I've owned almost 60 cars in my life and I currently own 11. Because I'm an idiot. It's never a good idea to own this many cars. Today, let's talk about it. We'll go over everything in my fleet of misfit vehicles, which cars I like, which ones are terrible. Which ones I'll keep, and which ones were colossal mistakes. Come join me!

Are all my decisions terrible? What was your worst car purchase? What was your best?
Worst: 1998 Ford Escort SE
Best: 1994 Cadillac Sedan Deville 4.9
My 2005 Pontiac Vibe is the best by a mile. 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Not all of them are bad, just a lot of them :-) So my worst car is a 1999 Audi A4. I bought it for $6,000, and a year and $10,000 later it still wasn't where I wanted it. The best purchase is a toss up between a 1988 Ford Taurus and a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SE. The Taurus cost less than $1000 for every 10,000 driven and was a good car all around. The Mercedes was 15 years old at the time and I paid $3,000 for it. It had the best build quality of all of my cars, and ran smooth even at 220 km/h (about 132 mph). Sadly I couldn't bring it back from Germany and had to sell it.
One of my best purchases was a 1985 Ford Escort. It started and ran every time. The worst was also a Ford. 2000 Ford Contour with the 4 cylinder. The day after I bought it, the timing belt started rattling. It was missing some idlers and they reused the old tensioner. A month later the fuel pump quit, which should have been an easy job if the pump cover fit out the hole under the back seat. I regretted not making the hole bigger when I took out the fuel tank. What a b--h it was to get back in, and it leaked after that. Against my wife’s advice to keep it, I sold it, leak and all.
1978 Cutlass Supreme. It had the wrong motor in it so every time I bought parts for it they didn't fit.
If you don’t love it, get rid of it. Life is too short to spent time being owned by a car you don’t love.
Exactly why I own 4, and love them all... a lot. I don't want any more at the moment because I am glad I can still manage my small fleet.
so you want me to get rid of my car and just walk?
I TOLD YOU the overheating could be ignition related on the Probe. Lol. The whole top of my lower coolant fill blew off from a failing coil and overheat, the plastic tank was also old. Get some Ebay headers for $120 bucks, a high flow cat and off the shelf the rest. 2" with a resonator in there somewhere, and it will sound exotic.
Keep also the Altima and wrap it with "Big Altima Energy" vinyl and keep it for a while. Love the Nova and the Scion.
LONG LIVE THE PROBE! Glad to see it back.
Glad to see the Probe is still around. I had many nightmares with those vacuum lines and chambers under the intake manifold back in the day.
I enjoyed seeing the menagerie of vehicles and getting the latest information on them. I have to admit it really warmed my heart to see that the Probe was running again because it is my favorite out of your collection. I remember when I used to see a number of them on the road and just how cool they looked. I hope the exhaust situation is resolved and that the Probe has a long and glorious life with you.
We got the following:
1955 speedster
1970 dodge swinger
1972 fiat 850
1973 dodge w250
1975 Pontiac Grandville
1985 dodge 600 turbo
1994 Mercedes S500 coupe
1997 Camry V6
2000 Mercedes c240 4matic
2003 Silverado Diesel
2013 ML350 bluetec
2016 Volvo Xc90 t8
2016 Mercedes S550
This is after selling few cars recently, trying to make room for new cars that we ordered few years ago but still waiting for delivery.
It’s not a problem, it’s a fun obsession.
Still jealous of the Probe. Awesome video as always!
Really stoked to see the Probe is going to make it. Don't change the color! My cousin had an XB iin what he called burnt penny. Loved the thing. Got run off the road into (I think) a fire hydrant - that's the story, reality might be another matter. Replaced it with another, some kind of lime green, and mourned the loss. He's the kind of guy who will wear an olive khaki shirt with epulets - paired with an ascot. But, San Francisco, so....
If I see a 2005 Nissan Altima I stay out of the way. Almost got ran off the road by one today!
Great fleet update. Looking forward to seeing the full Chaser video!
As always, I love your Nova Twin Cam. My first car was a plain Jane AE82 Corolla sedan.
Nova # 1
Love the Nova!! I still wish I would have gotten your Prizm GSi hatchback...since I miss the one I had in college :(
Having just watched your “cars suck” video from a year ago, I wondered where it’d lead to, and I found out, lol. I’m car-free and _loving_ it! Good luck, man.
