Might be an unpopular opinion but Eivor betraying Odin during the fake Valhalla section is easily my top 3 most powerful scenes in Assassin's Creed series. Eivor bear a hatred for their father for being weak, for betraying the Norse ideology of never dropping your axe, give away your will to anything but a battle. Yet in the end, Eivor realized that being strong, true glory isn't about brute force, blood and brutality. It's about knowing to protect what you truly love and care about which are family and friends. To finally returns to the real glory they had found in their long journey, Eivor had to mirror their action which their father enacted decades ago to protect Eivor and the Raven clan, dropping the very same axe.

Social stealth is another thing I'll give it credit for since that was largely absent in Origins and Odyssey. The DLC was pretty good, too: Siege of Paris especially for bringing back the black box assassinations, and Tombs of the Fallen was the closest thing to the tombs and puzzles in the Ezio trilogy.
Even if you put a hood on in distrust areas in Valhalla, the guard will still attack you even if you try to ignore and walk past them. At the end of the day, you have to find another route to avoid the guards. So really what’s the point of social stealth, or at least the existence of hood in Valhalla? I keep saying this and I will KEEP saying this in the hopes somone can make it possible... If someone made a mod for AC Valhalla that cut a lot of the filler arcs out of the game and kept the important ones, making the game more like 30-40 hours, it would be INFINITELY more replayable to me. We need Sliderv2 on it or something!
I’m a big fan of your take. There’s something to love about every AC game. My big problem with Valhalla is the story overall. After I finished the game, I was trying to understand what the point really was of Eivors journey besides pacifying England and growing her clan. I would’ve been much happier if they wrote it like black flag to have Eivor eventually join the hidden ones. Especially after the siege of Paris. I almost thought Eivor was going to join.
Tombs of the Fallen and the boss fights were fun as well. Also the voice actor for Ciara from Wrath of the Druids was great casting. Julie Fowlis has an amazing singing voice. And the assassin bureaus were fun to explore.
On the Gear System: I felt no reason to swap armour gear. I took a set you can get in Norway from start to finish of the base game and the two first year DLCs, the only reason I upgraded a second set was so my Havi wasn't wearing the same set as Evior so I didn't need to go to a blacksmith every time to make them wear different items. I liked the variety in weapons and upgraded a light shield, and war Axe (literally the first axe you get), a dagger, a Sycle and a 1handed sword as I liked how they all felt in combat, I mainly focused on a Hunting bow but had all 3 types have one almost upto date as I would swap bow when out of ammo. All the weapons tended to be the first one I got as the slight modifiers were out weighed damage loss and the grind to get it back upto scratch. Odyssey on the other hand had the benefit that any new Items were of an up to date level so very rarely did I keep hold of an item unless it's modifiers were insane in which case it was worth the grind to upgrade. only when I hit mastery levels did I finally start upgrading all the kit to play with and start to feel new items were useless. Only reason I upgrade other armour sets quality in Vallhalla is to unlock the higher tier cosmetics
I both like and don't like just the insane amount of content crammed into this game now after all of the DLC. You have like 8 different big areas to explore and they brought back a lot of the older features like optional syncs, social stealth, the hidden blade etc. We even got a rogue lite that didn't overstay its welcome.
