I’ve never tried Solomon or even seen any of their shoes in person but I like how these look. I’d love to see you try the Altra Escalante racers. People steer away cause they look minimalistic but there’s something I really like about them on fast days. Like running barefoot full speed without the pain of running barefoot full speed.
Hey Kofuzi. After a visit to a running brand last year (one of the brands that haven't made a Pebax shoe yet), where I was lucky enough to talk to the head designer of running shoes, I got a bit more inside on the reason why some brands have held back. It has mostly to do with two aspects of production. One is cost. It is more expensive and to make the foam. Whether this is because they needed new molds specially made, or if the entire process is more expensive, I don't know. The second reason is the impact Pebax foam production has on the environment. There is supposed to be a clear difference in making a EVA shoe and a Pebax shoe. And to some companies, that have pushed towards being better for the environment, it was going the opposite way if they manufactured Pebax. This is not mentioned at all in the running communitiy, so it seems to be some kind of a secret. So, if this is true, it seems to be very different story behind all the focus on environment, that we have right now. Maybe something worth asking about when talking to brands? Anyways. Enjoy your content as always. I tried last years Phantasm and felt it had some promise, and some faults as well. So I can't wait to try the second version if I get the opportunity. Lars
Something that may factor into both cost and environmental impact is that the rate of defect is much higher than with EVA. So to make a hundred shippable shoes, for example, they need to produce way more than 100 units.
Nice flashback to the zoom fly SP! That shoe was how I found you and your videos, I had just got a pair at the local Nike outlet and was wondering what they were best for, google search pulled up your video and I’ve been watching since .
This Kofuzi review gets an A-. I liked most of the running shots and the deer but there was one shot where the laces of one shoe were loose and it gave me the heebie jeebies. The shoe looks great on the closeups.
Incredible design! But I’m bummed you don’t think it’s a full marathon shoe. Do you have a list of top full marathon shoes as we approach marathon season??
it's not a marathon specific list, but everything on this channels skews towards marathoners, as that is what I do most often ua-cam.com/video/vQ0Oys2k0Jo/v-deo.htmlsi=NrD55tz0GVkDa15P
I just did my longest run today in the Magic Speed 3. It is on the firmer side and I think I could take it to half marathon, but just barely. Interesting paring with Salomon. Do you think the Salomon could take you farther if you had to pick between the two?
I love my Sense Ride 3, so comfortable for a fairly aggressive grip..so I can imagine this is great. Might be a daft question but what is P-Backs/PBax?
Already released in the EU and it is 250€ maybe they changed the price? Usually the dollar conversion is 1:1 nowadays and after a quick check seems true for some salomon models. Fingers crossed fo you guys!
this will be the rare one I buy at launch, for the differentiating factor that there's that extra width/stability where I land in the forefoot. Also love the magic speed so I'm glad to see the comparison. ASICS has been killing it lately, surprised I haven't seen the gel kensei MAX get more hype -- amazing shoe as well
love the launch colorway and upper design 🔥 Odd space to fill though, the shoe as a half marathon racer. feels like the shorter distance trainers these days can usually double up as a half marathon option whereas for marathon racing, the field is more distinct. imho, at this price point too, hard to justify unless you have 4-5 shoe rotation
Maybe from a conceptual framework I’d agree with you, but that assumes you like the non S/Lab Phantasm 2 (I don’t). Also, even from one of my favorite speed trainers, the Deviate Nitro 2, is still want something more aggressive for a race
@@kofuzi - yes they are all different, that's how i try to justify my shoe buying addiction😁 also ur shoe wall is the envy of us all 😅 i wonder if it will be an interesting video to feature a $200 shoe rotation vs $500 vs $1000, and where some shoes like the s/lab phantasm 2 will feature
@@kofuzi bro, thats Salomon. When you pay for Pro Evo 1 you understand that you pay for a brand and thats part of the reason its so expensive. In Salomon they neither spend much on marketing nor on deals with athletes (in comparison to Adidas, Nike, etc.). So thats why I pointed out the price.

