    I had a 2011 C6 with a 6-speed manual. That felt like a raw sports car and the 6-speed felt right. The C7 is more like a supercar. I drove the 7-speed manual but it did not feel right. I bought a red 2016 Z51 3LT and it is wonderful. Still, lots of fun to drive but the automatic just feels right. I never use the paddle shifters because the automatic works so well on its own. It is even fun to drive slow!

    I own a 2015 Z51 3LT with the 8 speed automatic. Simply put, anyone who puts down the A8 has not experienced it. It is fantastic. You can put the car in manual mode and shift all you want when you want. The biggest advantage to the A8 is the ability to make wide open throttle shifts. When you do, you are rewarded with a sound that sends chill bumps down your back. It's just awesome and faster than any driver could shift manually.
    I really related to your comments about some cars HAVE to have a manual. I totally agree. This car is different. When I was building my Vette, I decided I wanted the Ferrari Corvette instead of the Camaro Corvette. Let me explain. As you said, the high priced exotics, which this car competes very well with, don't even offer a manual. But the budget pony cars and nascar wannabes will have - and should have - a manual transmission.

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  8 років тому +1

      hudsong100 Yes, it is the wide open throttle shifts that make all the sense in the world to get the A8!

    • @tbone0785
      @tbone0785 8 років тому +4

      +hudsong100 I won't put down automatics either, and I know full throttle shifts are faster with the A8. But it seems to me that full throttle shifts in the manual would be more fun. The Stingray strikes me as more of a sports car, which is why I couldn't see me buying one with an automatic. Although I know it is more than capable of a day at the track.
      Either way, no need for people to get insulting and offended at people's choice of transmissions

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  8 років тому

      tbone0785 You know, I really need to drive the 7 speed manual. I tell myself if it were a 6 speed, i'd probably love it but something tells me i'd go in 7th when i meant for 5th. But everyone says they get used to it very quickly.

    • @tbone0785
      @tbone0785 8 років тому +1

      Exoticars19 You should definitely try the manual. There's no better feeling than hammering through the gears of a proper manual gearbox. You just feel disconnected with an automatic. Yes the A8 will shift faster and will be able lay down a faster 0-60 time, but when you get it out on the back roads and open it up you'll wish you had the manual. Besides once you get the car in your hands you won't care what the 0-60 time is.

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  8 років тому +1

      tbone0785 Agreed. I drive my neighbor's Evora with a 6-speed manual down windy roads and there's nothing like it! Pus i daily drive my manual BRZ with no issues. With the vette, we figured it was going to be daily driven and we already had a manual in the garage haha. Hopefully soon i can try out the 7 speed manual.

    I just purchased a 2019 Grand Sport 2LT automatic and I agree with everything that you said! The trans is amazingly fast and the ride is perfect for daily driving or racing. I couldn't be happier with my decision to buy this iconic American built beast! I respect those persons that prefer a manual trans and you own it for a reason.......ride your ride and let everyone else ride theirs ;o)

    I agree, to each is own. Back in the day when my crew used 2 steal Sport's car's. Automatic Mustang's were UNEXCEPTABLE! I didn't mind automatic transmission's in Z-28's Trans Am's and Vette's. Actually I never driven a manual in a Vette till this day. The 1 that is driven in this video sounds the same as the sticks I've seen on you tube.

    I got that car, 2019. It’s alright. The automatic is faster then standard. Thats why i got automatic. I don’t care if its “funnier” to have standard. Performance is the #1 priority. You can’t go faster 0 to 60 with a standard. Automatic is faster. Haters gonna hate.

    Hey bud great video. I daily my 2015 z51, just got my 3rd oil change at 21,000 miles. Im writing this to let you know its not a good idea to drive in track mode on the streets. I saw your camera bouncing around and ouch. You can really mess up your suspension bad with a few big bumps/potholes. I suggest you stay in Sport and if you want that nice purr when the valves are always open lke when track mode is on you should put your car in Sport , then go to setting>engine management >go into track mode(which will keep car sounding like its in track but have sport suspension) Hope this helps enjoy the car!

