My family never hunted im the first in my family to actually go and hunt. Shot my first deer maybe 2 years ago and felt an overwhelming feeling of pride knowing that i am going to be that person when i have my own family to teach my kids and they're kids about this lifestyle. I appreciate the video awesome info! happy hunting!
I know the feeling. I went out deer hunting for the first time last year with my new in-laws. Didn't bag anything, but it was the highlight of my year. I've been looking forward to going again all year.
Same here. My 6 year old son already wants to come with me. Im going to get him started next spring with hiking and camping. I think getting him starter in the colder weather might be a deterrence for him.
I'm an "older" guy in the waterfowl community. I stumbled across this video and was about to immediately dismiss it as another young douche bag trying to make money off of youtube. Then I was surprised right off the bat when the first thing you talked about was the respect of the animal. I kept listening and all I can say is you are a stand up individual and are hunting for the right reasons. As an old snow goose guide from Northern ND all I can say is I wish everyone in the waterfowl community was like you.
I was raised around the native culture and learned at a young age to appreciate every little thing about my harvest. I've hunted deer, dove, pheasant, quail, and turkey the last 23 years and finally got into duck hunting last year because of a buddy. I enjoy the heck out of it and I think I'm officially hooked. Didn't get a bird last year but focused more on learning as much as possible about this chess game. Here's to this year being successful! Thank you so much for your video!
I’ve been extremely fortunate. I was always a pheasant hunter but that has become increasingly more difficult hunting wild birds here in South Dakota. But last year I made friends with a guy that duck hunted mostly by himself. He invited me along and I was hooked. We went almost every weekend and now im obsessed. I only wish I knew up front the amount of money I was going spend. I guess you can’t take it with you. Love the videos. Thanks.
Yeah. Spending all of the money. 😂😂 Hunting for most people isn’t more economical than buying food. 40lbs of meat off a deer or so and the tag make a it $1/lb, the gas I spent made it $2, and whatever else I decided I needed made it $3. 😂😂
Just bought my first shotgun. It is a stoeger m3000 semi automatic 12 gauge. I've never been duck hunting before but my brothers have been hunting our whole lives. I'm ready to start this new sport and learn as much as possible from them now that I have my own shotgun. I get excited just thinking about it. Life is good. God is great. God bless everybody!
Im glad you focused on the act of taking life as a hunter. I truly believe that hunting and fishing growing up gave me an appreciation for life and a healthy respect for the power of firearms. After I killed my first deer as a kid and seeing the effects of a gun shot on a deer made me realize and respect the power of a firearm in a way that cant be matched through education. I grew up in a shooting and hunting family, but it wasnt until seeing the real flesh and blood result if a gun shot. I think if more people who were interested in shooting sports have that experience, there would not be as many careless accidents involving guns. Its my biggest issue when I go to a public range and seeing inexperienced people with poor muzzle discipline, pistol twerling, and just careless behavior around guns. I wouldn't hesitate to defend myself or my family, but I couldnt live with myself if a careless incident hurt or killed someone. I thank hunting for putting that healthy respect into me as a kid. I intend to pass that down to my children as well.
Thank you, Titus We need more hunters that respect the animals that are hunted, the land that is hunted on and our fellow hunters. We are at a time where any and everything is at our finger tips, so an "entitlement" is expected. I started b/c a friend took me on a Woodduck shoot. I still remember the ducks coming thru the Cypress, how they whistle and once I hit one, I was?amazed at its colored feathers. It was magical! Yes, knowing the law is very important. Also, if you have the knowledge of the rules and regs, it will save a lot of headaches when "the man" checks ya. This leads to ethics and sportsmanship, which folds into SAFETY. There's a lot to cover there, b/c the duck hunter's techniques and styles offer many challenges that could place the hunter in some precarious and dangerous situations. Boats, guns, dogs, mud, sticks & snags, etc. Also, the big, party hunts could become confusing and dangerous. Choose your partners wisely. With this, mixing alcohol/drugs is a big, big NO NO!!! Save that for after the hunt, not before or during. Know the birds your targeting. Some are restricted and some off limits. As for the rest, trail and error will teach you as well as a video. Scout, scout, scout! Good luck to all!
