For a first time pysanky writer I think you have done amazing! Each year we (my siblings and cousins, along with our Moms) would spend a day and my Baba’s (Grandmother) writing eggs. There was always at least one or two oopsy drops! lol. My Baba was very accomplished and I love making pysanky. Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️
I have my husband's, Granny's kistka and lump of wax. I've been meaning to teach myself but after watching this video I decided to dive in. I've started the wax lines on some eggs tonight and ordered the dye to be here by Sunday. Granny is 88 and still has ones from her childhood. I'm hoping to present her with at least one this Easter. Hubby's family is Ukrainian and I know she really wants her traditions to be passed down. Thank you so much for these videos!
When I used to do pysanky(I’m not steady enough anymore), I would use 1/8” drafting tape to start off my design. It’s plastic skinny tape that can be lifted an repositioned if need be. If you write on one side of the tape all the way around, it all comes out even. I have dozens of eggs some of which belonged to my grandma. I’m 71 now so those eggs are older than me. Mine aren’t blown. Eventually they dry out and you can feel the yolk rattling on the inside.
You are a gifted teacher, that is for certain! I’ve always been intrigued by these beautiful eggs, but never tried it. My church is having a little class after service tomorrow. I went to UA-cam and thought I would watch a few so I could understand the basic process. I’ve watched several tutorials and by far yours is the best, because you explained everything so well! Thanks, Sandy!
Wow! What a lesson in a beautiful and special cultural practice. I loved the white etched ones. But your colourful basket together is stunning. The 3D aspect of pattern creation is marvelous. Thank you!
Oh SANDY! They are wonderful! When Ali think of the hours and patience (and mourning when one is lost) you put into these! This is a wonderful video. Your instructions are so clear so well done, and I particularly appreciate the variety of designs that you showcase. Great work and I am glad you had fun. You continue to inspire me, art-wise, but more importantly, human-wise. Thank you.
I would love to be able to try this!! My fine motor control is meh due to MS so I can’t. What I can do is enjoy yours, and now that I know this is a thing, enjoy other’s too!!!!! I think you did a fabulous job!!!!!!!!!❤ On a different level, thank you for 1) honoring the Ukrainian people and their beautiful tradition, and 2) showing us how to join in with them! Thank you Sandy. God bless.
Sandy you are so steady; that is a plus. I think you did very well. For the wax, I use thin sheets of bees wax (used for rolled candles), and simply pull off small pieces to put into the kistka hole. I hope you do pysanky again. They were beautiful.
I always learn something new from watching your videos. The pysanky eggs have always intrigued me. Now I can appreciate the time that goes into their design. I have several hand-painted eggs that were a gift from my Czech and Slovak cousins that actually survived the flight home 24 years ago. I still haven’t given my grown sons theirs!😂
The detailed steps in part one was incredibly fascinating. I had never heard of Pysanky eggs and was sold on the etched version you made. And I loved this group of eggs as well. I'm a bit nervous (me and "fragile" don't work well together) but I think I will try it. Thanks so much for posting this series. It was very informative!
That was amazing! Never mind the oopsies… it just shows it’s handmade and unique. They are gorgeous. I really admire your patience… but the end results are so worth it. Thank you for the video.
Beautiful designs, Sandy. I really appreciate being able to watch your creative journey into the art of Ukranian Pysanky. Hopefully these amazing national treasures are being smuggled out of the country and preserved so that future generations can witness the amazing heart of Ukraine. Thank you for making your art so timely.
Beautiful job. They all look amazing. Eggs are the thing. I bought wooden ones and painting turquoise with white lined designs for my grand niece to find. So much fun
Instead of dipping the kistka into the wax, I hold the wax in one hand and "scoop" from a bottom corner of the wax with the edge of the top of the kistka. Like scooping ice cream upside-down.
I think you did a great job! Years ago I had a Polish neighbor who taught me to do this. I still have those eggs! Also if you can get duck or goose eggs those are larger and fun to do
A steady hand is a definite requirement! These are just stunning! They remind me somewhat of Kugeln ornaments, which are German and feature lines and brushstrokes in various combinations I think I'd do better with a brush and paint instead of wax! TFS
Sandy, these are beautiful! I doubt any of your friends will even notice any bloopers. You have such a steady hand. I would love to try this, but I’m too shaky!
Each one is so pretty, but all together in the basket they are spectacular! I am taking a moment to mourn the loss of the one egg. I am having the classic approach-avoidance reaction. Wow- I want to do that! No, I can’t make it through all of the steps! But, they are so pretty. But, no, too many steps! And that reverse masking….oy!

Beautiful job. They all look amazing. Eggs are the thing. I bought wooden ones and painting turquoise with white lined designs for my grand niece to find. So much fun
I'll never do this but totally enjoyed learning the process to create.
I think they are simply beautiful...I especially like the details that you call 'bloopers'. They add a special touch that I think is perfect! TFS!
That video was so fun to watch. The eggs are all so beautiful, Happy Easter Sandy. Thank you

@@SandyAllnock1 geese will be starting to make eggs right about now, geese have a season but ducks don't.
@@Monica_bondevik good to know! I’ll keep checking the market. 👍🏻

I have never seen anything like this, it's COOL! Plus when they are all together they are BEAUTIFUL!!
They turned out great and it is the perfect canvas for a doodler!
Beautiful! You are so encouraging! I’m going to get my equipment set up to draw pysanky!
A steady hand is a definite requirement! These are just stunning! They remind me somewhat of Kugeln ornaments, which are German and feature lines and brushstrokes in various combinations I think I'd do better with a brush and paint instead of wax! TFS

Very time-consuming, but absolutely GORGEOUS‼️ 😍♥️

You can also use a oven set to 225• and the wax melts really nicely
They are all beautiful. ❤️

Try heating the kitska only on the bottom of the flame if you heat it the top the soot from the candle can clog your kitska
Thanks!
How fun!
Incredible!
Great!
Gorgeous! ❤
Inspirational!!
They are beautiful!z
I’m wondering if the pencil lines show since you are going over the white and the white is where you drew.
Your eggs are brand I’m inspired!
No the pencil disappeared 😍
how did you make the brown? the pink and red looks good , by the way...
like it!
This is exactly the Indian Batik technique.
hi sandy, i love this, thank you :) what kind of pencil is that you use here? It looks really good but i haven't seen one like that before
It’s called a “lead holder”-used in graphic design which was once my profession.
@@SandyAllnock1 ah brilliant, thank you :)
Yes p,ease make video on design portion
Your pronunciation is a little off but you don’t have a Polish tongue. I made these with my mother. I haven’t done them in years. It took me back.
