Uh.. What's Happening In SoD and Cataclysm?! | World of Warcraft

- PvP in Season of Discovery is a wild ride, filled with one-shot chaos and some updates. We gave feedback, they brought in damage reduction auras, but balance is still wonky. Server transfers? Drama alert! And casual play? Seems like it's taking a hit. Cataclysm's launch? Messy, messy. Arcane mages? They need some love, seriously. People want account-wide rewards and easier stuff to do. But hey, we're still trucking along in WoW land.

WHIPER ME IN GAME ANYTIME!!!! Skyymage or Skyycbk | Crusader Strike Horde
Wow classic was never casual friendly, slapping some runes and new raids will not change that.
EU or US
What's your guilds name?
US, ty...
P3 of SoD felt like they took a look at the mass SM dungeon grinding that happened in P2, and instead of saying, "Hey, how can we make it so players feel better about actually questing out in the world?"... they said, "So, how do we make something that is even more spammable than SM dungeon grinding?"
I did try the incursions, I saw how efficient they were, but after thinking about it I just found myself thinking, "Yeah, this ain't it." It felt like completely ignoring the rest of the game to focus on endlessly spamming a dozen quests. And that ain't 'casual', its a mad rush to max level so you can sit there and raid log once a week.
I mean, the name of it is "Season of Discovery", how is anyone discovering anything when they spend 5 hours in the same spot from lvl 40 to 50?
I discovered I wasted a shit ton of time on SoD. I discovered p3 is not fun. I discovered I love retail after playing SoD.
I’ve yet to even step foot into an incursion but damn, ya’ll love milking the “discovery” part of the name as if information doesn’t spread like wildfire in this technological age.
Bad logic. Incursions is new content... After you discover anything, no matter how "new" it feels, and it would no longer fit your insane definition of "discovery" just because you do something multiple times doesn't mean it isn't something newly added to the game...
I enjoy incursions. They’re fun and fresh to me. Only issue I have is not being able to run lvl 50 incursions without having ST gear
I really wished they would just make questing in groups better. For example you don’t need to increase drop rates but just let us all pick up an item so everyone gets it at the same time. After a 5 man in shimmering flats doing like 6 quests in 3 hrs when ppl are spamming sm feels bad. Alternating drops on such a low drop % in the first place amongst 5 ppl sucks.
They should make Reputation account wide
A billion percent agree
Please, for the love of god, I hope they see this comment
No welcome to classic dont have alts if ur main is shit
I think something like if you hit exalted on your main, you can buy an account wide tabard that when you equip, you get 100%, maybe even 200% rep gains for that activity. Account wide rep feels a little too far for me personally, but something like the tabard could be a good middle ground where you still have to do the grind on alts, but it's significantly faster once you've done it once.
There is already so little to grind giving rep to everyone makes no sense to me
Phase 1 had more of a discovery feeling because things weren't datamined and were left to be found through actual gameplay.
The awkward moment when leveling a Cata character feels more like SoD than SoD. Everything is just so new, it’s like discovering WoW again
Agreed, Cata is just a better game at this point. No reason for SoD to exist imo. It's basically just copy/pasting some Cata spells/talents but executed poorly. Saw a funny post that SoD devs are just speedrunning all the same mistakes of the past 😂
Yeah the first month of a classic season is always inflated by the leveling and story experience. But a month from now cata will just be for the die hard nostalgia andy's and the rest of the servers dead again. WoW players been falling for this since the first cata when they started farming 2 year expacs.
Cata =/= SoD. Its New cuz u forgot. And i understand that feeling. But sod Phase 1 isnt going to come back and with the best Phase Releases sod Phase 1 feeling wouldnt come back. Its a Magic like Thing just be grad u Were there. Cata will lose its shine Soon enough and thats okay too
give it two weeks and you'll get tired of cata. guaranteed.
Weekly raid lockouts in p3 cut my fun in half, 20 man is not more fun, not having heroic dungeons in this phase was such a fail considering dungeons got reduced to wild offering spams. The only thing i discovered was a disappointing phase.
Casual friendly suggestions
-No need to farm universal runes on alts (Runes with the same questline)
-Remove world buffs from raids (pointless grind for casuals)
-Increase xp on quest in the world
-Boss difficulty is ok, but make trash easier to go through to speed things up, people don't have time or patient to wipe on trash, especially not while world buffs are essential
Man if you are really wipping on trash you are not a causal player youre a bad causal player.
No way people are wiping on trash lol
Who the hell is wiping on trash wtf
- Remove the 30 day trading restriction to actually make the game viable for new players. Solo self fund or only being able to receive items in trades is not casual friendly.
tbh idk if this is removed yet coz i stopped playing SOD as my first WoW experience and went to WOTLK cause no one wanted a mage who can't trade conjures.
World buffs shouldn't be essential. That's just tryhard sweatlord stuff.
As a "gamer dad" like i stated on one of my comments you showed before where i dont have time to do things, and i value my time a lot on what i want to do when i get off work. p3 and all the "grinds" you need to do in order to either max professions with money or farming the mats your self, farming emerald nm rep for exalted bis ring with people needing add on, and just roaming around competeing for tags on mobs, i hated it, and now i only log on to get buffs and raid. Nothing i WANT to do in SoD that is fun. Wild offerings is boring and i dont want to grind exalted on anything really unless its fun and i play casually and get it. To sit down and be like oh, you have to run this same thing 20 times to get to the next rank with no other way to do so is not how i want to spend my time gaming. Many and plenty of people who farm the rep no problem, and thinks its not bad, but they will also tell you they are not farming that same rep on another toon. P3 started off fine until you noticed that everything was a repeat grind fest that you bash your head into for bis. wild offerings, emerald rep, asv event, and pvp venders. (i personally hate pvp que only being able to start in city and it also teleports you back to city afterwards.) all personally opinion with some others feeling the same way.