Hunting is fun but the most awesome thing about it is hanging out with your friends, family, cousin etc etc. Those are the fun memories, that's why I never stop going, went waterfowl in MN, love it, deer season, had a blast, it's the memory that counts
Using the wife’s account but man…I gotta thank you for your honest, well thought out intro to this sport. Gonna keep you in mind going forward. Will follow your content best I can. The respect you have for the game you shoot was outstanding. Thanks again
My grandfather was the last in my family to hunt when he was young but I’m trying to revive the tradition. I’ve gotten good at small game and upland bird hunting but nothing to show for big game or ducks yet! I’m looking forward to teaching my kids how to hunt as well as I can fish one day.
Thanks! This will be my first Waterfowl season at 49 yrs old. Good info good video. Waders on layaway, license, bought,12 decoys and just picked up a used beretta outlander. Getting excited!! God bless you and yours Just subbed. Love your humble approach
Great tips. I want to add to your point of “find a friend”. Don’t be afraid to just straight up ask on your local hunting forums, or get a hold of your local Delta Waterfowl or DU chapter. My first time out was with two complete strangers who replied to my request on a forum and now 6 years later they are two of my best friends I have. Another option is go solo to local areas others hunt and just chat it up with the guys at the launch or parking. There is a good chance one will ask if you’d like to join them. And if you get invited do your best to help out. Volunteer to throw decoys, collect decoys, gather brush, pick up birds, just make yourself a helpful hunting partner. And most important, BRING SPARE SNACKS!
Fantastic video!!! I’m pumped for hunting season! Everything in your video is spot on! The only thing I would add is to not get hung up on getting your limit every time you go. To me getting in the field and being out in nature and making the time to make it happen and success to me! Birds are a bonus to me!
This is my first year getting into duck hunting, and in all honesty I am horrible at it but I for sure got some good tips from this video. I’ve went out three times and haven’t even gotten my first duck yet but watching this video makes me want to get back out there lol
I appreciate it these kind of videos. I’m a first generation hunter. Learning everything I can by watching UA-cam and forums. Education course is next week. Season opens next month. Thanks again
My father never took me hunting and it’s probably because he never went with his dad, but my cousins are avid hunters and have exposed me to another side of shooting sports (love my ARs and bolt guns) that I never thought I would get to experience. Have all of my gear ready for this season and plan on going out next weekend!
This is an excellent video, man! Just gettin into duck hunting in South Florida and loving every bit of it. This is great info to think about moving forward. I appreciate you taking the time to outline all of these tips and wish you nothing but the best in your duck hunting adventures!!
I was thinking about taking up duck hunting so I looked and found this video. Dude you straight sealed the deal for me. Thanks. Just sprayed my kayak camo today!
Thanks for the tips, it's almost time to hunt some ducks! Just want to add, people have always said well your a killer if you hunt I've always said I don't go out and kill, I harvest food.
Love the video! My cousin used to take me duck hunting when I was around 10-11 years old!, but unfortunately life has changed and I moved to the different side of the state. I’ll be turning 20 this month and looking forward to learning again / going on my own for once!
My Grandpa used to do something called Pass Hunting. I've heard various opinions of it. Some duck hunters say it's sky busting and others say it's an acceptable form of hunting. What's your opinion?
For someone who has been into collecting sneakers and skateboarding. I gave it all up. I'm 38 and I can't risk skateboarding injuries. Sneakers are a headache. I'm all new to this. I recently just got into archery. But I for sure want to become a hunter. Possibly more of a duck hunter. Maybe God our Heavenly Father is calling me to be one as well as to spread the good news about Jesus Christ our lord and saviour. Thank you so much. I have subscribed to your channel and excited on taking this journey. God bless you.
Had my first duck hunt today, I was alone so I knew I'd really just be out there gathering information. I could not identify any of the birds I saw as ducks for certain so I did not fire. But I got my feet wet and felt like it was step 1 of a longer process. There is work involved with duck hunting that just isn't there hunting whitetail deer. I found that out lol.
