The Rockpalast concert recorded on April 11, 2008, is giving a late testimony to Blue Cheer’s unbroken stage power: From the soulful blues cover of Mose Allison’s “Parchment Farm” of their debut album and the Albert King classic “The Hunter” of their second album “Outsideinside”, the clanking and piercing current material of “What Doesn’t Kill You…” (“I’m Gonna Get To You”, “Rollin’ Dem Bones”) culminating in - of course - “Summertime Blues”, Blue Cheer shine as a thundering triumvirate.
A historic recording because only one and a half year later Dickie Peterson died of cancer on October 12th, 2009 in his adopted home Germany at the age of 63, thus putting Blue Cheer to an end. Their deafening testimony however, will reverberate for a long time.

Blue Cheer : The Original Heavy Metal Psych Rock Band of 1968!
When people talk about heavy rock they definitely should be talking about these cats! Heavy rock at it finest! Definitely underrated band..
I can't even believe the amount of people who never heard of these guys. Not to mention the people who have never heard Rumble by Link Wray. Practically the beginning of distorted rock and the beginning of the psychedelic/prog rock phase
taurusthefool
Today’s kids will never know what Rock was. Not only from Blue Cheer Little Richard, Jerry Lewis ect!
@@johnharris6676 as someone who is 18 and in love with early hard rock i promise ill keep these guys and their music alive even when yall die
Yeaa
Lovr
The originators of head banging metal. I booked them at the Whiskey in both February and March of 1969 along with The Seeds. They were never underrated, they were the kings from 1966 to 1969.
14 days after Paul Whaley s birthday my brother passed away
I guess there ain't no cure for the 2019 Summer Times Blues
RIP PAUL
Ricky, I am sorry about your brother.
The rest of these comments are plastic 😂. Bless you man.
They still had it after all those years ✌
Dickie was probably pretty sick with the cancer that killed him the next year when this show occurred. But he was still rockin' right up until the end. RIP (and RIP Paul too who just passed away this year).
Saw them in concert 1968 in Phoenix with Iron Butterfly and Sweet-water and three other groups. They were awsome.
I have had every Blue Cheer album that I could find , and CDs too. Want to read what they were about , find and buy the album Louder Than God and read the notes on the back of the cover . One band I wish I had seen live . RIP Dickie
saw them back in 1968 in a tiny bar and they blew out the windows in less than 10 minutes.. they were so loud that one had to be outside to take it all in
Saw them in the late 60’s and played with the drummer at a few studio sessions in the late 90’s
YEAH, BLUE CHEER, I WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL WHEN ''SUMMERTIMES WAS A HIT '''!!
Hooray! No lip syncing! Thank you Blue Cheer!
Cos it was live in German TV
Let's get our terms right - this was called "hard rock" - which flourished briefly till cartoonish "heavy metal" displaced it
Hard to categorize uniquity.
use to call it acid rock back them.
Hard rock, heavy metal, acid, stoner... Titles change but at the end of the day it's all just rock 'n' roll
They were heavy metal before heavy metal!
Wherever you are Dickie/….keep blowing out their eardrums...rock on.
first heavy metel tune ladies and gentlemen
Could have been heavy metal at its earliest. Which really sprung up from Jimi Hendrix
I worked with a guy who was a regular at Fillmore west. He saw everyone in his lifetime. He said the 2 greatest bands he ever saw was Zeppelin and Blue Cheer at Fillmore West.
The jury is still out but I say 1st true Heavy Metal band The Yardbirds, Cream, Hendrix and Iron Butterfly are up there with Fijjid Pink, MC5 and Iron Butterfly...
Steppenwolf. Born to be Wild.
I like smoke and lightning. Heavy Metal Thunder! Racing with the Wind and the feeling that I’m under! That was the first mention of the words Heavy Metal in a Rock song. And it was 1968.
We should not forget The Gun, Love Sculpture and Grand Funk Railroad.
I would Steppinwolf is there too.
What a great time to have grown up in …
I blame the internet for the death of music heroes
Dicky Peterson: one of my hero's in my youth.
He was a baller
Incredible,they don't ask nothing to any other band.just awesome.5
Next best thing to a living Hendrix or a Cream reunion
Steppinwolf as well.
Keep on going strong. The guys that helped to pave the way for Metal. I still listen to this great stuff.
Not sure why this was their most popular song. Especially being a cover. Their song Peace of Mind is easily the greatest song in their rep.
Check out "sun cycle" or "just a little bit" if you havent already, those are good ones.
Here it is 2023 and my ears are still ringing! They put the "sic" in music!!!!!! All in good fun. Am I still alive?
The heavy metal's father!
jak to miło posłuchać ''dziadków '' przez '' dziadka ''
Epic!!! The song that wouldn't end!!!
god i use to play this on drums....love it ...
Drummer missing the energy of Paul Whaley.
