- Hi everyone, welcome to the second part of my Yaletown day trip. After the first sketch, I turned around and sketched the greeneries and modern apartment buildings surround the park. Please watch the video until the end to see how to capture the essence of a place quickly using pen and watercolors. This is a real-time tutorial video. The drawing and painting took me 35 minutes in total.
🎨 Materials I used:
- Winsor Newton 0.8mm fine liner pen
- Etchr watercolors (24 half pans)
- Speedball Handbook watercolor sketchbook
- Holbein Water Brush (large tip)
- Deserres water brush (Small tip)

I loved "capturing the goose leading the pack!!"😂
Girl, you SLAYED IT!!! I agree, you absolutely make it look so easy. I love your style of refreshing balanced line & wash. Very refreshing. And for the love of God, I am SOOO GLAD you listed the colors you used and WHY and WHEN you chose to use them. Sooo much easier to create a palette when I can see what the colors do! I love bright paintings/amped up sketching journalism. Ooo la la!
Really lovely Becky, thank you!
I have been watching you for a while. This is beautiful. That tree looks like a photograph. You are amazing. I think I must be caught up with your videos so UA-cam is sending me older ones. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
I love your ideas, style, use of color and ink. Excellent use of vocabulary to express your process. Great job Becky! Fun and satisfying!
This is the first "real time" video of yours that I have watched ... I loved it and learned a lot. Not only is your process and finished painting beautiful, but your explanation of each step and how you are thinking is helpful plus easy to understand. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
Love everything about your videos - thank you so much for making them for us
Love these kind of tutorials. Thank you for sharing. X
Love your demos (which I’ve just discovered). They truly prompt me to start again where I left off a good while ago. Million thanks, Becky.
I like the real time speed tutorials. Wish we could have more. Also it's nice to understand exactly what goes through your mind when you look at a scene.
Thank you so much for your interest in my videos! I’m thrilled to hear you enjoy them.
Creating and editing real-time videos does require a significant amount of time and effort. While I love sharing my art process, I also offer live classes where you can get an even more immersive and interactive experience. If you’re looking for more in-depth, real-time tutorials, I highly recommend checking out these classes. They’re a great way to support my work and help me continue creating content.

Loved the background sounds in your video, gave it a real time affect, even though watching much later.
The teaching was quite informative and helpful. Thanks!
Very nice..thank you!
Your videos are so informative and calming 😌Keep up the great work 💖
Hi Becky 👋
Your drawings are so good 👍. I keep trying on mine 😄. But you make everything so easy. I can draw a table in the room. And after that, I don't know what to do next 😂. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful drawings 👍
Thank you again, Becky.
BECKY, I'M LEARNING, LEARNING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS.
Thank you so much for sharing, it helps me to see what I need to prioritise when I try and do some sketching. Love your work and how you explain what you are doing. 🥰xxx
Your line drawing and water coloring is mesmerizing.
Thanks so much. You are helping me simplify and avoid too many details.
Thank you so much. I love your way to sketch and your way to teach us. I learn a lot with you. Muchas gracias😊❤
They look great. Love the vivid colours 👍
Just found your channel and sub'd. I'm enjoying your art but this one was particularly fun to watch as I grew up there (now live in Florida). Now I'll have to watch the quay painting beside it and all the others from your visit. Glad you are enjoying yourself in my hometown, there is certainly no shortage of amazing landscapes & cityscapes to draw and paint! 😊
Thank you! ☺️ Vancouver is my hometown too, I've been living here for 18 years now since I was a kid. Yes, the landscapes and cityscapes are always amazing and I never get bored sketching around.
Becky! This video is fantastic! Thank you so much for showing your real time process. Your sketch turned out lovely! I’ve enjoyed your work so much and missed doing your Ko-fi class in June, but for July I’ve signed up for both your Saturday and Sunday classes- YAY!! Your classes on Ko-fi are the favorite part of my week and I look forward to painting with you again. 😊😊😊
Thank you, Kathryn! ☺️ See you soon in class!
Inspiring as always thank you
Becky, I was taught this same Line Drawing method in High School 1975-1977. It is a pleasure to watch your tutorials. I came back to drawing in 2021. I had been away from drawing for about ten years. I appreciate you narrating your process. You remind me, as I was taught, that it is about shapes. I was not taught to use watercolors. So it is a interesting learning process. Thanks so much for encouraging me.
You are welcome! ☺️ Oh I love the old methods for drawing and painting!
so talented... !
Loved watching this Becky x
Thank you Kyomi!
Thanks for your enjoyable and helpful video Becky! I appreciate all the advice you give and it's very motivating. One question - what happened to the person that was on the lawn?
Thank you! I decided not to include the person laying on the lawn (the posture isn't that ideal), I preferred the geese better. ☺️
You make it look so easy ! Then I attempt to duplicate your work---ha ha , I ‘ m terrible. 🥲🥲😞
You will improve with time and practice! Don't give up 😊
