I built several of these and had no luck in getting them to work till I put the wire 1 inch from the back of the can. I made the wire 1 1/4 inches in length at 1 inch from the back and I used a chunky soup can. Works great pointed at a dish network dish as a reflector. Good luck building these.
Your drawing does not indicate which is the bottom of the can. You stipulated a specific can size but would a larger can offer a higher gain? Since you mentioned that it is directional did you not consider showing this on your PC by moving it around so we can see from your screen just how effective this is. Do you have any idea how distant some of the signals are from your location.. All relevant questions! Does holding the can earth the signal and how did you support it during use?
not sure what its called, I took a stack of neo magnets and wrapped copper wire around them. My guess is the magnets super amplify the signal passing through the coil. Its actually vertical instead of horizontal
it's "shielding" not "shield conductor". Just FYI. Shield and Conductor are both different things. That would make the shield an oxy-moron if it was a conductor. Certified telecommunications tech. Not sure how I got on this video but ended up stumbling upon it.
I figured it out, my coil Induces current so signal moves through the coil super fast from inductance. That would be gain, introducing more power in any way to a signal. yeah As long as we use less than 4 watt's we're good, I should find a way to read the strenght in watts from my coil
The challenge I have to overcome is brownouts. I have Iphone 4S using as in internet tether to a PC and one to a Mac. The mac connects better but does not always work better. I have a mobile business moving every few weeks. It is quite common for the iphone to show 4 or 5 bars, the computor to show 3 to 5 bars but the internet is not operating - things won't download and email won't send or download for a period of time. This happens often. I have tried three commercial aerials that have made little difference. Do you expect this will help the situation?
what if you got about 1000 ft of antenna wire and hooked it to the main antenna and flushed the other end down the toilet so it runs through the underground maze of pipes im pretty sure that would boost signal alot or if you connected the cable wire thats running outside along all the poles and under ground for a really long extension.
I gave a test run building a horizontal copper coil. the connection speed dropped, but it appears to be pulling in data super fast, so I'm thinking the way I made the coil, signal coming in is super amplified. Its much faster, but I don't understand why the connection speed dropped
what do you mean by get a wireless access point if you want to put it far from your pc i don’t understand will it pick up signals from the antenna then send them to your pc with a ether net cable ?? so you can have the antenna more than 3 feet from your pc pleas reply i am very interested
When mentioning "soldering" people may be put off, if for no other reason than soldering is soo irritating and goofy the way it tends to miss and melt away too much and then adhere to anything except the place where you are trying to apply it (even when you use resin or rosin or whatever they call it). Popular Science has some conductive glue advertised in the small ads in the back pages, not sure if it is possible to make your own conductive glue, but it sure would be easier than "soldering" which is an aggravating little DIY task that makes people like myself cuss, upsetting folks in the room. Anyway mention "no lead" solder (in other words, solder without the metal chemical element "Lead" Pb in it) and good ventilation as well due to soldering fumes. Thank you, i like your design and overall simplicity and avoidance of manufactured parts, use of USAmerica's biggest product --"garbage" --etc. (My can comes from the steel cans in my recycling). Not sure I have exactly that type of cable-- so, precise specs on cable type used, for folks who don't have or don't want to dismantle an existing cable without knowing they have the right specs, would be most helpful. In your description. Also I like your careful explanation of details, tho the video was fuzzy on the drawing on paper, is that 2 1/2 (two and one half) inches from back of the can? Have you tried various distances from the back of the can to make sure that's the best location? Perhaps a sliding bracket mount for testing?
don't make him feel bad about himself I had a dream once believe it or not i had a dream about making a tv receiver too. i invented the paper clip antenna
Being cheap is one thing but sometimes it cost more in the long run. All that BS your going through, damn. I made my own. I got some old fence tubing and put it together for a pole. Then spent $25 on wire nut bolts ect. and made a antenna. I get some 30 channels. And it's done and I do not have to screw with it. There's lot's of antenna designs here on youtube.
+William Wynn William, I read a comment you made 2 years ago online. The challenge I have to overcome is brownouts. I have Iphone 4S using as in internet tether to a PC and one to a Mac. Have you a better easy to make idea?

