Man, those are both awesome bags but so different. If I could only pick one probably the Bullet because of the extra couple liters in volume and it would be an overall better bag in travel needs. For EDC, I’d probably choose CPL16.
I have decided to go for the Bullet DC 18 L over the CTB20 because one of the local EDC community member is letting go his for around $180. I already have the CTB26 so i would prefer to try other bag in the 20L range. According to JB Outside, the DC Bullet can fit up to 24L when its fully packed out. All good
I agree the Bullet Ruck Double is packing way over its 18L listed capacity, plus it’s very lightweight using the robic material. Great deal as well! Hard to pass that up compared to the much heavier CTB20! Certainly, those are very different bags but both are incredible in their own right!
i have this pack and for EDC is great , two things one arm slinging the fabric is so slippery along with the short length it flips off my shoulder all the time. the straps are to short. I really wish they where longer.
The 210d used in the bag certainly is more slick that 500d but I find it nice and easy to take on and off. A sternum strap helps me keep it secure when on body, though I’m rarely using only one shoulder.
Watched your video 3-4x as I wait the arrival of my GR 18 DC in tidal blue from 🇺🇸 to the 🇵🇭. Didn’t really have a designated use case for it but with a sale price, just couldn’t say no. Thanks for a thorough review!
That price was unbelievable! You’re going to absolutely love it and for the price it’s hard to beat in terms of bang for buck! Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video.
Man, the 18L Bullet 2 compartment is a damn beast and I'm pretty sure it fits more than 18L. I just put a Nikon Z8 with 400mm lens attached, a 24-120mm lens, an OM-1 with 90mm macro attached, a flash, diffuser, a change of clothes in a PD small packing cube, minimal tech and toiletries and kibble for my dog for 2 days. How the hell does all that fit in 18L?! I also have the Able Carry Daily Plus, which is 21L and I couldn't even dream of fitting all of this in it. Same with the PD Everyday Zip 20L.
I have no idea! It’s wild how much that thing fits. I bought it thinking this will be a nice, well sized, EDC bag and it’s far more capable. Easily a travel companion and holds its shape really well, even when packed out. This one really surprised me.
Great review brother! I still don’t know how I feel about the rip stop. I like as you said the malleability however I worry it can rip easy as it feels thin? It does probably add some function on the slash pocket providing a little more give. I would love to see this in EG ecopak!
Thank you! That’s the truth, right? At this point we don’t have any long term durability experience so time will tell. I’m hoping the ‘ripstop’ will do as the name suggests but I am worried about punctures. I’ve been asked this a bunch so far, so I’ll do a long term review down the line.
Thank you so much for the very detailed review! Helped my decisiom to buy the bag after bein not so sure of the layout. Looking forward for it to arrive.
Hmm got mine as well, but sort of liking the white arrowhead for now. Mine does not have the stich in arrowhead outline on the velcro patch but the do include a standard Goruck patch instead.
Great review! I had one and sold it because I never used it. Now I am thinking if getting another one to throw in my GR2 as a daypack for when I travel. Question, where did you get the PB and J patches? Thanks!
Thank you! This bag definitely blends the worlds of daily carry and travel, and does it well with how well it segments space. I think it’s be a good partner for the GR2, especially stashed in the front compartment. Both patches are from PS Patch Designs. They have a website and Etsy store, I believe.
Thanks! The robic allows the bag to drape naturally. The front will have a slightly billowy look but due to the foam on the bottom and the very structured back panel it does keep its form for the most part.
For your personal EDC / laptop bag, which of these would you be grabbing if you could only grab one (non-travel): - Bullet Ruck Double 18L - GR1 Slick 21L - CTB 20L - CPL 16L I'd really appreciate your insight on this 🫡
With travel needs removed, think I’d be able to eliminate the GR1 and CTB20. For EDC, I generally don’t ‘need’ more than 18, though I like the extra space being available. I’d probably go with the CTB16 simply for the better laptop compartment. The Bullet has comparable organization but is a little bigger and that stock frame sheet is really thick and needs replacement IMO.
How's it looking? I really like the more discrete and low key branding. I felt the large white arrowhead was to loud, especially when you consider that was never something GR did a few year ago. Not a fan of the overly branded designs you find on the Ruckers either.
@@ECsEDC Black marker was sold out so I got a dark grey one and I like it. It has a very light contrast now like the brown color and the grey color rucker has.
@@ECsEDC if you look on vinted for a goruck long range Rucker you'll see how it looks with a black textile marker only one layer. You can make it darker by going over it more. Did that on my Rucker

Nice review! So if you could only pick one… Bullet 18L or GR1 21L? I’m torn and I really like the heritage look, I wish they offer a Bullet heritage (non-camo)
I think that's subjective. What is your use-case? Are you going to use this for EDC? Is it just going in the car with you to work or on your commute? Are you trying to ruck in this? Are you participating in a GORUCK event with it? I love the lightweight aspect as I use it for daily carry and light travel. The robic is super easy to clean and sheds hair and dirt without issue. I'm not going to be able to tell you much else, as it's been used for ~6 months. Not quite long enough to know long term durability, but so far it has not disappointed in my use cases.
@@ECsEDC I found that the price of riptop material is much cheaper than others. If I'm not mistaken, this material is often used by cheap bags. Also, it is not uncommon for ripstop to be used only as the inner lining material for high-end bags. My other concern: is the material stiff enough to support the structure/shape of the bag.
@@MS-ge2jb I can’t speak to pricing as I simply don’t know but I’d imagine it may be cheaper than 500d nylon not to mention waxed canvas. Yo, that stretchy material in the second compartment is kinda sus. What happens when it wears out? How are you supposed to fix that? The rest of the bag is made of tough materials, so why did they use that flimsy stuff there?
That's a good call out. I always worry about the longevitiy of stretch materials such as elastic in water bottle pockets or in this case the interior mesh pocket. From my day-to-day, I rearely put larger things in there - mostly just small pouches or snacks. The extreme example of fitting a CAP2 is simple to demonstrate it's capabilities and doing that on a regular basis is a sure way to shorten it's 'stretch lifespan'. But regarding your commend on flimsy materials, i'd actually disagree. GR is not known for using 'flimsy' materials and if anything it's the opposite. I suspect they did RnD and testing and vetted this material before placing in their product. Ultimately time will tell, so we'll see!
@@ECsEDC also noticed how the laptop compartment is located, it's off centered, with all the stitches, it looks like it's unrefined like Frankenstein bag and unrefined and as well as the stitches seemed poorly connected. I will skip this version and wait for the next.
Had this bag in 16L. Sent it back. Found the back panel way too stiff and overall not very comfortable when packed out. Had a lot of pockets but everything felt a little too tight for my liking.
I also felt that way. I happened to have some frame sheets at home so I traced the GR one and placed in a much thinner one. That fixed the extreme stiffness right away.
I remove the frame sheets in all my Laptop Bullet rucks. There really isn't any need. I find the laptop compartment and padding provides enough stiffness
@@bagaholic_edc I can see how that could definitely work. I guess it just aggravated me that the original design of the bag, withframe sheet, didn’t work.
