Rox I guess there were 3 major issues with this song and all are bit technical. 1 - master drummer Dave Abbruzzese did double drums loop. The the song also credits Dave Abbruzzese as a song contributor. Lastly Eddie also had to do double vocals take on this song to create the ambiance which you must’ve observed missing from this live play. A great song from the grunge era!!!
Shitlib...yea, keep wearing your underwear on your face. PJ's commie politics were something that most of their early fans tolerated because they were so damn good. But after Abbruzzese's departure and their immediate transformation into a shitty garage band, nobody gave a damn about them and they were rightfully hated for being pretentious assholes. nb4 the whole 'they don't need you, they still pack concerts', yes they still limp on with a remnant of their most devout and sycophantic fanbase, consisting of the lowest denominator of tone-deaf, arrested development fanboys who cling unconditionally to their idols. But they had the world in the palm of their hands and had the potential to really elevate rock to greater heights. Instead, they helped to kill rock by regressing to a lifeless, Neil Young tier hobo sound.

He really doesn't get PJ's sound. His sound aesthetic is total shit. Sad to see such a formerly great band reduced to a parody of themselves. Suits them right for dirty dogging Dave.
Dave is such a good drummer that i would bet if he returned to PJ even now (after they've been sucking for almost 30 years), he would still manage to energize their sound and we would at least have a chance of seeing them return to form.
Welcome to that time now. It's irrelevant because it sounds lifeless and lazy and wouldn't inspire anyone if it was recorded with this kind of sub par instrumentation now. The version off of Vs lives on I guess.

Is there any legacy Pearl Jam song that Matt Cameron doesn't make sound like shit? He drains the life out of any song, almost like he's trying to make them sound as bad as he can.

Matt playing it 'his way' is an affront to fans who want to hear it the 'record's way'. Straying from the recorded versions so drastically is not the mark of a good musician. It's an indication that he doesn't care what fans like. Is he such an egotistical ahole that he presumes his way sounds better, or does he just lack the ability to play like Dave?
I'm grateful they keep playing this song. It's one of my favorites.

Indeed. Plain to see that the drums were really what made this song. Without Dave's bombastic rhythms on this track, it sounds like an amateur cover.
Great song and bass line.
Such an awesome groove, and a foretelling last verse.

Dave had a flow like no other. Matt is good but he's too straight forward of a player to do Ten or Vs. any justice.
2 whole steps but the point remains. As singers age they have to keep lowering the key by a step or two and many times the feel is lost.
Same key .. he’s singing the 3rd and 4th below
Thanks
Todays Pearl Jam sounds like an average Pearl Jam coverband. In the Abbruzzese era from '91 to '94 they had been the best live band at all. Long ago.
