I am absolutely IN LOVE with the Broken Earth Trilogy (and honestly all of N.K. Jemisin’s works). I’m so happy to see that you finally read them! And your facial expressions while reading were👌🏽😂
The Broken Earth trilogy helped me fall in love with reading again!! It's probably one of my favorite series of all time. My favorite of the 3 is definitely Obelisk Gate (by a small margin) because just..... *SPOILERS* the reveal of who is speaking in 2nd person, who's writing this TO Essun just KILLED me, I mean..... I think my review of that book was just "'I love her, of course'.... That's all I have to say" 😂😂😂 (this is the same reason I loved Harrow the Ninth, the reveal of who is speaking in 2nd person, if done well, is just always spectacular)
OKAY! BUT LIKE- THE TIMING OF THIS- I have been getting more into fantasy lately and I was waiting for you to do more fantasy series reading vlogs! (patiently waiting for a discworld or mistborn reading vlog hehe) Also- classy Joel in the BOTM clip- okay, I didn't need my heart anyway- (edit: not u reading my mind at the end and mentioning mistborn, we love that)
Omg, the 'I knew it' moment for 5th Season!!! Me too!!!! But you're just so thrilled when you turn out to be right, because it is SO GOOD! "This is the way the world ends for the last time!" - I got shivers when you stated that, because I've just finished the trilogy and haven't circled back around to how meaningful that first line is in the first book - incredible!!! ✨
love hearing you talk about this trilogy. the message of wanting the world to be better even with all the harm humans have experienced on Earth and the harm humanity has caused is a balance that is special and stays with me. n.k did such brilliance here, i saw her speak a few years ago and it brought me all the joy. this reminds me to delve into her other works because i haven't yet!
No! Not the third book slander lol I found that new plot thread so tragic but also satisfying. It displayed the twisted cycle of seasons of exploitation and supremacy. I can see how it feels like a whole other book and how that can be jarring. BUT! I saw that story as a parallel to the climax. It made the end of the story really land for me. Please 🙏🏾 give us a book 3 spoiler review, but without the slander! Lol
I read The Broken Earth Trilogy and was so excited to see your review on the books! My favorite by far was The Fifth Season (I gave the first book 5 stars, second book 4 stars, and the third book 4.5 stars). The Fifth Season was just a near perfect book - from the characters, to the different POV styles, to the world-building, the high stakes, the magic system, the parallels to our systematic oppression, and the emotional toll...omg this book pulled at my heart strings so many times. I will say, I did enjoy the second and third book a little bit less for the same reasons you mentioned. The pacing was a lot slower, and I felt like the best emotional moments all happened in the first book. Also, the real highlight from the first book is the plot twist about the POVs, so once that has been revealed, it would be hard for N.K Jemisin to top that. I recently finished the Mistborn Trilogy Era 1, so I hope you enjoy those as well! It is a wild ride.
STOP bc this came at the PERFECT time. I was literally debating buying this trilogy the other day, and now I'm convinced! (Plus B&N sells the trilogy all bound together, which is a niche thing I LOVE that is so rarely done now. Made my night with this :))
N k Jemisins writing takes my breath away. Her masterclass is really good. Emergency skin really gets you thinking and the city we became was amazing too. Your reactions are hilarious 🤣
I looove to listen to your videos. First of all, it gives me great books to read and you help me articulate and diversify my English. A lot of vocabulary ! 🥰🌷
i read the broken earth trilogy & legit could not pick up any fantasy/science fiction books after without being a complete utter snob! she rly raised the standards of what a fantasy book CAN BE and so ive been avoiding SFF. (that's a lie i completely went out and buy Octavie E Butler's published body of work bc i cannot trust anyone else to fill that void) edit to add: the thing that pisses me off about n k jemisin's broken earth trilogy is that it literally is so good & idk why it hasnt been reprinted as many times as other series cuz i would DROP ALL MY MONEY to get an edition that i can display proudly. my current edition is pretty much filled with all my thoughts!! anyways same thing as i experienced with Octavia's stuff. not sure publisher's fault or maybe just the authors not ok with reprints?
I just checked, and I don't see a Mistborn Trilogy video yet, but I would love that! Sanderson is one of my top 3 authors and I think you'd love his characters in this series and the Stormlight Archive.- if there is one and I missed it, I apologise and please link it!!
The city we became is PHENOMENAL. She is a genius with her concepts and plot execution. Easily a 5 star read for me, can’t wait to read #2 and the rest of her work. She’s a goddess ❤
Love this video! Had to stop watching after book one (which I read sometime last year) so that I can go read book two and catch up! Can't wait to hear the rest of your thoughts on this series. NK is easily one of my fave writers!
Hello Dear You, i don't know what it is with your videos. But watching you always make me so happy 😊 i really really like your editing skills and don't even start with your amazing energy 😍⚡😂 thank you for sharing this video, I'm in the middle of book 1 and i have to admit I've struggled hard, i thought that it came because English is not my 1st language, so i bought the book in Dutch.... The first 80 pages were again a struggle, but now.... Goooood god I'm totally in, i shoved the book a little bit in a corner this weekend but, after seeing thia video i just wanna finish it and join the bookclub discussion. Again thank you, for making wonderful videos and being your great self.
this is such a kind and sweet comment, thank you so much!!! i’m so glad you enjoying the book as well and i can’t wait for you to join in the discussion!!
my partner recently bought me the entire series and I've been so excited to read it! I don't know when I'll get to them but it will definitely be this year :)
When all books get awarded in a series, how can you not join the fandom. I still want you to tackle LA Banks Vampire huntress series 12 is a lot, but it's just so iconic.
If I remember correctly, NK Jemison has said that the Broken Earth Trilogy takes place on a different planet, not our Earth. So it happening before or after our civilization would not be relevant. Forgive me if I’m remembering completely wrong, I just think I remember her tweeting something about this before.
i did, but the only good library was my high school one - there were definitely a few good books there, but they didn’t always have the ones i wanted to read
I’m currently 50% into Fifth Season and I can already feel it’s gonna be a 5 star read for me. Syenite’s chapters are definitely my favorites as well
YES! Syenite just has such a compelling narrative, I stan

