There’s a documentary out there made solely of footage from passengers and the audio and video recordings from the coastguard and I highly recommend it - theres the entire conversation between Schettino and the coastguard controller and its brilliant. As a crew member on a cruise ship, it’s terrible that any of our captains would act this way and be reacting to anything like this the way he did, but the conversation is fantastic to listen to just with how together the controller had it and how he tried every trick in the book to get Schettino back on board to co-ordinate evacuation.
“Le faccio passare l’anima dei guai” doesn’t really translate to I will really hurt you, it’s more a menace regarding the consequences of his actions, the literal translation would be “I’ll make you go through the very soul of troubles”
*Just remember that the true victim of this tragedy was actually Domnica Cemortan who died twice. Once on the witness stand and then a second death afterwards with the crush on her psychological brain*
I've listened to this video a dozen times just for the sake of his voice and the way it's all presented. Good way to kill time at work when I'm just plugging away at the books. Set some Internet Historian and watch the hours fly by :)
As cowardly as it was for Martin the Magician to just immediately run away, it's good that (even while presumably panicking and out of his mind with fear) he remembered to unlatch the box so that the woman inside wouldn't be trapped.
@@user1029xspl8dy True, but if I was in his situation, I cannot 100% guarantee I'd have the presence of mind to remember to open the box. I just appreciate he knows his priorities even under duress, that's all.
The more I learn about de Falco, the more I'd vote for the guy. Between "Get the fuck back on board" and being willing to go against the organization he worked for when they were wrong in that fire, the dude seems like his whole focus is on the people of Italy. Good dude.
I can relate a lot to his type of personality. The big problem when somebody’s character cares more about doing what they know in their heart is the right thing to do, knowing that there can very well be either minor or major personal consequences from following through and not playing politics, the thing that happens routinely is people that you thought had your back (and you KNOW they feel the exact same way about the matter) are actually cowards - they’ll hang you out to dry in order to save their own skin the moment they get the tiniest bit nervous (and the irony is that if there is a group standing up for something, unjust punishment is likely to not happen at all). Hell, I’ve even had a couple of people recruit me to help them carry out something (it wasn’t my idea at all to start the project), but then they got nervous about what potential consequences could come from it, so they had me do _ALL_ of the work (whilst being as shady as possible about it all, because they didn’t want to admit they bowed out for the longest time) and wiped their hands clean of it lmfao. I had known them for many years at that point, so what you find in situations like this are people’s true colors.
Isn’t it sad that there’s no hope and no place for an altruistic personality in modern politics? They get demolished by the unhinged dirty politicians who want to take them down. There’s no hope for ever un-breaking that situation. 😔
@Charlie That's not what he actually said there, he said "Le faccio passare l'anima dei guai", which is very hard to translate accurately. If I had to try, it would probably go something like "I'll have you go through the soul of (all) troubles". In other words, De Falco wasn't throwing around puns.
NordVPN man might be doing his own thing. He told me, "I took the brakes off my car. A man like me never really learned how to stop. I took the steering wheel out too."

