Good thing that, while Burton third Batman film didn't happened, some ideas were used recently in Batman 89 comic book, including Batman reuniting with Selina, the apperance of Robin (who in the book is new original character instead of Dick Grayson) and Harvey Dent becoming Two Face . In my opinion, that comic book is the official "third film of Burton trilogy"

    • @evanzaremba4722

And those ideas were from Sam Hamm's script for Batman 89 and his Batman 2 script.

Mcdonald's pulling their sponsorship of Batman Returns always felt weird to me because I distinctly remember having two of the Happy Meal toys and one of their special edition drinking cups as a kid.
The toys were the Penguin car that had the umbrella up front that spun when you rolled the car across a flat surface. And the Batmobile that had the spring-loaded ejectable pod. To reference that part in the movie when Batman had to eject the pod to make it through a narrow gap.
And the cup I had had Catwoman on it. The lid of the cup could also be used as a miniature Frisbee as it was labeled as a throwable mini Bat-Disk.
So I don't know if it was only select McDonald's that canceled their promotion or if it was already underway for a bit and then had to recall all remaining toys and cups after the cancelation. Thus giving kids a small window of time to get ahold of a few toys and cups.

That backlash Batman Returns caused led to Tim Burton pass on the torch to his friend Joel Schumacher and help out hiring Lee and Janet Scott Batchler to write the screenplay for Batman Forever with Akiva Goldsman doing revisions, and Val Kilmer stepped into the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. It would have been very interesting to see Tim Burton’s take on the 3rd Batman film but I think in hindsight, it ended up working out in the end, even though we did get that horrible Batman & Robin film, we did eventually get the phenomenal Dark Knight trilogy by Christopher Nolan.

4:53 This is NOT true whatsoever. There were only three scripts made for Batman Returns. Sam Hamm's, Daniel Waters, and finally Westley Strict. And none of them ever had Harvey become Two Face. Nor was he rewritten to be Max Shriek. Daniel Waters even denied this.
7:40 Dick Grayson in the script he was in for Daniel Waters's draft never had him wear the suit. In fact, he was only written to be a streetwise car mechanic with the letter R on his jumpsuit who repairs the Batmobile. And that's it. If there was a costume fitting, you'd think we would've seen the props by the designers by now?
As for why Robin Williams wasn't Riddler. Well it was actually for something back in the original movie. Jack Nicholson originally turned the Joker role down and the studio tried finding other other actors like Robin Williams but this was a public stunt to get Nicholson back. And this broke Williams's heart that he was bitter towards WB that he turned down the role of Riddler for what WB did to him. Even The Mask featurette brought that Robin Williams turned down the role.
So these urban legends MUST DIE!!!

At least it would have been better than either of the Shumacher ones. I might be alone in this, but it clicked with me. And we had a great Billy Dee Williams-based Two-Face, though clearly Richard Moll in the animated series was light years better.

Can you do Lego Superfriends, the cancelled sequel to the Lego Batman Movie as well? We have yet to receive a leaked script but we had a pretty detailed production history and what it could’ve been about.
In the sequel the Justice League would have a more significant role and the plot would have featured Batman’s relation to the Justice League (particularly Superman) in the present day as well as flashing back to the past (taking inspiration from Godfather 2 and Boogie Nights) with the founding of the Justice League by Batman and Superman in their youth and the villains would’ve been Lex Luthor and OMAC.
The reason this movie was cancelled was because Warner Brothers letting go of the Lego movie rights and letting Universal take control of the Lego movie rights for a five year deal following Warner’s second Lego movie box office bomb with The Lego Movie 2 (after Lego Ninjago Movie)

Actually, Batman Forever didn't start out as a Tim Burton project, it was always Joel Schumacher's baby, according to Ben Wan (The Man Who Knows Too Much About Batman) and Andrew Bush on Superhero Stuff You Should Know. According to their interview with Lee and Janet Scott Batchler, Tim Burton's only involvement with Batman Forever was to hire his friend Joel Schumacher as director and help out hiring Lee and Janet Scott Batchler as the screenwriters. That's why in the opening credits of Batman Forever, Tim Burton was credited as producer.
And it was Joel Schumacher who wanted Michael Keaton to come back as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Lee and Janet Scott Batchler wrote Batman with Michael Keaton in mind. His agency wanted $15 million and the piece of the gross and merchandising, but Keaton never liked the idea of Batman with a bigger role at the time. So he took a pass on it, and Val Kilmer stepped in to the role of Batman, and Kilmer, for me, delivered the best interpretation of the character.
It was also Joel who wanted to do Two-Face, and he already knew he wanted Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones, and that's already a done deal. After Tommy Lee Jones was cast as Two-Face, it was Lee and Janet Scott Batchler who wanted to do The Riddler, and it was also Joel who wanted Jones' fellow Oscar winner, stand-up comedian, Julliard graduate, and comics geek Robin Williams to play The Riddler. The Batchlers did a wonderful job capturing his voice, because Robin Williams was a stand-up guy. Williams read the script and he loved it. Due to a salary dispute, the role went to Jim Carrey.
And Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman was not in any draft of Batman Forever, because they wanted a Catwoman spin-off with Tim at the time, and the Batchlers created Dr. Chase Meridian as a love interest for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Joel originally cast Rene Russo as Chase when Joel wanted Michael Keaton to return. When Val Kilmer was cast as The Dark Knight, they recast Chase with Nicole Kidman.
And it was Joel and the Batchlers who wanted to bring in the character of Robin/Dick Grayson. Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Alan Cumming, Toby Stephens, and Scott Speedsman were on the list to play The Teen Wonder, but then, the role went to Chris O'Donnell, which is a good thing.

Even though I would have liked to,see this movie. I am glad this didn’t happen because I don’t like Marlon Waynas as Robin. It has nothing to do with his race. First he is too old to be Robin. The biggest complaint about Chris O’Donnell was that he is too old. If it is ok for Marlon to be Grayson but not Chris is hypocritical. The second thing is Marlon is the least funny member of his family. I think all of the Waynas family members are funny. Even Shawn is funnier than Marlon. At the time McCauley Culkin or Leonardo Dicarpio would have been good choices for the character. Since Leo doesn’t like doing comic book movies. Culkin would have been better, especially with his Home Alone fame. He would have been great as the character. Chris was great as the character anyway even though he is an adult Robin.

I would like to know why you find it ok when Keaton kills as Batman but when any other Batman actor does it that is wrong. He kills a few of Jokers goons in the church fight scene. The final fight against the Joker, the clown Prince eventually dies. Granted if he didn’t die he would have gotten away on his helicopter. So Keaton Batman did kill him. Second movie Burton gets more creative control of the movie. Batman is more of a killer in this movie than the first one. In this one he kills one Penguin goon with his Batmobile exhaust and another with a bomb in his chest. Batman smiles when it happens too. Also Peguin was a bit excessive. He did bite someone’s nose. Parents complained about this movie. This hurt the merchandise that was made with McDonald’s. That is why Burton was replaced as director with Joel Schumacher and we get Val Kilmer Batman with Bat-nipples on the suit. To be fair I like Batman Forever. I thought it was a pretty good movie and Chris is great as Robin Val and Chris have good chemistry. The villains were done well with the exception of Two-face. Tommy did a decent job but it was a bit over the top. I hear there are deleted scenes that would have added more to Val Kilmer as Batman and would have made the movie better. Many fans have demanded a Schumacher cut be made as of the movie. Sadly it never happened. Since Joel is dead now, it never will happen.