As a dad I feel the same. I just wanna play the game and have some fun. Stale repeatable grinds are not things I want to spend my time on. Nor do I want to grind buffs and consumables just to Enter a raid with sweats. Thx but no thx
The QA department and customer service was one of the parts hit the hardest by the mass layoffs. I don't know if it was something that was set up from Bobby before he left or a Microsoft decision, but it was pretty much GUTTED and outsourced. It looks like the player base is paying for the actions of the higher ups once again.
Always happens like this
As someone who just jumped ship from Lava Lash, thank God the devs finally killed it.
If you didn't have a full guild that could raid, you were pretty fucked looking for table scraps.
Buddy and I left a couple of weeks before phase 3 started. It was awful. Especially if you are a late night player
@@michaelmohler5409 Even on Living Flame if you are a late night player it's dead unless it's near the start of a phase.
Came into SOD 1 week after P1 launch with an IRL buddy - most fun we ever had. Somewhat started to die down launch of P2, but we were still killing it during the cold winter months. When P3 dropped, we both tried to play for a day or until we realized the full-time grind-fest was about to begin and simply did not have enough hours to play (as opposed to someone playing 4+ hours/day). As someone who pushes charts, it feels quite discouraging having to do so many side missions in order to be competitive in damage. Also P3 leveling with Incursions killed the flavour for me, especially with people who rushed on day 1 and are forever ahead. They need to re-release SOD once this Season is done. Re-release it but open it up to level 60 and leave it be for 2+ years. That would be the WoW I play.
Respect to Skyy for going down with the ship.
Sod has my love and respect minimum until level 60. o7
The Timbermaw and Argent Dawn rep grinds.... getting 5 rep per kill on a seasonal server is so painful I have given up. Definitely not casual friendly.
If you’re a casual doing rep grinds you’re playing the game wrong. Why would a casual even bother since you’re getting nothing out of it apart from min max shit. Play the game and have fun
@@Drspoigsyou need some of the reps for attunements to get into raids
@@zdubzz1280 yes correct…..but you don’t need these this phase whatsoever. You need honoured to get into naxx isn’t it?
People farming these reps atm are doing so for recipes and that’s all. If you’re farming recipes you’re far from being a casual. Next phase the rep is much easier to get
I‘m on a pvp server and really done with sod for now, so depressed to do anything in open world
Valid point. I have been farming Arcane crystals for awhile and i can tell you that PvP is very broken. Some classes wont die (warlocks) and other just oneshot you (rogue). I have no idea what the dev's are thinking. Maybe the issue is they have no idea what to do about it. 100% not going to help to just slap some damage reduction on everyone.
I just Hope for fresh Era now.
I choose pve server in SoD because I learned this long time ago pvp server is only for trolls, this is not a sod problem but a old wow problem, where people think they want to play on pvp server
Sod dead due to lack of content
This game is 20 years old and u had to go to the pvp realm. U only got yourself to blame. The pvp its pros and cons are well known. Its not a sod problem.
@@SkornBB It's not a sod problem if I get hit by a mage with a frostfire bolt for 2.7k and die as a bis equipped feral in 1 sec? I think you missed the point…
"There is room for outplays for all classes" - Said by a shaman main.
Improvements for Modern and Casual players:
1. Remove all World buffs except raid one (single WB will be enough and help remove gatekeeping where you need to fight pain of collecting DMF and Flowers to join raid, especially on PvP realms)
2. Make more QoL - big examples: Instants account-wide mail, and class features like Mage food table, Lock HS well, Shaman weapon buff time (rly make it infinite - wouldn’t hurt anything)
3. Bring back 10 men raids with 3 days lockout.
4. Save economy… nah just a joke, after p3 nothing can and will save economy.
Keep in mind that players wanted 20 man to 40 man raids. So I am not suprised that guilds are having trouble filling them
I'm surprised there's absolute nothing for warriors. Specifically Protection Warriors!
As a Protection Warrior it's basically impossible keep AOE threat on trash mobs in raid, compared to for example a Shaman tank with still overtuned Lightning Shield.
Thunder Clap/Furious Thunder (rune) threat level is extremely bugged and can by no means be used to keep aggro on multiple mobs at once. Besides that Block Value is still bugged, when it comes to adding damage to Shield Slam...
#FixProtWar
So much for that -Make Warriors Less OP- meme, amirite brother warrior?! XD
Phase 1:
- BFD was fun and ez
- ashenvale didn’t require you to be good at PvP
- most PvP was a choice, 90% of your time was spent in uncontested areas
Phase 2/3
- Gnomer was hard if you didn’t have casters that knew what they were doing…made people that are new nervous about joining
- ST is very easy if people do a lot of damage. It’s less easy for groups with bad dps. Fights like avatar have mechanics where 1 slow player can wipe the whole raid.
If you’re someone that immediately says “SoD is causal”, you’re likely not a casual or new player.
Casual doesn't mean bad, bad players are a problem in general. Sorry but if you can't bother to learn the game to do your classes job it's just not the game for you.
@@jasonlefebvre1076 Casual doesn't mean bad, but it does mean you don't do as many reps as someone that lives within the game. So yes. casuals are, on average, bad at the game, by virtue of repetition, because they spend less time on improving.
On top of that, people are segregating themselves and separating the casual from the average midcore/hardcore player, leaving them even more behind. So now the bad player is even worse, because from having few reps, they now have no reps. NO DUH casuals are bad at the game. TF did you guys expect?
