    Category: UV-Max
    Map: 15 (Babylon's Chimera)
    Source Port: DSDA-Doom v0.22.5
    Time: 1:27:02
    Description:
    Plutonia was just warmup for old Sunder, while old Sunder was just warmup for... more Sunder of course! Map 15 was the first new map for Sunder after Insane_Gazebo made his return after several years of absence.
    There were no non-TAS demos of this level done yet, probably because this wad isn't finished so any demo might desync in the future on new versions. While this level is quite long, it is not very difficult at any point, partially because of various cheese strategies. The route I used is all about surviving, so time could go significantly lower. So don't look forward to the final fight, you'll probably be disappointed :)
    I don't know if this will lead to a max of map 19 (or map 16), but I will at least do map 31 and 32. Though I did a second playthrough of map 19 over the last few days where I made a lot of progress on a route. I might do some other wads/levels in between and I have no idea when I'll finish the next levels. My previous runs were uploaded weekly for the most part, that definitely won't be continuing here.
    Demo is recorded with sunder v2407 (the latest version at the time of recording).
    Comments about this run:
    Forgot to activate a switch by revenants teleporters in the cyber/cacodemon fight before BFG. Think I nearly died at the end of this arena when I got hit by some unexpected revenant rockets, but they did some low damage rolls.
    After dropping down to the arch-vile/chaingunner ambush I somehow managed to take 3 arch-vile blasts, never once did I get hit by them in practice, so a bit unfortunate here. I made sure to be careful about avoiding being thrown into the lava though, don't think there's a way up, made the next fight a bit more close than it needed to be. Used too many cells also because of it, which did put in me in trouble in the imp/rev lock in room.
    Once dropping down to the next area I could have done better to avoid taking the direct cyberdemon rocket, luckily there's a soulsphere and mega armor there.
    The arena past red key door was a complete disaster at the start. This is were I expected to have the highest chance of dying, but then again I never had problems with it when I practiced. The arch-viles were hard to deal with and I got double cyberdemons in the center. Took a while before I could get the opportunity to kill the last one.
    The fight after red key fight I had all the cyberdemons die.. every time in practice I would have 4-5 of them alive so I was surprised by how slow the infighting was going. You really want to be careful running up the stairs because you can't see anything from all the corpses and a cyberdemon rocket could end it, but that's obviously no issue this time.
    I have no idea what I did at the fight at the bottom of the stairs with the double cyberdemons... this is as easy and straightforward as it gets, just keep your distance and spam BFG as you have a ton of ammo. Somehow it was a perfect combo of nonsense at the worst possible time, I deserved to die there, but I got lucky.
    I made a real mess out of the revenant/pinky fight next to the final room, had a lot of revenant projectiles on me and I wanted to get rid of them so I don't go from nearly full health to dead in an instant. But when trying to get rid of them it got out of control and I let too many revenants out and had to take it slow.
    Somehow I had lots of cells left over after the final area, I was always very low in practice, must have been good infighting.
    Skipped the exit linedef at the end and cost me a second :)

    I don't know what to say to compliment you not only for this run, but for your dedication and ultimately success in Sunder so far. When I first saw these maps through decino's livestreams, I never expected that anyone would do single segment runs of these. Zero Master, the Master of Glide!
    Not only this map is a masterpiece, as it resembles ancient cultures building structures pretty well, but Zero Master shows his skills in a legendary run.
    I guess this is a new record and you didn't have to beat Okuplok this time, since this map is relatively new and didn't exist back then.
    This has been all an endurance test, and proves by far you are definitely one of the chosen ones.
    Player of the Doom World Elite, I salute you, and I will follow you to whatever UV projects you chose to come next. But if suggestions accepted, Dark Tartarus would make my day, month and year.

    • @ZeroMaster
      @ZeroMaster  2 роки тому +32

      well it varies a lot, even though this one is nearly 90 minutes it took less time to both route and complete compared to map14 which was under 10 minutes and took quite some time with both routing and attempts. If I had set a goal of under 60 minutes it would have been very different (assuming that's even possible). So essentially however long it takes to reach a certain goal, but if the goal is to survive or the time goal is pretty easy then the answer is not long... at least so far.

