Upgrading your Dad's machine with an i7-10700K and a 3080 (10 GB) card should provide him with a decent experience in MSFS 2024. However, if he's only running 16GB of RAM, I would increase it to 32.
3080s have horible hotspot temps. Still run ok for gaming but the only way to fix is to use copper shims on memory as far as i have seen Happy Birthday Pops
4060 for 150 ad sitting for 3 weeks? US is crazy.. Here in Canada used ones are selling for 300+ CAD and if it's 250 or less they're flying away in few hours after being posted on marketplace (I was looking for one few months ago).
That's insane!!! My dad love Flight Simulator he has been playing since 1998 eversince we bought our 1st home PC (lol Compaq Presario). I believe it's Flight Simulator 98, I will build him a new PC soon because he's using an old HP desktop Pre-built.
You could have replaced the entire cooler with an aftermarket one. Zotac basically uses the same exact founder edition's PCB but uses their own HSF and charges a little bit less than an actual founders edition card.
That is what I'm talking about finding good deals on GPUs and you cannot go wrong with that. This is why we love what we do is build systems for our needs and is functional for the use as PC builders we set it for nice on the 8GB 4060 GPU.
I was bidding on "used" elite 2 xbox controllers but ended up pulling the trigger on a new white "core", 1st impression are off after one horde on Doom eternal but I firmware updated yesterday so test 2 tonight. I got the missus a 4060TI for her i5-9600 even on gen3 I am impressed max we both 1080p & she multi tasks & that little 6 core cpu keeps up well for Genshin etc. Supper efficient GPU.
You may need to reinstall drivers even if they are both NVIDIA cards.. they are different generations.. though why would you if you expect the performance to be lower? lol
Yeah the low profile 4060 is a lot better card for an SFF build. Power draw will drop by 200w so the thermals should be fine in ITX case. 😃 Not to mention the size and not having to use the octopuss dongle. 🤣For a 120 bucks that card was a very good deal. Perfect for a 1080p SFF rig. 👍 And btw the 3080 should be about as fast as a 4070 sooo there mite be something else going on with your test setup. Looking at your CPU usage it maybe that the CPU is a bit of a bottleneck for both GPU's and more so for the 3080.
For your dad I would switch to AM4 used CPU 5700X3D with a 96Mb L3 cache is much better in F Simulator and a decent used MBO. Power draw of the 5700X3D is max 141W while gen 10 I 7 is about 190 W so the Zen 3 is easier to cool and better performer in FS. In the long run you'll suck more performance out of the AM4 platform and longer driver support than intel 10 gen MBO chipset . The 3080 will overheat even in a well cooled case, is a power hog specially the FE but, than in FS the 320 bit VRAM will be very helpful.
I know you mentioned the cpu in the video but that is your issue here. As you can see in your testing the 3080 is only at 55-60% utilization. You are cpu limited in the test.
a 4060 is slightly under the performance of a 2080, and much better than a 1080ti. It should still perform much lower than 3080 but that likely depends on the game and if there's some hard FPS limit to a given game title. So a 4060 is not a bad card, it's just NVIDIA prices it badly. For the price of a 4060 you can get an Rx 7600 XT for $50 less and performs the same, assuming you don't care about RTX, which drops performance anyway, but FSR on AMD is real good right now on modern cards.
The reason your not seeing much of a difference in the gpu swap on your test bench is because your cpu bottlenecked. With a stronger cpu you can see as much as a 40% fps difference between the two gpu's. But since your only doing a "mobile" 1080p gaming setup that 4060 is fine.
i would take advantage of having a 40 series card and try Cyberpunk as theres 40series exclusive settings in that game. i think theres two path tracing wants 4070Ti or 3090 but there is another setting thats just 40series, otherwise in all honest i fail to see the benefit of having 40series over 30series.
yeah man love this card upgraded my victus i bought for 300 preorderd stalker 2 hoping it will run 5 5600rtx 4060 havent run into any trouble not running games just was coming from console gaming didnt no parts where proprietary so kinda stuck wit it even tho price was unbeatable no upgrade paths besides cpu to r75700g and ram psu is maxed now 500w soo only thing is is almost maxed
offcourse it's running better.. you never have heard of bottlenecks? big ass gpu on a less capable cpu, will be less frames because they (cpu and/or gpu are waiting on each other..) i got an 3070+6800xt on a 5800x3d. while my second pc (bit older intel i7/6700k is running a 5700xt i even think thats bottlenecking the cpu. but i don't wanna put the gtx 1070 back ;p (because of linux)
Hi i have a dell 7090 optiplex with intel i7 11700 so im planning to upgrade its gpu to rtx 3060 and a psu will it work good in the stock dell motherboard and ram can someone please guide me .and planning to get a good cpu cooler aswell
Don't know what hardware you r using but them frames r bad .I have a m.s.i build with a air cooler and a fan at the top using a 4060 I play warzone and get anything from 150 to 180 your games r not ram intensive and getting low frames and high temperatures
I reaching out for advice and please people dont down me I have this GPU for almost year but............I rethermal paste this a while back because of the dry thermal and one pad and came off also flickering once a while So last week it started it again doing that flickering thing so am I useing bad thermal paste ? or gpu is going ? and note this is a aliexpress I follow this build from Toasty bros but the board is good me I put 32 gigs of memory because I wanna make sure Im using al them cores and I know its a server cpu but this was build on a poor man budget is why Im asking so laugh at me I just cant afford I do have a i5 in my old board but there old and its a socket 1150 and it was good but i wanted more with the bang and I did get my nephew that temu pc too that I followed but his is doing good -_- playing fornite and dont know what else now the card Im talking about is mine and I didnt pay attention when buying it but its RX560 not a Rx580 So any good advice without doging me ?