123.3GB almost 300 hours and a 100% completion badge is what was gained and taken from me when purchasing the complete edition on discount for £20 ... 2 years ago, I have done literally everything there is to do
Personally, I always felt a lot of youtube content creators and critics were being a bit too harsh and criticism of the game were mostly about the era this game takes place in and the general "Ubisoft is a shit company making shit games, only good AC game was brotherhood and maybe Origins" bias debuff. A lot of the criticism in Valhalla could be applied to other generally liked Assassins Creed games, like Odyssey. I felt that everything about Valhalla felt great in terms of progression and was probably the best thing about the game. Exploring this world is phenomenal, the DLC also were really nice. I just think the only objectively bad thing about this game is that its too big and it takes too long to actually see everything the game offers, the amount of stuff you can find is reasonable but it takes too long. You can easily spend 40 hours and still only be at the beginning of the game where you make your homestead. The whole game is just so much bigger than Odysseys. A lot of the backhanded criticism is more about the game being in the dark ages which is one of the most hated historical eras and probably the least ones suitable for assassinations. Some of the worst depictions of brutality happened during that time as well. Not many people can see anything positive about it, its called Dark Age for a reason after all. I tried to go back to Odyssey since they depicted the world beautifully, but I can't. The games progression feels dated and rely to much on huge damage numbers. It doesn't feel you're doing damage, you're giving enemies huge numbers and watch them die. It feels so odd. I honestly love the way they depicted Greek culture, it felt very romanticized (no pun intended) but goddamn the game feels so dated in terms of the actual game. Just how I love it, but after playing Valhalla, the gameplay itself is what stops me from enjoying it. Assassins Creed 3 to Unity always felt more like a simple arcade and exploration games with a way to choose stealth. The later games from Origin on feel more like a very easy The Witcher 3. Valhalla tried something entirely new and was in many ways better than Witcher 3s gameplay, the passive skill tree that unlocks minor gameplay elements and the ability tree were great. But goddamn Vikings and assassins are completely opposing sides. For a Viking, stealth would be throwing one torch instead of two in order to burn a house. They really picked the shittiest theme for an assassin game, but on the other hand I've seen high level stealth gameplay and Valhalla probably gives you the most options to be sneaky. Last but not least, I think this is the best viking themed game. A fan favorite, Valheim, doesn't even come close. No other game is able in conveying the sheer carnage of the viking era so faithfully and nicely in this way. For hardcore Viking fans and people involved with some of the viking history this is a 9/10 at least. It just takes a very long time to see the beauty since Valhalla is so monumental.
I'm glad Valhalla is getting some love. I thought it was extremely overhated. There are many things to dislike about the game, but overall, I loved it. I just wish there was a new game plus.
@koyrion to give an objective viewpoint; I don't think the story is as long as one would think. If you were to put it in terms of your favorite show, you can binge watch your favorite show, and each area of the game was its own mini "season" of the show. Plus the game came out at the perfect time, with Covid, people weren't able to leave. So personally for me I love the fact that there was lots of content. It was perfect for an introvert like me.
To me they got the side missions right in valhalla but misused it, instead of making the arcs optional, they made it mandatory, if the arc system stayed but instead was optional, it would lead to better world building, jorvic and lunden were super good in my opinion
In my opinion they should have made many alliances secondary missions, in this way they would have made the story shorter and made content available for those who wanted to continue exploring after finishing the main story
The problem really is that Ubisoft took the idea of "open world" quite literally. This game is not good for those who are accustomed to a well-curated story path that, despite the illusion of choices and multiple directions, still ties everything to an anchor point. This is probably the only game outside of the original Fallout 76 that made me feel the open world as literally as an open world is (meaning, not just for the sake of exploration but the weight and anxiety of it). One may remember that Mirage started as a DLC for this already humongous game. They probably realized how huge this game was already. I'd still rate this no. 2 with Odyssey as my no. 1 and Origins no. 3.
I’m currently playing it day and night. It’s my second play through since about two years ago and it’s long and that’s me just doing the main story. I’m trying to beat it before my son is born and wife is allowing me to play nonstop as soon as I get home from work ⚔️🛡🦅😅 but it’s my misión to beat the story asap cuz my son is due at anytime 😬🙌👶
I definitely like the gear system better in Valhalla because in odyssey it was like “oh you have giant double bladed axe, here’s a basic sword” but in Valhalla it doesn’t fill your inventory with pointless junk
What you said makes little no sense dude. Valhalla gear system is the worst build system I have ever seen in any aRPGs. In Odyssey every perk uses percentages whereas Valhalla in just +1 +2 for something. Have you ever tried testing your damage before and after you socket all your runes in all of your gear? They only increase/decrease by like a merely five damage whereas in Odyssey if you prioritise CRIT damage over weapon damage when testing your warrior attackers then you will notice a significant decrease for your damage. Moreover, Valhalla also has a virtually non existence diversity of armor sets. Every armor sets only offer two bonuses(not to mention the second one is often just +10 +20 for something AGAIN)whereas in Odyssey you get a set bonus for equipping a whole set plus 10 additional engraving on each armor piece, and they are all either warrior focused, assassin focused, hunter focused or hybrid. Furthermore, Valhalla also has way less cool damage glitches-in Odyssey you have the one billion damage knife of dallwun glitch, two billion damage glitch, Ares Madness glitch, Korfu Champion glitched engraving, Bighorn Bow etc. Last but not least, I understand that not everyone likes the random loot mechanic in Valhalla, but seriously the absence of this mechanic is why Valhalla is grindy as HELL. Virtually the only thing that you can trade for silver is trinkets, which makes buying runes(200/round runes 400/diamond runes)extremely annoying in Valhalla unless you used the double mark of Sol glitch to duplicate infinite amount of runes which was patched in current patch unfortunately
I’m still salty to this day about not getting new game plus I enjoyed the darker vibe and the DLC’s. Plus, I wanted to see if I could get the order of engines and assassinate in a different way because there were some black box missions that you could do.
