Any beach is fine for me but OCMD is more sentimental due to being my family vacation spot growing up. I loved it so much I moved to west OCMD close to beautiful Assateague Island. My Happy place!
I live about an hour from Maryland's OC and so it's a lot of memories there for me, been going there since I can remember. I never went to any other beaches until later in life, I went to Virginia Beach, which was small I felt, and then I did go to Wildwood, which I did enjoy. But my beach will always be OCMD. I went into the haunted house built by Bill Tracy there with my parents, then with my wife, then my daughter, and then my grandkids, as well as many of the rides there at Trimpers, which are actually historic. The Inlet was there ever since I remember, but was actually made by a hurricane, and is very popular for ocean anglers here. They have a White Marlin Open here every year which brings in a very high revenue, attracting people like Michael Jorden. The Eastern Shore itself has a very unique culture, if you have time during a stay here, I suggest leave the beach a few days and see Smith or Tangier Islands, it's like going back in time, St Michaels and Black Water Wildlife Refuge which is a beautiful example of the Eastern Shore Wildlife and how much of it looked before settlement. If there, Stop and see the birth spot of Harriet Tubman, the store she was almost killed in, and the museum that was built for her. I love where I'm from, I can enjoy Ocean front, rivers, country charm, City Charm from Washington DC and Baltimore, or mountains all within a two-hour drive. I feel blessed....
That inlet is actually why OCMD didn't really expand. I saw some old city planning drawings years ago, and there were areas marked off for industrial zones and an airport (and not the GA only airport just on the other side of the bay.)
OCNJ is a dry town. A very important fact that was overlooked. Whether that’s a plus or a minus is in the eyes of the beholder but it wasn’t mentioned.
@@mistersirthegoodsirocean city still had alcohol banned so yes. Honestly its a good thing because unlike wildwood, there aren’t many drunk idiots in public.
It sure is a massive selling point. No bars means no problems….except for the fact that Gov. Murphy made a law so those rascals can get away with it more often….
I’ve been to a lot of different beach towns and Ocean City NJ is by far the best for family vacation. I always stay within walking distance of everything so no need for a car which is convenient. Another plus is alcohol is not served anywhere on the island which deters a lot of partying. I’ve been going to Ocean City NJ for years and its been my home away from home❤
We've been going for a week for almost 20 years. It hurts seeing the problems they're having with kids getting drunk and high, never saw that until last year.
@@1972RaySo many kids today feel as though they can do whatever they want without consequence. It’s probably due to the deterioration of the family along with the need for a two parent income, which leave the kids unsupervised. Sorry for getting political but our government has always been at the root of every mess.
@@tracyoldfield682 I sort of agree, but IMO, the actual problem is that the liberal SA in Trenton does not want the kids to have any record with the police, and that's exactly what they need. Local police, if they see a teen with a joint in one hand and a beer in the other, can't detain, or even get a name. OCNJ police want the ability to at least hold these kids until a parent picks them up, they may get that this year. They've instituted a curfew. A liberal policy, meant to protect the little ones, is actually hurting the kids, go figure. Local officials know they have to do something, or else you might just as well go to OCMD.
Ocean City, New Jersey, which originally found it as a religious retreat the founders decreed keep the sabbath holy absence from alcohol. There are a lot of churches in Ocean City New Jersey.
Cannot believe you didn't mention that Ocean City Maryland beach is free... Yet you have to pay for Ocean City New Jersey's beach access between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A major factor to consider on your chart for beaches.
Yeah but I'd rather pay a few dollars for a better beach. Finer sand, waves don't crash right before the shore, doesn't get deep quick and less riff raff.
@@mikewillett5076 I go to LBI and we pay for beach badges. Insane! This past weekend it was assholes to elbows on the beach in Surf City. The waves crash on the beach and the actual beach is too damn narrow. Finer sand? They dredge the shit out of the ocean in NJ when they have the Noreaster every year. Do you mean to tell me you have taken a sample from OCMD and OCNJ to compare the two? How would you know which sand is finer?! Want finer sand, go to Seaside or Walton beach in Florida. That is fine sand! My favorite is when there are live munitions in the sand and also medical waste at the NJ beaches. Never heard any of that in OC MD! You mention riff-raff a lot and I seem to remember that riff-raff invaded two of the NJ boardwalks recently with fights and threats of a shooting. Weren't the World Trade Center bombers living and plotting that crime from Wildwood? Wasn't a 15-year-old stabbed in June on the OCNJ Boardwalk? Nothing like that in 2024 with the OCMD "riff-raff" as you like to refer to over and over. You argue like Trump with non-factual opinions and racist/economic overtones.
