    Hey Everyone! There's been quite a few questions regarding the wood stove I have in my Big Tent. This is the Three Dog DX Model from Four Dog Stoves. This is made in the USA and I can attest to how durable and well made these stoves are. The company is based out of Minnesota and has been around for a number of years. They sell all sorts of hot tent camping equipment that can be used in conjunction with the stove so be sure to check out their website at the links provided. Thanks! ~ Brian

    I have a Three Dog with the shelf and water jacket. Had it for 8 or 9 years? Great stove. Heavy duty. Very well made. And it works! Packs up into a nice compact package. I use mine in a 16x16 Army frame tent.

    I’ve been using a four dog stove in my 12x14 canvas tent for almost 20 years without any problems and love cooking on it too.

    One thing folks overlook in the cold is hydration. Especially at higher altitudes. The higher you go the more water is lost in breathing. Dehydration can bring on altitude sickness. My brother got it in Colorado after we quickly drove to Monument lake from New Mexico.

    Have been camping many times, but always kept the fire on the other side of the tent fly. Now I'm wondering why? Thanks for showing what works for you!

    I'm gonna put in a secondary air 1/2 inch stainless steel pipe with a 90 degree elbow to the back of this stove - I have the Two Dog or Little Dog. These are discontinued now. I think I got the last one since it had to be specially made for me and the website said "no longer sold." Now it's just taken down from the website. I'm gonna add ceramic fiber on top of the baffle also. I got the Ecofan and also heat exchanger strips for the stove pipe. thanks

    My Colorado cylinder stove has a water tank that hangs on one side. Acts like a radiator to store the heat energy if the fire goes out. Pretty handy tools to have.

    What if you put the pizza pan up on four rocks? So it's elevated. You just need to find the perfect height.

    Hey there Brian. Good show again today. I have been looking at small stoves for a cabin. I have my eye on a small acreage around Alamosa,Colorado. I am considering a 12'x24' cabin. That stove sounds like it should work in a small cabin. I don't think I would be out there in the winter, but I do like it out there in November. That's why I am looking at a utility trailer as well. It would be a spare bedroom for guests. Gotta go dude, take care and be safe. Vaughn

      @campingalan 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Vaughn...best of luck in your land hunt! I know you say you won't come to Alamosa in the winter. But, to keep your options open, I'd recommend getting the next larger stove over what ever is recommended for the size of cabin you are looking in to. Alamosa is one of the colder spots in the state in the winter. For $30-$50 more, you'd be set and have a better margin for your heating needs.

      @@campingalan Thanks Alan. Right now I'm going to continue to watch the market. I may have to get a larger stove. I may opt for a small cabin stove. I am at the age where camping is not as glamorous as it was when I was younger. Take care. Vaughn

    Do you support the stove pipe with anything outside of the tent? I've seen some people attach guy lines of some sort, but not always. I'm curious when those should be used, and/or how sturdy the stove pipe is on its own.

    • @OffGridBackcountryAdventures
      @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  4 роки тому +4

      Hey Jonathan, this stovepipe doesn't need the extra support since the stove jack and stove connector (where the stovepipe fits into the stove box) help to keep it in place. I've seen other videos where people will use wood forks or something else to support their stovepipe. In those videos I've noticed the stovepipe tends to be at an angle so I'm thinking the reason for supporting the weight is to make sure the stovepipe doesn't fold under the weight after it gets really hot. I'm just guessing but that would make sense to me! Hope your Sunday is going good! ~ Brian

    Four Dog is great but like you say titanium is pricey

    • @OffGridBackcountryAdventures
      @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  4 роки тому +4

      Yeah, I prefer to just go with the steel fire boxes. I like the additional weight of this compared to a titanium stove...helps to keep it grounded when the winds are high and the stovepipe is whipping around with the tent. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, Rory!

      @@RoryVanucchi So I am planning on bicycle winter camping. I just ordered a folding stainless steel stove - at half the price of the titanium stoves that fold. I know Don says that the folding stoves are not durable since they collapse and warp easily. This stove though is not a box - it is a curved design. There is not even a review of the stove yet on youtube - and no demonstration of it in use. haha. So I am very curious - but it does come in a bag much like a lap top bag. So also the stove pipe is rolled up. AGain I know Don says he does not want to deal with rolled up stove pipe - but if I am going to be biking then I just could not handle all the extra weight and size of stove pipe and stove, etc. facebook.com/3FULGEAR/videos/outdoor-ul-card-folding-wood-stove-with-chimney-for-3fulgear-buluo-5p-pyramid-te/347950723040394/ Here is the designer setting up the stove. We'll see what happens - I'll put some chicken wire in the bottom for ashes and air flow and prevent burn out of the stainless steel.

So ... obviously it's not as durable as a Four Dog stove - nor will be nearly as hot in terms of holding heat, etc. So I got the Antarctica Wiggy's sleeping bag. So with a good enough sleeping pad - and the bag is rated to 60 below Fahrenheit. But I think that assumes you have lots of thermals on as well. haha. Maybe I should have ordered it from their website though 3fulgear.com/index.php/product/304-stainless-steel-tribe-wood-stove/ - says they will ship it within a week. So we'll see

    • @OffGridBackcountryAdventures
      @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I would imagine they would do just fine as a stove inside of a house with the stovepipe through the fireplace. I can attest to the durability of these Four Dog Stoves, mine is on year 5 of use and it just keeps truckin' along. I love it.

      @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  4 роки тому

      Hey ZZ Katz, I believe it's included with the purchase. When I got mine 4 years ago, everything came with it. The only option I paid extra for was the side shelf which I think was around $20. I use the shelf all the time, I'd suggest getting it if you plan to do any cooking over your stove. Let me know if you have any other questions ~ Brian

      I got the smaller two dog for $255 but it did not include the pipe. So I don't think so. This stove is expertly designed - it is super solid and will last a life time. The baffle in the stove doubles the heat output - you didn't mention the baffle? haha. You see blue flames with this stove - so you know it's getting secondary burn of the carbon monoxide gas.