god i love the look of this shoe so much
Same, super sharp. The translucent part gives me nostalgic Nike VF1 vibes (vapor weave)
S Lab shoes always look pretty good, just that they all have a very ugly price tag
And your logo matches the color way of this shoe😊😊
So expensive in turkey. I guess i will never have this shoes. :(
@@mustafaozkan37at least .. u have it 😢
The minimal use of color and the way that Salamon branding looks, this shoe is just so good-looking.
I agree
The aesthetics is off the charts. Love a shoe that doesn't scream RUNNING SHOE in your face.
One of the better looking shoe / colorway lately, similar to the Deviate Nitro Elite 1 (Speed City).

I tried the Escalate 2.5 a few years ago. It was pretty nice
@@kofuzi What shoe would you pick for indoor gym classes-part treadmill, part dumbbell weight classes? I liked TOPO but I can't tolerate the design.
Looks amazing, so pricey still I usually only try a super shoe if I can find on great sale later ! Thanks for great review as usual !
Thanks for watching!

hope the review is helpful

these shoes had major issues with laces becoming untied. had to triple knot them
@@kofuzi It's Salomon. Their usual idea of laces is their quicklaces. Maybe they don't know regular laces that well.
@@franklehouillier8865saw that too just now before reading your comment!
I'm digging that new gray colorway in that magic Speed 3.
Those are white. Or they were white

Pretty much right on target with my thoughts on this one. Btw, this was the main shoe inside the Salomon secret room at TRE.
ah, that makes sense
They look like the old Marlboro McLaren F1 cars🏎!
nice connection there. I hadn't thought of that

yes
@ 4:57 the laces come off, is that a problem w the lacing or just a random event
I'm running Chicago for the first time! Tusks for the video... now to look for the best places to get some pizza!!!

You've clearly been running the hell out of those Magic Speed 3s lol
It’s been my default ASICS trip shoe
I love my Sense Ride 3, so comfortable for a fairly aggressive grip..so I can imagine this is great.
Might be a daft question but what is P-Backs/PBax?
pebax is a material that is used in shoes
It's so pretty. Re: Pebax - didn't Atreyu use it for the Artist? If that's the case I don't think it's to do with exclusive deals but design choice
I'm not sure that was pebax. Even if it were, perhaps their orders would have been small enough to slide through
@kofuzi, could you please summarize your tests of low and high threshold and VO2 Max you performed on these shoes? Thank you
you can look at my strava if you like, but this feels like a rather large ask. I'm not an exercise physiologist, nor do I want to write a term paper.
Kofuzi, please review Craft nordlite speed.
Beautiful !!!
J.
What is the sizing like? How is the fit?
Let's gooo!
Yo!
The only reason I find this shoe appealing is because it reminds me of the Vaporfly 😂
How are the laces?
Salomon had a Phastasm 1 try-on run in my City a year ago and a bunch of us had to re-lace multiple times during a 3-mile run.
I had to triple knot
Agreed. $250 seems like the sweet spot for super shoes. Anything over that seems excessive.
I don’t mind it for Prime X or Endorphin Elite. But for most shoes, $225-$250 is great
yeah $225 -$250 is the sweet sp....

I have early media info. Who knows what the actual price will be in the US
How does it compare to the asics metaspeed edge+?
It’s literally a Hoka Rocket X2 with red
Kinda but not
got my pair today. Lets see

Bowling shoe design has come a long way
Pretty, but the price is a joke @ $275, and it's not even really designed properly for a marathon. No thanks.
Don't get them of you overpronate. Some of the footage of people collaping in on it are painful to watch.
This shoe has been out for a while now. I’m guessing we should therefore be seeing a lot of people reporting distress from all that overpronation.
P bags ??
Pebax is a trade name for PEBA (polyether block amide)
Sounds like an A tier shoe for an S tier price.
its factory capabilities