@@tberman2386 . Actually my sand comparison is between Wildwood and OC Md and it's night and day. OC Md varies 80-180 grit. Wildwood is close to 1000 grit. Myrtle Beach sand is somewheret in the middle.
@@tberman2386 . And you seem to be on both sides of the issue. All I was saying is that OC MD has been known for upheaval on a more regular basis. The current liberal leadership in NJ has a stupid no arrest thing for minors. They know they won't be in much trouble, what do you think is going to happen? And riff-rafff comes in a variety of colors, I mentioned no color or race. And I wasn't talking about LBI! !! You just seem to like to argue and have points AND counterpoints on the same issues. 🤣
I've never been to Ocean City, NJ. As a Quebecer, our destination has always been Wildwood, NJ. However, this year, we are switching it up a notch by going to Ocean City, MD. Can't wait! Thank you for this video.
I hope you have a good time in Ocean City, Maryland. Don't forget to drive over to Assateague Island to visit the wild ponies. Also, 5 miles from Ocean City there is the town of Berlin which was voted one of the coolest towns in America.
I played junior hockey in Canada and am from the ocean city NJ area. love seeing the Quebecers in wildwood and cape may. We always do a “staycation” where we camp in one of the campgrounds in cape may county. It’s filled with Canadians and I love it!
I’d love to come up your way and visit Quebec sometime soon. Went to Montreal about 45 years ago, so I’d say I’m due! Quebec City looks great to visit - and to practice my high school french!
Basically, both towns have their own pros and cons and both have a lot to offer. I like both places. The main reason I prefer OCMD is that you have Assateague Island with wild ponies and miles and miles of white sand beach without any hotels, shops, or anything which is a nice alternative if you want a break from the crowds in Ocean City.
I've been to both plenty of times since early childhood. They're too far away from me since I have moved out of state now but boardwalks have always been a nostalgic place to visit. Both of them have their own pros and cons. New Jersey's was obviously closer coming from someone who lived an hour away yet 3-ish hours from Maryland's. My family and I visited there often to go to the boardwalk, ride some rides, get ice cream, and go down those little stores; especially this one place that had cats and you could watch the cats playing and sleeping from the windows. Maryland's is visually more memorable and is also has a location of the world's best pizza place; Grotto Pizza. (They better expand their business to Ohio someday lol) So con-wise, NJ has some real winners for people (one of the reasons why I moved far far away lol) and MD has the most hostile seagulls you'll ever meet. (This is coming from someone who nearly lost his fingers after trying to eat some french fries and minding his own business. I'm still traumatized today; it's been 8 years. Thank God the seagulls are a lot more docile here in Ohio!! But the same can't be said for the geese...)
Definitely the most qualified for this… from someone who lives year round near ocean city Maryland and has a beach house in ocean city New Jersey where my family and I spend most of the summer time. I will say this ocmd has a better board walk and is better if you’re looking to party. But if you looking for more of a relaxing luxury kind of feel ocnj is for you. The one big thing wrong about this video is the beaches OCNJ has nicer beaches hence why you must pay to access them. Ocean city Maryland is where I go with my college buddies ocean city New Jersey is where I go with my family. I prefer ocean city New Jersey. I personally enjoy the people food and atmosphere more in ocnj. I’m from Maryland and I have always thought of ocmd as the trashy dirtier version of ocnj. They are both great vacation spots it’s all in what you’re looking for and what your budget can afford Hope this helps.
Being originally from Baltimore, and mostly living in the New Jersey / Philly area, I find that interesting. Growing up, I've been to both places many times. OCNJ is where I would take my family if my kids were young, but OCMD is where I would take them if they were over 18. (The biggest downside of OCNJ is that there are no good fresh seafood restaurants!) Now, retired, I live in Myrtle Beach and find it to be a great compromise between a shore town and a suburban location. And our beach season is 8 months out of the year. The thing I miss the most is raw clams; it's all about oysters down here.
Great video. We are from Baltimore and always felt like we had to go to O.C. MD. Until we seen O.C. NJ. on the weather map one day and wondered so we visited and have never been back to MD. since. O.C NJ. is actually a twenty minute less of a drive without having to drive the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge and O.C NJ is a dry town that makes it even more family friendly.
Smart folks! Awesome that you broke from the OC MD spell. OC NJ has the better beach hands down. Will never convince most people from our area though. And good!
@@mikewillett5076 You forgot to say nice beach that you have to pay to use! Need a Beach Badge so that Beach towns can give rich kids a summer job, beach badge checker. Such garbage! In Maryland, the beach is free!!!