I wonder how many people got out alive because the engineers' quick thinking and massive stones in keeping the generators running WHILE THE SHIP WAS SINKING.
This really makes me question the idea of placing all the major electrical systems right next to each other. The chance a strike is going to rip open multiple holds is pretty much guaranteed. Distribute them across the ship. Or hell, at least above the water line
@@2percentright the issue with that is stability. Putting heavy weight towards the bottom of the boat and below the waterline supports buoyancy and stabilizes the ship from capsizing. But yeah, keep the separated would help
@@attigator Especially since the water pumps required three generators to work. A solution could've been to just put three generators here, and the other three there. Then again I have no ship or nautical design/engineering experience so what do I know
The engineers are heros for risking it all to keep the lights on so the coast guard then defalco with and the various ships and helicopters involved in the rescue efforts
@@attigatorweight distribution is a huge part of why it was set up the way it was in general, too. Odds are they couldn't have them distributed evenly across the bottom because of how the weight was distributed on top. They probably would've had to restart from the blueprints if they wanted it to have more durability / longevity. But granted these ships are designed by engineers, who generally overestimate the level of stupid in the world and design ships assuming the pilot is at least relatively competent
When IH calls his avatar Harold I'm actually yanked out of the illusion , where I started identifying the man exclusively with the Historian. That really tells much about the quality of his storytelling.
Imagine my surprise when I got informed by my viewers that my channel got mentioned in this video. I truly am honored. And the comment I gave in my video was 100% honest. Thank you Internet Historian for making this video, I am very glad to see so many people taking interest in the maritime world.
One thing I can’t seem to figure out - hotel director Manrico Giampedroni did not abandon the ship. In fact, he was the very last person rescued. He broke his leg helping others escape and kept himself alive by climbing onto a table and banging a pot against the wall to be heard. He was praised as a hero in many news articles. Why was he given the second most severe sentence of any of the five officers charged? I can’t find any information about his plea deal. Thanks!
Here's what I can summarize base on a quick google of his position and what we saw in the video. His position as the hotel director meant it was his responsibility to ensure that the passengers were evacuated in this scenario and since he was on the bridge at the time of the crash, that meant he was part of the initial cover-up towards the passengers that delayed the evacuation and caused some people to become trapped. He was also blamed for the chaotic nature of the evacuation.
On Historians video, it was said Giampadroni was one of the 2 officers who had the chance to opt for community service, unlike 3 other officers who got standard jail sentences. They were shorter than what they were supposed to be anyway, so I guess it could have gone worse for him.
Also I wondered the same about Roberto Ferrarini in the crisis centre. I was wondering why he was charged at all since he wasn't even on the ship, and appeared to only be making recommendations based on the (albeit incorrect) information that Schettino was giving him via telephone. It struck me that he could only work with the information he had in front of him.
I've got to stop using IH as a calendar. I had finals last week and didn't do them because I was waiting for this video to say it was the end of the week. Didn't realise it was May
@@kkknl Yes, you are correct about "boatload of trouble". De Falco says, "Guardi Schettino che lei si è salvato forse dal mare ma io la porto... veramente molto male... le faccio passare l'anima di guaio. Vada a bordo, cazzo!" The phrase "l'anima di guaio" is regional, and can be translated a couple different ways. Essentially De Falco is saying I will cause you the essence (or existence, spirit/soul) of pain. De Falco is the one who knocks.
De Falco's full phone call was so much more badass than I could've imagined. "You might have saved yourself from the sea, but I will _really_ hurt you." "I am in charge now! You don't need to do any more assessments!" Hell yeah, get his ass!
Some of the flavour is lost in translation but the Falco is clearly a well read man and beside the only curse word "cazzo" can be tranlated with the male sexual organ (in this contest "Get the fuck back on board" is a better translation, the entire conversation has a very direct and blunt tone but no insults or excessively derogatory statements. He mainly orders Schettino to do his job as captain and reminding him he was doing nothing of that sort in the moment.
I still think the best part is him making the boat pun, however it actually goes in Italian. "I will cause you a boatload of trouble" still makes me giggle like a schoolboy.
I imagine when you're a creator of videos on the internet with just you and a little crew of people doing tons and tons of research to make sure you've got the details correct, and then you see these Multi-million dollar news stations with tons of people from all corners of experience on one story not even thinking for one microsecond to double check the footage of the "water flooding the ship" to make sure it's the correct source, that you'd get a teeny bit peeved. That's not even taking into account the deliberate "stretching of the truth" some of these news stations do for absolutely pointless, temporary drama points instead of, you know, archiving what could be extremely important information later on.
@@yozul1 Valid point. But most of the misinformation came from mainstream news networks which have a massive income, as well as access to a. Expensive studios, b. And all of them have no access to what the news networks have, meaning there is some truth to major news being BS.
Thats what happens when your fan base has nothing to do with sensationalizing something literally 5 seconds after it happens. As a news source, if you even took 1 extra day to get the information like 10% more correct, you may as well be like this video and be 9 years later
@@trenchcoatdoggo5185 What do you mean there are "some truth" to major news being BS. THEY ARE BS especially political news. That's why Internet Historian shits on them all the time.
@@yozul1 That's just called journalistic integrity (which sadly has been relegated to independent/non MSM journalists). There's no problem reporting "rumors" or "insinuations" that's par for the course in a breaking story. What's not right is them not telling it as it is (that they're just rumors and unconfirmed) and using false videos (among others) of unrelated events to sensationalize stories even more.
The lesson you should take away from this sort of thing is that the news the immediate days after are always garbage. You'll only get people rushing to publish, rather than taking care with the facts.
The blame was entirely placed on Captain Schettino's shoulders, but there was complacency in all areas of the ship's operation, far beyond the parts that he played. What's worse is, conditions were much better aboard the Concordia than most of the Costa fleet at the time. The emergency generator wasn't working properly due to lack of maintenance, and the emergency pumps can actually be run from the emergency generator, but weren't tested and kept in running order either. Before this incident, there was a worldwide complacency towards emergency drills, to the point where nobody was really sure how the whole evacuation plan really worked. On most vessels the evacuation plans left out so many important variables that in most real incidents they wouldn't have worked anyway.
Yes, but at the end of the day, the captain of a ship is responsible both for the vessel itself and for all souls onboard (hence why there's the old stereotype of a captain going down with his ship: it was their responsibility to safely get the ship to its destination, they failed, and they are "accepting responsibility"/"atoning for their mistake" by seeing the accident through to the end). The public would likely have been far more sympathetic with Schettino's version of events if he had actually STAYED AT THE BRIDGE, INFORMED PASSENGERS OF THE EMERGENCY SITUATION, AND COORDINATED WITH THE COAST GUARD TO SPEED UP RESCUE EFFORTS. These days, people can understand if the captain doesn't "go down with the ship" or isn't "the very last person rescued from the sinking ship", but there's still a massive difference between "a captain who puts the lives of the passengers before his own, and remains at his post until nearly the last possible moment or until he is relieved of command by the rescue team" and "a coward of a captain who runs from the bridge the moment a disaster happens, and tries to be one of the first ones to leave the ship".

