If you have never built engines in your life before, you will never know the exhilaration that is felt when the newborn engine fires up and runs sweetly. It is a feeling that defies explanation, and gives great joy.
If you have ever repaired anything in your life, when your successful it feels like winning a battle aginst the evil forces that would otherwise take your hard earned money to buy another piece of disposable junk. If we stopped making crap - products and instead they were built to be repaired that would solve half of the global warming crisis
That is true my friend
Yup 👍
Absolute bliss is the word.
But when u see this, u realise, how technology will soon make these redundant.
You nailed it👍
In the world of replacement engineering, repairing is great. Thanks for this eductive video!!
I have pulled an engine with block and tackle using a shade tree, and then rebuilt it on the kitchen floor before reinstalling it. I am impressed. These guys did a good job, with what they had.
Interesting comment! I have a good friend that said they took engines apart in their kitchen when he was a kid. That's the way they learned. 606ByGawdKentucky
To all the people working to rebuild the Truck diesel, you are all fantastic, you work together as one and produce a great diesel. I have the greatest respect for you all.
It's a pleasure to see an engine carefully put together by mechanics who find doing a good job important.
Great. My sincere appreciation for all the men who was engaged in the restoration work. Wish all of them good luck in their future endeavors
Normally on videos like this I’d have complaints about improper fixes and unsafe practices but I wouldn’t have done anything different in this case. Great video
sure.. you would have bored, honed and put new pistons in there .. instead of putting the same crappy old ones back in the original bores.
@@KrustyKlown It looked to me as if they put new liners in but reused the pistons (new rings!). All I know is it looks like I have severely over-spent on torque wrenches...
I'd wear some gloves.
@@gjsmotos nothing wrong with old pistons if the rods are not bend. New rings and liners are good enough
That's exactly what I was going to say. Damn good job.
I love these videos. I am obsessed by them - the sheer skill and ingenuity. Well done, gentlemen.
They are not ingenious enough to build a table to work on.
@@gordonwelcher9598 lol you look for anything to hate on
And I’m stressing out about replacing a new loaded head and head gasket on a Toyota 22re( considered easy). Thanks for the encouragement from North Carolina U.S.A. Much respect!!!
Be sure that the timing chain is good. Many head gaskets were changed due to the chain being loose and wearing a hole in the front cover. Don’t ask how I know
22re is easy to work on. Me and a buddy changed pistons and rings in just over an hour with the engine still in the car lol!
I remember learning about torque sequences and progressing up to full torque and all that then going to a place with real certified mechanics and watching them put heads on with air impact wrench going across from one side to the other.
Makes you wonder if anyone other than yourself tries to do it right.
@@michaelszczys8316 Real certified mechanics? what's that? I got my ASE and I build cabinets for a living. Just about any ding dong can pass that test. Sure proper tourqe is ideal, but all the ugga duggas has worked just fine for countless mechanics. Plus half the morons never even calibrate their torque wrenches, thus making them fancy breaker bars.
all the mechanics impress me with this engine rebuild on how much knowledge they have and do this work with limited tools that make the job easier great job to all of you.
The point is THEY DON"T HAVE KNOWLEDGE. They leave out critical details that make a big difference.
@@x-man5056 I didn't see any critical details left out.
@@bingosunnoon9341 Then you are no engine builder.
@@x-man5056 Thanks
@@bingosunnoon9341
1. Rod and main bearing caps should be marked so that they go back in the same position facing the same way. Pistons if being reused and Rods also. This is CRITICAL.
2. Never use a hard face hammer on engine internals (or ANY hardened steel surface). Use a brass or other soft face hammer.
3. When using new rings and new cylinder sleeves you must still measure ring gaps before reassembly. Fail. New cylinder sleeves need a light hone to seat rings. Ring gap must be measured after the hone.
4. The piston skirts should be oiled for assembly into the engine also. Place a short piece of rubber hose over connecting rod studs before inserting piston/rod assemblies into cylinders to avoid gouging cylinder walls and crankshaft machined surfaces.
5. Head should be installed on block and torqued BEFORE bolting exhaust or intake manifolds to the head! This is basic. They may make great hand holds but you risk warping the head when you torque it down, (I guarantee you the old exhaust manifold is NOT flat and strait). Don't do that.
6. use ONLY silicon grease or motor oil on engine rubber O-ring type gaskets, NO SILICONE SEALANT.
It pains me to see the abyss of inequality in this world, but gives me pride to see how devoted, knowledgeable and hard working these honest folks are!
All brought to you by oppressive governments

More amazing skill from these machinists. I remember when we used to have skilled people like this in America.
Now everything is gone. But we have Walmart now.
Don't even mention me those Walmart"technicians"
They can't even do a simple tire replacement.
I made the mistake of getting a tire from them and it took them 2hrs and managed to break my interior door handle which they (and their manager) had enough audacity and claim it was like that when I dropped off the car.
I even explain that If it was like that how tha hell did I open the door from the inside when I parked ( there is video evidence from their security cameras. But they basically told me that no matter what they weren't going to pay.
We have parts changers, very few mechanics. 9/10 couldn't diagnose needing a oil change.
I have to love these guys. First they work in the dirt. I work in a very clean environment I'm meticulous these guys are out there in the start period second of all when I work on my stuff I put on my coveralls I wear my rubber gloves these guys are wearing cotton and flip-flops I'm wearing boots. I use air compressor power tools torque wrenches specialty tools these guys are using rudimentary tools to say the least I have to give them credit where credit is due
Yes and it seems like they eyeballed the torque really good. That one guy must have a feel for it.
You really have to respect these guys, l have commented a few things here and there, that might seem a bit critical of them, but then l think, hmm, maybe l try to be a little too "precise". When you see them getting the job done under those conditions. Driving those valve seats in, facing them and the valves, lapping them in, etc. Hey, I'll bet that those engines run fine, and a long time, if maintained,, and driven respectfully. Thanks for the video guys, think I'm a bit more humble from watching. 🌈
@@jmartin9785 Yep, not everyone has a nascar style shop.