It boggles the mind how some of you are so up your own asses because you play the game more than others, then are surprised that the average player, that doesn't live and breathe the game, isn't that good.
If you are able to perform well without any repetition, you're not a new player, you're not a casual, you're midcore/hardcore player. Full stop.
@vtxshiva casuals aren't bad at the game, new players are but not all casuals are new players, I'm a dad of 5 kids I'm casual but I'm still a 99 parser when I do play. Casual doesn't equate to bad or a new player.
@@vtxshiva your mistaking casual for a new player a veteran player can be a casual and know how to play.
@@jasonlefebvre1076 I'm kind of tired of this idea that a "casual" is someone that 'only plays a few hours". No that's not what a casual is. It's someone that CASUALLY jumps in and jumps out and doesn't "game" the game.
If you're a 99parser you're NOT casual. You're as hardcore as they come.
You spent time refining your rotation, you read guides, you min-max gear, your time, your spec, etc. by doing extra things that aren't specifically exploring and playing the game. You probably have more time spent studying how to play WoW than most people spend time gaming altogether. And that's not even taking into account the months and years of accumulated experience.
I wouldn't dare call myself casual just because I play
The reductions don’t really work for all classes, being a mage is pretty difficult at them moment
lmao
If there was more focus on 5-man dungeon, I would play SOD. It’s a easy way to relax with friends. The rest of SOD seems to be about 20-raids. That’s way I stopped playing.
I think it is casual friendly from a main character perspective, not as much from an alt perspective. P3 incursions in practicality killed a lot of the world for me and the weekly lockout from ST makes me raid log. I'm spending more time playing Neverwinter Nights (Im having the time of my life by the way over there) than WoW currently. I also miss playing with my guild cause of the world not really meaning much, again due to incursions.
I never done Incursion on my main or alt on purpose. So it is up to you if you wanna do it or not. I never been dungeon spamming either. I barley done any dungeons in SoD. No SM, no Uldaman, no rfk, no Marudon, no dead mine. I mostly do questing and open World PvP.
@@RandySnarsh regardless if you want to or not there is a rep grind associated and a lot of us have a BiS that requires exalted
Question for Chaos Bolt. Where you locked before or after P3.... and if before.... did Blizz lock you at P2, or advance your realm to P3?
For Affliction Warlock: I like some of the recent buffs/runes they have gotten but I feel like if they can add a rune to make Corruption and AoE ability that would make it a lot better. That combined to Pandemic could do some nasty damage
If they do this again they need to make new reps account wide, shared rune quests account wide, and have a focus on playing multiple characters. Thats what casuals want imo.
Saber slash rogue could use another buff it’s still weak compared to mutilate.. would love to use swords again on my rogue
I am a mediocre parsing Warrior and I’ve had zero issues getting invites to pug ST raids. Now I did have a few weeks of guild logs before trying to get into a pug.
It's not just you. A lot of guilds struggle keeping 20 ran rosters or are resisting and staying with 10 and pugging the rest. Guilds need to merge, but it's an ego thing. In the meantime, it's easy to find a raid as a pug - even more so if you're the type that reaches out because chances are you're trying.
@@RonOnTheWay They struggle cuz the officers are lazy.
nothing better than coming home and seeing a new sod update. coffee in hand
Having a blast in SOD. Blood Guard and clearing the raid, playing with friends, helping guildies. There's a few problems but there is a lot more fun than problems to focus on.
The main issue is the playerbase. You can remove world buffs and stuff and the players will find another way to gatekeep their raids. The big problem is that almost everyone wants to play speedrun meta and just raidlog.
Not sure where to start but i guess a small bio could be a start just to point out i have alot of exp in wow and i believe my opinion will be helpful but many people wont like it, BE AWARE english is not my mother language, so im sorry if something sounds rude or patronizing or if it causes any inconvinience.
Short bio (Not flexing. i just trying to point out i have some exp im not some random guy posting nonsence ,crying or w/e)
Im playing WoW almost since launch,(patch 1.3)
TOP 1% in Mythic+ in dragonflight
I have multiple curves on retail some avg logs, and some epic
On classic i have like epic/legendary logs
On SoD i have epic logs
I Play MM HUNTER since "launch" not matter how weak/strong he is.
My PvP expirience is 2k hunter on arena(Solo/3v3) and RBG. Holy Pala also around 2k but only arena.
I can provide Armory link and screenshots upon request.
So lets get to the juicy part.
Lets start withPvE first i guess.
Classic is all about playing with friends. You also said it yourself you had soo much fun playing with friends doing simple dungeons or farming or w/e. The hard part is managing 40-60 people.
I was saying to everybody since BFD that this raid/content is TOO HARD(mainly last 2 boss) for Classic.
If you want challenging content you can just play retail.
Even since Gnome raid people where checking logs and consumes.I strongly believe thats because of what i said at the start(last 2 boss are too hard) and people dont just wanna go and kill 4 bosses and then disban the raid because they cant progress further.
Only possible solution i see is lockout per boss like in retail so the next day or after 2-3 days you can try again with a different group.
About class perfomance all i have to say is simply all classes should NOT be able to perform at the same level on all roles when they can play all three roles.Whats the point of playing hunter/rogue if you can just play shamman and be a good at dps/tank/ healer while also providing your group with GAMEBREAKING "buffs" totems(tremor, windfurry, poison cleancing just to name a few). Also makes it almost imposible to balance in PVP which i believe is also the current PvP situation. (for example restokin(mainly balance druid but have acces to swiftment. and holy+prot pala. if i remember correctly these specs where very powerfull during cataclysm).