Y’all don’t know how rare it is to see an Italian public servant who’s actually dedicated to good public service. This man is refreshing, even if he was 5⭐️
I’m new to the Italian political sphere. Who exactly are Five Star in terms of their political alignment anyways? And on top of that, what did they do to make DeFalco start a beef with them? I’d heard something about him opposing an anti-migrant measure in Italy but that’s about all I could decipher.
@@patrickcross1571From what I recall as an American, the Five Star Movement was developed as a grassroots alternative to the established Italian political parties, a hodgepodge coalition of various political movements to try and overtake the current regime. They’ve been described as right wing, and in certain aspects they reflect the right-wing populism of the current age. Make of that what you will, I suppose?
Honestly I feel like it's rare in most countries with elected officials to have those in power truly care about the people and not their own personal interests
I massively respect that you're acting as a mostly impartial researcher and not some dealer of justice trying to pull up the past to chase people down with. Sure, you have your leanings, but you're not intentionally posting personal info like a call to arms. Doing that is way too common these days.
Seeing actual news outlets do that is enraging as one of your biggest jobs as a journalist is to protect your sources, which they simply dont do and its why I think so many epople refuse to contact them when something happens just post it to social media and actually leads to alot of misinformation. I respect also the fact that IH actually corrects the record on things he may have either gotten wrong or sensationalized, somthing again we never get out of the mainstream press (as shown by the clips in this video)
I mean Titanic also planned to have a safety drill during the cruise. So it may not be that unusual. What is slightly more unusual is cancelling it. How much it would've helped if it was performed we will never know.
"We need generators to power the water pumps. Also we need water pumps to get the generators working." It sounds like there was a lot of incompetence from the people running the show.
You have thousands of customers to brief. You can only run a safety briefing after everyone is aboard. People usually have giant suitcases. People usually can't deposit their luggage into their rooms until AFTER staff has just cleaned up from people exiting the ship just hours before the new customers board. Imagine trying to drill thousands of people with thousands of big suitcases up and down stairs and elevator and hallways. Everyone has a specific "muster station", usually marked with a letter and a number to flee to in the event of an emergency. This ensures that everyone has a place to go and that they don't all crowd around 1 lifeboat. Everyone must be aboard and have free hands to practice this maneuver. The drills are actually run within minutes of departure, and are well in range of rescue services before that point. Cruise ships all over the world have this whole process down to a science. Just so happens that THIS ship was wrecked within minutes of departure, and also didn't even try to call rescue services until it was far TOO late. It is not like putting a seatbelt on after you're on the highway. It's like smacking your mailbox before you even get on the street!
The accident itself isn't solely the captain's fault, but the bungled response to the accident is solely his fault. Crisis management is one of the most important aspects of leadership.
The captain of the "Oceanos" cruise ship bailed too and the ship's entertainer Moss Hills pretty much took over the captain's duties and led the efforts in getting everyone off the ship safely. All 570 passengers were rescued by helicopters, Hills being the last to be plucked off the ship.💜 (Hills was also aboard the "Achilles Lauro" when it caught fire and sank). In the "Oceanos" sinking, the captain said he gave the orders to abandon ship and if anyone didn't do that, that wasn't his problem. The company also let him be captain of another passenger ferry afterwards until he retired.
@@kempolar9768 In fact, the captain said when he ordered to abandon ship, it doesn't matter what time he leaves. "Abandon" is for everyone and if some people like to stay, they can. (Because he thinks some people "like to stay" on sinking ships).
There was also a captain who abandoned ship two years after Concordia. In South Korea there was a ferry called the Sewol. This ferry had capsized and everyone on the bridge had made no attempt at contacting the about 400 passengers still on board, and just abandoned ship. The Korean coast guard wernt helping and the government was actively covering up the incident as it played out.

