I remember being a little kid circa 1970 at the local 1/4 mile dirt track when they still used the ENTIRE infield and track for demos. These are the cars that still stand out in my mind. My sister has a pic of her husband lined up for the event. The cars are parked next to each other noses to the wall at an angle 3/4 of the way around the track. If only to see that again! At least 100 cars all at once.
Imagine going to a derby like this in the 1960s, seeing 1940s & 1950s cars with inline 6’s & a 3 speed transmission (shifter on the column of course). In all seriousness, I’d rather see these cars go out like this instead of it rotting & sinking in the ground, & the owner saying “I’m going to fix it up one day.”
Well, i have mixed feelings about driving these cars in a derby. I my opinion this is the most spectaculair class to see a derby, that cars like Honda's en Toyota's ,just can't match. Even the sound of roaring V8's is giving me goosebumps. Japanese cars at the most only havr 4 cylinders. But i know what you mean in a way
Kinda sad knowing that all these cars stood the test of time only to end up in this sad heap. Makes you wonder if old cars could talk what kinda stories they would tell. Like smile on the face of the first owner or the teenager in the family taking his girl out to the drive in or malt shop. All the experiences that happened in these old steel body's unique experiences do to their time period. Now not only are those experiences and memories gone but so are the only thing left of them and that's the physical objects left behind. I own a rusty old 1953 plymouth. And I'm slowly getting her back on the road. These old cars sometimes have forgotten trinkets in them and lost personal belongings that also help to tell the story of the cars past. I know my car had it's fair share of surprises when I first cleaned it out. I couldn't do this sort of thing to my old girl especially after her 68 years of existence. No, one day she's gonna be like the day she rolled off the assembly line and we're gonna make new memories together. It's sad to see these old cars never made it into loving hands. And just like their past they will be gone forever, what a waste.
it did not have the factory drive train in it, as most of these cars were running without the original drive train, back in those days the inline 6 was king!!!
They were junk before they started not one of them had the original motor, transmission or rear and most of them didn't even have the original frames under them
She did good tho. That was my friend mike newgent . That was a one owner car too lol. Just took it to the junkyard a couple of weeks ago. See you next year.👍
I have noticed that some cars have "hoses" mounted to both of the exausts. Does anbody know what's the purpouse to build it this way? It's especially more interesting due the face that some cars have it and most cars don't
@@All4HimRacingVideos Oh, nice. I tought at first that it was a tool to produce extra flames to make it even more spectaculair. Thanks, i have learned something new. I'm from The Netherlands (Europe), and we also have a similliar kind of demoliton derby, but it's called "Banger Racing". Instead of driving on a rectangulaire or square closed track, we are driving on a oval were the speed is quite high with awesome (backbreaking) crashes. It's very spectaculair. If you are interested, i have a link below where you can see the hardest hits. The main goal to win at a banger race, is to finsh 1st in a 20 round heat, and everything is allowed, except driving in de drivers door on purpose. In a day you have multiple heats, with quater finals, half finals, finals. And at the end when the winner is pronounced, every car that is still running will participate the "Demolition Derby". I'm very curious what you think about out banger race. Kind Regards, Mark ua-cam.com/video/Bv1f0g3RVxI/v-deo.html
This is wack. A rat rod build of literally all of these cars would have been infinitely cooler & more worth it. Historical cars like this aren’t replaceable. Each one destroyed is one less that will ever exist.
It's like one of these replica Classic Cars that last a Party, and then they break down and their bodies bend out of shape by the end of the Party, but you don't really care, because you're not gonna drive it anymore.
? 59 OR OLDER IS THIS REQUIREMENT FOR THE CARS 🚗 OR DRIVERS AGEGES BECAUSE WATCHING THIS HEAT I THINK I WALK 🚶♂️ FASTER THAN THESE GRANDPAS AND OR GREAT + GRANDPAS ARE DRIVING OOPS SORRY DID I SCHRATCH YOUR CAR OH SORRY WE AREN'T IN A PARKING LOT BUT A DEMOLITION DERBY HEAT
American banger racing is so lame compared to British and Dutch bangers. Shame that these antique cars were cared for so long after their natural life span only to be slowly crunched into each other. Either build them fast and road legal, or build them fast and turn them inside out on the track.

They have to some strucural strenght to withstand some of those hard crashes.
@@opoxious1592most of them were welded together patched here and there they're just parts cars that they finish off in the derby
Love these relic classes... Really displays how durable older cars were.. these things hit like a truck and hardly bend.. good video thanks
This was the era that cars were actually made out of metal, instead of the 70% made out of plastic today.

MALT shop
That was brutal... I've never seen an Imperial so scrunched up before... those old Merc's are beasts!
Christine was there and looked brand new the next day
😂😂
So sad to see the old Mercurys and the Edsels..so sad
That’s real metal out there none of that today’s metal shit
Think the old Edsel ran better in this derby then it did when it was on the showroom floor.
it did not have the factory drive train in it, as most of these cars were running without the original drive train, back in those days the inline 6 was king!!!
Which one? There are two Edsels. The red 58 and the blue 59 Ranger.
I love how they don't really even dent at first just bounce off each other!
Really to bad this is happening in this day of age.
Why destroy rare antiques?
Crybaby
Love watching these relic classes, but wish someone would run one on a dry track! Or preferably asphalt!
This is some cool stuff. Car’s that have been sitting in barns for years finally get to scream one more time!
With all modern engines these cars put on a great show. With engines these cars came with short derby.
Absolutely none of these cars should be in a demolition derby. All these cars should be saved and restored. What a waste🤮🤮🤮🤮😠😠😠
No matter how bad shape these cars were already in, I could not bring myself to do this with them
All the old iron should be in derbys old Camaro mustangs chevy all of them
This is how old cars should be put through
I agree with you
They were junk before they started not one of them had the original motor, transmission or rear and most of them didn't even have the original frames under them
so this is why i cant find a $500 project car lol
I knew Christine would be in it to the end
@Corvette Guy and a Plymouth. Lol.
That's real fuckin steel
Clinger vs the world. Man he’s a driver.
This should be a crime
They were sitting in a junkyard rusting out because no one wanted to restore them in the first place. So the derby crowd got them instead.
Awesome I went to a car show the other day and all I can think is that would make a good derby car LoL
Amazing video!
They should do this on concrete, or round an oval track, like we do in Europe. On a mud bog it is boring as hell.
Well I see the 55 Packard finished its 2cnd derby again in 5th place what a shame.

Did #409 have literally no radiator? Am I seeing that correctly, or did they put the radiator in the cab.
He's running an alcohol motor they don't need a radiator
@@stevemalm9502 Wild, what's the advantage over gasoline?
Alcohol motors run cooler than gas engines
What model was #228? I was rooting for that guy. Very cool looking car.

before anyone derbys a car, i need some of that trim. I need stuff for a 1952 chev if you find it lmk
It sucks they had to run that 55/56 Chevy... It was worth restoring
? Closest one is a desoto

They could've restored it and sold it for way more money than winning the heat
The people that sold the car to the drivers probably didn't even know it would be a derby car
There was no money for the winner
No traction doe :(
Funny how people get upset. These guys put a ton of work into these cars to send them off in style. 👍
