I've made this for 50 years, but with mayo only..My mother made it too. To up the protein you can add some hard boiled eggs to it, or serve some deviled eggs on the side. My family loves it.
I'm 23 and live alone but really want to start cooking more often rather than buying processed/frozen foods and you seriously give me so much motivation! I can't wait to try this out
For those of you that don’t like celery (or your family doesn’t), I subbed nice ripe tomatoes for the celery and it was delicious! Also I used chickpea pasta, because the flavors in here are bold enough that you don’t even notice the “different” taste of the pasta so you get some bonus protein! Also another tip... my husband won’t eat ANYTHING if it has crunchy raw onion in it, so I put mine in a glass dish with some avacado oil and microwave it for about 2 min till that crunch is gone... then add to the bowl...
Hi, Thank you for the recipe. My kids called our version of this salad: "kitchen sink salad," as in: " everything but the kitchen sink...!!" Whenever I made this salad, one of the kids would wander in the kitchen & offer a suggestion: " Mom, can you put some broccoli in there?" Then another would pass by & say: "Hey, some little cut-up pieces of cheese would be good." My daughter wanted grated carrots in it! It's a good thing I ran out of Kids, before I ran out room in the salad bowl!! It's So delicious every time, though, & they all feel like they participated in the meal! I even added a little bit of Ranch salad dressing for an added zing & it was great! (I did draw the line @ the suggestion of Fritos, though, even though I bet it would be good!) It's Delicious, no matter What we've added, over the years! Just have fun with it! God Bless to everyone...
I learned many decades ago to combine all the dressing ingredients in a separate bowl, THEN put them into the pasta salad---after having had a rather disastrous experience (at the age of eight, when I was first learning to cook) with clumps of mayo and sour cream in some parts, and dry ingredients in other parts. Dad showed me how to do it right, and ever since, I've always come out with a good, well-dressed pasta dish 🙂.
This is my favorite summer salad from my childhood! My mom never put a lot of mayo, in fact she used low fat mayo also. I still make it every now and then with protein pasta, Greek yogurt and eat it for my lunches. You can even put a spin on it with canned chicken breast and then add spices like chili and cumin, a little chili in adobo to make a Southwest pasta salad. Super yummy!
Great video i made this and was shocked at how easy and delicious it was, after trying it however i was missing something so i added lemon juice for a kick and i love it even more, could try it with hot sauce too. Big thanks from Croatia.
My Mother-in-law use these this for me all the time and I loved it then and still do 45 years later. I can't eat raw onions anymore, which I miss, but substitute tomatoes with mine now! I love it. . tried new fancy recipes and came back to this wonderful old favorite!
Hello, I wasn't sure of whether the recipe called for 3 cups of dry pasta or 3 cups of cooked pasta. I made it with 3 cups of dry pasta and the result was excellent. I made exactly according to the recipe, and let it mature in the refrigerator until the next day. It was a bit dry so I added another tablespoon of mayonnaise, and the salad was perfect. This could be because the brand of sour cream I have available to me is very thick. Much thicker than mayo or, for example, Greek style yogurt. Thank you for the excellent recipe.
Omg! So i made it today and sub’d the green peas for shredded carrots, red wine vinegar for apple cider Vinegar, and used vegan mayo. It was AMAZING! Thank you for this recipe! Also i used gluten free pasta! Ugh, delicious 😋
Please keep it going Dani. Still remember the 1950's style kitchen you had with "Coffee" sign above the stove, where I learned to make diced chicken and broccoli in a steamer. Your recipes have always been healthy and easy to follow, and I can't ask for much more than that.
I use tuna that is pole caught by American fishermen in American waters. It's delicious and I know it's caught in clean water and im supporting American fishermen. I feel very good about it. I get it at Whole Foods.
So so good! Great recipe especially for grown sons!!! We put it on tostadas from store and they were delish! I did all Mayo, so not quite as healthy but so good and easy. This recipe is a keeper!
Love your recipes and so appreciate the fact that you tie your long hair back when cooking in the kitchen. So many others leave their long hair hanging down in the food. Ugh!!! They think they are movie stars! Very unsanitary but they could care less. Thank you!!!!❤