@@tberman2386 . The beach I mainly go to in South Jersey is free. But you know what? Unless someone hits the beach many many times per year, it's only a few dollars and they have season rates for frequent sand dwellers. There's less riff raff in OC NJ vs Md by quite a bit. (on the beach, boards and in general). I'd gladly pay a few bucks. My friend who lives deep in Marylands Eastern Shore went for the first time and was amazed. Loved the much finer sand, flat shore break and nicer mix of people. OC Marylands beach really isn't that nice. I don't hate OC Maryland and go once in awhile, but my favorite thing is, it draws in the masses. Lol
@@tberman2386 . I don't like to give it away too much, but Wildwood. Wildwood Crest in particular. Nicer than the actual town of Wildwood. It falls on deaf Maryland ears though so no harm. Lol
Ocean City New Jersey is awesome. You get the ell.od the ocean, places around the beach area , attractions and amusement for the kids . Just a great place to go for the weekend. Wildwood and Atlantic City a short ride down the road.
@@haydenwiltbank2249 . Also been going since I was a toddler, and while I'll still go to Marylands OC once in a great while, I hopped off the, "ya gotta go to OC" train a long time ago. Lol
Floridian here...(Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale raised) OC MD was a real surprise for its charm, cleanliness and endless options..... WE will be returning soon.
Wildwood was a lot of fun when I was there about a year ago. There are other things to do nearby if you get your fill of the beach and boardwalk; you can find a handful of wineries in and around Cape May along with a few parklands.
Went to OCMD as a kid back in the 70's. As I got older I started to head south for the beaches. Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks. Now I keep a camper near Rehobeth Beach and head down to OC occasionally, but prefer to go there out of season now.
@@tberman2386 . Geez you really like to make your counterpoints, lol. Ok, I DIDN'T say that Myrtle Beach and OC Md are twin beach towns or extremely similar. Of course they're unique from each other. But what I WAS saying is that they're BOTH very commercial, with MB being more so. The same big box beachware chain every 10 blocks. Countless blinking LED marquees screaming, "eat here, do this here". Plenty of big name hotels. And they both scream resort.
@@mikewillett5076 And OC NJ says "hey pedophiles, kids are here everywhere! Diddle all you want. Hey Camden County Trash, come to the OC Boardwalk and stab anyone you want." Pointing out again, nothing like that in OCMD this season. No unruly youth on the Boardwalk, forcing it to be closed on one of three holiday weekends either!
I've been to both many, many, times. I think I like the Delaware Seashores the best. I will not lie, it has been over 30 years since I have been there, so I really don't know what they are like now. Growing up in Hbg, PA., working "at the shore" during the summer in high school and college was a dream for many Mid-Atlantic teenagers and a nightmare for their parents.
Used to live in NJ, now I live in MD, so I've been to both. Main difference IMO is that Ocean City NJ is officially dry, no bars or restaurants serving alcohol (there is a big liquor store just on the mainland side of the bridge so you can stock up). This isn't true of Ocean City MD. So for a family with kids you'll probably prefer NJ. If you're a 20-something and want to party with friends, you'll prefer MD. --- Oh, and you've got to mention Manco Manco Pizza, a local chain with 4 or 5 outlets, a staple of Ocean City NJ cuisine. I'm sure MD has fine pizza, but NJ is just better in that regard IMO. Anyone on the boardwalk is sure to grab a slice.
Let me tell you: Mack's Pizza is pedestrian at best. They have been trading off a name / brand for years. Just for people who want to eat pizza on the beach (take a walk, dad). Vastly overrated, but yet a legend. How can you improve or screw up a lump of dough, a spoonful of tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese? It's the Italian version of a grilled-cheese sandwich, basically. Then you just add shit on to it. To each, their own, I guess.
I have gone to both but now living in Florida visiting the next three weeks. We will be going to Marilyn’s Ocean City, which is my preferred location. Thanks for the video.