If you can't find anybody to take you hunting. Get out there by yourself. Sometimes successful hunters don't want to take a new Hunter out and do all the work for them. But if you take the initiative to go out on your own and try to figure it out, hunters will notice that and be more likely to want to help you be successful. Also asking for pointers at your local sporting goods, or archery pro shops or even call the local game and fish depot up and ask some questions. And hunting is hard work most of the time. Just remember to be safe, and have fun. Enjoy the time you get to spend in nature. 🇺🇲
I am 23 and i am going on my first hunt ever. My captain at my firehouse is taking me and i am so excited i grew up around weapons but my parents never went hunting and as a dad i am going to take my son hunting when he is old enough.
Thank you for an awesome and informative video, I was wondering if using a fishing rod with a hook or a sinker or some thing tied to the end of viable option to retrieve downed ducks from a body of water?
Good video. Sharing it with a couple prospects! I like to mentor but I usually try and bring them to new spots or just decent spots. Don't take em to honey holes until they start putting in work
The shotguns I have access to are 12ga 2 3/4" or 20ga 3". My understanding is that both are a bit light for waterfowl. Which would be better, or is it more about the pattern i get from them? (Bear in mind I cannot afford to buy a new shotgun) My friend has a 12ga 3", but it has a nice finish, and i would feel horrible if i messed it up lol.
Never hunted as an adult, don’t have a father or anyone to teach me. Hopefully this summer or next summer I can get educated and get going at it. Been a life long dream of mine to hunt again
After you harvest your duck take it home and Brest it out what do you do with the carcass? Do we throw it out or are we supposed to bury it? Or is there some type of way of disposing of it ?
So I never been hunting, let alone duck hunting, been wanting to for years, just I don't want my first alone, I am a lobster hunter so I know the value of life, one of my customers for my work is a duck hunter, he said this season he will take me out not only to a duck hunt for a weekend, but goose hunting as well when that season happens at the end of duck season, so I get to go out and learn, hopefully I can go with him and his group each year, now I need to find someone for deer hunting and boar hunting
Would mallards work in intercoastal water and brackish water? I'm getting started, got some nice FA HD Fully Flocked Deocys for Christmas. Dog and I are getting out tomorrow. Yes, him and I have been training, I almost got a MH title on him.
I started duck hunting by myself pretty much, went with a friend he explained to me how it basically works and what I need but for the most part I grabbed my dads gun went out with a couple decoys and had almost 0 luck for the most part, shot a couple ducks doing some jump shooting in my kayak since then I got a dog so I can stay out of the water in the cold weather and also have a best friend, I plan for this season to be a lot better than the last considering last season I only got 2 green wings and a wigeon
And I’m from oregon so hunting out here is basically deep deep water so you’re throwing out deep weighted decoys and seeing a lot less ducks than they do over east more or farther north or even a little bit closer to the coast line, the migration is not the best over here but it’s enough to have some good days or days that make a week worth it
You had me at “enjoying GODS creation” First of my family to get into this ritual. It’s been rough but it helps me practice a way of worship that gave us his creation to help us sustain. Animals are to be respected and enjoy GODS breath in them for our sustenance.
Great tips, I would also recommend calling your local game warden or wildlife office to make sure 100% that you have all of your correct licenses and endorsements, especially for public land.
another way to get into the hunting coununity is joining a skeet/trap club because chances aresome of the regulars there are hunters as well and it may give you chance ot get to know them and for them to get to know you
i've been fishing by myself for about five years now the lone fisherman always catches more I imagine as a lone Duckhunter it will be the same lol less sound less sites and less scents is my reasoning lol same thing with deer I have never shot a deer on a buddy hunt lol
I don’t have favorite refuges. Wherever the birds are at is where I go. Refuges closest to you are the most convenient obviously. Get to know those and spend a lot of time finding new spots at the closest places and you’ll be successful
i like the idea of hunting especially for self sustainment, i would love to learn. but how do i get over feeling terrible about it. I shot a squirrel once as kid and i felt absolutely horrible after.