    Even before enjoying this massive carnage of a level... I just am damn curious: how long it took you to plan the route, memorize and test before recording this?

    • @ZeroMaster
      @ZeroMaster  2 роки тому +5

      forgot to answer this.. anyways, I don't exactly know, but surprisingly it was significantly shorter than map14 as in this case nearly every arena has some obvious strategy.. like the pit fight near the end, bfg the arch-viles + rockets on the barons, there's just no other way to do it so that's basically it and I can move on after practicing it a couple of times.
      Then you have arenas like the one after the bfg area and all the small health vials which is more chaotic so it takes more time. I just try different stuff until something works and then I'll test it several times, say 3-5 times in a row (obviously I can skip practicing running around barons that will never hit me).
      Now one important thing I do is I come back to stuff at a later time, too often something just works in practice but never in attempts or I just forget exactly what to do, so I try to spread practice out over a few days to get more used to things or see if something else goes wrong when I haven't just before spent time on it. That way I can also identify anything that's easy to forget so it's easier to prepare for it.
      Finally I'll do at least one full test run to check ammo management and for any other surprises that I might have missed. So yeah in summary it just largely depends on the complexity of the fights, if it's running around barons with a rocket launcher you only need to practice it once, but if it's anything like the main fight in map14 then it takes forever to work out the details.

      Hey, Roman, dsda-doom in open-gl almost rarely lags. if you do encounter problems that are too severe,I recommend using the source-port Woof, which didnt even lag that hard for me when playing a level with 40k monsters out in the open at once.

    Question: wouldn't it be more efficient to initiate that last fight through the glide and then do the pit sequence or the pinky revenant fight around it?

    • @ZeroMaster
      @ZeroMaster  2 роки тому +1

      the reason I didn't do it immediately is because I need the ammo on the inside (100 rockets + 600 cells), but doing it before the rev/pinky fight could probably have been better, but I also need to put myself in line of sight of the monsters inside to get infighting going, so I'm not sure how much time it would save.. but yeah it was just easier to survive this way.

      @computergamer888 You remind me of myself years ago. I was a solitary doomer, and looking forward new exciting content, I came across new stuff (wads and mods) and heard of Elite Players, Doomers with exceptional skills far beyond the best players out there to be, like Zero Master for example, and joined doom multiplayer community just in the hope to meet those legends.
      I succeeded and met some of them, and oh boy, they are up to the Legends spoken of.

    I would really like to know how that slipping through the bars exploit(if I can call it that) works. In one of the first Sunder maps, I managed to escape the room with barons and revenants, and get on the other side of the bars, only to see couple of individual f*****g skeletons pass right through it. I'm using GZDoom with Brutal Doom mod and it's working fine so far. I respect your skill, sir.

    Genuinely curious here if anyone can answer me. Are there any other Doom players who do this sort of thing? ZeroMaster might be the only person i've seen do non TAS single segment runs of maps like this where shit probably takes 101 hours of study to remember everything and then also so much patience/precision not to make a mistake since there are probably atleast 10 different parts where something is likely to occur to most people. I've never seen someone else doing something like Sunder without TAS or saves.

      Arbyss550 has done the first 14 maps in a row(that is, a D2ALL of the 2009 version that's on DSDA), and Daerik similarly does marathon-length UV-Max movies of all sorts of hardcore megawads.

    It was amusing to see Zero Master squeeze back through the bars and watch the final army of demons infight itself to death, but it terrifies me to think of having to nail a speed trick on the first try when you're seventy minutes into the run.

    hello everyone! and hello zero master !can you tell me where to download every single vanilla doom game and as well as those series you are showing us ? i keep looking for websites but they all seem unsafe. "also i prefer to control doom with a mouse" as i've always played it with a mouse ever since i was a kid sometime around or a little after it's release. in fact i was one of the few people who actually knew you could control it with a mouse from the get go so i never went through the "keyboard vs mouse" drama lol
    i tried the modern "doom" like doom remake. yes it's good but it did not feel like doom so i could not get into it and it did not feel nostalgic to me.
