I also remember the time he said something about wanting a puppy and I went into a rant about wanting a puppy and naming it George. Then that led into wanting a whale which, of course, led into me speaking whale for a portion of the show.
Just remembered one of the funniest guest experiences as a conductor. We were coming around the bend at the final crossing and we always say something like..."cars 1-3 we're gonna wave and say Howdy, but car #4 we're gonna do something a little special..." I had these fun guys in the back of car #4. They were probably mid 20s. It was the car with the open window to the conductor so we were having a blast interacting. When I said "we're gonna do something special" this guy whipped around with wide eyes and said "we're gonna moon 'em ain't we?!" I'm not sure a guest has ever caught me so off guard!
My favorite times were messing with Josh's lines. Like when he would say "you remember WHT we talked about last night in the shack..." And instead of saying my regular saloon lune, I would make up something totally off the wall like "I sure do! You told me not to pet those black kitties with the white stripes no more!"
Loved those lines. I know a couple of us stole several of those lines and used them ourselves. The one with the black kitties, and the scrambled eggs were a couple of my favorites.
When I was a teenager, our church youth group went to SDC for a day. The girls told our train conductor that there was a guy (me) that had an awesome nickname. It was Loverboy. So we get started and the conductor says we have a celebrity on board named Jimmy who is more commonly known as Loverboy. The conductor would always ask what Loverboy thought about the dog moving out of town and changing the population etc. Then when we got to the robbery part he told the robbers to not mess with the women cuz Loverboy would get em. It was a cool experience but one where I was ready to get the girls back.
So what stories do you have? Have you seen something funny or unusual that they did during the show? A time where they blew it, got off script or it looked like someone pulled a prank or switch? I'd love to read your stories.
SirWillow One time this little girl gave Ralph a funnel cake. Alph asks, " Can we split it?" Ralph says, "No, you can have it." And shoves it in Alph's face creme pie style.
all sounds way more fun than what we got at the theme park near me, got a place called Idlewild Park and Soakzone, wish we had a train ride or something... atleast we got one of the oldest wood coasters I know of.
It's definitely one the older ones (Rollo Coaster opened 1938), but I've been on a few older- the two Giant Dippers out in California both opened in the mid 1920's. I used to ride the one in Santa Cruz all the time when I was in college nearby. And the oldest is in Lakemont, PA. Leap the Dips was quite a neat ride. I do need to make a trip to Idlewild at some point though. It's on my list of places to visit.
ua-cam.com/video/tftI4PAwoJY/v-deo.html is a good one. There are only a couple of others I've found on UA-cam. For whatever reason most of them seemed to film on my days off (more than likely on Sundays, lol)
Stealing the train sounds like a great prank! Did you / Kevin / Josh ever find the video of it? It would be neat to watch that (and other pranks) if you could either post it or provide links to a location where someone else already has.
we never heard from them one way or the other. it's not the first time in it's history that the robbers have stolen the train, but it is very very rare. for good reason. :-)
Great questions! I'll have the answers for you either in the next couple of days or next week with a "Day in the Life of a Train Robber" episode I'm working on.
When did you see it? If it was this year or last, that's the not-so-good variation that they tried to make (If it had dynamite in it, that was the "new" version). Kevin and I did ours only for one day at the end of the 2013 season.
That would be awesome then. Hope you enjoyed it and it was memorable. Wish we could have made some of that part of the regular part of the show, but since we didn't get it written down I'm afraid a lot of it was lost.
We'd prefer not to talk about those times. They are rare, and bad things happen sometimes. :) Some of which may depend on time schedules and crowd response. Though I'm sure there will be a time at some point in the future I'll talk about it. :)
Quite entertaining to say the least. A mixture of anger, laughter, embarrassment, and hilarity all at once, mixed in with a bit of swearing revenge. He was laughing because he knew we got him good, but boy did he want to get back at us for it. :-)
Nope. We got him the next to last day of the year, and he didn't have a chance that next day. He did help us the next year get a couple of the guys though.

LOL I'm guessing this was during "moon"light madness?

I better reply to him. Huff will beat me if I don't. LOL He robbed trains with me while I was out there. He still robs in fact. :-)

O.O you guys stole the train.... WOW!!!!! XDDDD that is incredible, i wish i could be on the train when something epic like that happened.
+SirWillow if you have any more of these hilarious stories PLEASE do a part 3
I remember stealing the train from Devon. I think it was Josh and I that were the two Ralphies for that train.
I definitely remember you as one of them. I don't think it was Josh with you- I'm pretty sure he was filming it from on the train.
SirWillow could you please upload this video!
PLEASE do a part 3, this is super funny
I think I got to see one of the shows with the toy horse. It was hilarious.
The story about you stealing the train should had been part of the every day show. Best story ever. Best part was at 8:35 and 8:44

5:52 I was laughing so hard my collarbone started to hurt I had to pause the video. Bloody hell its painful. Your gonna kill me
I was there when you did the twin brother thing that was funny

LOL Wow, I can totally see that though, especially with some of the guys that have worked out there. That would have been hilarious.
I love do prank on some people again

sorry, couldn't get away with Monty Python out there. lol
SirWillow do you have videos of you being the robber I liked to watch them
ua-cam.com/video/tftI4PAwoJY/v-deo.html is a good one. There are only a couple of others I've found on UA-cam. For whatever reason most of them seemed to film on my days off (more than likely on Sundays, lol)

I wish we had video. Josh I thought recorded it, but something g happened and I believe he lost that video. :-(
Kinda of curious what park management though of you guys stealing the train. Did they love the idea and get a large crack out of it?
we never heard from them one way or the other. it's not the first time in it's history that the robbers have stolen the train, but it is very very rare. for good reason. :-)
How long did you have between the shows? Did you've to wait the majority of the time? Which facilities does the shack have? Restroom/couch/sink?
Great questions! I'll have the answers for you either in the next couple of days or next week with a "Day in the Life of a Train Robber" episode I'm working on.
just curious, how did you get back to the robber's shack after you stole the train?
Jacob Lackey I just rode on the back of the next one out with the conductor. :-)
i saw the stick horse show

I don't recall dynamite at all but it was in the right time frame that you did your's.
That would be awesome then. Hope you enjoyed it and it was memorable. Wish we could have made some of that part of the regular part of the show, but since we didn't get it written down I'm afraid a lot of it was lost.
When the conductor asks "do you claim these two as your sons?" What happens when the guest says yes?

if you are still curious I found a video where someone did say they were her kids.
Link?
I've got to know, when you finally got back to the robber's shack and picked up Devon, what was his reaction?
Quite entertaining to say the least. A mixture of anger, laughter, embarrassment, and hilarity all at once, mixed in with a bit of swearing revenge. He was laughing because he knew we got him good, but boy did he want to get back at us for it. :-)
I'm sure he was thinking "man, why didn't I think of that?" So did he ever get back at you?
Nope. We got him the next to last day of the year, and he didn't have a chance that next day. He did help us the next year get a couple of the guys though.