Now i wanna talk about PvP but i dont know where to start.
I guess we start back in the day of vanilla/classic. Almost everyone can oneshot everyone or outplay them soo hard thats like oneshot anyway. you can search for the following videos and see that.
1. Unbreakable Warlord Shaman WoW PvP Ragnaros Sulfuras
2. Pat PvP - Incredible Warrior PvP Movie
3. Thunterfury - Thunderfury Vanilla Melee Hunter PVP
4. R E C K O N I N G | Classic Era Paladin PvP
I kinda agree though that this playstyle is not very healthy for the game and it should be improved. The 2nd pvp ressistance(-30dmg -20heal) felt like a nice start.
Last but not least i want to say my opinion about marksmanship hunter damage than you mentioned.
MM hunter is something some people call Artilery Dps ofcourse it will blow you up if let him "freecast".
Also its the only class that has "dead-range" i dont know why i shouldnt be allowed to shot players directly in the face with my gun while they are 5yard away from me, i should be rewarded with extra crit chance instead!
I would like to also mention that dead-range was instantly removed as a mechanic in TBC. Im guessing because it wasnt very fun and interactive.
I kinda aggree that our dmg is kinda high. BUT Hunters in general have ZERO defencive cooldown(for example shield wall, divine shield, blessing or protection.evasion, despresion, pain suppresison) in their kit.
ZERO movement cooldowns(for example freedom, sprint, blink, shadowstep, travel form). You can argue that we have cheetah but you get dazed if hit so its not that good in fights.
ZERO heal- selfheal or shields also!
The Only usefull thing we have is traps but they cant be used in combat unless you use the rune and even with the rune its not the most reliable CC since its not targetable like sheep or fear and also not spamable like sheep or fear.
ZERO utility like "Stun", interupt, dispell, decurse, purge. Concusive shot have 20% chance to stun for the cost of 5 talents..... and scater shot that is basicaly a mini-blind requires a talent.
Last Last thing i like to add is that alot of people are spamming Free Action potions making almost imposimble for hunter to play at all or at high effectiveness.(small story: i also used like 100FAPs in 2days so i can just be able to play the game)
I hope that you can now see that damage is totatly the only thing MM hunter has and he should be respected/feared for it, something like POM PYRO Mage for example.
Speaking for class and spec fantasy, they need to revamp runes heading into P4. I main warlock and my ideas is simple:
Affliction/Demo/Destro would all have their own runes in each slot. Runes would synergize with each other (the more you have the more it strengthens your spec).
Runes would get stronger based on the number of talent points you have in your tree (Demo is the tank tree).
Examples/Ideas:
UA - guarantees crits for all dots currently on the target if you also have the 30 talent points in Affliction
Immolation aura - only usable in meta form, increases healing received by 15%, burns targets in a 5 years range for X damage (based on Spell Damage) and lowers their spell resistance. Must have 30 points in Demo tree.
Felguard - Destro let. increases crit % and crit damage if CB rune is equipped. Must have 30 points in Destro.
The comment about log checking is spot on. This week will be the first raid lockout I miss in SoD as I've decided to stop raiding this phase. I'm not a scrub, I hit multiple rank one parses when I played TBC but I stopped playing because it was too stressful to keep up with. I came back to sod hoping the culture would be more laid back. I was mistaken. And don't get me started on trying to play an alt.
I can’t find five people to rep grind Emerald rep, they could fix this by tabards to wear dungeon running. We’re about to ST (yes, yes, we’re causal) and we won’t go geared or potted at first. The 20 man slowed us down, we are a tight small guild, the grind for mats or gold to gather pots, too high. Those things could be fixed by scaling it for raid size, and allowing us to gather pots in a different way, like give us guild banks and a guild quest to access pots via guild activity tokens?
Right now. These are just Fillers non-essential but for raid comforts: They are also added to be considered "INCLUSIVE"
Mages : provide water. food intel buff and portal AFTER the raid.
Warlock :Summon provider and SS for tanks.
Shadow Priest : homunculus provider because warriors are too lazy to sunder. to dispel Boss if required.
BTW. with the 7 Day lock out. makes the Gatekeeping even worst.
By boosting the arcane mage you increase healing by them as well with temporal beacon. As much as I would like to see that spec deal more damage, I feel for the class development team on trying to reach a happy median. I do not see changes coming to arcane mage increasing dps until the following phase.
I've been behind since P2. P2 went by so quick and I wasn't even halfway done with what I needed to do on my main let alone any of my alts. Casuals are SOL in SOD.
two EZ suggestions for Affliction/Shadow Warlocks: Combine the Demonic Grace and Pandemic Runes (into the head slot) and remove the global CD from the on-use Demonic Grace effect, increase the cooldown to 30s. Similarly combine the Demonic Pact and Everlasting Affliction Runes into the leg slot so we don't have to choose between being a support vs using a core spec ability (like everlasting affliciton). These two changes would make affliction more viable, fun and more prevalent in raids providing that excellent support utility
Yes please!
I used to play on Chaosbolt and had a great time there. Made ton of friends. Had high social rep. I think its hard to imagine how it is when you never played there.
In phase 1 we even had a few "Server Warchiefs" basically people that when they called horde to arms, people answered the call with "FOR THE WARCHIEF!!!"
Now on Crusader strike ....
1)Felt like 90% of people I encountered were narcissistic douchebags that treat other players like NPCs, not like human beings.
2) Your value as a player is based on your parses and if your class can oneshot or heal in pvp.
3) Bloodmoon is unplayable because of lag.