@38:30 I am honestly impressed that Internet Historian's proactive security measures to thwart wikiFeet extend to blurring feet out of 1 second of footage on a secondary channel.
I love your intro about the engineers and how the ship actually works. I am actually a marine engineer and as far as I know the EDG situation was only the way that it was because of different regulations between countries. I know that in the US ships are required to have their EDG's like 2 or 3 decks above sea level which prevents water from shutting the EDG down. If the Costa had been a US flag ship the EDG at least wouldnt have been getting flooded as well as overheating. It's also not so much bad design as banking on the fact that the captain knows how to drive. The EDG is really only ever used to start the ship from a cold start where nothing is online. Additionally in the shipping world the higher you get in pay grade the less work you do but the more responsibility you take. The captain is the person the company gets to blame when anything went wrong basically a scapegoat even though most of the time he's literally not even on the bridge. It's a pay increase in exchange for higher potential jail time, if you don't know that as a captain then you are perfect for your position.
I'm personally glad you haven't done a face reveal, because I would not accept that voice coming out of any other face than cartoon Hide the Pain Harold.

De Falco chewing out Schettino over the phone made me the most uncomfortable I’ve been all week. I feel like I’m getting yelled at by my mom. De Falco is fucking terrifying when he’s pissed.
I've had the pleasure of shaking his hand. De Falco is a rock solid dude. Backstory. I was apart of the Costa Concordia salvage team for nearly 2 years. De Falco came to visit us during the salvage.
I've been a truck driver. A very good one. Tractor/Trailor trucks... also known as "lorries" to you brits. It is very easy, once you've been trained, to drive a big ol truck like that, though. Shift when appropriate, handle downgrades with care, turn wide, etc. What makes you a *good* driver is how you handle when *things go wrong.* When you miss the gear, or the routing you have tries to take you under a bridge that's too low, or a mechanical error forces you to stop on the highway. That's where I think Schettino fails as a captain. He's fine when things are fine, like how things work most of the time, but when things aren't fine he falls right the hell apart. *Beyond* "not fine".
How is it that the more I learn about De Falco, the more I respect and admire this man? At this point I nothing will shake my belief that his name and rank is *actually* Captain deFalcon.
Because you don't know shit. He was complicit in the practice of getting dangerously close to the shore, and used this piblicity to get a seat in parliament.
I just realized that in the ad. The dog can talk but no one can hear him speak. Everyone would have freaked out. Luckily Raycon ear buds are such great quality and price, that the crisis was averted. You did it again Raycon Man.
In my opinion, Schettino deserved his punishment once he started lying about the situation to the passengers and shirking responsibility. Everything else I can accept, his bad moves and judgment up to the point of the crash are whatever, but as soon as he knew water was coming on board the ship and people's lives were at stake, he should have done everything he could to save those people. And if he couldn't handle that responsibility (which he clearly couldn't) fucker shouldn't have been made a captain.
dude absolutely cracked up the pressure and froze up. he was def not leadership material. sadly though, its kinda hard to tell who is gonna snap under sudden pressure. thats generally why we go with experience for positions like this.
I think the best description of my opinion on Schettino was from another comment- he didn't do anything wrong until the ship crashed, when he absolutely cracked from his lack of experience and the pressure. From there on, he still tried a bit until the evacuation where he just went into full run and hide mode. Not captain material for sure.
@@GekkoOne I wouldn’t say he did nothing wrong… the whole crew was complacent before the crash. However, his actions after the crash turned the situation from bad to criminal…
Yeah, he might not have caused the wreck, if his orders were followed properly it likely would have been a near miss...but once you start lying to the Coast Guard after it's clear the ship is fucked and then completely abandon ship instead of doing your fucking job, you are clearly responsible for all the mess afterwards.
First of all: this is a fantastic way to make use of all the cut content in an entertaining meta format. I genuinely think of Schettino whenever I have a bad day, just as a reminder that it couldn't possibly be worse than when he sunk a 450 million euro ship.
Even better thing to remember when you have a bad day: UCP camoflage, costs billions* to research, was deployed for troops and.... It camouflaged you in your grandmother sofa, from the 80's
@@brendandonohue2398 Nah, they switched from UCP (Universal Camouflage Pattern) to OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) at 2015. After that I have not head of any other news than they are deciding what to do with the old hardware with the UCP camo, to dye it or scrap it.
The thing is, without an officer on board coordinating the rescue, De Falco had no way of knowing reallly how many people were left on board, if they needed medical evacuation, how many were already dead, or where the remaining survivors were located. Schettino and the rest of the bridge crew basically put the coast guard response on the highest possible difficulty and added needless deaths to the casualty list.
Can't believe you animate these in Premiere. As an After Effects animator, I'd go insane! That said - I already knew exactly why these videos take so long. It's the same reason they're so incredible. The amount of attention to detail even in tedious hours of work. It always goes appreciated.