Maybe make the Fox into a lawn ornament...It sounds like all you really like about it is the styling anyways, and hey, it's already growing some plants!
😆😆😆😆😭
My late cousin owned 20 to 30+ vintage cars - we never knew for sure.
He parked them in various locations around his city and would regularly move them so he wouldn't get tickets.
After he died his family didn't know where many of them were.
As someone who’s first car was a 2000 Nissan Altima, I resent your comment about how the pervious generation Altima wasn’t all that great 😅 that was one of the most trouble free, comfortable cars I ever had and did amazing well in some harsh winter conditions. But it’s always great to see a fleet update and hear what some plans are going forward, definitely looking forward to seeing that in depth review of the chaser too!
Like others have already said, I too am so happy to see the Probe back! I thought for sure it was toast, but I’m stoked that you were able to fix it - hopefully it’ll behave itself from now on!
What you spoke was pure truth brother! Everyone online “oh I made so much selling this, it was great!” While simultaneously neglecting the fact they own a fleet of other cars that have not, nor will not ever make them a profit, much like a gambler who wins a 100k jackpot after they spent 20 years gambling 500k away. Because of your honest words and cool video, consider this little buttercup subscribed!
Love seeing the Probe! My first car was 94 Probe GT, traded it in for my first Mustang GT. Still miss that probe, probably the reason why I still have the mustang after 19 years.
Glad to hear the probes back in good order , hope you do something so unique with it !
The second gen Ford probe is, in my opinion, the most underrated car of all time. I absolutely love how it's a JDM pony car for people who can't afford a real JDM. I'd give anything for a right-hand drive RWD Probe to have been made
I'm sad I didn't see the GS300 in the video. :( That was my favorite one! You don't see that model year too much anymore.
So happy to hear about the probe love! ❤
No no you're not an idiot you're a legend, my legend and my ultimate wish it's to own a lot of cars like you do , just keep up you're genuis 😊
So disappointing about the Fox that was my favorite car and your fleet was always looking for a video on it But now understand why there wasn't one
Madness is right. Though I do have a soft spot in my heart for both the Fox (I had an ‘87 2 dr….loved that car) and fresh out of college I leased a new’97 200SX SE-R to replace the ‘93 Sentra SE-R that I bought new and sold to go to college.
Great video. I really like the 80's vibe that your videos have. My interest in 80's/90's cars began with your videos.
I’m so happy to see the Probe running again! My parents had an 03 Altima with the VQ. It was a fun family car. They definitely were a big deal in 02, they looked good, went fast and handled pretty well for a family car. My parents got 200k out of that car, then sold it to a girl going to college. It’s still going AFAIK.
Best purchase: BMW M3 E90
Worst: Isuzu Rodeo 99. It was fine to drive, but it spun a bearing so it spent a fair amount of time dead until I swapped in a new motor. At least it was cheap!
Excited about the Resurrected Ford PROBE GT updates 😎👍
You’re my new hero! What a great fleet… something to aspire to! (Seriously) keep up the great work. Your videos are hilarious!
I somehow stumbled on your channel and watched a few of your videos. Your philosophy resonates with me completely. Your brutal honesty is so shocking!
After driving cars from 1986-2018, I finally came to the realization that car ownership is not for me. In fact, driving in this mad world (where so many are driving distracted by their cell phones) is not for me. I sold off my car in 2020 and feel so relieved. However, I don't enjoy the dependence on Uber etc and I honestly don't know how to solve this nasty problem.
I deeply admire your views and I am hoping to learn much from your knowledge and experience.
1. I want to see the Probe
2. Altima? Junkie weirdo!
3. The Fox makes me sad but I think parting it out is probably the best idea
Ethan, The Nova Twin Cam RULES!!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩 But you already knew that 😉😉😉😉
I'm glad I found you I love videos with econoboxes and car history
Your collection is so good. GTP, the Probd GT, chaser!
Love your channel love your energy I totally understand your drive for unusual rides
I had I friend had a north star Cadillac that panned out in a very similar fashion. He also fell out of love with it quickly
"You could put your hand behind the tailpipe and almost nothing came out."
Admittedly, "nothing but water" is a little bit better than "almost nothing," but you got that Probe for $300! Why would anyone pay $50,000 for a Mirai?
Thanks for sharing a very nice array of vehicles.
one of the most interesting collection of cars I’ve seen, keep the Land Cruiser for sure
Love your collection. All these rare and forgotten cars (except the Altima), very nice.
