My first surprise was having the correct break down truck to remove the van. I was expecting a donkey cart. In the west we consider many parts taken from such a truck to be just scrap but in Pakistan there is always a man who can repair no matter what it is. Even broken light lenses
Nice use of a height multiplier by the guy helping to take the engine block out. I was particularly impressed by the efforts to keep the cylinder head and components out of the dust. I'm sure those valves and camshaft will be just fine after a rub down with some coarse grit emery.
These guys are extreamly clever using basic tools as they don't have many spare parts so they don't complain they just get on with it! Pakistanis are brilliant at this
Main bearing caps are marked with the order they belong. Same with rods. Toyota did a good job machining that engine when new for the main caps to interchange and still allow the engine to run. Basic shit if you've been taught.
Wow i love your torque wrench😂. Mains are 76 ft lbs and bigends are 29 ft lbs + 90 degrees, not do it up till your elbow clicks. The rod and head bolts are torque to yield so dont be surprised if it blows again. Good luck.

But exterior, interior and protective equipment are not a topic. Taking care of your own health isn't so important, or? That is probably one of the reasons why the average age among men in Pakistan is only 67.3 years.
Love the way they clean the block by filling the water jacket with acid of some sort and t h en washing it out onto the ground, you know that it isn't going to get into the ground water or anything!
Probably you have enough experience to "feel" the torque using only your "arm-memory". But I would invest in a good torque wrench... really !!! Otherwise ... great job, gentlemen !!!
These Pakistani mechanics curiosity for restoring anything mechanical is both a strength of knowledge and weakness for the lost cause however unperturbed by the challenging dilemma and is essentially the motivation for this particular project of rebuilding a vehicle way past its initial use by date expiration however these conceptual limitations have no effect whatsoever resulting in team of backyard enthusiasts who are eager to invest their time and resources into whatever is required to complete the rebuild we as viewers can only dream big like them
If he was a "mechanical guy" he would be either an android or a robot; looking at the screen, he appears to be quite human and therefore a MECHANIC or an operative.
I am actually surprised. I thought they would be lifting the van onto a motorcycle or a donkey cart! Instead it's a real life tow truck, albeit smaller!
Here I am thinking about buying a torque wrench that can go down to 2nm cos the BMW manual states that the injector brackets on a B48 need to be torqued at a specific torque and angle and these guys are doing headbolts with what looks like a Tyre spanner! LOL
@@lloydchristmas1086 I don't know about that , Some of those bolts are stretch bolt's , if you over tighten them they snap , and they are the absolute worst to get out if they snap , the metal feels soft. Some bolts because of that are one time use as well , and your tightening them into Aluminum heads or plastic parts so not only can it snap but also damage the part itself. And for some reason if not torqued to the correct spec or close , they start to leak .
Good job. I've been a mechanic since 1973 in uk. Nice to see real mechanics working. I do think he should have used a metric hammer to remove the pistons and con rods though.
Really ? Not one thing I watched was anything quality...not even a scraper for cleaning the old gasket off..worst backyard mechanics I ever seen...putting lipstick on a dead pig... The engine will not last long or even run right.. no torque wrench on the mains.. Maybe 100 miles before it goes dead..
A man came to restaurant and sat at the table. Waiter gave him a menu. Man decided on duck soup. Waiter took order and left. Few minutes later soup were served. Short time after man asked waiter to try soup. Waiter asked man: - Is there any problem? Man said: - Please try my soup... Waiter ask again: - Is it too salty? Too hot? Something wrong with it? Man firmly said: - Please try my soup... After sometime arguing , waiter finally said: - Ok! I'll try it! Where is the spoon? - A ha, A ha, A ha... - said man...
Years ago, while working in the yard, I took a drink out of the hose. All was fine till a swollen up dead lizard came down the pipe into my mouth. That was about 30 years ago, never drank out of the hose again 😂
Very cool 😎 truck I love to see the truck run again it can be a very nice truck very great work you guys are doing to the truck I give you five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love to on a truck like that truck
Looks like an old Toyota SR5 truck. That is definitely a Toyota 2L diesel engine which is similar to a 20R gas engine and the forerunner to the legendary 22RE. That being the case it should be alright as many a shade tree DIYer can attest!
I am sure they know that the engine will not last with metal tubes scraping the inside of the piston walls, dragging the machined surface across dirt and sand and a torque wrench is nowhere in sight!
All the money I've spent on for work-benches, vises, engine lifts, torque-wrenches and the host of other "necessary" equipment---- I don't think anybody would have worked for me if they were expected to scrabble in the dirt--- I know this goes on and I did it in the early days fixing my own cars but I don't think I would have published it
Damn, yeah!! Who needs those stupid torque wrench, measuring tools, new cylinder head bolts and other nonsense?? I think they put new pistons and bearings same way: if it moves it's ok!! Welcome to paquistancraty!

yeah no matter how much these car companies make breakable cars, pakistan will know how to reuse and reuse and fix and make new, no new parts needed.
Nice use of a height multiplier by the guy helping to take the engine block out. I was particularly impressed by the efforts to keep the cylinder head and components out of the dust. I'm sure those valves and camshaft will be just fine after a rub down with some coarse grit emery.
100%!!:)))
Its great how everything is rebuilt knowledge hand tools and manpower great content fellas .
I especially like how precision engine parts are first placed onto sand and dirt.
like, they had cleanish areas but just put the cam in a pile of dirt lmao
“Is the correct torque one outstretched leg and a bit more twist on that bearing cap”?
Cuz it needs a pinch of sand poured into the crankcase for better break-in!
If it does 10 miles it's a bonus
These guys are extreamly clever using basic tools as they don't have many spare parts so they don't complain they just get on with it! Pakistanis are brilliant at this
I have been told that when they reach the correct torque their elbow clicks. Bad joke, they are doing the best with what they have got.
'I like the gentle way they scrape away the gasket material on the block trying not to gouge the machined surface!!!!
Main bearing caps are marked with the order they belong. Same with rods. Toyota did a good job machining that engine when new for the main caps to interchange and still allow the engine to run. Basic shit if you've been taught.
I just use pliers to tighten the main bearings, never had a problem.

My respect to these guys!!
Good job!!👍
I'm still driving my 2004 Buick and 2005 Envoy. In my garage is a 1965 mustang and a 71 Datsun
It’s great what these mechanical guys do with hand tools and a dirt floor….American mechanics could learn a lot.
Yeah, like NOT how to work.
But exterior, interior and protective equipment are not a topic. Taking care of your own health isn't so important, or? That is probably one of the reasons why the average age among men in Pakistan is only 67.3 years.
Like how not to use a torque wrench! lol
Yeah we use these videos to show us what not to do. Ever.

The guy washing the dissembled truck has the most fun job...
They are real mechanics not like those of today who only know how to change parts and charge very expensive !
Then have them work on your vehicle and see how long it lasts

It's a Toyota but unfortunately the engine depends on a rubber timing belt. Glad they got rid of that.

how undeveloped that country is not even a bench to work from,or a power tool ,but they still manage to get things fixed
A fuel tank had a bench
It's cleaner than it was when we took it apart, what do you mean keep th parts off the ground!
Very nice work I wished to see the rest of the work and the moment the car started and painted