If we’re talking ONLY the Ocean Cities, OCMD is the one for me since I’m a Maryland resident. But if we’re talking the beaches period? I’d have to say Assateague Island. I just have more memories of going there during the height of, and the waning month of summer respectively. The trip out there with close family most times, and one of my dad’s brothers for one day during mid to late August as the fear of returning to school kicks in, just hold closer to heart. Part of the route there always has us go past a big willow tree as a landmark in the directions. On a good day the waters are chilly, but reasonably warm after having come up from Florida, while the wind is strong and the waves are always choppy. You can’t convince me otherwise that that beach is ever “calm.” I’ve been on a calm beach before, and that was in another country. That beach was known as the Cove Beach at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. It had a whole artificial reef thing going on. One time the beach got to Assateague levels of active, and I could feel part of the reef near the shoreline that the water and sand decided to cover it up. The water was usually clear, but that time was as murky as OCMD’s public beach. The flag said one thing but instincts said another; One wrong step into the water, and you’re gonna be using that Travelers Insurance because you’ve got urchins in your foot now! What I’m trying to say is Maryland Beaches appear to be training youth in the ways of FAFO, and we were 1000% ready for it. We wanted the full power of Poseidon to strike us down with all-powerful waves as we do a Monkey D. Luffy impression for the Facebook likes.
@@jmp622 . Which OC has the softest sand? Lol, this is a comparison on the 2 different ones. Asking because I know for a fact that OC Marylands sand is overall pretty course. Don't know about OC NJ but the sand in Wildwood has extremely tiny grains.
Thanks for sharing this! Having lived in suburban Philadelphia my whole life my family has spent summer vacations in OCNJ, but I had a childhood friend whose family went to OCMD! I always wondered how the towns differed. Now I know! Also, people in this area have their favorite resorts from their childhood days and tend to be very loyal to returning to the same NJ beach towns throughout their lives. There is a rivalry as to which NJ beach town is the best! You did fail to point out that OCNJ is a dry town, with no bars or restaurants serving alcohol, so if you want to go out to have a few drinks you need to head over one of those bridge to Sommer’s Point or one of the nearby shore towns like Sea Isle City, Margate, etc.
lol that's not true. If your going to a good restaurant in OCMD you get reservations. If your waiting for hours your not doing it right. My family has had a condo in OCMD since 86 and have never had this issue. I would love to know what popular restaurants your talking about?
Re OCMD, It's not the only beach town in the area. It borders Southern Delaware with a number of beach towns including Fenwick. Bethany, Rehoboth and Lewes.
Yeah, I thought that was an odd statement - especially since I prefer going to those beaches and they are even a little closer to most of us in the DC and Baltimore suburbs.
I think the biggest difference between the Jersey shore resorts and Ocean City Md. is the fact that OC Md. has a bus service... If you are staying on the Island just walk to a corner bus stop, or if you are staying on the main land you can drive to the "park and ride" on route 50 park your car and take the bus to the inlet and with the paper pass you get when you pay your fare you can ride the busses all day as long as you show that pass to the driver.... New Jersey beach resorts don't have that service so for example if you re staying in North Wildwood you have to drive to the crest and either pay for parking or find parking on the streets, not easy to find street parking and sometimes even a pay parking lot that is NOT full... The second difference I find are the beaches... OC Md. beach is shallow and known for rip tide, while Wildwood beach is very wide at spots and the sand is fine as in not course... My family and I have been to all the beaches you have mentioned and they all have their Pros and Cons it's all a matter of preference... ENJOY...!
Though bus service is more limited in NJ beach areas as opposed to LCMD, there are jitneys that run all throughout many of the NJ beach towns. The one that runs during summers throughout all The Wildwoods costs $3 from point to point.
Not sure where you're from but you got it exactly right. Almost everyone from Maryland thinks it's gotta be OC Md all the way and for all people. OC NJ doesn't even count for them. O know several families who don't drink or go to bars but go to OC Md every time. Idiots, but let em keep it crowded there!
I HAVE BEEN GOING TO OCEAN CITY MARYLAND FOR THE LAST 35 YEARS. THE TOWN AND BEACH ARE BOTH VERY CLEANN. DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR OCMD OFFERS AREAS WITH ALOT OF ACTIVITY AND ALSO AREAS THAT ARE QUIET. OCMD IS A GREAT PLACE TO BRING YOUR FAMILY AND MAKE YEARS OF GREAT MEMORIES.
ocean city over everything! i stop at crabs to go in berlin,md to start my beach getaway and end at Hoopers. Boardwalk is always fun and stuff to do for all ages.
OC MD is much more modern than NJ. OC NJ has a "dated" feel and nothing changes. So if you just want to relax and gave a quiet time, go to NJ. If you you want action and the latest in activities, then MD.
Yes! OCMD = Fort Lauderdale North during the summer. But I like that better. Now that the Gillian family is pulling out in NJ, who knows what will happen with that town.
OCMD has so many better restaurants. Seacrets, Macky’s, Hooper’s, Crabcake Factory, Higgins, De Lazy Lizard. I could go on and on. Free beaches, much more to do also.