    Kind late to the video.. but i just bought the same year and model of your dad vette. It got the looks and turn heads where ever i go. For those who says: “automatic suck..should’ve gone manual” are those in their teens to 30s who can’t afford the car. Btw a guy came up to me at a gas station and talk to me about my car. He was amazed how young i am to afford such an expensive car at my age which I’m 30.
    Guy: “I’m surprise you didn’t have grey hair.” Me: “WTF? I guess he ment he never see a young dude driving a vette. Most owner of vettes are old people in their 50s - 70s...haha

    It is sooooo much fun to drive my recently purchased seven-speed manual Corvette Z51, like a very powerful military jet or something, that I rarely want to return home but to just continue driving and especially accelerating like a rocket when I can ... like for example starting on the freeway in front of fast oncoming traffic etc. I actually experience two to three seconds of TERROR! that then reduces to EXCITEMENT when accelerating from a stop. But I'm a very careful driver. If I can have this much fun with my TOYS, then billionaires must be in an earthly paradise!!!

    If you actually track your car, a great auto is where it is at. I have a 2017 6 speed manual Mustang GT and love it, but after being in a 2018 911 GTS and around the track in a 2017 ATS-V, those autos are great and way faster. Makes Down shifting at 130 and turning WAY easier.

      +Nick Rodriguez okay smartass for people who live near LA the traffic is horrible and after working people fall asleep in the horrible traffic. How about when you actually start to drive which I take is another 4 years you can start to talk about how safer an automatic is Bitch.

    • @NakedChicken69
      @NakedChicken69 8 років тому +2

      +Sol Yun there is no correlation between falling asleep and transmission type. If you're tired enough to fall asleep behind the wheel you will regardless. And no one with half a brain drives a manual in LA with all the traffic problems there.

    I didn’t see much critical said here on the A8. This transmission eliminates driver error. How many non-pros can manage a track with a stick better than the A8 which has paddles for full driver control. I driven stick all my life but once I drove the A8, stick was yesterday’s news, at least for my aggressive driving.

    I just watched my 2016 Z51 2LT, MRC, 7sp manual get built at Bowling Green. When I was there the ratio of A8's to 7M's was 80% vs 20%. The buying age group of these cars is 60+. The auto works out to a more pleasurable ride for most older owners. Even though I'm in that age group, I will always order a manual, is available. BUT, let me state here and now, it the auto was one of them dual clutch, paddle shift transmissions like what the Lambo, and Ferrari have, I'd would jump in one. The A8 is a conventional GM Hydramatic with paddle shifts as an added feature. Nice but not in the same class as a true paddle shift automatic. Yes the A8 is faster than my M7 in the 0-60 times, but not that much, and nobody on the street will ever see the difference. M7's rule !!!

    I noticed that in the lead-in of your video that you show the white C7 on the road going through the gears a bit. Did that car have the A8? I'm asking because the in the audio, it sounds like you are executing a few 'neutral exhaust blips' on the throttle. This is something I've always liked doing with my manual trans cars and I assumed I would not be able to a in neutral exhaust blip with the throttle in the C7 with an A8. If that audio is from a C7 A8, how were you making that exhaust blip?

    Yeah, I got the Z51, 3LT, A8 with paddels. That said, die hard manual folks like manual control. To each their own.
    The paddels give me that control, and the paddel shifts are as fast as MN7. To me with A8, instant shifts with faster, and more consistent street times, it was the right decision for me. The C7 MN7 can't match 0-60 speed at 3.7 Z51 and 2.9 in Z06. Driving in traffic is not enjoyable with any manual.

Even newer motorcycles have different 'drive modes' like rain mode and track mode. Different drive modes will adjust the vehicles suspension, handling, engine performance, and etc.

    The 8sp auto was designed to Shift Itself Fast, not the paddle shifter. Just check out the Head-2-Head review on youtube. The 8sp auto ATS-V turned 0-60, 3.7 seconds and that was the sedan (I've driven it)! When my ATS-V arrive I hope I do run into the manual Vette guys.

    Yeah giving it full throttle on the highway or road could easily end you in jail after such a short time on it. It's interesting compared to previous gen vettes in my experience because in the c7 it felt you did need to go into a little higher rpm before it felt like it really took off. I think both the added refinement and smoother torque curve is the reason it felt like that but It's obviously quicker than the c6 and c5 which I've had/had experience in. I sadly never fully explored my limits on previous generations but I didn't feel the night and day difference in handling people are talking about. Could have been at high cornering speeds were I heard the c6 could take you by surprise and oversteer. Hopefully I'll drive a c7 in the track within the next year and compare it to a few other high end sports cars to compare.
    Beautiful overhead shot of the stingray with the targa off.

      +bobkilla430 Unfortunately , the Z51 has just completed a long term test - 40,000 Miles in fact , it was riddled with problems including a new engine at 6,000 miles - A connecting-rod bearing had failed, sending debris through the LT1’s belly and chewing up more internals . Not including the load of cosmetic things that broke including display screens .

