One thing I’ve noticed that helps with bending is the brand of harp you’re using. Honestly, practice is the main key to learning to bend and you can learn to bend on any harmonica, but I have noticed that bending is easier not only with certain brands but with different keys. I learned to bend on Suzuki Bluesmasters and struggled for a while bending the third hole without it going flat. I got a few Hohner Blues Harps and noticed my technique could be much less precise but it much harder to make that note go flat. So, what was difficult on one harp was easy on another. Also, higher keys like D, E and F tend to be easier to bend for me than lower keys like G or A. Not tremendously but it’s noticeable. Either way, keep practicing!
I'm about a month in to playing harmonica and I've greatly been helped by your UA-cam videos. I've not got bending working yet but I keep practicing and my note isolation has improved and I'm sure I'll get there. I got a Seydel blues session standard packaged with a start learning book and it's a nice harmonica.
Hi Liam, just started on the first two months of the learn harmonica beginners course. Wanted to say how much I'm enjoying it, can't keep my harmonica away from my mouth at the moment, which is hard as I'm trying to learn in secret so that I can surprise the family at a later date. Just a 60 year old in a sweet shop!!
I can bend holes 1, 2, 4 and 6 all day long and in tune now, but hole 3 sounds like I'm sucking through a straw. Wish I could blame the harp, but I bought two more and still have this problem. And 3 draw half step bend is probably the most used note. It's been a year!
Somehow I'm don't believe this guy is going to teach you ant thing about bending when he's got a course he's trying to sell you on how to bend notes on the harmonica. Call me a pessimist but I have little to no faith his tips will work.