I’m so excited to explore more of her works now and ahahah i loved editing my reactions and remembering how i felt whilst reading it 😂
I'm reading it now, I just finished The Obelisk Gate, and I'm in love with it
@@idek7438 YAY!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽

You're reactions were so satisfying to watch lol. The "I KNEW IT!" was so relatable lol
it would be amazing to see a video essay (w/ spoilers) of you analysing this trilogy!!
OKAY! BUT LIKE- THE TIMING OF THIS-

skdkskkdc thank you!!! i’m so excited to get into mistborn next, it’s definitely been a long long time coming!

I finished The Fifth Season last night and I’m in love with N.K. Jamison. I definitely will be finishing the series ❤️🔥
I’m going to add this to my “Watch Later” list. My book club and I read The Fifth Season and a couple of us will continue the trilogy outside of club.

Oooo the Fifth Season has been on my bookshelf side eyeing me for timeee, if this isn't a sign to pick it up, I don't know what is
THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO READ IT!

Obsessed with this series, and loved this vlog! Wish more people were talking about this series ❤
Genuinely my favorite trilogy of all time, I’ve reread it like every year since i first read it😭
My fav. It changed my relationship with death. Really powerfull books.
I looove to listen to your videos. First of all, it gives me great books to read and you help me articulate and diversify my English. A lot of vocabulary ! 🥰🌷
Ah, that's so kind of you to say!! Thank you so much 🥺
You're making me want to read these again. These are the first books in years that have felt genuinely different. She's a genius 👏🏾

I just put these on hold at my library! They come in in like 2 weeks.

I'm reading Stone Sky right now! One of the best stories of all time, imo.
Ooh a bold statement - but one I agree with!
I still need to read this trilogy 😅 I’ve been putting it off for far too long now
skdkskdkc it is time!
Omg ive just started reading this series right now, thank you for reading my mind
I went ahead and checked out the boxset right after watching your reaction
my partner recently bought me the entire series and I've been so excited to read it! I don't know when I'll get to them but it will definitely be this year :)
ooh i've never read these so excited to see what you think! ✨✨
eeee i would recommend!
I would be so interested in what you think of the Murderbot Diaries.
That first line of Kaikeyi 😂 I definitely want to read it now
Amazing 🥰👍🏻
I love your reactions
your face journeys are the best haha

literally reading these eight now. They're soooooo fucking gooood!!!
YES!

I want to read that series, but I have too much books to read…😔
Did they not have public libraries where you live?
i did, but the only good library was my high school one - there were definitely a few good books there, but they didn’t always have the ones i wanted to read
I have a reccommendation
The gone series by Michael Grant
It's amazing
Hope u give it a try s
The ending of the first book had me shook when we find out she’s all three women.