You were a kid than so it’s understandable. No one wants to see a live being suffer, but when game is taken rapidly and ethically than it’s ok. That’s just nature and how it was meant to be from the beginning of time
i’m 26 and still get butthurt over it here and there but it’s because i have 5 younger children of my own and they love hunting but do not understand taking the lives, they love coming hunting but as soon as stop drops its bad dad it’s just something that we all have to get used to
I started out because I always wanted to duck hunt always knew about it. Always thought it was cool. My buddy who has been duck hunting all his life said he would take me if I got my License and waders and a gun. That’s how I got started.
Loved the video, Titus🤍 I am not a duck hunter , but you made me feel like I could go and be successful👏🏻💚👏🏻 Unfortunately, I have no desire to go hunting😂🤷♀️
Great fill in where most duck hunting videos skip. Would also be great to show how the reservation systems n sweat lines work. It's not intuitive. Also how to set up a simple blind on shore and in the marsh.
Noticed you call it by the correct name, the department of fish and GAME. Was wondering if you did it intentionally or not(you even googled it that way). Ever since they changed the name to fish and wildlife I have refused to call it that. Just wondering if you were doing intentionally like me or if it's just an old habit... Love your channel can't wait for the season to start.
U need to do an intermediate!, and then experienced duck hunter vids also. Just to maybe help other guys lesrn things they may or may not kno! Im ALWAYS looking to learn and betterv myself and learn some new tricks! 👊👊👍👍
My family never hunted im the first in my family to actually go and hunt. That’s awesome!

I find hunting by myself more successful than with others. It's definitely more entertaining with others because you have someone to talk to.
i like youre positive vibe about the sport, its challenging to start, but when you get in to, you make it youre lifestyle. hunt is everything
Going duck hunting with my buddy for the first time. Thanks for the knowledge
Awesome! Good luck this season!
Thanks! This will be my first Waterfowl season at 49 yrs old. Good info good video. Waders on layaway, license, bought,12 decoys and just picked up a used beretta outlander. Getting excited!! God bless you and yours
Just subbed. Love your humble approach
Awesome and congratulations! Thanks for the sub and good luck this year! God bless
How'd it go? I'm about to turn 31 and I have been eager to start hunting the past few years. The research and regulations are exhausting.
How’d it go?! I’m 49 and this will be my first season. I met some folks that are going to take me and I’m pretty stoked! Any lessons learned?
Great tips. I want to add to your point of “find a friend”. Don’t be afraid to just straight up ask on your local hunting forums, or get a hold of your local Delta Waterfowl or DU chapter. Words of the wise and experienced 👆🏼here. Thanks for the add on
Fantastic video!!! I’m pumped for hunting season! Everything in your video is spot on! The only thing I would add is to not get hung up on getting your limit every time you go. To me getting in the field and being out in nature and making the time to make it happen and success to me! Birds are a bonus to me!
Thanks! Exactly! Very good add thank you

Keep at it man! Every hunt is a learning experience
I appreciate it these kind of videos.
I’m a first generation hunter. Learning everything I can by watching UA-cam and forums. Education course is next week. Season opens next month. Thanks again
Thanks!

Hope your hunt went well! 👍
It will be this fall before I do my first hunt, in CA. I'm starting 100% green, alone, with my son. I'm hanging on your every word. Thanks!
Awesome! Good luck!
This is an excellent video, man! Just gettin into duck hunting in South Florida and loving every bit of it. This is great info to think about moving forward. I appreciate you taking the time to outline all of these tips and wish you nothing but the best in your duck hunting adventures!!
"ordained for us to do..." Spot on man, way to spit truth!
Thanks man!
About to get out there for my first time with a friend next week and feeling way more confident. Thanks for this info bud!
Good luck!
This is a 2 yr old video but still stands true! Good advice- Thank you😊
I was thinking about taking up duck hunting so I looked and found this video. Dude you straight sealed the deal for me. Thanks. Just sprayed my kayak camo today!
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the tips, it's almost time to hunt some ducks! Just want to add, people have always said well your a killer if you hunt I've always said I don't go out and kill, I harvest food.