Thanks for the recipe. Please don’t get me wrong, but you’re far more beautiful without makeup, you’re already gifted with natural beauty 😊. God bless!
My mommy made it different, and I'd have to try it your way to decide whose is better. But the way she taught me is this: Shell pasta, not small or large. Medium size. Then celery yes, but also sliced radish and carrot strips with the peeler. That combo is absolutely phenomenal. I imagine the peas stand in for the carrot and the onion for the radish. Just mayo salt and pepper. Someone mentioned lemon, which makes a lot of sense and would probably be what the red wine is for in yours. Also bay seasoning mentioned somewhere also sounds appropriate. Definitely going to make this rendition asap, only with our usual veg combo. Can't wait!
This was good. I improved it by cooking the pasta in salted water for 12 minutes, not al dente. I made a dressing by mixing the yogurt with the mayo added salt and pepper and the juice of one lemon then mixed 4 cans of tuna to completely blend the tuna and the dressing. I cut whole celery each stock into quarters then finely chopped and finely chopped a whole red onion mixed in with the tuna mixture until homogenized then added, rotini pasta, I did not rinse the pasta after it was cooked since it's a salad I drained and let sit until it cooled down moving it once in a while so it would not completely stick to each other doing it this way the pasta's starchy outside makes the dressing stick to it. Mixed the pasta and lastly added the defrosted peas. Just delicious it's even better after 2 hours in the fridge.
Just made this today... And it tastes wonderful 😋!! As you stated your sister made this and my sister made this too! Brought back wonderful memories 🥺❤️! Thank You!
A very practical thing to do. I am not fond of Tuna In Water but I can see that it is nicely seasoned by the rest of the ingredients. It is bland otherwise. Thankyou.
Let's keep working with those pantry staples to make some simple, clean, and delicious meals! This recipe has been in my family for years and I'm happy to be sharing an updated video with you all. Enjoy!
I made tonight with the mayonnaise and your other ingredients list also added lots other veggies ( shredded zucchini, cucumbers, corn, lil shredded cheddar cheese .... it was good but was on bland side . I still love it because it’s so healthy . Just needs xs a pop somewhere
I made it with small potatoes and bacon bits because I didn’t have the right ingredients for the recipe and it was great and I followed the mayo and yogurt to a tea and It was great I really liked it I put a small pan full of bacon bits and about four small potatoes cubed and I only did one can of tuna and salt to taste it was amazing hopefully you try it out you won’t regret it happy cooking
Best tip and Italian lady gave me was to boil your salted pasta water, add your pasta bring it to the boil, cover, turn off your heat and leave for exactly 10 min. You will have the perfect al dente pasta. I love love this salad.
I'm skipping celery because I don't like it (or maybe I'll use some pickles instead) and replacing greek yogurt with mashed avocado because I don't have it and making it for lunch. Looks delicious! :)
Oh my that looks delicious thanks for this salad recipe that's looks very healthy also.newfriendhere watching from Minnesota. Your presentation is excellent.
Made this today and it was SOOOOO GOOD!! Had this growing up as well except we added boiled eggs. I may do that next time. Either way fixed my craving and was so yummy.
I prefer my pasta to be cooked. My daughter once said that "al dente" is Italian for "it's not cooked yet" and I have to agree with her. Other than that, it looks like how I usually make it, so I'm ready to eat.
Definitely delicious & simple! Great tip about the red wine vinegar; that smallest amount of acidity really adds a lift/balance/zing to so many things (Oh look, that rhymes ☺️) Thanks as always for your enthusiasm, Dani
I've made this for 50 years, but with mayo only..My mother made it too. To up the protein you can add some hard boiled eggs to it, or serve some deviled eggs on the side. My family loves it.
Love the idea of adding eggs to this. Sounds SO good.
My mom also added hard boiled eggs to the salad. Havent made this salad in a long o time,
I eat mayo
Lol, its up to you mayo or miracle whip, its just what you like, no right or wrong.
@@cjmiller2037 My point about the 'mayo only' was that I didn't use any Greek yogurt in it...just the mayo.
I'm 23 and live alone but really want to start cooking more often rather than buying processed/frozen foods and you seriously give me so much motivation! I can't wait to try this out
This is what my boys request every Saturday. Without fail! ☺️
That's fantastic. It's a great family recipe.

