This channel rocks because he shows a ton of footage of the animals while he's talking. I hate it when people just talk about the animals and barely show them. Adam knows what viewers want.

I had a Florida kingsnake for 13 years, also my first snake. I was told they can be bitey, not easy to handle, not advisable for a first snake. He was so friendly, never bit, loved being handled so I suppose it depends on the snake itself. RIP Soloman.

Garter snakes themselves fit the “something for most people”. They come in so many colors, so many patterns, so many sizes, and so many varieties of behaviors. They have rad morphs and localities. Finally, they are diurnal and inquisitive. Mine follow me around and love to watch me work in the reptile room. They are just so much fun to engage with.
I love garters if that wasn’t apparent. My absolute favorite snakes.

    @malusignatius 10 місяців тому +5

    Re. Carpet Pythons:
It's worth noting that they have a reputation of being a bit bitey, but what it really comes down to is that Carpets have a very strong feeding response. So it might be worth making sure you only feed with tongs or try spot-training with them.
Also, apart from the ethical issues, it's worth noting that feeding a captive snake live food is best avoided as it can cause harm to the snake due to parasites and in the case of rodents, the 'food' fighting back.

I have 4 carpets, I got my first on in 2016 she’s now 13 years old and has only bit me once. My zebra is a 2021 baby but hasn’t been handled much so she’s a bit psychotic. My Jaguar is also a 2021 baby and I’ve had her for three years has only bitten me once but she has a very strong feeding response and will occasionally strike at the enclosure when she wants a rat even tho she just had one a few days prior.

If you love yellow snakes and carpet pythons you should consider getting an albino Darwin carpet python! (Morelia Spilota Variegata) they're beautiful. They're in the 5-7 foot range on average, but some large females can reach 8 feet. You could probably house an average sized one in like a 6x3x3! Nick Mutton from Inland Reptile seems to produce a lot of amazing darwin carpets. I don't have one myself because they can be a bit too large for me, but I think you would love one, Adam! :)

Also speaking of uncommon rat snakes, trans-Pecos rat snakes are DELIGHTFUL and more people should know about them. Super handleable and mellow, similar temperament to corns but move at half the speed, BEAUTIFUL pattern, cool morphs, smaller than corn snakes. The only trick to them is that you need to feed them a feeder size smaller than you’d feed any other snake their size. Mine is 4 and refuses to eat anything bigger than a hopper

Dumeril's boas are awesome! They would be my first pick for people wanting a snake, and I have recommended them many times over ball pythons and the like. I need one in my collection again.. miss them dearly.
That goes for really any of the Madagascar snake species, they seem to all be calm, handleable, and easy to take care of. If I can ever find a Madagascar Ground Boa, I am for sure jumping on it! I should have over 10 years ago when I had the chance, but missed out on it... Once the Madagascar Tree boa prices calm down a bit, maybe one of them? Just great snakes all around imo.

Glad you mentioned carpets. I live alone but wanted a larger snake than my bps . After research I decided on a carpet even though they had a reputation for being grumpy. I now have three, a coastal, a jungle and an Irian Jaya. Absolutely wonderful animals! I even trimmed shrubs in my back yard so they can climb safely. My jungle does have wobble maybe caused by dad being jag. Something they forgot to tell me and I didn’t think to ask. I vote carpets for the win!🐍

Awesome vid!!! Hey here’s an idea for a new vid. So my IJ carpet went off rats one day this past year l. She was well established and eating fuzzy rats. she’s about a year old now and won’t eat rats anymore just went off them one day. She get excited when I open the cage and attempt to feed her one and will smell them but will only strike constrict and eat mice . So she’s on large adult mice probably about the time to move to jumbos . Can’t get her back to rats so Maybe do a vid about how to get a snake back on a particular food item or if like a ball python who goes off food how to get them back on food entirely. Anywho great vids can’t wait for the next one.

I adore my Woma python. His name is Nobert and he is the most inquisitive snake I've ever owned. He loves to explore and check out what I'm doing. My only caution to people about them is they have killer appetites and sometimes decide "yep, this is food". Hence why I've had to pry Norbert's jaw off my earlobe once when he was chilling on my shoulder as a baby.

The food drive on womas is no joke. The other issue with them is they’re kind of doofuses with bad aim. Mine hit my hand HARD the other day even though the mouse was a foot away from it in tongs. They’re small enough it’s not a big deal though lol

I agree with #1! It's one on my wishlist but not easy to find sadly! 😕 So probably costs an arm and a leg here!

Wanna hear a secret? Bearded dragons are "technically" venomous as well.
Womas for the win! They're high up on my wish list to work with.
And yes, Antaresia are pretty cool. We have Stimpsons and anthills. Honestly im really loving the anthills, and hoping to breed them in the future.
Honorable mention as well, African House Snakes. Pretty sure they're going to be a big "great for everyone" snake blowing up the hobby in the next year or 2.

For a North American native species, what about rosy/rubber boas instead of garter snakes?

Biased for sure, but you can't go wrong with a bullsnake, especially if you are looking for something you will see outside a burrow or hide. Decent, to impressively sized for a non-boid, and with a temperament that is miles from boring. As a certain bearded professor would say, "they eat like boas."

When keeping ball pythons how do you keep the humidity at a good spot? Should i be misting the enclosure like i do with my crested geckos? I keep seeing mixed things about this and want to make sure im doing it the right way.. Thanks in advance❤️

Black milk snakes are awesome colors change into adulthood they have a really beautiful iridescence. Never bite, or musk, they get a decent size and everyone doesn’t have one. Wicked cool snakes.

Hello. I have a request. Could you do a video on how to set up a Blue tongue skink enclosure?
I would like to hear you recommendations on how you set them up. Because I’m planning on buying one soon and I want to make sure I’m doing everything correctly.
Edit: the diamond python is one of the coolest looking snakes I’ve ever seen. Didn’t know they were even a thing

Mandarin snakes are a great success story. Originally with extremely low survival rates due to poor import conditions, nowadays easy to take care of. The size, however, is highly population specific. Those from Sechuan can grow up to >200cm/>500g. And depending on location temperature adjustments must happen. Japanese forest snakes are interesting too.