I’ve only owned two cars so far, a 98 Mazda 626 (EU-spec) 1.9 and a 96 Mitsubishi Galant 2.0 V6 that I still have and drive. Both manual. The Mazda wasn’t a good purchase in the end, it was way too rusty and didn’t got much service. Was very comfortable though, but only 90hp so not fun. Sold it and I’m glad it’s good, made my a lot of headaches.
The Mitsubishi is super fun, I bought it three years ago and had zero issues with it. It’s been maintained perfectly all throughout its life and the 2.0 V6 is very fun to rev. I probably won’t ever get rid of it, because these are so rare, you can’t find them anymore.
The Probe condition made my day.
Why o' why did you buy that Altima. It just doesn't jive.
Totally agree re the Fox. I loved those things, but time to go.
Keep the Jeep. I still regret selling my TJ.
That Chaser is amazing dude. Pure JDM bliss, though it seems you had to really really work for it. Not a Chevy guy, but that Nova is awesome and looks the part.
I need one of those Hello Road front plates for my car!
I have too many cars too... 7 cars (and plans to buy 2 more) and a motorcycle. And I'm always on the look out for more cars
Nice collection of cars :) If I would have the space, certainly might end up collecting few 80's cars myself :D
I never knew that the VW had made this wagon on US... Here in Brazil it's called VW Parati, and it was a huge success. They produced facelifted versions untill 2012.
Ahhh a fellow collector/hoarder/car saver.
Folks, never buy sight unseen-get a pre purchase inspection ideally to prevent buyers remorse.
I have a clean 06’ Toyota Sequoia I plan on keeping, would love a manual Toyota Previa, 2nd gen Prius for camping abilities, Corolla wagon, Tercel wagon, Porsche 911, Geo Metro, and a 90’s Volvo wagon. The issue is space to “hide” the “eyesore” from the neighbors. 😅🙃
If you watch your own video, you’ll know which ones to sell. Definitely keep the Nova and xB. Sell the Caddie, Land Cruiser, Altima, and Fox. Consider selling the Probe because it’s still sought after. Sell the Prius but to upgrade to a newer one, maybe. Keep the Wrangler for a year and see if you get tired of it. It would be more off-roadable than the Cruiser and easier/cheaper to work on. I’d even consider selling Liam Nissan unless you are really going to get back in Lemons. Proven Lemons cars probably sell good because they can pass tech for the race. The other option is get a team together again and get back into racing it.
The xB looks great on the bronze wheels! I think the engine will be good for tons more miles, no worries with Toyota reliability!
I agree as long as Ethan takes care of it.
You're not an idiot. You're like a younger, better looking, West Coast version of me. Lol. There are worse hobbies than collecting cool affordable cars. And I want your Grand Am! I'm a sucka for some Quad4 goodness!
Old Jeep Wranglers are the most fun to own. I've owned several cool cars over the years and I've never had more fun than when I'm driving my 98 Wrangler.
Given your experience with Lemons and the way you talk about your Jeep... you, my friend, need to try the Gambler 500. The Fox is an ideal candidate tbh. We can't save all the old cars worth saving, but we can sure give some of them a sendoff for the ages doing stupid stuff in the woods. ABG!
Haha! You’re right! And I actually did a Gambler 500 way back in 2017. It was the 3rd video on this channel! 😀😀 ua-cam.com/video/JORexk5zx7E/v-deo.htmlsi=C65rIddmvSiX7iOu
Love to see that gt probe, my first car is a 1993 base manual probe iv had for 10 years, 2 weeks ago i just bought another probe but i was smart and got the 1993 gt manual. LONG LIVE THE PROBE
This guy is a real car enthusiast here respect👍🏼
Your Chaser is amazing! Hope the Integra is doing well too, or did you sell it? All the best and enjoy.
Thank you! I ended up selling the Integra last year. Loved that car but it was time to move on :) :)
I suggest you try to make the Altima fun to drive. It would be amusing and kind of neat to see such a bland car get sporty with a set of coilovers, wheels, tires, and maybe a sway bar or something. Cheers
you should do a video on how your buy and sell cars... seems like you know what you're doing!
the vw fox is awesome
That Fox is a dead set dull shocker😂. Congrats
Keep going dude 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I tell my friends about these same cars. They think I'm crazy. I'm glad I found you. LOL
About the fox wagon, reach out the Brazilians, those cars were made here and they are everywhere, with a big cult scene following, parts are cheap and they are easy to work.