@@thomascollier4421 can’t forget about Charlie’s, diorios, Smittys clam bar, docs. I haven’t tried the New Mexican place that’s replaced clancys but heard it’s good. Some really good spots 😎
Grew up going to OCNJ. Loved it. Small family friendly. Have been to OCMD many times too but more during college as it's bigger and more catered to partying with clubs and bars. I prefer now as an adult living in northern VA DC area Rehoboth Beach. Rehoboth reminds me more of OCNJ in being smaller and more family friendly.
You didn't mention traffic. As a native Delawarian I'm here to tell you the NJ, NY, PA crowd no longer goes to Jersey. They clog up the entire Delmarva peninsula. I'm a OC Maryland / Delaware beaches guy. But don't even go any more. They have over run the place like an invasion.
Because of the Delaware Bay, OCNJ and OCMD are not really alternatives to each other. Depending on where you're coming from, one is convenient and the other is not.
I live in the Lehigh Valley. Which is an hour and a half north of Philadelphia. I still go down to OCMD. The noise doesnt bother me. I rather take a 4 hour drive down, you can stop at Meding and Son restaraunt which is not far from Lewes. Hit up Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey (aka THE COLLEGE PARTY BEACH), Bethany, Fenwick Island and stop at the Fenwick General Store before you end up in Ocean City Maryland. Cool thing is that if you were staying in Lewes, you can take the Fairy over from Lewes to Cape May, NJ. Its technically Route 9
Went to Ocean City NJ every year from 2007-2019, once in 2004 as well, and I’ve only been to Ocean city Maryland once back in 1999 when I was really young. New Jersey is of higher quality for sure from what I know, but it has somewhat gotten worse due to crowds from Philly coming in lately.
We had a place in OCMD for 30 years. (I miss it) The beaches are free can't say the same in NJ. I now live in NJ. Took day trips to a lot of the beach towns. Lots more people in MD. Destination for Baltimore/DC area. I've noticed a lot more PA plates going to DE/MD beaches.
Never been to OC,NJ. Really love all the bayside restaurants/nightlife in OC, MD (Fish Tails, Fagers Island, Seacrets), Assateaque Island is awesome. Would love to hear a comparison of the fishing and golf courses (MD has 20 very nice courses within 1/2 hour)
I only go to Ocean City, Maryland in the off season (preferably during the week because weekends are more expensive). I don't like the heat, humidity and crowds during the summer. I only go to Rehoboth for the day to shop at the outlets. .
I worked at Dept.of Public Works in Ocean City, NJ for 32 years. All my friends like MD better. If your tired of all the drugs, liquer,crime..and like the elite and rich...NJ is for you. It is basically a family resort...with a beefed up police force.
Wow, you do have Ocean City in Maryland. You go a little bit up the street you have other places in Delaware that connect to Ocean City Maryland other beaches.
@@tberman2386 I've been to both. Been to most beaches on the east coast including Wildwood, Seaside Heights, Virginia, Hilton Head, Myrtle, and Daytona. I prefer any beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida. No comparison at all. Jersey Shore is trash
Grew up in NJ, but prefer Ocean City, MD. Beaches are nicer, NJ has too many rules and you have to pay. Ocean City, MD is a great place, and if you want more family atmosphere stay closer to Fenwick, DE.
Ocean City NJ is a great place for families who don’t want the drinking and wild party atmosphere. Ocean City Maryland is much better for those who are single or couples who want to party more.
Even as a New Jerseyan, I would say Ocean City, Maryland is better. In Ocean City, MD there are more arcades (both on and off the boardwalk, where Ocean City, NJ only has two arcades on the boardwalk, both of which are iffy with maintenance of their machines; third one is coming back after a fire destroyed it in front of the amusement park but that one will probably be mostly redemption machines instead of arcade machines), more amusement parks (Ocean City, NJ had two, one has permanently shut down after summer 2024 and most likely being replaced with condos), much bigger and cleaner water park, more diverse and numerous stores, and more buffets (Ocean City, NJ has no buffets, you either have to go north to Atlantic City, south to Wildwood, or northwest to Egg Harbor Township).
I live in NJ and I say Ocean City MD is better . It’s free and there is a lot of fun. Ocean city NJ is a dry town and more quiet family while MD is just really fun.
NJ beaches have their fair share too. LBI had a rash of car thefts around 4th of July weekend this year . Gangs of car thieves coming down from North Jersey and stealing open cars with the keys in them. 35 cars stolen that weekend off the island in 48 hours. Those are big city numbers!
Don’t know about Maryland but, it is hella hard to find parking in Ocean City, NJ during the summer months. That and having to pay to get on the beach is kind of a bummer too.
