Coat of Many Colors” She grew up very humble and below poverty level
Great reaction to this song and a very good understanding of the lyrics. I think you said 'somebody must of killed your self esteem to think like that'. Exactly right!
Binging your channel now that I happily found it. Love your takes. It's nice to hear a grown ass man with some life experience react. And this was a true story. Jolene was a real woman her hubs flirted with when then would go to the bank. Dolly is so great as an artist and human.

Ladies, If "your" man can be taken, he was never yours to begin with. Great vocal performance as always from Dolly, but never, ever beg another woman not to take your man or fight her for him. The MAN is the one that made a commitment, not the woman.
The songs I've seen you do are right on my front porch bro, killin' it! This song always gets me. So much of it is because of who's singing it. Dolly in the day, such a fox, so vulnerable. It hurts man. That she's the one begging and pleading? Heartbreaking. So unreal. Jack White does a live version of it, doesn't charge a lyric. Savage. Great song though. One of a kind. Thanks!!
Loretta Lynn is another queen of county , you should check out her autobiographical song “Coal Miners Daughter”.... it’s very similar to how my grandmother grew up in rural Kentucky in the depression
Story behind this Jolene was a woman that worked at the bank where Dolly banked. Side story Dolly once said in reference to her breast, no one ever said she had great legs.. She loves to tell those almost naughty jokes in good fun. She also is a great humanitarian with her reading club for children and how she helped her hometown rebuild after a catastrophic storm devastated it...
Dolly Parton is a national treasure the amount of songs that she’s written is astounding and she’s also a smart lady she kept the rights to all her songs so Whitney Houston‘s big hit I will always love you Dolly raked in the cash on that one because she wrote it and sang it years before
hey man enjoy your ride into the unknown. Dolly is an OG baby. Woman is sweet and the voice of an angel. No fiction in that story its real. Bank teller who kept flirting with her real life hubby. Dolly is the best man. Peace and love from Canada
If I remember correctly, Jolene was a woman who tried to get Dolly's husband. She and Dolly got into a fight and Jolene almost ripped her wig off. The physical aspects she described were from another woman she saw who was just so pretty Dolly loved the way she looked. So, she merged the two women together in the song.
I hear what you're saying about the story, but even if your self esteem is really high, some men are so blind! I've learned that if they take too long to 'see' your worth, move on.. They may catch up, they might not, but it's not healthy to remain. That's when the self esteem starts to erode.

I don’t know if Dolly ever confronted this woman, but it was a true story, from what I understand. I was very little when this song come out, but thanks to the advent of UA-cam and the Internet I’ve researched it and it really happened.
New sub and loving the reacts. Two country suggestions if you haven't done them. Loretta Lynn "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man" which is the antithesis to this song that I think a "HipHop Head" would appreciate similar to the Miranda song you did. 2nd Dolly Parton "Coat Of Many Colors". You got a crazy logo with the Davidic Star and the Mason Eye and all that and I'm not gonna go down the rabbit hole or anything but I'm sure you are aware of the Coat Of Many Colors story and will appreciate how that one translates into a modern message. I definitely think you would enjoy both of those continuing on this country journey you started.

I've loved this song since I was a small child - Mum said I would make her play it on repeat! Dolly has it all - lyrical genius, gorgeous pure voice, a great sense of humour, beauty and brains, yet despite 50+yrs of fame, she has remained humble and incredibly kind 💖 She stayed true to her roots - grew up dirt poor in a shack in Tennessee - check out her song 'Coat Of Many Colours' to appreciate the poverty of her childhood ua-cam.com/video/c1zJzr-kWsI/v-deo.html She's an astute businesswoman but has always used her fame to help others - check out her charity 'Imagination Library' - she gives 100'000's of books per month to disadvantaged kids worldwide. 💕 She wrote ‘Jolene’ & 'I Will Always Love You' on the same day(!), in the 70's and it was covered by Whitney Houston in the 90's. Here's a link to Dolly's version: ua-cam.com/video/aDqqm_gTPjc/v-deo.html React to '9 to 5' (theme tune of one of the movies she starred in): ua-cam.com/video/UbxUSsFXYo4/v-deo.html - it's a huge upbeat hit!
4:28 I dont know if anybody has mentioned it yet, but the story the song tells is true. "Jolene" was a bank teller who constantly flirted with Loetta Lynn's husband, even though she knew he was married. Some small details may have been embellished but for about 96-ish% of the song she is being factual.
She's so bare.....it was based on truth when a bank teller kept flirting with her husband. Now I've been married 34 years and trust me...just because one is committed....we ain't blind! These days...everyone's like, screw it! But Dolly always bares herself in her music. Whitney Houston covered her song..I Will Always Love You. But my favorite is her Coat Of Many Colors. My Momma grew up poor and it touched her so deeply so of course it touches me too. Check it out if you want to!😽
FYI they been married for decades so obviously Joline didn't last! But Dolly writes bare man....she was young and wrote what she felt even it was not applicable in a short period of time. The times too were stand by your man and all that s. But I hear you! Personally I always point out beautiful women to my husband! I have 3 older sisters and always loved admiring. Married but not blind....check this one out honey!😹
I dig Dolly's approach. Would it be mine? No. But she came to talk to her directly, no fight, just real talk. He's a game to you, but he's the love of my life. Stop playing games with people and think about what youre doing. The studio version of this song is better imo. Her backup singers lend a beautiful harmony, the strings are more clear
Dolly wrote this song, and she lived it, since there really was a bank teller who was going after Dolly's husband while she was out on tour. Needless to say, Dolly's husband stayed with her. But she is one heck of a songwriter.

