Fish On Friday during lockdown saved me. Seriously FoF helped me to survive that period i'll never forget it. Fish is now a national treasure.

Great interview. Only ever a passing Marillion fan, so not really up to date with everything that's gone on since he left - but I am now. Fantastic guest and a really good conversation. May well check out some of his solo stuff too.

Good value doesn’t begin to describe him.

Fish looking well (keep seeing Bill Maynard merged with Patrick Stewart) and the accounts of synchronicities are remarkable and relatable for me.

I get why he's moving to somewhere remote. A simple grow your own life where you never care about the news and spend your days looking at the sea sipping beverage is attractive. Will take some adjusting to though.

Always an entertainer ... raconteur extraordinaire ... this video is a essentially a precis of his Fish on Friday videos which are always worth dipping in to ... I saw Marillion back in the day at the Capitol in Aberdeen, saw that Hibernian team beat my Aberfeen team at Easter Road in '72, was at the Lemon Tree gig in 2020 and have bought my ticket for the Music Hall in Aberdeen for (currently) the 3rd last gig ... his lsst studio album was superb and, hopefullly, after time will be recognised as a classic .. the video for Garden of Remembrance is beautiful and very poignant ... his band at the Lemon Tree were super tight ... expecting a great closure to a great musical journey. Thanks for video ... CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland

What a great episode, very much enjoyed that. If only David and Mark could've made Fish open up a bit! I wonder if Fish and Danny Baker ever went for a quick pint? Would've taken about 10 hours.

    Ah...Fish on Tuesday!
I first heard about Marillion when I saw the March, 1983 KERRANG music magazine with Fish and Peter Gabrial pictured side by side with their war paint on and the caption was:
    ' Progressive Rock, 1973-1983'

There is a parallel universe where Fish is still in Marillion and they are touring stadiums around the world Pink Floyd style!

    • @MrBenmanning
      @MrBenmanning 6 місяців тому +1

And in my imagination it's not the pink Floyd you know it's one led by Syd Barrett with Kevin Ayers as most of the others left years ago as they think the lead singer is mad ...

What a great interview. I listened to it on my dog walk earlier today and then watched it again later the same day. First time I’ve ever done that. Fish always comes across as such an interesting guy. I’m not really a fan of his music to be honest, but I could listen to his stories all day. Best of luck on the outer islands Mr Dick! 👍

I first saw Marillion back on the Script Tour, and saw Fish many times afterwards, and have seen Marillion well over 100 times, stopped counting years and years ago.
He is clearly a writer, and I got so much stick from Fish fanatics for saying he wasn't a technical singer, and that has voice has gone, so it is refreshing to hear the man himself say he was never a technical singer, and his voice is 'old'.
People who really are gifted singers, can keep singing, unless they have a vocal injury, well into their twilight years, there are countless examples of that.
Fish is a little bit like Toad in Wind in the Willows, with his projects, so I truly hope that this succeeds for him, and that he is happy as a Crofter.

What possible reason could members of "The Church of Marillion" have to dislike Fish so? Obsessive fans can be SO weird....

So grateful I had the opportunity to see the Fugazi tour in NYC at the Ritz. Nobody knew this band, there were maybe 30 people in attendance. But I knew them. Great fucking show.

I was introduced to the chap by a mutual friend once, before a football match.
He smiled, shook my hand like he was absolutely delighted to meet me....then casually turned away and blanked me. Smoothly effortless, I thought at the time.

I believe Iain Banks based Danny on Fish and if it was ever filmed, Fish would be the absolutely perfect in the role. He's too old now but Espedair St should have been a film! Sad that Iain has gone but the big man is still with us. Nice to see him getting a bit of respect from the very music journalists that would have torn him down in the 80s

I remember David's interview with Fish in Poland in Q well. As far as I recall, they gave the wad of Zloty they still hadn't been able to drink to a cleaning lady at the airport. This was another great interview, though you should have asked him if he remembered shooting himself at the end of Forgotten Sons on Whistle Test back in, I think, '83.

@@allanforrester2612 Fish is bowing out to become a Hebridean shepherd. What’s he learnt in 45 years onstage? 19.3.24. I feel... and hope... it'll make a change from the frantic mass hysteria of the past decade...that 2024 is going to be a leisurely stroll of a year. maybe the year to mull over those things one wanted to contemplate a while back but never had the chance due to others jostling and barging their way.. o, and farting through reglementary realms they had no right to be rummaging about in. all very idyllic.... but sometimes those things need to be mused upon...whatever those things may be. they've sullied enough notions, as it is. damn the hoi polloi. as for crofting - once hard lives lived have become hobbies and life lived as it is nought more than a middle class revolt. we all hanker for a piece of comfort, for sure. all this being (ooooo-errrrr) hard is a tad disconcerting...what have the dynamic duo, who feature in this podcast, learnt over 45 years? let's face it, they've lived a damn sight more interesting lives than most of us. anyone got a decent lemmy anecdote or a Rick Wakeman, drunk on the manx Ferris wheel tale to tell? LoL... on the cusp of a wave. my public will kill me for dying at a time like this, said the Scottish ham to some old lunatic....