To me, there are 3 games, that are very loosely connected, in Valhalla: 1. England story 2. Hunting down the Order members 3. Being reborn "Norse god"/ Isu/ modern day Basically, when you rescue Sigurd, he just waits around until you have almost finished the England story. There was one interaction from Sigurd between rescuing him and returning to Norway. The whole game could have been just hunting down and getting rid of Order from England while reestablishing the Hidden One's Bureaus.
I thought I was finished with the story when I saw the ending cutscene with Basim being released into the modern day but then they wanted me to get to a stupidly high level before you raid a castle, so I closed the game and deleted it off the ps5.
I gave up on playing origins, odyssey, and Valhalla because they are so intimidatingly massive and they try too hard to be the related to AC but also really different. I’ll probably finish origins and maybe even odyssey at some point but probably not Valhalla
AC Valhalla was my first time playing a AC game since black flag, and I was a little confused at first, but after awhile I got into it, and I was having a blast! I will say the story was really bad, but I still had fun! The combat and the weapons made it worth it for me, and I liked the RPG of it. It made me go back and play AC Origins and AC Odyssey, I also bought the DLC’s for Valhalla, mostly for the weapons and unlocks, but I also enjoyed them! The Paris one is definitely the best story line. ☺️
Unpopular opinion, I loved the game. I do think we do have a liking for different times in history and it matters a lot too. I love medieval history so I enjoyed so many details of this. I love every game of the series in fairness for what they offer. Great video once again.
I actually really liked AC Valhalla, although I found it overly long and repetitive. I think a big problem AC Odyssey and AC Valhalla had were the "AC" in front of the title. If they'd been called Valhalla and Odyssey and removed the AC lore the marketing would have been worse but probably the reception would have been better.
That note to Aya read by bayek…. Didn’t bayek used to read it aloud?? I’ve recently replayed Valhalla and went back to it from time to time and he doesn’t speak it anymore. Did I Mandela myself??? I need backup on this
I liked the story, almost all areas have a different plot and the only ones that are connected are the ones that involve the sons of Ragnar, and I feel satisfied with the ending.
I need to play Mirage. Valhalla actually broke me personally due to the vast amount of content so I skipped Mirage. Then they showed AC Shadows and I got excited for AC again. I've beaten all of the other AC games. My favorite is probably AC Origins.
The lore in Valhalla is the best in the series and the stealth is very skill based I also love the. Open world of Valhalla and the combat is very cool and very brutal I love Valhalla my favorite game
I am playing all AC games again since the Magic the gathering set released and i am currently playing valhalla again. Its mostly good i think, i just wish eivor would be a bit more fleshed out. I also often feel like a bad guy, by raiding. Its kinda wiered. Other then this its fun.
Personally, I liked Valhalla much more than the Ezio Trilogy I played just one year before as a remastered Version on the PS4. The games with Ezio were great at their time, but nowadays they are just ok and not a big pleasure to play. The early ganeplay is just boring and sometimes annoying and it's always the same. AC 2 and Brotherhood have an interesting story anyway. The side quests are boring, annoying and shitty. The optional targets unessessary and annoying. Valhalla had a lot of variation, an amazing open world and gameplay, so it's not that bad that the story is very long. Just the riddles are a little bit too repetitive sometimes, but that's ok. I'm happy for Ubisoft that they made a great success with that game, their biggest so far I guess. Btw I love AC Origins and AC Odyssey!
I know it was historically correct to have the king survive. That is also why we needed a different final boss. It was very disappointing to finish off the bad guys and get Thor's armor and Moljinor only to have nothing worthy left to fight. Ravensthorpe is silly too. The same lines and animations repeated endlessly. No impact at all. All that work collecting resources and supplies to build the town and nothing really changes.
