There's more to it than that. Lots of pitchers can throw hard. Not many can throw hard for 7+ innings. It's about conditioning and mechanics. Greinke's answer is typical him - subversively hilarious.

Greinke is vocal about being low effort, which is evident in him using his best pitch, his slider, only 14% of the time. It's not surprising at all he could throw high 90s if he wants.

Hall of Fame is watered down. I hope he is the first to say "no thank you" and goes down in history for that. Then creates the "greinke" hall of Fame to compete with the Cooperstown one, puts that hall of Fame in Houston or Kansas City and brings all the hall of Fame rejects into his hall of Fame starting with Pete Rose, Gary Sheffield, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, Barry bonds and Mark McGuire.. first ballot greinke hall of gamers there. My dad coached against Greinke when he was in high school. Got to watch him play once when I was a kid. I’ll never forget him hitting 98mph and going 3-3 with 3 doubles. Dude could rake too.
You'll never forget him pitching 98 in high school?? That's crazy because that never happened. Fastest he pitched in high school was 94.

I vividly remember being in the dugout when West Orange was playing Apopka, and the entire team going nuts saying “he just touched 98.” You don’t have to believe it, makes no difference to me lol.