Just the recipe I was looking for. Thank you! I truly love the bloopers.

Omg! Your my health life saver. I'm on a journey of being healthy. I've completed two of your recipes, and they were delicious. Thanks so much💞
It's my pleasure!! Enjoy this one.
Made this for lunch today! It’s currently in my fridge chilling! Can’t wait to dig in ❤️
I was a bit skeptical because of the simplicity of the ingredients, but damn, this was a very good salad. Definitely my new favourite.
Great video i made this and was shocked at how easy and delicious it was, after trying it however i was missing something so i added lemon juice for a kick and i love it even more, could try it with hot sauce too. Big thanks from Croatia.
I'm Diabetic, and that advice you gave in the beginning about cooking your pasta al dente was really helpful. I never knew this. Thanks
The outtakes made this video even more relatable and appreciated.

So good! I also add chopped olives and dill pickles (I dice them) to mine. Too delish! Nice video - thanks!
You remind me of Claire Dunphy from Modern Family!
Kinda!!
Does she? She always reminded me of Piper Chapman!
AikenBacon yes! Sooo much!

Thank you for the excellent recipe.
We make this all the time. We grate the red onions and marinade them in the apple cider or red wine vinegar. Makes all the difference.
I also opt for yellow peppers and fresh tomatoes
Pasta, mayo, peas, chopped boiled egg, tuna. My mom's first American recipe (Italian immigrant.) The whole family loves it.
Omg! So i made it today and sub’d the green peas for shredded carrots, red wine vinegar for apple cider Vinegar, and used vegan mayo. It was AMAZING! Thank you for this recipe! Also i used gluten free pasta! Ugh, delicious 😋

I've tried this for lunch today, though without the peas and the yogurt. It was delicious! Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it!!

A classic from my childhood as well I make this still practically every other month I use pasta shells

I honestly love your vibe and energy. Nice and simple recipe, thank you so much.
Oooh such a good lunch recipe!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful hats off heaven on earth souls beautiful thanks a million from Kenya
Made this for dinner tonight. It was so good! Can't wait for the leftover tomorrow afternoon.
Love it! I tried your recipe with sliced olives, corn, and mini mozzarella pearls. Thanks!!
I actually made this today, but with no peas and no Greek yogurt. It’s super delicious!! 😍😍😍
Looks delicious! I always add a cucumber dice up to mine. I like the crunch. ☺
I sometimes add bean sprouts for the same reason. Have a great week ahead.
Just made this. It’s absolutely the best tuna and pasta recipe.
I have been wanting to make a nice tuna salad without the extra mayo and this looks so healthy and good using yogurt. Thanks a bunch!
Anytime!! Enjoy it.
This is so good! Loved it! Thank you for sharing again!
Looks really good! We never tried to directly add frozen peas in a pasta salad before. Looking fwd to trying this out! Thank you Dani!
You can use mashed avocado instead of the dairy
Great tip! Thank you.
Perfect idea the avocado instead of diary! I love avocado!
I used avocado instead of mayonnaise.
But the avocado doesn't taste anywhere near like mayo. Are there spices or something to mush with the avacado to make it similar to mayo?
I like it with miracle whip, its up to what you like.
Thank you so much for your simple recipes, they are life changing!
It's my pleasure. Thank YOU for watching.
My husband loves this recipe! Thank you for sharing!
You’re super informative! I love all the tips and I will forever make my pasta slightly aldente now. Thank you!
