  • Is Scottish football "a one-horse race"? The Journos dive into Scottish football and the current state of top clubs like Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts, and Hibernian and if they can compete against Celtic FC.
    We look at the widening gulf between Scottish teams and European teams at Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League level, the challenges of managerial turnover, and the pressures from fans and social media. We also explore the stability of clubs like St Mirren and Kilmarnock under experienced management and strong board support.
    We also talk about young managers in the Scottish Premiership and whether they can thrive under pressure, how boardroom decisions influence team success, and what the future holds for Scottish football.

    Playing each other 4 times makes it less likely a team outside the Old Firm would have a chance.

    Teams like Hibs , Hearts, and Aberdeen should be competing for the title every season instead of thinking 3rd place is good enough.

    Celtic fan; BR keeps harping on about it and he is right, the league is too small for progression and Rangers are really struggling. They both need to be firing with the Edinburgh clubs, Dons and Dundee to make it at least decent. So there are two options from what I can see, A Northern European Super League with Scandinavia, Belgium etc. The easier and best option and the Rangers fans won't like it, a Scottish and Irish League, 16 teams, ten from Scotland, Belfast, Derry, Dublin(2), Cork, Limerick with a supporting national league system in each country with play-offs. It would be exciting, with fierce rivalries and much room for growth. The infrastructure is almost already there is Ireland through GAA grounds that are not used in the winter. Easily done and good for all 3 leagues. The 11m odd people in Scotland and Ireland would follow and stop supporting the premier league. It is time!

    As much as it hurts to say it can’t see any other team than Celtic for the next 20 years the rest of us can’t financially compete with them they are the Man City of Scotland now

    Peter a tad off with his assertion that "since 2000 Celtic have been completely dominant". His chronology or blocking timelines of chronology not very astute here. Rangers won 6 titles from 2000-2011, as many as Celtic in the same period. Celtic's utter dominance is very easily defined as being from 2012 onwards.

    At moment league is about money, if they make top league bigger then top clubs can bleed on in young players. BUT it might take years to get level back to what it is at moment.

    Talking down our game again, only focusing on the top two (hearts had a great run in the season, yes not sustained].
    Taking the words (derided at the time) by the ex county manager and letting that set the narrative.
    If Aberdeen and hibs don't make the top six doesn't that show its competitive mid table!

    The cross border league wouldn't be up for consideration until a European Super League came into being. That said, I do think both Celtic and Rangers would survive in a British League shorn of the top 6/7: Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd, Spurs/Newcastle. Hearts/Hibs and Kilmarnock should survive a British 2nd tier while the rest of the SPL would sit in the 3rd and 4th tiers of British football. If Wrexham can attract multi-million dollar investment from hobbyist sugar daddies, why not a Scottish club outside the Old Firm? (I've been to Wales....)

    • @camdenbhoy6192
      @camdenbhoy6192 19 днів тому

      Celtic would struggle the first few seasons that's a guarantee , don't doubt that. BUT so do every club that gets promoted.. but over space of few years they could compete. Take Chelsea club that's down the road from me, historically they actually dont have massive fan following, even now you could argue its partly the league that helps them. They often had empty seats at champs league games not that long ago. It's all about money, which I think over time Celtic wouldn't have a problem with, it's the initial 2-3 seasons, but a lot of clubs from top 5 leagues would struggle in Eng Prem League, not just Celtic & they already have money.