Thanks! Good luck this season!
Love it man. I've only done guided duck hunting. Very informative I appreciate your perspective on hunting.
Thanks
Great video, thanks! Went on my first duck hunt yesterday.
Love watching your channel. Great tips. If you are ever in Northern Utah I would love to go hunting with you.
I am 23 and i am going on my first hunt ever. My captain at my firehouse is taking me and i am so excited i grew up around weapons but my parents never went hunting and as a dad i am going to take my son hunting when he is old enough.
Thank you for the posting …gave me a bit more confidence to keep on going and hopefully have a group of my own …love duck hunting!!,
Great video that needs to be shared more, love the channel and looking forward to this season. Good luck out there everyone, God bless
Appreciate it!
Excellent vid! Well thought out and perfect information for the new hunter 👍🏻💪🏻👊🏻
Thanks Joel!
Thank you for an awesome and informative video, I was wondering if using a fishing rod with a hook or a sinker or some thing tied to the end of viable option to retrieve downed ducks from a body of water?
I’ve seen people do it
My cousin does it. It works but I think u need a large treble hook.
Thanks for the info looking to go duck hunting when the season comes, for the first time with a friend of mine. First time for both of us
Awesome! Good luck!
Great video! I’ve been interested in duck hunting for a while and this video was really informative!
Thanks! Glad to help
Excellent video and I highly respect your appreciation for the wildlife!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Good video. Sharing it with a couple prospects!
I like to mentor but I usually try and bring them to new spots or just decent spots. Don't take em to honey holes until they start putting in work
A lot of wisdom in what you said.
The shotguns I have access to are 12ga 2 3/4" or 20ga 3". My understanding is that both are a bit light for waterfowl. Which would be better, or is it more about the pattern i get from them?
(Bear in mind I cannot afford to buy a new shotgun)
My friend has a 12ga 3", but it has a nice finish, and i would feel horrible if i messed it up lol.
Thank you for the excellent intro to duck hunting video! I am greatly looking forward to starting and this vid def helped me!
Never hunted as an adult, don’t have a father or anyone to teach me. Hopefully this summer or next summer I can get educated and get going at it. Been a life long dream of mine to hunt again
That was a lot of good information for a New Hunter . And some refresher material for older hands .
Appreciate it
Thanks for all the tips i didnt know there was so much to in my about duck hunting
Thank you for the great information any tips for how to hunt the refuge?
Awesome tips! Everyone is always learning something new and can teach to the next generation!
Thanks
I needed this kick. Obsessed angler and see too many blinds not to cast and blast.
By the way, instant like and subscribe.
Thank you!
Would mallards work in intercoastal water and brackish water? I'm getting started, got some nice FA HD Fully Flocked Deocys for Christmas. Dog and I are getting out tomorrow. Yes, him and I have been training, I almost got a MH title on him.
Ya they will. That’s awesome!
what’s a MH title
Cool video, I was thinking about making something similar this past weekend from a beginners perspective.
Thank you for making this video.
Is it OK to hunt with 24" barrel if I feel comfortable swinging it?
Yes it is
I started duck hunting by myself pretty much, went with a friend he explained to me how it basically works and what I need but for the most part I grabbed my dads gun went out with a couple decoys and had almost 0 luck for the most part, shot a couple ducks doing some jump shooting in my kayak since then I got a dog so I can stay out of the water in the cold weather and also have a best friend, I plan for this season to be a lot better than the last considering last season I only got 2 green wings and a wigeon
And I’m from oregon so hunting out here is basically deep deep water so you’re throwing out deep weighted decoys and seeing a lot less ducks than they do over east more or farther north or even a little bit closer to the coast line, the migration is not the best over here but it’s enough to have some good days or days that make a week worth it
Keep at it! Doesn’t happen overnight!
Great tips this is only my second season and a couple of years before I ever hunted I learned from videos like this! 👍
Glad to hear!
You had me at “enjoying GODS creation”
First of my family to get into this ritual. It’s been rough but it helps me practice a way of worship that gave us his creation to help us sustain. Animals are to be respected and enjoy GODS breath in them for our sustenance.