Good son, taking care of your dad.
Enjoy him while he's here.
Happy birthday, Pops. I would NEVER open up that 3080 FE, not for love or money.
Happy Birthday Pops! Hope you enjoy the GPU upgrade.
Happy birthday to your pops
Nice content as always bro. I think you did the right thing. I work 60 hrs a week so i understand
Happy birthday to youre Dad and also to you and youre wife ...great video again ..Greetings from me Koos out of the Netherlands

good to know
Im running a 3080 10gb , a 5950x 0n a x570 Dark Hero motherboard, its is a kick ass system .

Happy B-day Pops 🎉🎉🎉
Happy Birthday to your Dad i couldent aford a GPU like that nice 00000000
It's called a bottleneck😁 HAPPY BIRTHDAY POPS 🎉
Happy Birthday to your dad great vid
Man I haven't played MS Flight Sim since like 2002. I should try the new one.
It's certainly revolutionary as compared to the old software; however, it's imperative that your PC hardware be relatively current.
You may need to reinstall drivers even if they are both NVIDIA cards.. they are different generations.. though why would you if you expect the performance to be lower? lol

What a nice catch !!
190 bucks for a repaste? aint no way
yea a bit pricey for sure

$190 to repaste and do pads...... I am in the wrong line of work
yea me too!!!

Yep. Hard bottleneck there.
Yes, he said he was held back by the CPU. He knows.
yea def cpu bound

Hey, did you get any of that hurricane?
just the rain but nothing bad at all
@@DLMtechgarage That's good!
Duck no time to watch right now 🫠 but I’ll watch it later
Should test both GPU’s with MSFS…not some rando games Pops doesn’t play. That VRAM difference just might matter.

An interesting video - but, you need to put the camera DOWN while you are DRIVING!
Sick
I'm a little confused. You traded a what? for a 3080? I don't hear very well at 74.
Turn on the subtitles

That cpu was at 100% in the last of us. So maybe there was a cpu bottleneck
Nice... And damn, that's an upgrade and more owo"
190 to re paste and repad a 3080 i could do it myself in half hour good god and yes done a few myself and changed a few to waterblock
yea a bit steep
but was on a time crunch
Deffo needs a ram update to 32gig.
did that this week. made a big difference!!
Lol need to plug power cord into the PSU for the computer to run lol you silly
it def helps
yeah man love this card upgraded my victus i bought for 300 preorderd stalker 2 hoping it will run 5 5600rtx 4060 havent run into any trouble not running games just was coming from console gaming didnt no parts where proprietary so kinda stuck wit it even tho price was unbeatable no upgrade paths besides cpu to r75700g and ram psu is maxed now 500w soo only thing is is almost maxed

4060 is no slouch, will run you at 1080p with no issues and the $120 price tage is friggen amazing.
Hmmm, stop means stop, not roll through. Just saying.
Hi i have a dell 7090 optiplex with intel i7 11700 so im planning to upgrade its gpu to rtx 3060 and a psu will it work good in the stock dell motherboard and ram can someone please guide me .and planning to get a good cpu cooler aswell
Your cpu is bottlenecking your 3080 a ton. Upgrade to 5700x or 5700x3d or 5800x3d
it uses a single 8 pin not a single 4 pin LOL
I'll take your 2070 lol
Don't know what hardware you r using but them frames r bad .I have a m.s.i build with a air cooler and a fan at the top using a 4060 I play warzone and get anything from 150 to 180 your games r not ram intensive and getting low frames and high temperatures

Replace the missing pad? Also run msi kombustor, it has a built in artifact scanner
Thermal pad ok
There is something up with the 3080, a 4060 shouldn't be at par with a 3080.
cpu bottleneck
Happy Birthday Pops 🎉
