The time had come to leave Uganda so myself and @baldandbankrupt crossed the land border into a new country, Rwanda! Now Rwanda has been in the headlines lately so we decided to come check out this mysterious country. With a reputation for being the most developed and cleanest in Africa we had high hopes for this country.
However we got into a tricky situation straight away down at the market where we nearly caused a riot! Welcome to Rwanda! 🇷🇼

I am both shocked and sad at the same times because I don't know where Rwandans act like that infront of of foreigners. These fooĺs must understand that Rwanda invests a lot of money to attract tourists to come and invest in Rwanda. I am so very sad and disappointed. These fools should be hold accountable for this madness shape . They should have let Ben go and people there could have helped them solving this problem. On behalf of Rwanda. I apologise. No Rwandan should be act like that and no Rwandan is a beggar. We are not! I can promise you that we are a hard working community.

Worst sale tactic ever. The guy demanding the bracelet and the yellow shirt guy was both in on it I saw the smirk on the guy taking the bracelet. All that to try to sell you more than one bracelet. Good on you for standing your ground. They start an "argument" with each other and hope that you will buy from both to solve it.

@@BackpackerBen Yeah im not sure what happened but I noticed the guy with the vest had the same color bracelet as you and then suddenly he didn't have it on his wrist. Im wondering if the yellow shirt guy sold you his that was on his wrist and then didn't have another for him. Which is why he said "this one is for me." I don't know if you paid again but if he just let you take another with just paying for 1, it could have been a simple misunderstanding in a chaotic situation or it was a plot. Either way you handled that perfectly. Great video ben as always

I traveled throughout Egypt and had a wonderful time. I wasn't scammed, pickpocketed, or hassled by anyone. People selling things or offering services are just trying to make a living and feed their families. Respect goes both ways.

Don't start blaming a foreign tourist for the primitive behavior of some of our lower-class people.
It's actually good that these videos are being shared. It allows our government to see the situation and take steps to keep things in check and clean up these unnecessary markets

That whole "argument" among them looked entirely staged. It seemed, at least to me, like its a ruse they use to cause mayhem and confusion and to intimidate tourists. Its looks to be a tourist spot, otherwise who else are they selling all that shite to. The prices were a joke to start with, and then all the bullshit drama that instantly calmed down once you left him with the bracelet and they realised they were getting nothing more from you. I saw the clown in the comments saying you shouldnt show this.....absolute bellend if ever I saw one. This is EXACTLY what you should show, as a warning to EVERYONE not to go near that shithole ever again. Let them suffer due to their behaviour. Bald skedaddled sharpish! Great content though, certainly more interesting than Shetland, though I have to say, I was sweating watching this as the anxiety levels were high.

oh that's the scam - the 1 guy sells him a bracelet for 5000 (however much that's worth; probably not much) - then another guy comes around after the sale, & argues/gets into a fight with that guy, saying "you didn't have authority to sell him that, it's not yours to sell, etc, etc,"...then the 1st guy comes back & says because of this conflict you have to pay more...that's how they squeeze you #classicmarketplacescam

It's nice to see Rwandans who obviously care a lot about their reputation commenting to reassure outsiders that Rwanda is better than this. Their request that the good side also be shown is fair, and it would be a respectful thing to do. Of course, you can only document what your time and personal experiences allow you to. All of us who view your videos (first one for me), appreciate the insight and experience that you allow us to vicariously have, but you really are rolling the dice. Once you pull out money in any place where people are desperately poor, you are risking the chance that someone will be desperate enough to injure you or even take your life to seize what they might see as a chance at survival. Just blindly trusting people and following them around with your camera or cell phone to God knows where might be exciting until suddenly it really isn't, and there you are stuck in a totally blind and helpless situation. I wonder how many intended UA-cam videos never get posted because the intended poster got mugged, killed or otherwise had his stuff stolen. This isn't a reflection on Rwanda, just about street smarts.

Actually, what happened is the guy in the yellow vest that you had a conversation with before when he went to bring those bracelets the other one in black and white t-shirts had put some of his bracelets in his basket and finally Ben chose the bracelet of the guy in a black t-shirt and he took the money and didn't want to share it with the one in yellow. And the one in yellow was asking the other one why he put his bracelets in his basket without his consent. I hope it brings a clear view of the situation.