@@abracadabra3033 that would be a nice follow up to this song from another country music icon that also came from nothing.
@@loumorrow0903 it definitely sound like a song i would enjoy based on the title , so i for sure will , thank you
You should hear Mountain Angel by Dolly. Jolene makes you made, Mountain Angel will make you cry
Ayy but for real, check out Dolly Parton's song "Coat of Many Colors". Sad but beautiful.
Man dude you got a lot of good stuff on hear, going to take awhile to catch up. Great reaction my friend.
I think I'm gonna go knock down some pins- bowling, bowling, bowling, BOWLING !
Try the cover of this song by ‘The White Stripes’. It’s my favorite cover ever.
I've loved this song since I was a small child - Mum said I would make her play it on repeat! Dolly has it all - lyrical genius, gorgeous pure voice, a great sense of humour, beauty and brains, yet despite 50+yrs of fame, she has remained humble and incredibly kind 💖 She stayed true to her roots - grew up dirt poor in a shack in Tennessee - check out her song 'Coat Of Many Colours' to appreciate the poverty of her childhood ua-cam.com/video/c1zJzr-kWsI/v-deo.html
She's an astute businesswoman but has always used her fame to help others - check out her charity 'Imagination Library' - she gives 100'000's of books per month to disadvantaged kids worldwide. 💕 She wrote ‘Jolene’ & 'I Will Always Love You' on the same day(!), in the 70's and it was covered by Whitney Houston in the 90's. Here's a link to Dolly's version: ua-cam.com/video/aDqqm_gTPjc/v-deo.html
React to '9 to 5' (theme tune of one of the movies she starred in): ua-cam.com/video/UbxUSsFXYo4/v-deo.html - it's a huge upbeat hit!
🤣🤣🤣 "FUCK Jolene!!!" Damn that was funny as hell!
Dolly was a smoke bomb & her personality even sweeter. If her man wants Jolene, bye! 👋 Also, Jolene gonna lose him how she got him anyway.
4:28 I dont know if anybody has mentioned it yet, but the story the song tells is true. "Jolene" was a bank teller who constantly flirted with Loetta Lynn's husband, even though she knew he was married. Some small details may have been embellished but for about 96-ish% of the song she is being factual.
the Quiver in her voice always got me...
It’s unique
She's so bare.....it was based on truth when a bank teller kept flirting with her husband. Now I've been married 34 years and trust me...just because one is committed....we ain't blind! These days...everyone's like, screw it! But Dolly always bares herself in her music. Whitney Houston covered her song..I Will Always Love You. But my favorite is her Coat Of Many Colors. My Momma grew up poor and it touched her so deeply so of course it touches me too. Check it out if you want to!😽
Love your reviews.
✌🏾
FYI they been married for decades so obviously Joline didn't last! But Dolly writes bare man....she was young and wrote what she felt even it was not applicable in a short period of time. The times too were stand by your man and all that s. But I hear you! Personally I always point out beautiful women to my husband! I have 3 older sisters and always loved admiring. Married but not blind....check this one out honey!😹
Ahahaa ...
#FuckJolene
Ahahaa, you had me rolling!🤣🤣💥💣
😀
you gotta watch Dolly at the CMA's doing He's Alive (I'm not even a Christian and I Love that song)
You need to check out Telling Me Lies by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmy Lou Harris. It is fire! 🔥🔥🔥
Got it
She pulls it off on account no one could actually take any man from her hah!
Jeannie C Riley "Harper Valley PTA" you need to react, I think you'll like it.
Got it , thank you
That's Jeannie C Riley (might have misspelled her name. )
Please do Linda Ronstadt's Blue Bayou ....
Definitely will
I dig Dolly's approach. Would it be mine? No. But she came to talk to her directly, no fight, just real talk. He's a game to you, but he's the love of my life. Stop playing games with people and think about what youre doing.
The studio version of this song is better imo. Her backup singers lend a beautiful harmony, the strings are more clear
