Watching this today and seeing him get all blown away by how it’s Bluetooth like it’s the greatest thing in the world is amazing lol. 9 years later and it’s the most common thing around.
I've been trying to figure this out for the last 11 months and just too lazy to go to the dealership. After watching the video I walked out to my car and had it paired and set up in les than 30 seconds, thanks!!!
Strong work!! I'm a tech freak and I could never figure this out on my 3, now got a 2011 550 and still didn't know how, not even the dealer rep could figure it out and wanted me to schedule an appointment to do so. You're awesome for sharing this! One other thing, upgrade to android phone for true tech freak experience. Lose the iphone, lol.
Thanks Bro really helped me out I couldn’t understand why my 750 got all these bells and whistles but I can’t play music off my phone without a auxiliary cord now after finding your video I through it out the window 😂 J/K it’s crazy after all these years this all I had to do🤦🏿♂️ unbelievable🤦🏿♂️You definitely have a new subscriber even tho you made this video 10 years ago it really helped me out a whole century later 😂.🤜🏿🤛🏿
My car is BMW X3 F25 LCI xdrive20d 2016. The menu you showed in the video is a little bit different to mine. From the main menu > select Telephone > select Bluetooth devices > the menu shows connected iphone which is under the option '"dd new bluetooth device". You also ensure bluetooth checkbox is checked. If you highlight the section "connected iphone" and press option button, it will navigate to the bluetooth menu, you then select "configure bluetooth" option, in here I have seen 3 checkboxes ie audio, telephone 1 and telephone 2. All you need is to ensure that audio and telephone 1 checkboxes are checked. That is it. Good luck.
Gareth, Thank you...thank you...so much for your excellent video. I searched in my owner's manual and no information was given regarding music streaming. You are an excellent teacher!
I have owned my 2012 BMW 550i for 4 years and all but gave up on my Pixel 2XL and Pixel 5 from streaming audio via Bluetooth. I cannot say thank you enough! You are awesome!!!
Finally!! I was able to play music from my phone thanks to your video. I have this bmw for almost two weeks and I couldn’t figured it out how to do it. Thanks.
Soooo helpful...I've had a 3series for 3yrs and it bugged the fuck outta me...I had to use my auxiliary cord all the time...so thank u, this made my day!
Thanks for this vid. I feel really stupid but after five years I can finally stream bluetooth. I assumed it wasn't possible and was searching for an adaptor or something to make it work!
Thanks for posting! I couldn't figure out how to stream music from my phone until I saw your video. I have a 2013 328i, so the menus are slightly different, but the concept is the same. Cheers!
You are a champion. I did a retrofit from ccc to cic Idrive. But with swapping firmware/coding etc. There are so many variables that could be wrong. THIS SAVED ME HOURS!!! Cheers man
thanks brother I actually thought I was stupid, until I seen your very explanatory video.had the phone hooked up with contacts just like you did but couldnt stream music.thank you very much.fuck yea!
In order to be able to take advantage of bluetooth streaming capabilities your CiC system also has to be outfitted with the Combox 6FL system as well. The Combox is the TCU (Bluetooth) and media built into one unit. You can also run BMW apps, internet, blah blah blah. Its an additional option that not a lot of 3 series have because its so expensive which is why the M// have this option. Hope this helps clear up some confusion!
In the 2011 E93 LCI, with the Premium system I presume it has the combox 6FL? I cannot get it to recognize my phone, but it is connected. Calls go through the car, but no addresses or music. It shows the BMW xxxxx, but no sound. I have plugged the phone in via usb and still the system does not recognize the iPhone. I am considering the Bovee “Tune 2 Air”? Any suggestions/recommendations?
Thank you so much for making this video. I have a 2011 335I and couldn't get my android phone to play music through the bluetooth. I thought it would pay by selecting bluetooth audio. However, the last part of your video should that you had to select it on the external device list. That made it work. Thanks Again!!
I literally just got my 335i today, and this video is of amazing help, thanks! Also, that you chose Childish Gambino is just the icing on the cake, awesome!
Awesome. I just tried it and it worked on my 2013 325 coupe with idrive. I now can play anything thru my car- music, videos, youtube, etc. I've been searching the web for days and have seen every piece of advice from needing features on music apps to downloading special apps to turning the phone on then off while the idrive is on- all bull$h!t. THANKS!
Yes! Thankyou. Feel abit silly that I couldn’t figure this myself but there you go. Now onto the next idiosyncratic issue this car has. Adore the car, just hard getting head around some things.