4) Raid class stacking is a common thing - not an exception for Guilds that try to go for rank 1
I typically parsed around 75-95 but unless I am trying to go for rank 1 parse or speedrun, bring the player not the class.
Even the "casual" guilds that take 2+ hours to clear ST are somehow are infected by the min/max meta on Crusader strike.
Long story short, I quit a few weeks after transferring.
I feel you. Came from lava lash to wild growth and the meta on the server is instantly noticable. Where Lava Lash was cozy and players knew each other also didnt tryhard or gatekeep content on the new server its the oppositie sadly. Im really not waiting for nolifers gatekeeping content, just play the effin game and have fun. Needless to say I quite.
Well said, reason I quit 2 weeks ago, enjoying Cata much more
You seem very confused with the term "class stacking" and "balanced raid comp"... Class stacking would be stacking 25 warriors in a 40 man raid.... It's a common thing because buffs actually matter.
@@rommulus Delusional if you think Cata stopped anything he said.
So far so good,😅
Loved SOD up until P3. Got my Boomy and Hunter Pre-BIS and didn't even want to do ST. Did ST a few times and didn't want to go back. Will probably check out P4, but for now I'm going to try out Cata. I quit during WOTLK back in the day. So i'm kinda pumped to actually give it a try this time around.
Balanced druids seem to be nature based casters, yet they only have two main abilities that deal nature damage. For example, most know that moonfire, starsurge, and starfall do arcane damage yet all I cast is mostly wrath and sunfire with starsurge on cool down. Just hoping phase 4 helps this spec out
I really miss the premade pvp in phase 1. It had its problems, but it was the most fun I had in SoD PvP - and was the last time I routinely engaged with people outside of my guild.
Just wanted to say that Elemental Shaman finally feels like it’s in a good spot for PvE. The buff to Burn was incredible and put us in a great spot.
I am still having an absolute blast in SoD! If I could change one thing, it would be a slight adjustment to the Rune system. Now I only play a Druid and I main Feral/OT so I'm not really sure if it would break other classes but the change I would like to see is for all added spells/skills to become Books and Runes to only be Modifiers to said Books or existing spells/skills. It feels like it railroads you into one play style instead of incentivizing ingenuity. In PvP it sucks having to choose between Mangle, Sunfire and Skull Bash! I would be fine with a slight reduction in the spells/skills power and then choosing between Runes that modify the spells/skills rather than what feels like losing a piece of what should be a base kit. I feel like this would not only reward off Meta playstyles but also spice things up because your rotation now has options instead of the same 5 spell/skill rotation. I would love to hear other's opinions on this. Thanks for the great content as always!
I always thought the Arcane Mage was the healing spec of SOD so it's very tricky to balance them in a DPS format without making them too strong. I don't play Mage so I could be wrong, but my assumption was that it would be like be Holy priest damage numbers in raids are too low. Again, my understanding could be completely wrong but that is always how it felt or at least what I thought they were going for.
Had fun raiding with the comeback kids on Friday. sky makes good calls and it was fairly organized, so if you are rolling solo or in a dying guild i would definitely recommend them. incursions really should be limited to x per day. the open world feels pretty dead at times now and literally nothing else gets you gold as fast as incursions.
🐐
Hes on EU or US?
Put an NPC at the entrance of each Raid that buffs you with all the relevant World Buffs at the cost of say….1 Chronoboon.
8:30 See, and this is a great point. This is what the devs fail to comprehend: in SoD, they're essentially building new specs. We don't want super hard content to learn how to best play with the new runes and how they interact with talents, etc. We want content that is easy to clear and we can easily compare how one build worked against another. That means low RNG, low individual responsibility mechanics, and content that is clearable by the MIDDLE 80%, not catered to the top or bottom 10%. They have once again allowed the parse-monkeys and the hardcoriest of players to dictate the content and difficulty and that is death for the WoW playerbase, no matter what version or expansion you're designing for.
Save the hard content for level 60 when we have all our runes and we have a few level 60 raids under our belts. *THAT* is where it belongs. The endgame - the same place it always has.
To touch on a few parts of the video: I do think SoD is more casual friendly and should be that way. The balancing act the dev team have had to work with in this is creating a modernized classic experience which is more difficult than a lot of people realize. A few things to consider is with the casual vs hardcore set up as well as a people who focuses mostly on one character vs someone who has 3+ characters is there will always be a fundamental disconnect. The hardcore people want difficult large scale content they can blast through. Casuals want bite sized content they can enjoy in their own time. Another thing to remember is that back in the original game, raids weren't really competitive. The idea of world first didn't even really start until AQ40. That said, we can't turn back the clock but it should be considered that to appeal to the largest group of players, some of the more casual people will not be able to complete everything and some of the more hardcore people will run out of things to do.
With that, here's a suggestion, Sunken Temple is massive, almost to big. For new raids, make the raid smaller but release 2 at a time. 2 smaller raids with 3-5 bosses each, the raids can even have different tiers of loot or have one be easier than the other. This would allow for people to more easily clear a full raid in a single night and would also encourage 2 raid nights a week instead of the one with weekly resets.
Another suggestion, create a Bind on Account rep increase trinket/token for alt characters. Doing a rep grind on one character is a tough thing to do, completely removing the grind for other characters I think is a little to much, but a trinket to double rep gains for alts. Seems like a fair in-between.
