While I'm not complaining, I've waited over one hour on each of three occasions to get my Auto Train car. And I've arrived each time at the start at 12:30. But it beats driving 900 miles so I'm happy.
I didn't eat my snacks from Chicago to California. I did eat snacks going to Chicago from California. I had sleeper cars and I got to eat snacks in Chicago’s Union Station before departing. They are included if you have a sleeper. Amtrak has deserts with meals! Butter cake!
Looks like a nice trip, and your dad is very much a gentleman, he is five years older than me, so if he can climb into that top bunk then I should be able to as well.
What a delight, riding with you and Dad on the Auto Train. A great look at a train I’d like to ride. Being on the west coast, not sure if that’ll ever happen. So thanks for the informative video.
Hi Allie, one way we save money is staying @ Drury Inn if available where we have to stay overnight. It's on par price as the Phoenix Park or IHG chain. You get a lovely breakfast (I really like the gravy & biscuits and scrambled eggs, my kids like the waffles. In New Orleans you get waffles & pancakes & grits! & gumbo for dinner) AND dinner with 3 free small alcoholic drinks, too, plus free popcorn & soda from 4-8 pm. The hot tub is wonderful. In NOLA, the restaurant is open till late.
First off let me say I love your videos. However it seems like you have been recycling some recently. I have no issues with that per se, it just would be nice if it is labled some like "best of". Once I would see that I would know whether it was one I have alredy seen or not. Thanks!
The river being crossed early in the video is the Occoquan. How could you even have thought that a train originating in Virginia would cross the Potomac?
Thanks to you and Rob, I hopped on a deal getting the. Amtrak, credit card a few years ago and was able to use the points to take three trains cross country in sleeper cars. The total points going cross country was around 48000 points. It was the best adventure I think i've had in my life traveling. so I have been using that credit card for all my expenses to build up the points. And I finally tried to book just one train going from Chicago to Seattle, the Empire Builder. Points for just the one train were 50,000 points. I don't even have that much saved, maybe half so, it would take another couple years, probably to save enough points for that trip. I am truly saddened how Amtrack has devalued the points for their customers. I haven't heard you say anything about that And I know you guys travel and get a lot of special promos and percentages because of your extensive travel but I was hoping somewhere on the line you would also make mention of how Amtrack has devalued the points so that Amtrak realizes people are paying attention.
In your intro is that Acela coming southbound into Wilmington, DE? I've watched quite a few of your videos now and I keep thinking that looks awfully familiar.
How can someone like me to travel on Amtrak Trains while I am on SSI Disability to afford a room to sleep in. What do you recommend for travel on Amtrak Trains.
You can't be "most unique." Only "unique." No such thing as "most unique." Yeah, I'm an editor. And I love your videos. And train travel! And you guys are both helpful and unique!
Any chance this trip SOUTH was on November 19? We took train north on November 18 which had a truck get stuck on tracks near Palatka, FL as well as a broken track in South Carolina. We arrived Lorton almost 3 hours late on November 19
Wait u sold your house and car??? I always thought u guys would return home but damn thats crazy but now i see how u guys have the $$$ to always do the rooms on trains and hotels all the times
Your background music could benefit from some variation from re-using the same on every video. Amtrak should consider adding one or two more Auto Train routes, if they can fit more rolling stock into their budget. As long as they're not hindered by certain areas of the country that only allow overhead space for single-level train cars. Those northeast U.S. tunnels and underpasses date back to an earlier railroad time period.
In fact that Auto Train only exists because Amtrak inherited it from the private company that originally built it. The Wikipedia article gives details. No chance Amtrak would build the special terminals and equipment for another such route.
@@robertshedd31 They could create a 2nd Auto Train that would also still use the Sanford, Florida depot at the southern end. Example: Niagara Falls, NY - Cleveland - Cincinnati - Direct south on Norfolk Southern tracks to Chattanooga - Atlanta - Jacksonville - Sanford. This route avoids any height limitations for double-decker train cars. Would benefit Canadians going to Florida in the winter, as well as U.S. travelers. The short-lived Auto Train that ran from Louisville was poorly thought out: should have originated near Chicago & demanded faster transit times on refurbished tracks, for ~79 MPH operating speeds.
Lol. I agree w you on music they use ! It's a bit sad tone ,kinda depressing ,right ? I always felt that way ,too ! ( they need varieties ! ),but I had come to conclusion that somehow they decided this one as their theme music ?? Many UA-camrs do have their theme music ! Lol. I'd say a wrong one for a train traveling videos .But,I've been watching their channel / videos for a few years now & found out they use a couple of different music pieces, believe or not !! Lol.😅But,mainly this one !! Lol. I dislike this piece for traveling videos !!👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
Keeping your shoes on people !! LOLAs it is a safety / hygiene issue !!! LOL I do not understand how some people are ok for going to toilets/ bathrooms wearing no shoes !! Do they know how dirty they are & there are so much bacteria there !! Many different kinds of bad stuff !!( invisible ones ,too ,full of germs !! ) 😅And no one wanna smell your feet !! Common etiquette. 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
What a handsome dad you have!! Hope he enjoyed the trip!!
We have taken AutoTrain several times. In early years there were wine cheese parties for sleeper passengers. Still a quick ride to Fla.
We had a wine and cheese party on the Zephyr from Chicago West last week. They said they were just trying to start it back up again.
Looks like your dad really enjoyed the trip and a great memory for you !
Your Dad is so sweet and handsome!!! I could tell he enjoyed the trip!! ❤❤
I love taking the Auto Train.
I loved this, taking my Mom on our 1st trip in 2 weeks from Pdx to Chi. We’re looking forward to the experience.

Always bring some snacks on the train.

I have seen this one before awhile back! I thought it was a new video! 😂
Your dad is so cute! 💖
Loved "meeting" your Dad!!

I love your background music. So relaxing!

For the past year they have only been showing old videos such a disappointment 😔
Cute dinner booths.

I’m not sure if they have devalued the points as much as raised prices-just like everything else in travel.
Doubling, the prices made the points half value
Your daddy is cute & seems like a very sweet gentleman !! 💗💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🚈💕💞
Watching the cars load and unload is fun! Not the train cars.
Think this is a repeat video?
thanks for sharing
I have been on that train 20times
In your intro is that Acela coming southbound into Wilmington, DE? I've watched quite a few of your videos now and I keep thinking that looks awfully familiar.
A thing is either "unique" or "not unique". There are no degrees of "unique"
How can someone like me to travel on Amtrak Trains while I am on SSI Disability to afford a room to sleep in. What do you recommend for travel on Amtrak Trains.
If you tell them that when you get your ticket you will be on the lower level on the train an the crew will bring you all meals

I wish you would say at the beginning where you were (city, state) and where you were going
Please tell us the name of that tinkly piano background music.
Wait u sold your house and car??? I always thought u guys would return home but damn thats crazy but now i see how u guys have the $$$ to always do the rooms on trains and hotels all the times
You sold everything are you leaving the country?????
They've said on other videos that they sold everything & moved to Thailand.

I'm surprised that you and your husband Rob sold your house and car to where you have no car and house