Agree with you! Went to OC NJ one time and had to drive around for 30 minutes looking for parking to go to a friends house. Most homes have a spot or two and other have none at all! It is like row homes at the beach with on street parking! Never had an issue going to a friend's home in OC MD and finding parking at their home or right in front or adjacent to it...not block and blocks away. Oh and again, the beach is free in MD! Don't need a damn beach badge. Oh, to combat the idiot argument that the beach badges keep the beach clean, the OC MD beaches are swept clean everyday by tractors with rakes. Not sure which if any of NJ Beach towns that do the same. I go to LBI and the beach we go to it seems they never clean the beach and if the trash cans are emptied once a week, that would be alot.
Years ago, there was actually rail service to Ocean City, New Jersey. Ridership declined, and the Seashore line stopped service. It might be time to revisit this, as attitudes about transportation are shifting once again. Better public transportation would alleviate the parking situation. Atlantic City still has rail service. In fact, there were trains that went to most of the coastal towns that lie south of Atlantic City. Maybe a light rail network would be practical?
Heck, I’m from the DC suburbs but I like to escape all the northeastern folks and head to the Carolina’s. It’s a culture shock being around so many friendly people!
I lived in NJ for 28 years (worst decision ever) and I'd drive past OC, NJ to the ferry and on to OC, MD. Huge variety of hotels, booze, restaurants and don't remember ever having to wait in line for anything. So much better than OC, NJ.
What happened to the rental prices at OCMD? Houses we stayed in two years ago for 2500$ are now 3900$. And they're all rented out! This year we're going for a week starting Sept. 2, when the prices drop.
How you didnt mention that OC NJ is a DRY TOWN tells me you dont know anything about either of these. There are no clubs in OC NJ because of it. NJ is for old people, MD is for people with kids and who want to drink. As someone who grew up in Philly area, OC MD is superior. Also, there ARE alternatives in MD unlike you said. Theres OC, Lewes, Bethany, Dewey, Rehobeth and Fenwick. Have you actually been to OC MD?
In Maryland, if you say you are going to Ocean City, it’s understood that you mean Ocean City Maryland. I’ve never heard anyone say, “I’m going to Ocean City MARYLAND.” That said, I usually go to Rehoboth for a day trip to the shore, and to the North Carolina beaches for longer vacations.
Let me make it super easy. I'm from NJ, the beaches, bathrooms are dirty and you PAY for them. I'm in Maryland right now, beaches are free and they're clean, bathrooms too.
Same here but shhhh! 😆. I like OC Md once in awhile but it's so overrated and stamped in the DNA of people from our state. Wildwood has the better beaches, better boardwalk, less crowded, and not chock full of people you might know! But let em keep crowding there and going to Myrtle Beach and Outer Banks like everyone in Md is "programmed" to. 😆
@@SusieKatpersonKoch . Let's hope it doesn't become more popular with people from areas that never go. A lot of changes and improvements have been happening there.
For day trippers, OC MD has no place to change when you arrive or to shower off when you leave. Big turn off especially if you're coming with kids. Who wants to drive home 3 hours covered with sticky sea salt and in wet bathing suits. Go a few miles south to Assateague or a few miles north to the Delaware beaches.
I went to OCMD ('22) for the first time since I was a kid. There's lots to do, but food was pricey. Last summer, I went to Wildwood NJ and found the food more affordable. I haven't been to OCNJ yet, but I'm giving it a look along with AC.
Ocean City MD feels more like Virginia Beach than any of the Jersey shore towns. The boardwalk is mostly lined by hotels and lacks the carnival atmosphere.
Just gonna drop a lil side note here. OCNJ is voted the top or 2nd best Family vacation spot numerous times. It's a point of pride. I have been to both, and prefer OCNJ. It's cleaner, and I found the beach in NJ more enjoyable. Granted my family been going to OCNJ since I was, well born, so over 40 yrs. Honestly for me it is simple, do I want to deal with drunks or not. OCNJ is a dry island, holding to it's Quaker roots. You can bring alcohol onto the isle, and drink it, but has to be in the rental residence. So, until recently, you get less crime, and idiots doin stupid shit. Just food for thoughts here.
Are you a major bar hopper? OC Md rules for that. Otherwise it's ok. The boardwalk is decent but doesn't hold a candle to Wildwoods but most Maryland people think it's the best (lol). The beach is "ok". Other than that, OC Md is one of the most overrated shore towns, ever.