Your step number 1 got a thumbs up
As he let the shot up duck suffer and didn't kill it. Di ps h t
Great tips, I would also recommend calling your local game warden or wildlife office to make sure 100% that you have all of your correct licenses and endorsements, especially for public land.
Thanks. Good one!
What’s the push with 12 gauge. 20 gauge is more than ample.
My man. You are awesome. I love watching your content! I wish you lived closer to Missouri. I’d love to meet you.
Hey man how do I go about finding a place to hunt? Im in NorCal so there is public land around but how do I know what is huntable?
Grab a regs booklet from sporting good store, Walmart, big 5 and it will show you. Or go to fish and game site and they’ll be listed there as well
any tips on cleaning a duck?
another way to get into the hunting coununity is joining a skeet/trap club because chances aresome of the regulars there are hunters as well and it may give you chance ot get to know them and for them to get to know you
Good boy, Rocky.
Great video. I’m gonna save this for folks that are hunt-curious.
Thanks
All great info Titus. Keep it up.
i've been fishing by myself for about five years now the lone fisherman always catches more I imagine as a lone Duckhunter it will be the same lol less sound less sites and less scents is my reasoning lol same thing with deer I have never shot a deer on a buddy hunt lol
looking for new waders. hand me downs didn't last. any advise on what to get?
Rogers waders are good. They have good warranty’s on theirs
You can get started at a hunting preserve, hone your shooting skills with sporting clay's. Join a Rod & Gun Club.
Hey what are your favorite refuges in CA just asking cause I am gonna shoot some new ones and dont know a ton about all of them?
I don’t have favorite refuges. Wherever the birds are at is where I go. Refuges closest to you are the most convenient obviously. Get to know those and spend a lot of time finding new spots at the closest places and you’ll be successful
Thanks for sharing. I have not duck hunted yet and its on my list! Great intro Video for a soon to be newbie like me.
Glad to hear! Thanks
i like the idea of hunting especially for self sustainment, i would love to learn. but how do i get over feeling terrible about it. I shot a squirrel once as kid and i felt absolutely horrible after.
You were a kid than so it’s understandable. No one wants to see a live being suffer, but when game is taken rapidly and ethically than it’s ok. That’s just nature and how it was meant to be from the beginning of time
i’m 26 and still get butthurt over it here and there
but it’s because i have 5 younger children of my own and they love hunting but do not understand taking the lives, they love coming hunting but as soon as stop drops its bad dad
it’s just something that we all have to get used to
how do you find public duck hunting spots where you live
OnX hunt map app
Thank You, a very helpful and informative video.
Glad to hear
I started out because I always wanted to duck hunt always knew about it. Always thought it was cool. My buddy who has been duck hunting all his life said he would take me if I got my License and waders and a gun. That’s how I got started.
That’s awesome
How did or do you record the RED dot shot cam footage?
It’s called a ShotKam.
Loved the video, Titus🤍 I am not a duck hunter , but you made me feel like I could go and be successful👏🏻💚👏🏻
Unfortunately, I have no desire to go hunting😂🤷♀️
Lol thanks 😉
:D
Great fill in where most duck hunting videos skip.
Would also be great to show how the reservation systems n sweat lines work. It's not intuitive.
Also how to set up a simple blind on shore and in the marsh.
Good video I been duck hunting all my life and you got most of the points .`
Thanks Gary. I tried. I’m sure I missed something
When will you be restocking the store?
Man, unfortunately because of Covid and shortage of a bunch of different things we won’t be doing apparel this season. Pretty bummed
@@MidValleyMercenaries sorry to hear that! I’ll be looking forward to a hoody next year!
Thanks!
I think you meant stigma , not stigmatism, LMAO.
Great vid!
I really appreciate this video!
Thanks!
I’ve never called it anything but department of fish and game. Thanks!
What about chokes ? Is it needed ?
It’s not necessary to have aftermarket chokes but it can help
Great video, thanks
Glad you liked it!
Any channel recommendations for deer hunting?
