Boba people end up doing that, from trimming and pruning the trees to prevent the branches from being in the roadway, when you cut a tree branch, limb, or stock, that bit will not grow past that cut. If you make a cut after a node a new branch will grow but it tends to grow upward-and-outward from that point. This continues until the branches dont interfere with the roadway. Essentially if it's done correctly then the tree will "learn" where not to grow especially where box trucks and semi trucks are concerned. Due to them disrupting the limbs either from rubbing or breaking off a limb. Interesting factoid that plays into this, trees of different species tend to not "merge" their canopies and will actually stop growing in the direction of a different species as to not compete for light, however trees of similar species will "merge" their canopies and sometimes they will graft together to become a singular tree (these are super cool if they grafted enough to become a singular limb and you have a chance to cut a cross section because you can see where they started to grow together).