AMEN... when the vid started, I though "man, the drummer sure aint what he used to be."
una joya. el solo de bateria es unico
First American born metal band, only around the same time frame as Ozzy and Zeppelin
Love them all forever!! What can you say about a band named themselves after the buzz they used while being so loud they had to record in airplane hangars!?!! Immortals Rock on in Nirvana Forever!!!
Un grupazo Blue Cheer
OLD SCHOOL....no in-ear monitors for these guys....turn everything up to 11 and let 'er rip.....
These guys are original, good stuff. But lets pump the brakes a little, you're forgetting about Dave Davies and the KINKS!. They were 4 years earlier
VERY GOOD HEAVY STIL GOOD 1968..........................
Hard rock 🖤 🤘
..los Papás de Black Sabbath y mucho otros..si Señor !
Барабаны вообще никуда:(((( послушайте раннюю версию
Loudest concert I ever attended; way back in '70. my ears were ringing for 12 hours after.
How these guys aren't deaf, I don't know.
I saw them in the 70s also and I have to say, they are one of the all time best 3man band I've seen.
My friend saw them at Fillmore West in early days and he said it was the loudest band he ever heard. He said he couldn't hear for days
WHAT???@@amorodioamor4388
I heard The Guitar Strangled Banner in the ending! LOL
It would have been great if they played an Ozzfest with the original Black Sabbath on the same bill.
Yes and also the progenitors of stoner rock and doom metal, along with Sabbath
Still awesome rock that the music today
L E G E N D S.
Now it's a lots different with all the technology that exists today but the magic of this rock and roll band 45 years ago it's incredible cheers brothers.

I've heard this song before, but never heard of this band before, can you believe it?
Look for the live version of blue cheer on beat club ..they rocked it ..they are knackered here still good but check em out in 1968
The younger cats here also did a great job helping to keep Blue Cheer's music going till the bitter end !!!###
Bloody shit hot
A metal song from 1968
Years before black sabbath
This guys invented metal
A while back my 25yr old daughter asked me who invented metal. I immediately cranked up Summertime Blues and told her this is a band called Blue Cheer. Her mouth dropped open and she said "but it's in black and white". I never felt so fucking old in my life. LOL
@@thesandman4438
They had to film that in black and white, if they'd have done it in color people's brains would have exploded, it was just too much in 1968.
Not years before Sabbath, Sabbath already existed in 1968, their first album was released in 1969. Jimi Hendrix invented heavy metal - a journalist described his music as 'heavy metal falling from the sky'.
Dont forget about iron butterly and steppenwolf they contributed , well iron butterfy did
Very beautiful.
the drums are tuned wide open...awesome
The HEAVY ROCK Gods
The first heavy metal band??
vocals are way to loud in the mix.
The could have been the earliest onset of grunge
Metal and Hard Rock not grunge
cares?
Best cover ever 👍
Rockpalast!
Always great.
Fuzz
Right on 8 track music
One of the pioneer of heavy rock
01:38 that's not chugging
The only band Bill Graham pulled the plug on.
deadlockmun Oh really? Never knew that
WOW!!!!!
The Fuzz Face LIVES!!
Boss tone!
@@xyzzy117 Jordan Bosstone? Sweet!!
My God!!!
If Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Nirvana were the grandchildren..... this song would be like grandpa pulling a coin out of their ears, and them being mystified...
W
Well done gents! This -- THIS -- is how Hard Rock sounds done right. HARD Rock rocks HARD! That's it. The end.
The first meyal band. I gorget thr year im 72, but they were summer fave band. I pick one or two been doing this for years.
,excelente versión de mis tiempo.
Not the same as the rhythmic drums from the original 1968 recording.
fucking MASTERS OF HEAVY ROCK GODS
Heavy is an understatement! That version of that song punches ya right in the guts.
AWESOME
Wish I could have seen them play live I've always really loved this song scince I was like 3 years old I'm 51 now n still love this song ! Blue Cheer !!!!
music your neighbours are definitely going to hear ❤
Is that the 3 original dudes?
2 out of 3. Guitarist is not.
Blue Cheer were the Nirvana of the hippie era, if there ever was one.
This sounds so much heavier than their 68 version.
No energy in this performance this is sad
Said to be one of the loudest acts back in the day.
Man I woulda loved to be in the house for this one
Want another line? No thanks we are on next...
They kicked as much a$$ as anyone.
The best version of this song. The Who did it justice, but these guys gave it the girth !!!! Raw !!!
Eddie Cochran did it best!
Fuck yeah!!!
old rockers kick the ass
Still sounds great!
The first heavy metal band..1968 baby.. San Francisco
And their long hair back then.
Blue Cheer came to David’s in Manchester, CT. To check us out. They were very complimentary. Loved my drum set.
That's rerrible
and you're tediculous.
Blue Cheer, my favorite band back in the 60s. They were said to be "Louder than God" and their music "turned the air into cottage cheese". These guys wee the original Heavy Metal group. RIP Dickie, Paul
Terrible in ‘68; terrible-er now. Give it up guys.
You're 12 years too late, man.
Dickie Peterson died in 2009.
Next time, do your damned homework!
🤡
This makes Soy Boys cry.
