In 1968, roadied for Blue Cheer for two weeks in the Chicago area. Every night I would encourage Paul to do a solo. His shyness kept him from feeling confident enough-only once did he do that for me. And now, to hear him on this gig. W O W ! ! 68summerofloveroadie
Some false ones tried to say they started heavy metal in 1968 first and it was actually Blue Cheer that came out First in start of 1968 before they did.
All right I am a boy from Saskatchewan Canada and I was down in California the 70s in Sacramento and my cousin told me there was a band that he said the loudest in the world so they went to the stadium or should I say a big Hall to see the band it was called the blue cheer so we went down and the band had the whole stage completely filled with amplifies from top to bottom and when they played the cement floor moved 2 to 3 inches yes they were the loudest band ......BLUE CHEER YES TOTALLY AWESOME I will never forget that experience
You saw BLUE CHEER live in 1966 ??!! Where ... in San Fran ?? The classic power trio lineup or when they still had the larger band lineup before they paired it down to acid rock / heavy psych / proto metal trio ... What songs did they play ????!!!
The originators of Heavy Metal. I was fortunatne to see them several times. Loved that band. Changed my musical direction along with Jimi and Ten Years After. I saw them first in Hawaii and they had the FIRST Wall of Sound with a row of Marshall stacks. Then Jimi with his and that did it. I wanted to play loud. Took awhile but I got my Bass Marshalls very rare. 18 inch reverse thow Marshalls. Only a hand full made. I ran Ampeg 100 watt tube amps for each stack. WHEN I finally got to meet Dickie I told him about his influence and we drank up at the Coconut Teaszer when they play there. I really wished Leigh had stuck with them and gotten heavier. And more famous. BLUE CHEER THE MEN WHO MADE HEAVY METAL. LONG LIVE BLUE CHEER.
The godfathers of heavy metal. The original guitarist, Leigh Stephens and my dad were best friends in the late 60s, Leigh would drive up from San Francisco in his new Corvette to visit my dad in Portland and they would go out on the town for a night of fun. One time when they came home my dad told me that Leigh was now my godfather. So the godfather of heavy metal is my actual godfather. :)
When your voice still works out awesome at that age, you know youre gifted. And that Strato... I dont really care, if its slow or old, but fuck me, it was a JAM!
Thks a million BSF... eons ago I used to listen to their first single ever published here in Spain: Summertime blues (A) and Out of focus (B side). I literally was shocked. I still am. Cheers.
Bill Graham put in a new 35000 watt sound system at the Fillmore East so bands wouldnt çlog. Up ßecond ave with semi trucks. These duds wrecked it. They played louder than Jimi
I saw them in the 1080s at at the Masonic bar on I was in a band called bad habit at the time as a drummer I'm now living in AZ I was a bike messger for U S messager I will always remember those days and Blue Cheer
I find this truly excellent. Only few have been influenced, and move forward with their own vision. Rush, and Masters of Reality. Most other 'stoner' rock bands High on Fire, Kyuss etal.) truly disappoint me
Believe it or not. But back in the 1960s American bandstand didn't play bands like Jimi Hendrix are blue cheer on their show so blue cheer demanded to be put on American bandstand and they got their wish and if you get to watch the one where the MC is talking about the band he's so nice I'm sure it wasent hem that didn't want to hard Rock band on American bandstand must have been the network.💕🔜🤠😎☠️💯💀👀👍🙋👼🌎🌌🐦 all my love and Respect to you all. .
Saw 'em free in '67 in SF on the Panhandle in Golden Gate Park Seamans Hall? Mariners Hall?? dunno. Clowes Hall Indpls 70ish Fenders so loud that when the roadie went in front of them his hair blew out!! No shit!!!~

Their guitarist Leigh Stephens from 67-68 was my dad's best friend when I was a little kid. He used to crash at our house after he and dad went out partying. Viet Nam and the draft and that bullshit screwed up his time in the band

I'm getting a Clem Clemson-era Humble Pie vibe here, in the riffs and especially in the guitar tones and soloing!
RIP Paul and Dickey. Thanks for all the great sounds - you defined "heavy metal" before anyone called it that.
Who cares about your revelation regards to father of this or before their time that, drop the crap
Man, what a kickass lead guitar. Just perfect.