Sometimes I love Valhalla an sometimes I hate it to the core but I do like the dismemberment an decapitation an the gore no lie the beginning of the story was banging but towards the middle it was like a what the fuck an the mystery quest wasn’t it I was hoping for something like odyssey an crazy thing is I beat Valhalla twice the grind was insane 😂🤦🏽♂️
Valhalla would be better if they made some of the sagas optional and that you would stumble upon them instead of forcing you to do them and killing the pacing of the main story.
I personally loved this game, kept coming back for more. I can totally see why people disliked it tho. But I played it for the immersive open world, the soundtrack, the combat finishers, Ireland DLC with the druids was dope and the Ragnarok DLC was ok too. Skill tree was meh, but im not playing the game for that reason.
Valhalla was too long but tied the story to norse mythology in a great way. It also created imterest within me for the modern day of AC since like AC3. Also bringing back Jesper Kyd for music was the best decision they took cuz the music in Valhalla slaps. I got many soundtracks in my playlist.
I play games for story and I did not necessarily care for AC Valhalla personally. My God it was long & the Assassin/Templar conflict seemed like an after thought. AC Odyssey felt the same although I enjoyed it more. Ancient Greece was a much more interesting time period than the Viking/England stuff. I'm just not into Vikings or Norse mythology. I haven't even played the new God of Wars. They gameplay was fun for AC Origins, Odyssey, & Valhalla though. Out of the three, AC Origins is my favorite. I need to play Mirage to get ready for AC Shadows. I skipped Mirage because of Valhalla. I was like "s**t, I am done". 😆 Shadows has me excited again for AC and I have been playing since the first game so I hope we eventually get a resolution to the story. If/when they decide to reboot, I may bow out gracefully. I want to see this thing through though.
I never thought Valhalla was a bad game. All the RPG games are FAR from bad games and that just seems something that’s obvious. People complain because 1, most won’t see it as a good AC game, and 2, it’s Ubisoft so people will complain regardless. This game did a lot of things right, it just wasn’t assassins creed, it was an RPG(btw I am commenting this before watching the video😂)
I think covid ruined the development of Valhalla. As it forced devs to scramble their development plans to make a new one in that timeframe. By the time Valhalla launched they were still scrambling to find the perfect balance. I think thats the reason why prologue felt well crafted and rest of the game didn't.
I simply dislike Valhalla’s Transmog system. So much fun loot and stuff, but inconvenient to make it look the way you want. 50 currency per piece? When Odyssey made it free and at the pause menu? With all the emphasis on customization, this was a stickler for me. At the very least it’s possible tho.
Couldn’t agree more. Odyssey beats Valhalla in every aspect, except in Valhalla you really have a home town whereas Odyssey you only have a ship. But that’s it. Builds, weapons, combat, story , side and main quests, character etc. in Odyssey are just infinitely better
While the combat is decent, I don't like how they fight like anime characters in a game based on historical events. The old combat felt a little more satisfying, imo.
If the game was shorter or the arcs meant more, it would be a top 3 game in the series
This
I probably wouldn’t go that far personally

Aaaand if the dialogues and the characters as well were deeper. Each time Eivor opens his mouth I get the feeling that he has like like 20 IQ :D

I agree. The modern day story line in Valhalla is the best since the early games. Also I generally really enjoy Valhalla. Flaws and all
The story really is so long. The revenge part in the americas is so deep in the game that I basically forgot who it was we were hunting.

Valhalla is criminally underrated
Waiting for the part 2 on changing game when taking damage series
you mean part 3?
I loved Valhalla as a Viking game not a Assassin's Creed game
Valhalla had the deepest AC lore out of every AC
Joined your patreon was very disappointed there weren’t any oiled up ezio cosplays 🔛🔝
Thanks!
I'm glad Valhalla is getting some love. I thought it was extremely overhated. There are many things to dislike about the game, but overall, I loved it. I just wish there was a new game plus.
Nah Valhalla have a very strong fan base who love the game to death but odyssey is the better game for me
The story is just too long for no good reason
@@koyrion yea one time I fell asleep playing it 😭
@koyrion to give an objective viewpoint; I don't think the story is as long as one would think.
“I want to see the alliance map”
I want to see the alliance map.
I am pledged to AC: Valhalla
I should Go
The dice game Orlog and the crime scene investigations were great as well.
I put too many damn hours into Valhalla to hate it lmao
I hated it when it first came out but now I'm taking it slow and paying attention (and watching a lot of documentaries) and now I'm loving it.
