That Black album is pretty good, especially the title track. Nice to see Prefab Sprout. I really like that band and my kids like the videos from that record.
Just found your channel and enjoying your take on music and life in general. My vinyl collection is also full of stuff I have yet to listen to and duplicates. Drives my wife crazy.
I was tempted just to write 'Fanx Ta-Ra'. 😉 My other half never shuts-up about my vinyl too. And not in a good way. Good to hear there's at least one other nut job collector out there!
UPDATE: I've listened to the Burt Bacharach LP now, and it's rather impressive. Unlike a lot of easy listening music, being 'live' it has a rawness that's appealing. Clearly built around a small group (nice prominent bass and drums), with strings and brass alongside, it's very tuneful. Burt sings a little, not very well, but he has a female singing ensemble who do well. It's astonishing how many iconic hits he wrote. He must have been a very, very wealthy man. Good LP. Worth getting if you like a bit of lounge style.
Another great video David. I've got a mate who's got over 6,000 albums on vinyl. Often, for his birthday I'll buy him something I know he doesn't have, knowing it's just a drop in the ocean. I regularly pull his leg about how he can do justice to a collection so big. He's even got an album with just birdsong on it. Needless to say, he's never listened to it. When does music collecting become an addiction? I realised, watching this that I've got stuff I've never played!!
Enjoying the collection video! Might have to subscribe to your channel. I hVe a vinyl collection but it’s pretty small, my CD collection is noticeably larger. Cheers ☮️
@@davidatkinson-lifematters4826Absolutely ! I have a DVD of all the great vocalists performing his classic songs through the years.. No wonder Elvis Costello wanted to work with him.. like two peas in a pod ! Haha..
Hi David, I have a 12" of that Black tune "Wonderful Life." The Burt Bacarach is very listenable, and I share your enthusiasm for that one. I have that Gilmour album on compact disc, and I think his wife wrote most of the songs as you said, and if I'm not mistaken on The Division Bell as well. I love Prefab Sprout. Fun video my friend!
@@davidatkinson-lifematters4826 Hi David, I just posted another Random Selections video part 2 with a special guest. I am sure you will find it amusing. ✌️🍺
P Sprout´s Steve McQueen is an absolute masterpiece imho as is Jordan the comeback. Simply wonderful albums through and through.. I´m not a huge Costello fan, but certainly King of America is a fav of mine - Great album - might spin the cd later.. Great stuff David
Do you have the album Elvis Costello wrote with Burt Bacharach - Painted from Memory? Its really rather good. Does Bacharach sing his own songs on that Live in Japan album? His voice is very weak so I hope he uses others to sing his songs. Prefab Sprout are a great band. I had a ticket to see them on the tour for Swoon but the gig was cancelled due to very poor ticket sales. I did see them on the Jordan tour at Hammersmith Apollo in the early 1990s. They were excellent.
I do have that album Mark. I've never really taken to it though, as I find Elvis' singing on too mannered. I have loads of time for him and his albums, and he's done much better. Nice try though. And yes, Burt sings a couple of songs on that album. Not brilliant, but the 3CD set I have of others singing his songs is stellar.
King Of America Elvis was so innovative, and showcased his masterful songwriting.. Gilmour, wow! I am watching the rest David.. very nice ! Cheers.

2ND UPDATE: I just found that I have an original 'Live in Japan' vinyl LP, confirming my statement that I have too many LPs!

We're a funny lot, alright.
Now, where is my birdsong box set? I'm sure it's around somewhere.

Burt is great ! And his singing voice is alright. especially with the quality of classics he has written.
Soon after making this video I played a 3CD set of his classics from beginning to end. What an incredible talent he is. Top of the tree.

King if America is a great album, I've probably played it more than any other I own .

Thanks Mike. Kind of fun to find that people like us have room for a bit of Burt in the collection.