I truly hope you are able to move somewhere walkable / bikeable either here or abroad.
I know in my life, it has been a totally life improving move.
Retorque head bolts on the Land cruiser??? Ive heard of that being a last ditch with some things. Unless the gasket is really damaged.
Nissan Altima. The official car of EBT carriers everywhere!
I guess they’re hard to kill even when neglected.
@@nutandboltguy3720 Tell me you're poor without saying you're poor.
I was going to offer to take the xB.1 off your hands but ..... Dude, you love your xB.1 and you should definitely keep it. I had a 2005 Prius (gen 2) with 250K miles when I traded it in for an EV. I am driving a 2005 xB.1 series 2 with 300K miles and it's my favorite ICE vehicle in the stable ... 😢
The herd needs to thin out but .... I love all my cars. Here is the current list:
1998 Honda CRV (head gasket)
2001 Ford F250 Diesel
Please please Ethan make a new Probe video. We love her and miss her! 💜💜💜
I didn't know you had bought a VW Fox Wagon, those are lovely cars, here in Argentina we had the sedan (Gacel/Senda), the hatchback (Gol) and the UTE (Saveiro), they're very reliable cars and those little engines are awesome, I currently own a third gen Parati/Gol Country which is a estate with the 1.6 AP engine, very smooth and comfy, even though it's narrow for three adults on the back.
They might have been dependable in other countries but when you add the US emissions to it, they fail quickly.
@@mexicanspecyeah. Also, salt in the roads is a problem these cars dont have in these hot countries like Argentina and Brazil
I’m more impressed that you have this much property in LA! A cardboard box and a poop hole runs you about $1800 a month
Awesome. A true car guy!
To be honest, I've had a Lexus gs300 1997 (first gen gs), it ran for almost 450k miles and it's still going on and on till this day without any problems, I consider it as one of my rare cars, right now I have Lexus gs300 2006.
I love my Geo Prizm, everyone is telling me to sell and get a new car because the Geo has some issues occasionally, I really don't want to do that, it's my first car and I'd like to keep her running
Greetings from Glenn in Cleveland! I've always had a good car and a cheap beater car. The beaters were usually winter cars. The best $300 dollars I ever spent was on a 1973 Delta 88 that I purchased in 1981. It had an incredible heater and blew out ice cubes in the summer. The car had terminal body cancer. (Good thing it was Oldsmobile shit brown in color) I drove it to hell and back over the course of a year. It needed a water pump when I got it. I sold it to a buddy for $150. It needed a radiator and a front left spring by then. He fixed it and drove it for 7 more years.
Just about 4 years ago I bought a 2009 Honda Civic Coupe with 176,000 mi. for $200 from a friend who bought the car new. He had to give up driving at 83 yrs. because of several accidents. It cost about $500 to replace the front-end body parts (in color) Mechanically, I replaced the starter. So there is something to be said about cheap cars.
I want the purple one 💜
What engine does the VW Fox have?
I'm bringing my B12 Nissan to you next time I'm back in SoCal. Nova twin cam rules
The Nova RULES!!!
I'm a huge VW fan. I own a 2012 VW Passat with the 5 cylinder engine. Having said that. The Fox is a gamble at best. Although, you may be ahead of the curb and start something. There are very few left and that's a help. It was one of VW's worst designed cars, little effort was spent on the development. But, whatever u do don't scrap it. Also, VW 2.5 5cyl engines are Venerable, tough, long lasting. Newer ones may have more HP but man the cost of timing chains and other potential failure mode points. Unfortunately the Fox has an 1.8 ltr 8 valve engine. Not the greatest.
The Chaser owner was chasing actual dreams. Be careful with that.... 😅
The Altima really fits the Big Altima Energy of the collection😂
And Painting flames on the Altima is a no brainer it's not really BAE if its not on fire!
The Ford probe is probably a future classic.
the most amazing thing to me is how you can find and afford a property that can fit 11 cars in LA
So the chevy nova twincam was durring chevy's partnership with toyota? Did toyota supply them with the 4AGE?
Yes. Car is essentially a rebadged Toyota Sprinter, built in the joint Toyota/GM NUMMI plant in California. Only about 3,300 5th gen Novas came with the 4AGE, the majority of them had the 4AC motor :)
I wish I had the money to do what you do, I would like to own a Probe. My only car is a 98 Sentra.....at least it has a manual.
