The song is about being good to your fellow man which is something that everyone should follow whether they are Christian or not. Honestly would rather hear this in a Christmas rendition rather than Frosty the Snowman since its something that does related to the true meaning of Christmas. Everytime I hear this, I always cry because it so heartwarming.
Well, being good to other living creatures, it has nothing to do with being good to fellow man though. Birds are not considered men last I checked. But yes, kindness towards animals is a beautiful thing. :P
On the surface ,yes, a song about birds in need. Digging deeper into symbolism and reading between the lines and in the context of the movie it is from, also a yes, about caring about your fellow humans. Matthew chapter 25. But if we don't start caring about each other and our planet, flora and fauna, we will not need to travel to Mars for we will make earth into Mars.
This was always my favorite song in Mary Poppins. Such a sad, wistful, haunting melody in the midst of all the other light-hearted, fun songs. There's so much meaning in this song! Reminding us to be thoughtful, kind, and generous to those in need.
I was at St Pauls yesterday! Not even ashamed to say I sung this song on the steps, such a coincidence this was posted today! Lovely x

One of my favorite songs. Even though this is in a different pitch, I was so enthralled by how you did your own rendition. I did not hear a Julie Andrews wannabe or amateur. I heard a true individual artist.

I came home from work a bit late today & my 18 yr old son, his friend, & their girlfriends (on Spring break) had taken over my family room to watch...Mary Poppins! So I just HAD to come listen to this a few times through.

Huh... I had no idea. But this is my favorite song from Mary Poppins, and I have noticed that not only do most people not consider this their favorite song, but most do not even remember this song... which is sad, because it is so amazing.

Oh wow, this is beautiful! I was exploring your music because I've discovered that it's just the perfect thing to write to - your voice is so beautiful and haunting in the best possible way and all of the songs I've listened to are so unique and gorgeous and wonderful - but I have to say that despite my fierce fangirling, this song hit me harder than any of your Hobbit songs or Never Knew I Had a Heart (which I love, love, love!) and it has made me cry - there are still tears in my eyes. When I was little, I would watch Mary Poppins every day without fail, it was the first thing I ever fangirled over, if you can call the daydreaming and adoration of a toddler fangirling, but I haven't seen it or listened to anything from it in years. At the age of three I knew all the words to all the songs but I think (it was a long time ago) this was always my favourite, and I remember begging my mum to let me feed the birds every time we went into town. It's got to the point where I'm afraid to watch the film again in case it isn't as wonderful as I've remembered, but this has made me ashamed to think so stupidly. This is just so beautiful and it was so out of the blue, but I was suddenly overwhelmed with memories. Having just completed my final year of secondary school, I've been thinking a lot about my childhood and reminiscing as though I was 80 rather than 18, and somehow this has struck a cord, I don't know. It kind of reminds me of the innocent, hopeful little girl I was and makes me wonder how much of that toddler is still here now. I don't know what it is about your singing but god, it's amazing. Thank you for sharing this, that's all I can say. It makes me so happy despite the fact that it also makes me cry. Sorry for leaving such a long waffling review that probably makes me seem a little odd, but I just had to tell you how perfect this is. Thank you. x
i just realised something if you give the tuppence to the bird woman your giveing her money to feed herself and she can feed the birds and the birds come back for more food and she can get money for food your basicly helping her and the birds live

Beautiful song, as always. And as for Christmas music, take a close look at the lyrics in some of those carols, some really aren't that Christian. The holly and the ivy comes to mind.
