I'm impressed by how well you've done your 'home work' of our Swedish history 🇸🇪. Great reaction, btw!🤘
My homework is my favourite part because it often consists of watching Indy and the guys from Sabaton having a laugh together!
@@ToonStory-fh4gn That makes sense.😄 Sabaton History is the best and most entertaining history lesson you can get!🤘
Thank you for reacting to "Livgardet" . Best Regards from a Livgardist from Dalarna (With Military Education at Kungliga Svea Livgarde I1 1986-87)
Wow, so cool to get your reaction! Greetings from a random frenchy sitting in front of its camera and just enjoying Sabaton so much
Im from the city Kalmar, many danes are buried here.
Wow did not know that
@@ToonStory-fh4gn we have a place north of Kalmar that is called påskallavik, literally three words together
På Skalla Vik wich means On Skull Bay, there was a war here, the danes came ashore and was about to attack Kalmar from the north, but the Sweds were aldready waiting for them and skulled them when they got ashore, and thats why it was named Påskallavik.
And there is a small old village south of Kalmar Called Kristianopel, sound fancier than it is, like the former roman city "Constantinopel" the largest City of Turkey Istanbul.
Btw the village Kristianopel was built as a fort, and you can still see the walls from it, and Sweden was actually so tired of the danes taking over it all the time so they burned down the fort so that the danes wouldnt be able to use it again.
There is ton of history around here, Stockholm is so far away from denmark so most of the wars took place in the south.
Gustav Wasa tried to raise the people of Kalmar against the ruling danes but the people was so tired of war so they didnt care if the city belonged to danes of sweds so Gustav had to head north for help instead.
Cool song! My favorite fun fact about Sweden is that their royal family is descended from Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte. One of Napoleon’s Marshals.
Not the most popular guy in France, but a real badass! Thank you!
Which Sabaton songs would you like to see me react to?
Race to the sea
Karolinens bön
Great review as always!
2:40 - Both Pär and Joakim in the band are actually from Dalarna province and they have a music festival there each summer. If you know Swedish you can hear their local accent (Tommy is from one of the northern provinces and have a distinct accent as well. I am not sure where Hannes or Chris are from).
4:45 - The Battle of Lund was fought during the early reign of Charles XI (the father of Charles XII). Sweden was on the ropes and needed a strong victory. It was a close run thing but in the end the victory was gained and it propelled Sweden to end the war favorably. It was long thought that this was among the bloodiest battles in Swedish history (percentage wise) with up to 50% causalities on both sides. But resent history research has shown that this is most likely inaccurate and takes in casualty figures from a larger portion of the campaign.
That war and the Swedish armies inabilities is what led Charles XI to create the Caroleans.
You should also check out the March Across the Belts though. That is a very special campaign and a great story.
Glad you watched the Sabaton History episode for the English version. The Skirmish at Bender is a great story and it is very much a Charles XII thing to promote Axel Roos on the spot 😅
I did not know that, cool stuff (my level of Swedish does not yet allow me to distinguish the different accents)!
Watching the Sabaton History while preparing each episode is my favourite part before discovering the actual song while I'm recording!
Yes, I saw that it was a very difficult battle and that the Swedish right wing had broken the Danish line. I imagined that Livgardet had been important but I couldn't find anything about it.
Finally! :) Thank you so much for reacting to this! Funny story actually, Sabaton wanted to make this song in corporation with the Swedish military but they declined because Sabaton had "performed" in Crimea... Sigh. Swedes, so triggered.
Ahhhhh I didn't know why the Swedish army finally turned down the Sabaton song after asking them to do it
6:20 "För Sverige i tiden"(For Sweden - with the Times) is the royal motto of Sweden's current king, HM Carl XVI Gustaf (of French ancestry).
A Bernadotte :)
"I fäders spår för framtids segrar" (In (for)father's tracks for future victories) the royal motto of Gustav I Eriksson Vasa, is also pointed at.
1:30 Mon Ami, Erik Segersäll was the first king of Sweden born ~945 and died ~ 995. The kingdom of Sweden has been a monarchy for more than 1000 years.
Thank you for the clarification dude, much appreciated!
Thanks for finally reacting! From a Finn with many Finnish, Swedish and Baltic German ancestors in the Livgardet
Touched and honoured by your comment, thank you!
So much fact 👏🏻. Thank you!
My pleasure, thank you 😊
Extra! Again super reaction. I love this song!
Very glad you liked it thank you for this heartwarming comment😃
@@ToonStory-fh4gn 100% agree!! Would also be a cool tie-in to house Bernadotte, who where put in power by Napoleon and is still our royal family to this day :D - Love from Sweden btw!
A fun fact about the battle of Narva in 1700. After the victory and after too much Russian vodka, Livgardet and Dalregementet (a regiment from Sabatons home region of Dalarna) started shooting at each others. A drummer boy realised what was going on and drummed ceasefire.
😅😅 there is a similar story with the battle of Karansebes where the austrian army basically destroyed herself
You have good pronunciation of the swedish words👍and I really like that you have dived into history before you watch Sabatons music video.
Ah cool! The story Sabaton are trying to transmit is why I love this band so much, thank you!
To be fair to the Ottomans Karl's behaviour was kind of outrageous. xD
Oh, I'll have to go and find out more about the kind of scandals he's been involved in over there!
Nice video, I liked and suscribed. French history and Swedish history has alot in common! Here is a video of Livgardet being inspected by our present king Carl Gustaf Bernadotte (French surname, Napoleon was involved in this history of us having a french related king). At 4:17 into the video he greets them all and they answer him "Gud bevare Konungen" (God save the king) as they always have done for hundreds of years.

Thank you 😊 I just watched your video, and re-played 10 times the moment they answer him!
The story of Bernadotte and Napoleon is incredible, what a destiny for Karl Johan!
@@ToonStory-fh4gn Yes it's nice, I have often visited the castle to see the changing of the guards! Jean Baptiste or Karl Johan as you say, was not Napoleons best friend (more like a rival in the early years), so I guess it was easy for Napoleon to send him off to remote Sweden in the outskirts of Europe when we begged France for a new king and royal bloodline. :)
Sweden and France have never really been to war or atleast fought any battles (I think the Swedish army fled once when the French arrived at a town in Pomerania during the Napoleonic Wars) If we have been on opposing sides it has always been about which sides Russia is on or if we were forced to declare war on France by the British. Our arch enemy has always been Denmark and Russia.
Earlier during the 30 years war with the king Gustavus Adolphus and more specifically the Swedish part of the conflict, France and Sweden even fought on the same side against the Holy Roman Empire. For us France has been very influential on the Swedish Court also during Gustav the III, but more so in a cultural part and of course not to forget count Axel von Fersen and connection with Marie Antoniette.
do the eng pls
Good idea!
