The stunning Benbulben Mountain in County Sligo

- Benbulbin, sometimes spelled Ben Bulben or Benbulben (from the Irish: Binn Ghulbain), is a large flat-topped rock formation in County Sligo, Ireland. It is part of the Dartry Mountains, in an area sometimes called "Yeats Country"
Geology
Formation
Benbulbin was shaped during the ice age, when Ireland was under glaciers. Originally it was a large plateau. Glaciers moving from the northeast to southwest shaped it into its present distinct formation.
Rock composition
Benbulbin, and the Dartry Mountains as a whole, are composed of limestones on top of mudstones. These rocks formed in the area approximately 320 million years ago in a shallow sea. Uppermost in the limestone layer is a thicker, harder limestone called the Dartry Limestone Formation. Below this is a thinner transitional limestone formation - the Glencar Limestone Formation. Further down, the lower slopes consist of shaly mudstone known as the Benbulben Shale Formation. Scree deposits are found near the base.
Fossils exist throughout the layers of the mountains. All layers have many fossilised sea shells. The shale layer also holds some corals.
Baryte was mined at Glencarbury near Benbulbin in the Dartry range between 1894 and 1979.
Wow what a magical place ❤
Absolutely stunning scenery amazing sligo is a stunningly beautiful county
Fabulous video , well done! Myself and my wife climbed this mountain 3 years ago as I always admired this iconic mountain. The legend of Dairmut and Graine hiding out there on the cliffs inside a cave from Finn mcCulle is fascinating .
So it's climmeable is it ,it looks a formidable challenges. One day thought ,you must have had a great time ,stay safe stay well ,from Dublin Ireland, god bless

I would love to somehow lose my US citizenship, and become an Irish citizen.
You're more than welcome 🇮🇪🍀
@@DroningaboutIreland probably NOT possible for me
If you have Irish parents or grandparents, you are entitled to an Irish passport.
@@treborsirrah7916 Unfortunately my ancestors came during the famine
@@danielobrien8417there was never a "famine" it was a starvation of the native people, a genocide. The English took boat loads of food from Ireland to England to feed their own. 😭 It was called An Gort Mor.
Sligo is a stunningly beautiful county no doubt about it
Beautiful video!!! ❤ God Bless our wonderful country 🇮🇪
WOWZERS. Man why can't I have rocks like that here in Philly? 😳😳😳😳🙈🙈🙈 Lol
Mikey
Formed in the last ice age it was a sea bed at one point in time, the fossils from the rock contain sea shell's and aquatic animals.

Top o'the morning to ye Mick. Can you get to the top of Benbulben without needing ropes?
@@MrGarrett hello there i honestly don't know because i have never had the pleasure of climbing it but i would think be better off without ropes unlike there would be much to connect the ropes to teeeeeerio

@@michaeldevaney5728 ua-cam.com/video/Jbgs8QDfkG8/v-deo.html Found this video. It appears that the summit is attainable but not without a challenge. Thanks for your kind words bud. Maybe see you up there one day.
great video, i'm irish and that was a total suprise to me.
You've never visited Sligo?
@@DroningaboutIreland a long time ago when my interests were restricted to what the county had to offer at night
@@chrisclassical7 to be fair it has a good nightlife 🍻
Such a cinematic geological sight. Surprising it hasn't figured more in films before now.
Mount benbulben is the remaining trunk of a giant willow tree . The irish willow species of tree found growing on benbulben has never been found growing anywhere else in nature other than growing high up on benbulbens crevices . The willow species of tree is different from the rest with the hormones they produce . The benbulben willow had to be one of the last giant trees on earth to perish / cut down in the bronze ages with bronze tree axes.
why was it cut down? Do you think
Who cut it down. How big was the axe?
Did you see the size of the chicken ….
That the tree was cut down for….
To use the stump as the cutting block…..
The most irish comment ever

In the Book of Enoch, 200 angels cut down all the ancient trees.
Anunnaki are the angels. Benbulbin Tree was not just cut down, but heavily quarried.
The horizontal lines are the damages dealt by gigantic rotter excavator.
Great video, lovely music, the first time I saw a photo of Ben Bulben as a child, Devil's Tower from Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind came to my mind 😁