@@jimweir6500 . Lol you don't have to be a big drinker to enjoy OC MD. Just making a point that there are more family friendly, calmer (less craziness) less crowded beach towns to enjoy. And with better sand, better waves. So yeah OC does rule for bar hopping. All day bus pass, and tons of bars up and down. Not my first choice for vacation (and I do go to bars) but I like to experience the commercialism once in awhile. So many people I know take their kids. Not friendly waves at all, and the sand is abrasive!
@@jimweir6500 . Yes I know people drink at their places in OC NJ. But overall, island-wide, the extreme party craziness isn't around. While I'm not as familiar with OC NJ as I am Stone Harbor and Cape May, I find the people much nicer and approachable than in OC MD. Most Maryland people seem more "guarded", the "I don't know you" vibe. Guess it depends on the combo of who we meet to give us our impressions. Also not as familiar with the sand in OC NJ but I find the sand in Stone Harbor light years better than the Md beach And I'd rather pay a few $ to not be towel to towel with strangers and an overall better class of people.
@@jimweir6500 I agree Jim. Grew up in MD and OC MD was my place as a kid. It was great and never any issues. My wife is from PA and grew up on LBI. Have been going there for over 20 years now, but still mis OC MD. Where I go, too many North Jersey and NY people since they have been priced out of the NY area. Way too many tank tops with NY Yankee barb wire tattoos at the beach bars. There is no boardwalk on LBI, so the lifers say that keeps away the riff raff. LBI is not dry like OCNJ, so you can get a drink or byob to every restaurant. What gets me though, is paying to go to the freakin beach! You need a beach badge and it has to be for the stupid town you are in. Not like there would be a universal badge on LBI so if you wanted to go see friends at other beaches on the island! OCMD..go to the beach for free and go to any patch of it and pay nothing!
Why did you not mark Strathmere??? I have a 3.2 million dollar house there and that is just kind of rude because you are leaving Strathmere out by you are not leaving out the rest of them.
@@ryanpayne7707 Its probably the best fate, if not they would have kept building all the way to Chincoteague, lol....
OCNJ is a dry town. A very important fact that was overlooked. Whether that’s a plus or a minus is in the eyes of the beholder but it wasn’t mentioned.
What do you mean? Surely you aren’t talking about alcohol?

Cannot believe you didn't mention that Ocean City Maryland beach is free... Yet you have to pay for Ocean City New Jersey's beach access between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A major factor to consider on your chart for beaches.
With no alcohol sales, it's helps.
Maryland sucks bro lmao
Basically, both towns have their own pros and cons and both have a lot to offer. I like both places. The main reason I prefer OCMD is that you have Assateague Island with wild ponies and miles and miles of white sand beach without any hotels, shops, or anything which is a nice alternative if you want a break from the crowds in Ocean City.
Agree. I'd rather spend time at Assateague island than either OC.
(on the beach, boards and in general). I'd gladly pay a few bucks. My friend who lives deep in Marylands Eastern Shore went for the first time and was amazed. Wildwood is the Happiest Place On Earth. It says so on the sign over the Boardwalk.

Rehoboth is my spot for beach day trips. But I love the Carolina beaches for longer trips. Topsail is my favorite - very laid back.
Have been to both and if you want the best of both, just go to the Wildwoods! And yes the beaches are free.
Hoping to go to Ocean City Md for a few day this month ( 21-25 ) never stayed there before. Two seniors looking for a short get away from PA.
OC Md rules for bar hopping. You can ride the "drunk bus" all day for $5 I believe. Otherwise it's ok, very commercial like Myrtle Beach.

Hey Camden County Trash, come to the OC Boardwalk and stab anyone you want." My family has been going to OC NJ for 60+ years. It's like my second home. Dry town, great for families.

Judging from the comments section, it's a tie (just up to YOUR personal preference). Wonderful!
No famous pizza from what I can remember (I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2009, so pizza is a no-go,) but we do have Thrasher's Fries.
Ocean city has it all. Easy to get everything you need. Walk, drive or bike it’s easy. Soft sand and cleanest water reports each year.

One major problem with OC MD is the crowds. You have to wait HOURS to get into any popular restaurant. Half your vacation is spent standing in line!
lol that's not true. If your going to a good restaurant in OCMD you get reservations. If your waiting for hours your not doing it right. My family has had a condo in OCMD since 86 and have never had this issue. I would love to know what popular restaurants your talking about?
I've been there hundreds of times, I've never spent more than 10 minutes waiting in line.
Also worth mentioning that OC NJ is alcohol free, right?