I've accidentally acquired 8 vehicles kind of by accident 2 I drove, and the others I couldnt pass up on the deal, one was inherited and one was given for free.
Blue 90 chaser love it
Ethan: "Toyota figured out in the 2000's how to build an interior that lasts."
Also Ethan: "Toyota forgot in the 2010's how to build an interior that lasts."
Other thoughts:
People don't make fun of Altimas so much as their drivers. They're horrible.
"Salvage" titles are tricky, as I've come to find out. It boils down to where you live, where/how you obtained the car, the previous title status, and even where you sell it off to. I've bought a few cars out of junkyards here in WA, every single one with a "Wrecker Destroyed" title (required for a car to end up in a yard and then be resold). Only one of those cars actually was there for collision damage, and even that was minor: a broken mirror, broken tail light, and paint scrapes. Not even any significant dents. Every single one I registered after that came with a clean, unbranded title from WA (Because they were all more than 10 years old), but they legally have to carry the state patrol inspection sticker on their door jamb. Regardless of why they ended up in the junkyard. But I sold one to someone in Colorado, and Colorado threw a fit and forced me to fill out a form from their state saying it was rebuilt. Even though the Washington title bore no such brand on it. You can also, under certain circumstances here, buy a car that has been wrecked but still has a clean title, fix it up, and retain a "clean" title, with no state patrol inspection sticker, even if... say... the front end was completely destroyed. So yeah, for some people, "salvage" titles are a red flag that will have them run screaming. Personally I care more about how the vehicle actually performs, seeing as how I've "rebuilt" a few cars that ended up in the junkyard for mechanical issues.
I have a heavily salvaged 350Z and the rear fenders are bondo. The entire bottom side hit the ground and there's torn exhaust flex pipe and scratches on the gas tank. The resonator is crushed. Inside, the center console trim is too long by about 1/8" and doesn't clip in. I don't believe the body was grafted but I bet there are some secrets I never found. Runs fine and the AC is great. It's just ratty enough that I wouldn't cry if a door dinged it. Those are the worst for any car.
I got the exactly same passion and taste has you i can't afford to do what you do and thats why i collect diecast instant !!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂 but its something i plan to do in the future to own a couple of cars at least 3 to 4
I think Liam Nissan should fight the DeVille. I have no idea what that means but I think it should happen.
Let me know when you're ready to sell the Probe. Preferably without new paint. Would love to add it to my fleet of forgotten cars.
Before you send any of the cars to the junkyard, send them too me (I will have to pay you in friendship though. 😂😅🤣)
I recommend painting a car yourself.
I just painted my 98 Sentra with manual transmission....I painted it with a 4 inch roller and a gallon of Rust-Oleum Farm and Implement paint (in Kubota Orange)
I would like that Fox, would give me much more room than my Sentra.
Nice Fleet
Is that a VW Fox wagon way off in the background?
Yes I talk about it at 17:30
The Land Cruiser is worth saving. The Chaser is a great car but the previous owner simply ruined it.
$300 for that probe in the condition you bought it in? Would be at least $3000 in Georgia
I'm surprised you aren't in trouble with the city! Lol.
Haha they don't care!
I genuinely see this as an improvement.
Edit: I mean Accomplishment.
i love your fleet of weirdos! 🎉
😀😀😀😀
I'm right with you. I'm way more interested in the FWD turbo Pontiac Grand Prix from the 80s and 90s than I am in any Lamborghini or Ferrari. Yeah an AMG SLR Black series is a way, way better car than a 1992 Suzuki Swift GTI, but you can drive a Pontiac Fiero to the store. You really wanna risk your McLaren MP4-12C in a Wal-Mart parking lot? Plus let's be real, most of us will never be able to afford any suoercar, but I could very well find myself buying a Subaru SVX one day.
That Chevy Nova is a rebadged Toyota Corolla! (Like a Pontiac vibe or geo prizm) Back in high school in around 2001 or so, I was taking a auto repair elective and a fellow student bought a project similar Nova. Back then they weren’t the hidden gem they would be today. They were disappointing because our image of a Chevy Nova was a muscle car… so a Corolla Nova was just embarrassing wannabe American muscle car by name only.
Okay but can we do a Nissan Pulsar NX?
Altima wasn't great, Maxima on the other hand has the same blend in vibes, and a vq3.5....yeah it's front wheel drive. Usually an automatic. But surprisingly good for what it is.