      I own a C7 Z06 M7 and has not even close to overheated in 95 degree weather in stop and go traffic for hours or majorly aggressive driving. Mostly you are referring to the auto overheating issues on the track, not the M7. And the Z06 is a great deal different several inches wider with 335mm rear tires, much larger and better brakes, better engine and brake cooling, much better handling and lateral g's. It also makes 420lbs of tq at 1k rpm and 550lbs of tq at 2k rpm, which makes it insanely fun to drive. LT4 has full forged internals with direct injection so 650/650 hp/tq with over 24 mpg hwy with M7. Also a Dry Sump oil system for track use (no oil starvation on high g corners). I have owned vettes and this one by far is in a league of it's own. I smile every time I get inside of it and the attention is receives is crazy.

    Randy Pobst said the Caddy ATS-V with its heavier weight puts power better down than the C7 with perfect 49/50 weightbalance, and he said perhaps the corvette and caddy guys should talk a bit more together.
    I dont know but tests in germany against Porsche 911 S shows the C7 is still a bit unrefined in handling. They say in a Porsche a complete idiot can drive really fast; in the C7 you have more work to do to get the same track time. Funwise the C7 is unbeatable !!

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  8 років тому

      +kubanskiloewe Well no surprise a Porsche 911 is easier to drive fast compared to a Vette. But a higher percentage of Porsche drivers track their cars than Vette owners. The C7 is defiantly a riot though!

    • @kubanskiloewe
      @kubanskiloewe 8 років тому

      Exoticars19
      "track" for you us guys means to us in germany fast driving on autobahn with much traffic around. Most drivers are really no professionals but drive still full throttle if the "bahn" is free and unlimited for a few km.
      So a driver will test drive always these sports cars fast...very fast on autobahn for comparison. This makes the Porsche or these AWD AUDI RS more easy and practical to drive.....for everage Fritz and Erna.
      In our Corvette Forum some Z06 owners complain about overheating after a few minutes of fast autobahn driving. Such things do not occour in USA with speed limit.
      Our Autobahn racing "driving" brought Ford to sell their Mustang only with better brakes and better shocks in europe version as well as Chevy sell the C7 min. with Z51 version in europe !

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  8 років тому

      kubanskiloewe Yes the new Z06 is problem free when using it as a cruiser to enjoy in the streets. Unfortunately, it'll only allow for 3 good laps around the Circuit of the Americas before it overheats. Hopefully something that they can resolve soon. As for the Z51 Stingray and new to come Grand Sport, they're fantastic so far. Ours is problem free even when driving all day in the Texas summer heat! As for Porsche, those things just work. Gotta love that! I've driven the 911 (991) GT3 and my goodness is it great! Not difficult to drive fast on track, but rewards those who know what they're doing. Whereas with the Corvettes, they make for surprisingly good daily drivers, and good track cars if you know what you're doing.

    • @kubanskiloewe
      @kubanskiloewe 8 років тому

      Exoticars19
      this C7 grand sport is a C7 with more downforce spoilerkits for track racing ?
      If so it will loose top speed on autobahn as the Z06 with this 3rd package does a lot !
      ZR1 owners are still the fastest corvette drivers stock vs stock i think.
      Perhaps the Camaro ZL1 with 10speed auto will break the 200mph easier. Hellcats do.

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  8 років тому

      kubanskiloewe The new grand sport is as sleek as the Stingray without the Z07 package. With the Z07 package, it has just as much drag as the actual Z06 but without the supercharger. So it's just kinda the lap times vs. top speed trade off.

  • @alberteynstyne
    @alberteynstyne 8 років тому

    As if the Corvette is the 1st car to have a fast shifting automatic. My BMW 6 speed auto in a 335i, made in '07 is awesome. I think this 8 speed is the same builder, a ZF. Nothing wrong with a manual but the reason for having one has all but disappeared. The new autos shift faster and you will get better mileage. If you need a manual to have fun driving you're doing something wrong. By the way my C7 has the 7 speed manual.

    • @marcsmith3881
      @marcsmith3881 8 років тому

      +Richard Lug Just FYI, ZF did not build this 8 speed Auto. It was totally built in house by GM. They build the transmission in the Hellcat or licenses Chrysler to build it. The GM 8L90 has a higher torque rating at just under 740 ft-lbs. It had to be strong to handle the torque of the Z06.

    nice video; sub'd! just bought a z06 with the manual trans.
