    great fly. I wonder how that would do on a tube. I am going to try it and see. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean

      Don't see why not. It is a steelhead pattern after all.

      It does but the proportions are difficult on a tube with no eye and bend to measure between. I have learned to finish the back off but leave plenty at the head. Just in case. Thanks again. Sean

    Thank you for showing newer fly tyres that a commercial custom tyre saves the bottom portion of marabou for future flies. I cringe every time I see some fly shop tyres strip the fluff off and toss it in the garbage, they are obviously not buying their own materials.

    Nicely done. I Like the detail. So, If I dont have Pheasant rump, Wouldn't Guinea fowl work for the Vortex. Also What color combos? Orange body Olive Wings etc?
    Thanks, Doug

      This fly is more about the style rather than the colour scheme, so use whatever colours would work for you locally. Stiff guinea is great for creating turbulence for softer materials behind it, so I wouldn't sweat using it.

    Fantastic tying lessons Rob. Could you make a recommendation for other color combinations for this pattern or provide a link to some variants ? I have competed a few of the beginner Marabou Spey and now would like to make a few of these for the box. Thanks again

      Peter Charles here, replying for Rob. Good colour combinations for our area also include black & chartreuse, black & purple, black & yellow, olive & orange and brown & orange.

    What can you substitute for the pheasant rump, don't have any. Will heron work?

    • @hooked4lifeca
      @hooked4lifeca  7 років тому

      You could use heron. The idea behind using pheasant rum is that heron is not always available.

      I get all kinds from Canadian Tube Fly Co, what ever color you can dream of. I have some black Pheasant rump, so will try that too. Thx for the reply!