I would say OCNJ is better for Familes OCMD is more for the younger crowd
Not sure where you're from but you got it exactly right. Almost everyone from Maryland thinks it's gotta be OC Md all the way and for all people. OC NJ doesn't even count for them. O know several families who don't drink or go to bars but go to OC Md every time. Idiots, but let em keep it crowded there!
Now this is the correct answer.
Or even a slightly older crowd that still enjoys a party atmosphere!
Bro has never seen th ocnj beaches at night 😂😂

Went to Ocean City NJ every year from 2007-2019, once in 2004 as well, and I’ve only been to Ocean city Maryland once back in 1999 when I was really young. New Jersey is of higher quality for sure from what I know, but it has somewhat gotten worse due to crowds from Philly coming in lately.

Even as a New Jerseyan, I would say Ocean City, Maryland is better.
In Ocean City, MD there are more arcades (both on and off the boardwalk, where Ocean City, NJ only has two arcades on the boardwalk, both of which are iffy with maintenance of their machines; third one is coming back after a fire destroyed it in front of the amusement park but that one will probably be mostly redemption machines instead of arcade machines), more amusement parks (Ocean City, NJ had two, one has permanently shut down after summer 2024 and most likely being replaced with condos), much bigger and cleaner water park, more diverse and numerous stores, and more buffets (Ocean City, NJ has no buffets, you either have to go north to Atlantic City, south to Wildwood, or northwest to Egg Harbor Township).

i would rate them equal. OCNJ is smaller, quieter, more family oriented. OCMD is more of a city with better nightlife and much bigger
Maryland for sure
I have been going to NJ for about 30 years but I heard OCM has alot of crime and I heard that from the Chamber of Commerce.
Both thanks to Democrats
Delaware and OCMD all day. The drive alone is beautiful.
DC & Baltimore go the OC MD, I'll take OC NJ and the Philly folks.
Lots of yinzers / PA folks at OCMD as well
Heck, I’m from the DC suburbs but I like to escape all the northeastern folks and head to the Carolina’s.
Md ocean city is better cause boardwalk btw its too in nj but something that isnt in nj its NICK MINI GOLF!!! SUCH A PARADISE
The boardwalk in ocnj is bigger and better though
Love me some ocMD❤
& I live in Maryland only 2 /1/2 hrs away
I like Wildwood NJ better than either Ocean City.
In Maryland, if you say you are going to Ocean City, it’s understood that you mean Ocean City Maryland. I’ve never heard anyone say, “I’m going to Ocean City MARYLAND.”
That said, I usually go to Rehoboth for a day trip to the shore, and to the North Carolina beaches for longer vacations.
Wildwood NJ 🎉 lets meet in the middle 😮
new jersey is the bestever ocean city jerseyshore is really cool
Let me make it super easy. I'm from NJ, the beaches, bathrooms are dirty and you PAY for them. I'm in Maryland right now, beaches are free and they're clean, bathrooms too.
I live in MD and think Ocean City MD sucks. I go to Wildwood NJ
Me too! Wildwood is my very favorite!
@@SusieKatpersonKoch . Let's hope it doesn't become more popular with people from areas that never go. A lot of changes and improvements have been happening there.
Before Covid there was a lot of entertainment at OCMD now there’s not as much
Ocean City NJ, Hands down.. but then again everyone has an opinion.
Who drives three hours one way for a day trip?
@@ryanpayne7707 Everyone that lives 3 hours away.
Wildwood nj
I went to OCMD ('22) for the first time since I was a kid. There's lots to do, but food was pricey. Last summer, I went to Wildwood NJ and found the food more affordable. I haven't been to OCNJ yet, but I'm giving it a look along with AC.
Point Pleasant NJ the best kept secret…
OCMD is my choice
Amazing
New Jersey all the way baby 😉
Ocean City Maryland for sure, in my opinion 🏊
Also not as familiar with the sand in OC NJ but I find the sand in Stone Harbor light years better than the Md beach
And I'd rather pay a few $ to not be towel to towel with strangers and an overall better class of people.
@@jimweir6500 . Lol no winner or loser. Have a good one.
Ocean City Delaware: Am I a joke to you.
You've genuinely confused me.
OCNJ
Why did you not mark Strathmere??? I have a 3.2 million dollar house there and that is just kind of rude because you are leaving Strathmere out by you are not leaving out the rest of them.
For a family vacation, especially with small kids, the alcohol free laws in OCNJ make it the best choice.
I like New Jersey better cause it’s more family like to me and it’s also a Drytown
NJ has way more options.
ocean city NJ is better because it more beach city than MD
go to ocnj on 4th of july.
Ocean city MD I’d like a 2nd home