Raycon: "We can no longer justify giving you sponsorships." IH: "What? Yeah, they come in six different colors." Raycon: "Your right. We can't stay mad at you."
De Falco: "There are corpses already, shittino cmon" shittino: "how many corpses are there?" De Falco: "I don't know, I know about one. One that I am aware of" he was talking about him lmao
He says "Non lo so, uno lo so, uno l'ho sentito", which literally translates to "I don't know, I know one, I heard one". I assume the actual meaning is "I know [about] one, I heard [about] one" though, because the original italian phrase is grammatically incorrect. If it was a sick burn, he worded it kinda badly unfortunately =/ I think he was being serious. (I am Italian by the way, if it wasn't obvious)
Personally, I think Schettino received a harsher punishment than was appropriate. Yeah, he was operating his vessel in a somewhat reckless manner and he did the wrong thing at almost every point following the collision, but he was not malicious. Just foolish and incompetent. He should never have been allowed to command in the first place. And while folks call him a coward for abandoning ship and shirking his responsibility to his crew and passengers, I personally think that him walking away like he did was probably the best thing for everyone. He was like a little kid running around in the middle of a house fire, clueless of what to do. His Junior officers we're also lazy and incompetent but who knows what would have happened had they not taking things in hand themselves. Schettino obviously lacked the sterner stuff required for command of a large ship and therefore also was oblivious to the responsibility that goes along with carrying passengers aboard such a vessel. As soon as things went wrong, he was useless. He enjoyed wearing the uniform and the fancy suits, socializing with the beautiful people, going balls deep in a Moldovan mistress, and probably had just enough skill and nautical training to pass exams for his ship master's certificate. But he too, like the Indonesian helmsman, was lacking in some abilities required to do the job properly, apart from being a handsome face to mingle with the customers who called him Captain. Makes me wonder how he got his master's papers in the first place. I wouldn't let him command my bass boat around the lake looking for better fishing, much less appoint him master of a large ocean-going vessel. All that said I've kind of got away from my original point. Francesco Schettino should not have been shouldered with all of the punishment for this tragic grounding and I think that punishment was a bit too harsh for what was essentially an accident. While a ship's Master is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of his vessel, there are plenty of others who deserve to share some of the accountability for this incident. Mainly the powers that put such a clown in the captain's chair in the first place and those who gave him an incompetent helmsman. The complacency of his officers on the bridge falls upon his shoulders as well though, he failed to set high standards to correct their deficiencies. But I don't think he deserves nearly two decades in prison for that. Costa Crociere and whatever governing body issued his master's papers bear some responsibility as well and got off with not even a slap on the hand.
@@imvandenh while he was undoubtedly used as a scapegoat, he deserved an even higher sentence regardless. for even if incompetence shouldn't be punished too harshly, cowardice should, especially given what said incompetence and cowardice resulted in (dozens dead XD)
Imagine risking life and limb, as the engineers, trying to keep everything turned on beneath 6 feet of water, and then you have to find out later the people at the helm were just FUCKING AROUND doing absolutely nothing of use with this power?!
@@loganwendigo937 I started in filmora but since it is kinda limited, after couple of videos I switched to premier pro. Learning and editing on the go for a 6 minute video took me 4 hours. So it has a learning curve but its worth it.
Watching all the layers and stuff in Premiere Pro made my head spin. I've used it in a very basic sense, I didn't even know you could nest stuff in it.
Holy shit dude, I thought you did this stuff in After Effects! It's no wonder the shit won't render! I've found over the last 2 years that AE usually saves me from opening up Photoshop to do cutouts or similar stuff because it's selections tools are actually good.
*Internet Historian* apparently had not ever heard the tragedy of MS ESTONIA.. M/S Estonia sank and over 800 people died. The Estonia disaster occurred on Wednesday, 28 September 1994. And it was way more catastrophic and fatal sinking than Costa Concordia..
If anything AE would be worse for rendering. While you can use AE for general video editing it's supposed to be used more for motion graphics and visual effects. Since that is what it's built for, it has essentially a totally different architecture for rendering. With longer videos, especially ones like Costa which are 40+ mins with a ton of assets, simply playing a couple seconds of footage to check your edits could take ages to pre-render, then only to not play back at normal speed and randomly slow down to .15x speed cause it's trying to process frames. Meanwhile, on Premiere Pro playback is instant. Plus, it's a much simpler workflow. On AE you can't just put video clips next to each other in a single layer, everything is its own layer, and when you're working with so many assets it easily gets out of hand and difficult to manage, even if you try to organize everything into precomps. I really wish there was some middle ground between the two applications. Cause Premiere Pro is much simpler, lighter, and more intuitive, but on After Effects you have way more direct and precise control on a level you just don't have in Premiere.