Lastly I'm a Warlock main so here's my suggestion for Affliction Warlock. The spec has 2 major issues - DPS per mana spent and our GCD just causing us to be unable to cast quick enough. Here are the fixes for it. In WOTLK Death Knights have Pestilence, this spreads their DoTs to all targets within 10 yards. Give this to Affliction Warlocks. This will not affect pvp much as 10 yards is short range. It will fix the mana issue because we will not have to cast 4+ DoTs per target. It will simply allow the spec to play more fluidly. If not that - create a rune, or change one, to cause Affliction abilities to have a shorter GCD so we can cast more quickly. This will at least allow us to cycle through targets and get to casting Shadow Bolt or other moves more quickly.
a fun thing will be to also have bunch of world bosses/events where the horde and aliance can skirmish. one every 2-3 day and in different time slots and these to give some rep, some crafting recipies etc... Then WPVP is more meaningful
Arcane mage needs raid utility like raidwide damage % increase + spellsurge should be more akin to the retail version /w longer mana regen after using + spell power bonus after use. combine that with longer arcane charge stacks + some sort of spell cast speed reduction with each stack would put arcane mage in a decent position. With all the extra damage, arcane mage healing needs to be less effective from the damage done.
holypala: I would like to see some healing synergies with holy shock. Something like holy shock on a target with sacred shield active spreads the shield or hot and reduces the cooldown by 90%. The introduced hots through sacred shield and sheath should work with beacon of light.
I also think that the holy paladins should benefits more from swinging their weapon ("The Light and How to Swing It
") ;). Through Seals/judged targets or (maybe combined with) exorzism? Maybe also refresh the active hots /active shield.
Phase 3 made me feel like casual friendly kinda went out the window at first. But after a few weeks it chilled out imo.
How do arcane mages compare to other healers doing damage though?
Good I'm glad they are doing dedicated PvP gear. Good job y'all!
the problem is not the trash in sunken temple. the problem is the 20 man raid.
This. It was a 5 man dungeon, somehow they made it in to a 20 man. Should have been 10 man. And downgrade the 40 man raids in to 20 man
Totally agree. Making it 20 man and on a week long lockout killed raiding for a lot of people. I see constant lfg posts of raid leads looking for people who want to come into a 6 of 8 cleared raid because the people who started it can't come but one day a week. It's stupid.
@@hansthienpont5328 id go further and say make every SOD raid 10 man including the 40s. 20s combined with 7 day lockouts really killed it
The trash is definitely a part of the problem.
Facts.
Great Ideas for Arcane mage!
Its kinda fun to see how you can find meaningful changes to a spec so easy, blizzard just refuses to do anything about it. It seems so easy 😅
I want to say that the Horde bias is crazy. It feels they have two goals for SoD; 1. Make Horde better then Alliance. 2. Nerf warriors.
Phase 2 showed some of this with Shamans being crazy OP and now they are still great compared to Ret pala.
I just Hope for fresh Era now. If they can make GDKP bannable and not touch anything else , it would be great. I dont trust them to do anything at this point. Im not sure if the devs are just not qualified or if they are not allowed to do good and meaningful changes. It seems they focus on making classes they play themselves more fun and forget other classes like shadow Priests, arcane mage and ret pala.
And if they now go back on the statment they made about making every class as good as warrior and to not nerf warrior, I will quit. 👋
Hi there sky, nice video. Im a big warrior player and wanted to call out the deep wounds talent isnt functioning like it did in classic wow, in Sod it is scaling like it does in Wrath of the Lich king. They were talking about normalising rage but thats gonna butcher the class entirely. i feel like if they revert the deep wounds to not stack up like in wrath it would warriors in a good spot for next phase onward.
I loved the PvP this weekend . Played ab all weekend
Ele sham btw
Phase 3 includes rep grind, tons of gold grind because raid consumes are expensive, casual raids can still take 3 hours.
A lot of friends and guildies have quit during this phase because it’s less fun.
Sunken temple is fun but less trash would be awesome, maybe even 2x a week raids. Weekly lockouts goes back to raid logging and less interactions.
Dungeons are boring and not worth it besides doing Mara for your BoeD dagger
Strange when you listed all the Cata pre-patch issues I havent encounter any of them. As for the battlegrounds insane leveling I belive that was only in vaiable in the first hours after that they pulled the plug. IMO they could of keep the 50% xp buff would of been awesome. Not sure if its just me but its not that bad as you describe it :)
20-man raids have been hard on my guild we have to fill 9 spots give or take every week, we clear 6/8 but dont have the through power of geared guildes to push through, every week we essentially give a large majority of gear to randos we will never see again.
why dont you just... recruit the pugs?
Sod is casual friendly, i think people just feel like they NEED to rush to endgame. The most fun ive had with alts is leveling normally through quests and getting runes. I have my main to push the end game, alts are a way to take your time.
Also, im usually a diehard rogue player, but the cata beta has allowed me to make max level 85 characters and made me realize i like hunter. Now, in sod, im leveling a new hunter for fun because a lot of talents that make cata hunter fun are in sod
My frostfire bolt crits for almost the same amount as arcane surge and it doesn’t dump all my mana.
Seems still pretty casual friendly. But it does not seem as ALT friendly.
One of the main issues I think is Sunken Temple in general. There's too much gatekeeping as you said. I think one way to alleviate this is by reducing the barrier the entry. Keep the World buff from the raid, but get rid of the rest, make flasks/potions etc not stackable. Make alt's automatically learn flight paths, possibly have runes that have the same quest etc.
ST is nice because it has some difficulty, its great in my guild runs where everyone is competent. But trying to pug it is an absolute nightmare. I feel like you can't nerf it again, but going forward this might be something for the devs to keep in mind.
It is casual friendly, I leveled up a new character 1-50 in 2 weeks. From 40-50 I got honored doing incursions and i bought all the gear from them then a couple dungeons for weapon and accesories and did my frist ST raid no problem, now im focusing on my professions and pvp so by the time this patch ends I will be on pair to everyone else.