Thanks bro! For the life of me I couldn't figure it out ! Lol and I'm pretty tech savvy, worked like a charm , 2012 535i , now I'm just trying to figure out if I can play DVDs while on drive ! Lol thanks again for you video
What if your bmw doesn’t have that Bluetooth feature? I have an 2011 BMW X5 and it doesn’t have the “ Bluetooth (audio)” where you’d usually see it at cd/multimedia
I just moved from an e46 to an e90 and got so excited when I thought I could connect bluetooth audio. But i thought it just was phonecalls.... so nice it actually is audio too. EDIT: Does not work on mine, 2010 but I guess before September.
I always refer back to your video. It’s great. Problem is with all the iPhone updates it’s more and more not compatible. Am I the only one who constantly looses the wireless connection and has increasing difficulty reconnecting? My information about updates came from a BMW service representative.
Question: Are you saying that the music/songs from your Iphone can be downloaded to the hard drive? Or, is it just streaming? I know we can burn a CD on our computers and then "load" that CD as a playlist to the hard drive...so I guess I'm not sure if that is what you are doing in this video. Thanks and nice work!
I am unhappy with the behaviour of BMW. I do own a 2014 X1 M where I cannot connect Bluetooth Audio even after ALL Updates. BMW is saving money on the wrong place. Why do people whioch buy a 13k Hyundai get this feature and people buying a 52k BMW do not?!?
+Michael Kohlfürst You must be doing something wrong. Is your car equipped with BT module in the first place? My wife's 2011 X1 BT audio works like a charm!
+JJ S YES, I can do phone calls over Bluetooth. It might be, that the location Austria or that I am using a Samsung S5 might be the problem. I do have a X1 2014 M with the big navi.
+Michael Kohlfürst it has nothing to do with your location or phone. Press "CD" on your iDrive, then choose "auxiliary" or something like that and then you will see your phone - click on it. Just make sure prior to this that you have enabled BT audio in the iDrive. Let me know how it goes.
I do this all the time in my Crossfire with my Kenwood unit. It is great for bonfires and outdoor parties. You can remain with your buddies and brews while controling the song selection, volume, and etc... all from a distance of about 20 feet.
This video was very helpful with connecting the streaming portion of the Bluetooth operation but the moment I connect the USB cord for charging the phone, the bluetooth music streaming abilities revert back to "not connected" and I have to start all over again. Looks like I must order that special adapter cord from BMW. Damn this iDrive!!
@e60MPower No, not directly. The 09/2009 production cars and up were given this ability. I think there is an aftermarket module out there that will allow you to stream Bluetooth. I have no personal experience with that though so I can't give you too much information on that.
@xdragosx No, I opted to stick with the "standard" system but it still sound sick. I've heard the upgraded one and it sounds very clean but it wasn't worth justifying the extra cost to have it.
@Kaipeternicolas I know no negativity was meant :). I agree with you it's awesome to keep finding new things with these cars. In some ways I prefer older cars because personally I can do without the electronics at some level. It's like a giant iPod lol. I've only seen one R8 V10 in CT and it was at a shop having a passport installed. Alot of my friends who have been out to SoCal tell me that I would fit in really well out there with the Euro scene. However, it's nice to be the lone wolf in CT.
@archienc45 Thank you. I don't know why the menu wouldn't come up. It shouldn't matter if the car has a satellite signal or not. Anyways, it's good to know that people are getting use from this video and even dealers are using it to set up customers cars.
@foleygac Yeah, I thought you would already know that. I am having trouble bringing up the menu on my car at 1:28 in your video. I've only tried it in the garage and may need to bring the car outside in order for the NAV system to load. Thanks for your video. I played it for the BMW dealer here in the Mpls. area and he saved it on his own computer. Nice job!
I don't think so. I'm assuming your 545i is an E60. They iDrive system has since been updated and it was late 2010/early 2011 models that received this feature.
Thanks - I didn't know about selecting the "options" on the idrive to complete the process. Only negative is still not being able to view music library on car's display ( 335d) when using the bluetooth for music.
Brand new BMW 320d with iDrive, phone connected with Bluetooth (no problem to call or recieve callings), but I can't find any "Bluetooth" option in the CD/Multimedia menu :/
I have a 2010 535i. Couldn't do it. Don't have all of the options. But when I put my Galaxy Note Edge in car mode and connected to the USB port, I got hands free streaming music with transfered directory, files and folders onto the Idrive display. Haven't figured out how to access my SD card yet, so I just put all of my music into a folder on my Samsung internal storage.
Thanks for making this video 12 years ago. It gave me relief on 2023! Cheers
11 years later and this is video is still helpful. Thanks so much for posting!
Man was listening to Gambino 3 years before he got huge
Facts lmao
Heaps of people listened to him back then, only the normies hopped on later.

Thanks man. I could not for the life of me figure out how to enable the bluetooth audio in my ny F30. Now it works like a charm. Thanks from Norway.
I like how you looked around to make sure no one was looking before you turned up the music