27:46-28:29 Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me of that nightmare of a tale. The Moby Prince...let me try to sum up that particular story as much as I know about it. For the curious, what happened was that, as it was leaving port, it collided with an oil tanker, which sent crude oil onto the entire ship. When it managed to get out of it, a spark lit the outer hull, and the crew and passengers were forced to go to a fireproof room to escape, having very little if any time to stop the ship...or shut off the Air Conditioning. As a result, outside of *one* guy who jumped overboard during the initial dash to safety, everyone ended up dying from smoke inhalation and/or burning as the fire spread rapidly through the hull, constantly sending out maydays as they were unwittingly and unknowingly getting further and further from shore. Now, I know what you're thinking-how did the Coast Guard miss a giant fuckoff ferry? Well, they were responding to the tanker which also caught fire, and were only aware of a collision involving what the Captain claimed was a Tugboat (This was false-he was in communication with the Prince during the initial collision. Whether he was lying or misremembering the ship is unknown). It was only after they put it out that by sheer luck (picking up the one survivor) that authorities were alerted to the Moby Prince's plight...but by that point, everyone had already died. While I will admit it isn't as apathetic as that one South Korean Ferry Disaster where over 300 students drowned because the government was twiddling its thumbs in terms of actually helpful rescuing, the Italian people had pretty much a similar reaction to all of this, and the debate continues to this day as to what actually happened.
@@kamie3543 Crazy part is that I only know this because Fascinating Horror did a video on the disaster. It should also be noted that the ship never stopped moving after it got out…meaning that it went quite a ways before the burned up hull was found.

I get the whole "Devil's Advocate" thing... Gotta be fair to all sides. But before anyone watching the video feels any pity for the captain: Keep in mind that by his orders, he sailed that ship near the shore at 16 knots, which no sane sailor would ever do, especially one with 4,000 passengers aboard. And of the 32 people that died in the wreck: Two of them were a 5 year-old girl and her father. Schettino and his crew abandoned ship like a coward instead of doing the right thing. The last sailor to leave the ship was an officer who was not on duty and only aboard by chance.
I totally get you but I thing in this case in particular is it important to make clear that the Captain wasn't the only one at fault here and that it at bare minimum was just as much the fault of the helmsman and the navigation officer both of which not doing there job right. And yet both got of with hardly a slap on the wrist given what there are partially responsable for causing. While the Captain certainly deserves his punishment for the original dumb decisions, allowing his crew to be so layed back and all of the stuff he did after the crash from trying to hide it to refusing to help people to get off the ship. So do many of the other crew members deserve far more of a punishment than there got as all the blame was pinned on just the captain.
I am still trying to understand how so many people died. Like what killed them? They should have all had life vest right? Rescue relatively fast since the ship was so close to shore and the water wasn't that cold. Sure I guess some of them could have fell, got trapped or hit their head. But 32 just seemed like alot of people. Couldn't people have just jump into the water and stay there with their vests for a couple of hours maximum.
@@NoOne-xb3jo the passengers had not yet recieved the instructions for how to act in a state of emergency. Some where told everything was fine and some went back to their cabin. Some took the elevator in a panic. Some were just in shock
@@NoOne-xb3jo you have to remember that there was no direction until it was already too late. A lot of passengers most likely had no clue what to do, especially since they hadn’t done the safety briefing yet, so the panic probably cost some of those lives. It’s possible some were trampled to death and that some people who didn’t know what to do unknowingly made some dangerous decisions (such as going to the wrong muster station, not knowing where they even were, not taking the designated emergency exit routes, and not knowing how to properly put on a life vest). Also, Russel Rebello died helping others off the ship, prioritizing the passengers safety first. So, a lot of factors probably contributed to that death toll

