@@maxpuppy96 I run 10k a month in a 1991 Freightliner FLA, with a 12.7 series 60 that's now just broken in on it's 3rd inframe. Best engine I've ever driven.

I agree with everything you are adding to the discussion but have a question. As an engine builder I always scratch my head as to why someone would list a B 3406 but not a C. The only ever so slightly better part of a b that was that the B was ease of fuel pump setting. All Mains- journals gears are much better on a C. So I guess the question remains as to what the perceived betterment is on the Bs? And to add one more to your list of great engines I've worked on K19 Cummins with 30,000hours.
10 of the greatest, eh? Thats a subjective term...... Not a peep about EMD's or what I would consider the greatest diesel of them all, the Series 71 Detroit Diesel; It made its first appearance in 1937 and was produced through the 90's and theres still a lot out here. They were available as inlines 1, 2, 3, 4, & 6 and as V blocks: V6, V8, V12, V16 ,and V24 and a lot of parts were common to all models (3 cylinder and up). There were countless applications for these engines, the only things I think that never had a Detroit powering it were airplanes, but I may be wrong on that, lol.
Worked in aircraft factory and we had a 4 cylimder Detroit diesel running a couple of lathes leaked oil like crazy but you keep oil in it and it would run like your mom's sewing machine. Never failed to perform.

C12 is NOT one of the best Caterpillar engines. But the 3406B mechanical is just about the most reliable engine ever made. So much so Caterpillar still makes the 3406C mechanical for third world countries that do not want electronics.
One mans opinion. MY opinion is that any list of great diesel engines that does not include the "Screaming Jimmy" two stroke General Motors line of diesels is simply not a complete list.

I think this represents the only 10 engines he could get video of. Not even close to the best 10. Cummins big cams, Mack, Detroit 60 series, John Deere 400 series, Detroit 2 strokes, Duramax shouldn't be on any list other then best boat anchors!

Have to disagree with that first one the Cummins b Series . Throw away engine, no wet liners. Oh yeah Cummins finally came out with a sleeve and a lot of money for tooling to install sleeve. My 2cents: no such thing as a 2 cycle or 4 cycle engine. They all operate on 1 cycle. Proper terminology: 2 stroke or 4 stroke engine. Detroit 2 strokes were used in WWII landing craft destined for one way trip. My mechanic whined they found out they could actually survive the round trip. So we had them for some 50 years.