From the perspective of a new player it is a phase 1 to me and im enjoying it
I am new to wow with sod. Phase 1 I was in a super casual guild and had a lot of fun. Phase 2 I realized that as these raids progressed casual guilds made raiding miserable and my schedule changed so I ended up pugging a lot. Phase 2 taught me that if you don’t check peoples logs you WILL spend 2-3 hours in the raid and not kill the final boss. I went 2 weeks in the middle of the phase without clearing. Found a new guild for phase 3 and we are pumping as fuck I’m having more fun in raid and clearing ST in under an hour. This is really just a mass of players that realized that bad players make the game significantly harder for everyone else in the party.
This is pretty much exactly true. I suspect people who say everything is really easy play with decent groups of people, or check logs before forming their raids. Try playing in pugs that don’t do any sort of log checking. It is a much much different experience in phase 3. I raid in both contexts and the difference is day and night.
The gap in skill level between beginner/casual and sweaty has become vastly larger from Vanilla WOW to SOD classic. So, how do devs solve this issue of appealing to both audiences? I honestly don’t know it seems like a nightmare to me lol
Additionally, this channel’s audience is naturally very skewed. Beginners/casuals won’t be watching these videos to begin with. So asking if SOD is casual friendly won’t get you truly representative feedback from the casual audience
There should be different raid sizes of the raid awarding more loot. So if you want to 10 man it’s easy and everyone gets a few pieces but if you 40 man you get like 6-8 pieces per player and maybe more gold to compensate for the time it takes.
I disagree with just the last part. It's not really bad players, it's inconsiderate players. I run my raid and we have quite a few 'bad players' with low parses but they listen to criticism, join disc, and do mechanics while gray/green parsing. I can trust them more than anyone else to show up though.
ya i always compare it to doing a group project. people who dont put in effort just trying to benefit off everyone else's hard work. then they wonder why no one want to let them in on he next group project.
Not saying this is happening in your raids, but a lot of raids determine who is good and who is bad by how many mechanics they can ignore if they have pumpers in the group as opposed to having to do them because some of the people are under geared, or just not as geared. Many raids want those parses and if someone in the group is causing them to have to do mechanics instead of DPS, they blame the lesser geared person instead of themselves for not doing mechanics.
1 thing i would like added for alts is account wide flight paths. So draining running every alt around the world to get runes instead of just flying.
- Make runes easily obtainable for all alts outside of the main
- Introduce a built in explanation by Blizzard of boss mechanics before the fights in raids (1 min each) (all players would have to agree to skip it if we want to skip that)
- Arcane mage needs a lot of love
- Stop buffing shamans (they can 1 shot in melee and cast specs, they can tank, they can heal, they have lots of utility and mobility, stop buffing them)
There is no way a 20 man raid is casual friendly. Without one person spending a bunch of time wrangling cats to ensure everyone shows up and having potential backup folk, it's a pain in the butt.
"Casual Friendly" doesn't mean alt friendly. I am not sure how many people agree with your claims. It takes no time to hit 50. Very easy to get good gear to jump into raid (with Nightmare Incursion set). The only point I agree with is Rune quests are hard to find people for after the first bit of a phase.
Pvp ranking system ?
SoD is super casual friendly. the problem begins where people confuse casualness with with player skill. 2 different things that are often spoken as the same.
Also: ST doesnt have much trash at all, other then the start prior to the first boss, you clear the raid within an hour.
Yeah i am just logging in once a week now for ST and that may stop soon. Just nothing for me to do in SOD that excites me. Hell even one of our guild leaders just bailed and so many are following.
1 week raid reset, 20 man raid, repeatable quest to lvl 50. All does make me quite so fast. Phase 3 is terrible and too much shit are unbalance now.
incusions is the bigest mistake.
Phases are so fast it’s like it doesn’t matter
Yeah, I don't have alot of motivation to play my mage, might need to re-roll :o
I think if you remove the world buffs and give an easier access to runes that you have already done. Maybe a vendor that unlocks account wide after doing quests like the dark riders or making the commerce exchange rep account wide it will be fine
Suggestion for Ret Pal to allow more flexibility:
Add Divine Storm to the Art of War rune, so both Exorcism and Divine Storm cooldowns reset on proc. This would allow the use of slower 2H weapons and casting 2 abilities between swings instead of 1 and would promote usage of Seal of Command again. Would even possibly appease the twisters.
I'm guessing the pvp aura doesn't work in all zones; It's frustrating to get 1-2 shot just trying to farm stuff for raiding or while doing incursions.
The pvp changes are fine. People were bitching about the magic damage reduction, but casters still hit like a truck. Shadow priest crits me for 1100. It's insane.
arcane mage is healer spec?
As of phase 3 SOD May 6 2024 Scarshield Quartermaster does not drop quest item
Time to gank skyy in the open world >:) just kidding, i've been playing cata (leveling goblin) because SoD is just a chore. plus i've never really liked Sunken Temple anyways, and they made the things i dislike about it even more exasperated. I'll come back when level 60 cap and Karazhan Crypts come out
Enhancement 2h playstyle suggestion: 2h playstyle could be made more viable for PvE and PvP with a simple change. Make lavalash usable with 2h as well. It could simply give one additional strike at 150% weapon damage. It would provide an additional chance to proc windfury, and we wouldn't be forced to use Lavaburst on our hand rune slot. It would feel better not having to use lavaburst as a melee build.
what makes it hard for casuals or getting alts is once ppl get what they need , grind rep do incursions, alot stop, and cause they gate behind group content, and few groups are activly doing it, it puts a sour note for anyone wanting to get an alto up unless they have a static that will carry them, 20 man was fun but the 10 man raiding twice a week was more fun imo. crafting behind some overcomplicated quest line and forcing folks into raids or instances is what kills it for casuals, esp since there is no group finder.