I agree. That was the best part in the recording :D

@@attigatorweight distribution is a huge part of why it was set up the way it was in general, too. Your videos were excellent as well! You added a lot of good context and were very educational.
Yes thanks Vince! You're a good lad
Hi Vince love the channel
Yeah I have just spent the last 3 hours wondering that too. Thanks for the responses.

On the field information from field reporters, c. Prestige as they are a mainstream news network . Meanwhile the ones who reported the story accurately, including IH, were journalists which most likely come from lesser known publications.

Safety briefing DURING the cruise? That's like saying "I'll put my seatbelt on once we're on the highway!"
"I mean, who would crash the ship in the first da - Oh."

What!
@@isabellind1292 Not his problem?? Did he even read his job description past the first sentence?
To be fair, I get the feeling that he knew he was going to get thrown under the bus no matter what happened.

@@Kylemsguy Well yeah that's why I'd agree he's not captain material by any means.

“Get back on board! That's an order!”
DAMN. They really mean it when they say the captain should always go down with the ship.

0.0 holy shit what a badass
Schettino was basically the only one where justice was served, kind of. DeFalco and the engineers deserved better, the officers far worse.

I hope Internet Historian has heard of Rotobrush 2. It'll make cutouts of images super quick.

Went and read the Wiki. That's fucking horrifying.

I was so shocked by the spaghetti transition when I first saw it but now that I've heard u explain what went into it I think it's genius film making. $3.50 spent + the pot itself and I will always remember seeing that. great work man!
God, you're giving raycon their money's worth. That was spectacular.
His ads are extremely entertaining even if you don’t want to buy the product
They're fools if they don't adopt Raycon Man as their mascot. He's right up there with Long Long Man in the highest echelons of marketing icons. Godspeed, Raycon Man. Godspeed.
@@WobblesandBean I'd have more respect for NordVPN if they took on NordVPN Man as their mascot. That'd be brave.
@@WispyWoodsman especially after he stalked and ended up killing a woman
I might have to buy some raycons myself
I’m surprised that this is high quality traditional/conventional journalism, like you addressed difficulties and mistakes, most journos would just subtly change their articles or whatever, or double-down on their mistakes. I find it disappointing that mainstream journos are so bad compared to you. Keep it up pal.
Is Internet Historian not a mainstream journalist with his reach and millions of views? He's definitely not a conventional journalist, but at this point I don't even know what people mean by a mainstream journalist.
@@gljames24 maybe by mainstream he means traditional journalism with what used to be news papers now moving more into online articles on New York Times etc.
@@gljames24 i’ve edited the comment for clarity, I meant traditional journalist, not mainstream, IH is undeniably mainstream now.
I already had mad respect for Internet historian for editing. (As an editor for a company I recognize loads of work) The moment he said that he had to re record the full video with OBS I lost it. You guys are so committed to your craft
I’m finding this video two years later but I really appreciate that you put so much into this. Your sense of humor is hands down, the best. The seriousness that you put into this video is heartfelt and genuine. I appreciate that just as much. Your channels are all great!!!
Cheers,

@@NoOne-xb3jo an asian couple slept through the whole thing, imagine if they werent found theyd be stuck there and evemtually die
"Just Paired" on the back of the car during the ad made me lose my shit. Fucking love your ads
Can't believe a "Behind the scenes" of a semi-meme video kept me way more entertained throughout than most regular shows I've seen. The IH team is magic
Dude, you literally make any ad hilarious, I usually hate ads but yours are the exception, your comedy and vids make my day always, hope you’re doing good with everything going on around us