Only thing I saw missing was a torque wrench - great video, its good to see new seals and parts going in, so many videos they just throw the old stuff back after washing it off ;) It sounded good at the end too.

they lack with proper tools and everything, yet they nailed the job with their own ingenuity and excellent skills. needless to say how they work in harmony.
huge respect for these hard working people,
Given the slave labor rate and zero warranty , these engines return like bees to a nest due to premature failures from lack of proper torque , poor machining practices , improperly serviced and overloading..But hey when it cost you less then a gallon of goats milk to rebuild them its cost effective to have to keep rebuilding them every 6 months or 2000hrs.
If you go down the street a block you’ll find the guy that makes the pistons with a hammer and a rock, it’s amazing what these mechanics can do with the bare minimum.
it really is. Back in 2007 we had a mobility kill on a Abrams tank. We took everything sensitive out but had to abandon it for roughly 9 hours if I remember correctly until we could get recovery vehicles out there. The Iraqis stripped that puppy clean in the dark with very basic tools. I still have no idea how they did it. Must have been like ants swarming over food just yanking parts. I'm not even sure why they wanted them. I was waiting to see a cab go past running on bogie wheels🤣

@@okgroomer1966 I was surprised that worked. I guess there's not too much tension on those valve springs? They seemed to have the tools they needed. Their minds would be blown if they had an engine stand though. I'd think they could whip one up out of some of the junk they have lying around.
Молодцы! Ловко забили гнезда под клапана. Там небольшой перекос и оно лопается,

Here in the Netherlands the tools and equipment are much more professional, but knowing from experience you have at least a 50/50 chance of a (serious) issue after a rebuild. I love their home made tools like the home made or custome hand made valve spring tool where two guys press down equally to put the keepers on the valve or the home made hooning tool attachments for the drills and grinders. Love how they didn't line bore the rod end caps for the crank shaft
Yes, I to have much respect for these mechanics. Observe the working conditions! Yet no complaining. Just look at the young boys learning how to rebuild a complicated Diesel engine! One more thing, look how well they work together and get along. Not once did anyone seem to be critical of another they came to their aid and helped each other.
ua-cam.com/video/lbb4xwYj19g/v-deo.html
Agreed!!! Too many bad players where I'm from who critique and cut down others to boost their own positions in companies in order to enhance their job security. Too many bosses who are like that and also are too uneducated and stupid to see personnel problems as they are developing. Thus we see the workplace violence and the shootings taking place. Personally, the moment I see or sense a problem with ANY individual at a place of work, I put in my two weeks notice IMMEDIATELY!!!
I'm from Pakistan and usually have encounters with these mechanics from time to time. They're quite good at what they do. Secondly the workshops are quite disciplined. The elder person is called "ustad g" meaning master. They have very high level of respect for the masters. The young ones are there to learn observe and help the master in the tasks. As you can see these guys have no formal education or diplomas etc of the work they do. Every thing they learn and do is hands-on experience. This trade is basically ran by the principles of apprenticeship. The young guys come, they learn. Then, they set shops for themselves and train other guys and so the trade goes on.
Actually these are old diesels, not too complicated. They are built to last in Asian conditions.
@@drury2d8 Ok, but to me it’s still the fact that they are there learning…..not sitting somewhere playing on phone and having to be asked many times to do a task and then doing a half job of it.

Brilliant !, All important things like journal bearings and cylinder sleeves are replaced with new. Very knowledgeable mechanics. Very impressed. Cheers from Canada !
I'm impressed...they tight all the crankshaft bolts...without a torque wrench...just by experience....That engine uses sleeves for the pistons ...it basically will never die!!!
Yes 💪
At least they didn't use air impact wrench.
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing re torque wrench. I wonder if these fellas tightened up any of those head bolts in sequence, or wtf?!?
NO. "Experience", in this case being decades of history, dictates you use a torque wrench. "Experience", specifically "bad experiences" was the driver for the invention of the torque wrench. These guys are cavemen. It is possible to do what they are attempting, but they are only one step above Fred Flintstone. They demonstrate almost no esoteric knowledge. Critical mistakes makes the whole effort a waste.
The sleeves you think will make the engine immortal were not honed. Rings don't seat. Fail.
I know I can apply pretty equal amount of torque with just my hand and wrench with educated guessing of proper amount for specific bolt, but ,
If I'm putting an engine together I'm sure to dig out a real torque wrench.
Duh !

Mike most will say this unless they are the ones driving them and dealing with the constant failures/breakdowns and endless 6month overhauls...There is a reason they have gotten so quick in so called rebuilding these same engines ! They have been rebuilding the very same ones every 6-10 months...
@@tryduck6993 I’ve seen worse repairs in first world countries, these guys aren’t all that bad. Considering what they’re working with, it’s not too bad of a job and given the relatively small population in the country, there’s not nearly as many mechanics who know how to work on engines. These guys are more than likely at maximum efficiency fixing these engines with the process they use because all of the contractors go to the same few guys over and over and over again. Plus, even if they are doing 6 month overhauls, again, these guys are so efficient with their process that it probably takes them half the time to repair and replace everything that’s broken or worn.