We counted on 40 people in 2005 for MC, BWL, Etc. Without discord sign ups soooo...
i was a raid leader and it was shit.
and it was shit. 10 mans are the way
You asked for suggestions:
Rogue is exactly where it needs to be with mutilate, don't touch it!!!
Saber slash needs buffed, maybe on refreshing bleed (once at full stacks) it does full bleed dmg of 1 sack, or at full bleed stacks you also debuff the target to lower attack speed, accuracy, increase hit chance for all targets attacking, and cast speed as long as remain bleeding
Shadowstrike should scale off backstab and apply hemo debuff (if hemo is learned), not require stealth but increase damage if used while stealth.
Main Gauche, needs the cd taken away, still nowhere near viable enough, buff stack 3x, and parries automatically prompt use of a Riposte if talent is known (puts Riposte on cd automatic Riposte do not proc any reflect damage or effects if target has them active)
New druid Rune ! Rabid Bear Form / acts like a fury warrior, Bears are deadly deadly creatures, dont just make Them Meatshields
i think sod has been casual as f throughout and I enjoyed every phase so far
that doesn't mean I stick around after a month of release but I just do what I can in 1 month time, pretty much getting BIS and then dropping it again for a few months till the next phase hits
i really don't see the problem, I have had a ton of fun and it didn't feel too sweaty
and sunken temple wasn't hard at all, i really dont get why people are crying about it
it was the first 'real' raid experience and actual solid mechanics
st is way too easy to be a weekly lockout
should have been 3 day lockout or keep it un-nerfed so people can do progression
I think the leveling experience sucks in SoD, anyone who was leveling like me quit. There was no one to do dungeons with, I got PvPed to death trying to do NM incursions, and I couldn't find anyone to do the runes. My only option was solo levelling and it sucked... I got PvPed to death there too. It also sucks I cant make a horde after having a lvl50 paladin.
I think SOD would be more causal friendly if everything was made account wide and not based on your individual characters. The rep grinds, runes, and PvP grinding is obnoxious if you have more than a few characters. What I loved about P1 is you could easily level to 25 in a day at most and be pre-raid ready in 2 days max. Now, I have to spend 100’s of gold on consumes, farm rep, grind PvP events across all my alts and it’s just brain numbing at this point.
Remember; Aggrend said that the majority of class balalance, and changes will be coming out P4 and after.
That's not good enough. They are losing players TODAY, not in this (at this point) hypothetical P4. They need to stop the bleeding NOW.
“We will fix it when nobody is left playing it!”
Well let's hope that they are giving a moment for Cata to build a following before dropping. P4. Should be pretty soon.
I still think feral druids could use predatory swiftness for some survivability when kitty-ing about. :x
Have a $5 boost where you can boost an Alt to the prior phase level cap, which comes with all the runes up to that point included. This would help and $5 is not breaking the bank.
Mage definitely feels bad right now, on high movement fights. Trying to cast a 3sec Frostfire Bolt just feels bad, a small adjustment making Frostfire Bolt benefit from either talents (but not stack) Imp Fireball / Imp Frostbolt reducing cast time by 0.5sec would be a game changer!
Would love for bear druids to be able to benefit from WF totems or wild strikes from other feral druids, so we can actually use the mitigation rune
As a PvP warrior main, I am really looking forward for warrior buffs regarding mobility + new skills in PvP. Other melee classes and specially caster specs are dealing tons of damage while warriors are lacking sooo much mobility that it is barely possible to play in BGs against ranged groups. Please make a shout on this and thx for your vids! :)
SoD is NOT casual or Alt friendly. The raids keep getting longer, harder and needing more prep each week. On top of the Incursions created a huge economy inflation which completely undid and progress they made fighting bots and banning GDKP..... Like wtf is going on...
The raids are in a bit longer - 30 min to 45 min. How much prep do you really need? It's not even all that hard, it's that people want to go in and just kill bosses pulling single digit parses and not even watching a 2 min run down.
Blizzard made some bad decisions, but some of this is coming down to terrible habits among players. Casual doesn't mean "bad".
@@RonOnTheWay You are correct, casual doesn't mean "bad", but being bad means you are bad. Even if you are casually gaming you can perform exceptionally well, that is not the case too often tho.
Bro the raids don't take that long like an hour maybe hour and a half thats pretty casual, the only prep you need is buying consumes or maybe getting buffs that drop every 20 mins almost zero prep time.
It's still casual friendly unless you can only play 5 minutes a day
Sounds like you are just bad or an mmo is not the game for you. raidlogging in this phase is 1,5 hours tops ONCA a week. so alts are easy as fuck too
Agree with needing to make it more casual. For example, certain rooms that have longer quest. I think that done once should unlock it for your other characters, such as dark riders. Also, agree with the raid having much less trash and a lower bird entry is way more appealing. Both of my brothers stop playing because it just felt like it was too much once no more gun hit. I’m sure there are many other casual players who straight up, quit because of the barrier to entry
I think how friendly it is depends on your guild. My guild logs, but we haven't kicked anyone for parsing gray or green. I refuse to pug pretty much anything though, I have had almost nothing but toxic interactions with pugs at the end of P2 and beginning of P3.
i agree 100%. Phase 1 was casual friendly and i loved it. In this phase all i have had time to do is to farm wild offerings, which sucked.