Why most of this games thrive so much on Nostalgia to have memorable moments in its story
I'm surprised you didn't mention the assassination missions in the 3 city arcs being callbacks to the assassinations in the first AC game.
I actually love this game
What they did right: Collecting tons of money with that game.
But to be fair, they put a lot of work in it.
I don’t mind the game. Im actually enjoying it as I am playing through it a second time trying to 100% along with the DLC’s.
@@Mikebus585-nt6yy alright great I’m not reading all that
@@TheACGamer-w3b I am surprised you didn’t want to read my comment and then reply to defend for your own favourite AC RPG game 😏
@@Mikebus585-nt6yy origins is the best ac rpg game I hate most things about Valhalla but some of it is decent
@@TheACGamer-w3b but you still prefer Odyssey over Valhalla? 😂
also the jorvik arc had references to ac1 with the wine poisoning and doppelganger targets
I’m still salty to this day about not getting new game plus I enjoyed the darker vibe and the DLC’s. Plus, I wanted to see if I could get the order of engines and assassinate in a different way because there were some black box missions that you could do.
To me, there are 3 games, that are very loosely connected, in Valhalla:
1. England story
2. Hunting down the Order members
3. Being reborn "Norse god"/ Isu/ modern day
Basically, when you rescue Sigurd, he just waits around until you have almost finished the England story. There was one interaction from Sigurd between rescuing him and returning to Norway. The whole game could have been just hunting down and getting rid of Order from England while reestablishing the Hidden One's Bureaus.
Another thing that in my opinion Valhalla did really well is how they told a lot of Isu story through analogies.
Valhalla looks like its super immersive
Check
I liked the game the only thing was the long disconnected story that i didn't like
I thought I was finished with the story when I saw the ending cutscene with Basim being released into the modern day but then they wanted me to get to a stupidly high level before you raid a castle, so I closed the game and deleted it off the ps5.
i really enjoyed the mystical aspect in AC VAlhalla. The whole Asgard Saga brought a refreshing sight into the game
If you take time to enjoy the Arcs, It'll really feel like living in the Vikings TV show
I gave up on playing origins, odyssey, and Valhalla because they are so intimidatingly massive and they try too hard to be the related to AC but also really different.
I will admit when you play Valhalla they very first time, it's a pretty sick game...I never played the game a second time 😂
Hidden one's "what valhalla did right?" Before GTA 6 was not expected
Another great video!
One of my favorite games personally but I am bias because I am a huge fan of Vikings
Love ur vids
I actually really liked AC Valhalla, although I found it overly long and repetitive. I think a big problem AC Odyssey and AC Valhalla had were the "AC" in front of the title. If they'd been called Valhalla and Odyssey and removed the AC lore the marketing would have been worse but probably the reception would have been better.
I feel like im the only one who actually liked this game. Sure it had flaws but I just couldn't get enough of that viking fantasy.
I need a Odyssey version of this video
I still piss about the lvl 2 smoke. Why the hell did it go kaboom when lvl up
That note to Aya read by bayek…. Didn’t bayek used to read it aloud?? I’ve recently replayed Valhalla and went back to it from time to time and he doesn’t speak it anymore. Did I Mandela myself??? I need backup on this
I'm currently playing through the DLC, I just finished The Wrath of The Druids, a good 7/10, about to start The Siege Of Paris
I liked the story, almost all areas have a different plot and the only ones that are connected are the ones that involve the sons of Ragnar, and I feel satisfied with the ending.
Vallhala is such an underrated game
iam playing ac Valhalla need to 100 precent then on mirage then iam waiting for shadows
I didnt like Valhalla too much, but my favourite part of the game were the animus glitches, they reminded me a lot of the old AC's...
The ending just didn’t feel like an ending (I still enjoyed the game a lot)
Can’t wait for shadows tho
I have played like 470 h of ac valhalla. I did enjoy it.
I enjoyed it, despite the story not being all that, I do hate all the puzzle and key findings. It got really annoying.
Valhalla would be better if they made some of the sagas optional and that you would stumble upon them instead of forcing you to do them and killing the pacing of the main story.
i love the game i don't undestand all the hate
I felt the opposite about the prologue, I hated the prologue, but loved everything else in the game
I think thats the reason why prologue felt well crafted and rest of the game didn't.
wth you made me want to buy this game
everything bad about Valhalla : 55:23
what Valhalla did right: 13:12
I simply dislike Valhalla’s Transmog system.