Why isn't this video more popular? I know so many people who could learn from this!
We have TV channels now, up here in Graham Holler. I get all the major networks, PBS, CW, & ICON as well.........thanks Mr. TV!
This is a Wi-Fi Antenna !@#$%^&*???
NO you dont
"decide on a good day to have a nice big bowl o' soup..."
I just spent $20 on amazon and got a great antenna and the best part is no assembly required ;)
Best form of recycling. I like DIY because is little anarchistic ;)
Now this really intriges me!
📻🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
hey thats a neat Idea how many feet can this signal reach thanks for posting
Sounds like someone cut a fart at 1:55 - too funny!
it works I get at least 34 channels thx man
@
Norberto Moreno - How is that possible? This is for WIFI and NOT for TV, LMFAO !!! 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Now a day, I use the box to convert my router out door with POE as well
This video looks and sounds like it was done in the 80’s
good work
@Jason Sweet thats interesting..if u get a chance to take a pic i would def like to see the setup.

lol im cheap" oh bro.. me too... welcome to the club-
works perfect
I placed some Neo mags in the coil and got my strength all the way back to 54 and can see about 30 networks in range

are you sure you dont keep the soup n there?
Pretty cool
thanks! working
I need an athlete to run around my room with Cantena because the wifi signal in my room is very unstable.
good man .... i like cheap things too....
I made desame but did not work,,,,
Show us the result of your invented antenna? Thanknyou
I spill my chunky soup on my lap

Can This be done with a wireless usb adapter inside the can?

what is the shield on the side of the hole he's takling about?
Cool did u know u can make one with tin foil and a wire to hook in to ur tv

That isn't what I meant.
There is no reason for people to use expensive gold instead of copper.
There are all kinds of non-powered antennas marketed as "high gain". Is the term only correct for an amplified antenna?
ROLF! Eat The Soup Clean up the can :P nice vid.. it realy works!!
Oh are you talking about a helical antenna?
[Sod-er] is the correct pronunciation in the US. The L is silent.
how do you put it in the highest part of your house like the attic with a 3ft cabal
no. this is for local wifi signal only
hee hee hee, ..."buy a can, eat the soup..."
I just pretended that it's Sheldon :D

i invented the paper clip antenna
This is a Wi-Fi Antenna !@#$%^&*???
esto puede provocar una bomba nuclear, cuidado chavos, equis de (xd)
At what distance can I expect to receive a signal?
Can you use that antenna to "beam" signal to another antenna?
I actually beam at the nearest star and got a wow signal reply from them.
victortancheongwee HHAHAHA!!!
Refer to my original comment's third sentence.
1.2 inches hmm i think its better explained 3 eighths of 10cm or two thirds of 100 mm
Good
nice
lol for real? What coil are you talking about?
can you drop free internet antenna tutorial
Does it really work ?
Can anyone tell me how to get an antenna wire, without ripping it off my motherboard? And where can i get Copper?
What is the max. range for the "cantenna" ?
maybe 0.5 mile?
Can it work properly though
where do you put the other end at, plug to what?
Great. Now look up how to make a gadget that enhances video quality
you can just put a paperclip in the tv aswell
This is a Wi-Fi Antenna !@#$%^&*???
@xbarryx08 When i read this i bursted soda all over my screen lol Rofl!
does this work for usb broadbands??
cites from Wikipedia....LOL....just who is this Wikipedia person and how do we get to meet him or her
How much gain do you get?
where's the gain? you're not amplifying the signal to induce amplification.
or even on signal reception.
Agreed
you can do this for a tv with an old cable wire and a coke can
This is a Wi-Fi Antenna !@#$%^&*???
what do i need to do now?
maybe it will work. just try it!
how much dBi are we talking here?

Tooo much talking dude.....just straight to the point.
Where do you plus this contraption in at?
I missed the part about eating the soup first. It's doesn't work so well with a full can of soup.
uncle i don't believe you .
if you had a bit more patience and built one yourself you would still have the $20. you may need the money someday.
it s how ?
I never realised, until now, that it was possible to record youtube audio on a shellac 78rpm record.
i connected a Coke can to my TV... all i get are Coke commercials :(
i just want to see the result..before and after..wasted my bandwitch watch this..damn..
Oh....
And then WHAT...?
YO!!!
mit dosenantennen kenne ich mich wenig aus????????
The "L" is silent in the electronic school I attended.
This, from a dictionary: "sol·der [sod-er] "
In brackets is how it is pronounced.
You really think people would get gold and use it on wiring?
tests? proof?
gold beats it on electricity not to pop you copper bubble
"cantenna" :D
Wow cool any kind off can can work
unscrew it, maybe?
you should more voice language provied like hindi
Ahahahahaha..Very fUNNY :)
Make it HD quality for God sake! :)
For the love of God get on with it. I can't do this anymore. I want to know how to connect to the computer but he will no get to the point.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. its an alien!!!!!! he has a motherboard. awesome! but cool.
why do you sound like the guy that builds amps veg something
