  • In this video I explain how to do a slow and spinny forehand loop. This is a shot you can use to attack a backspin ball. But instead of playing with speed or power, you focus on a very spinny contact and a higher arc over the net.
Some players find this difficult to return and will often block or drive the ball off the end of the table. The slow and spinny forehand loop can also be used to set up a more direct and powerful attack. You loop, your opponent blocks back and then you drive the ball for a winner.
The demonstration in this video is from Martin Gray, a very experienced British league player.

A very important shot to add to one's arsenal ,not just to deal with pushes but to return a ball dropping close to table where you cannot deal aggressively with it ,good video ,thanks

I drill with a partner that has a very fast forehand loop, and smash. We drill all the time. Today we played a match, he slow looped his forehand, and it was SLOW. I literally was paralyzed and I saw it coming. My body could not move the bat into the correct position. My mind saw it, said I needed to move my bat to the left about an inch, and I physically could not move to the left! I was paralyzed but could see it mentally LOL. Awesome!!

    Awesome as always!
This was actually how i at first learned how to loop, as it was easier to perform when you dont have the leg/arm/timing coordination down yet!

I agree. When you get basic idea of brushing upwards, then everything else - the legs, weight transfer, acceleration becomes easier.

A nice thing to add is how you need to hit the ball with correct force from your body rotation, or else it will just go straight up when you try to do this.

    Hi Tom,
can you Please suggest bat setup for playing 1) excellent Flat hit 2) Good on Topspin 3) Superb Control and not too heavy to hold.
Above is my playing style, struggling to get the best setup for me
I know there is a trade between b/w speed, control & bat weight.

I notice that when the bloke in the black shirt plays the shot, his knees do not straighten as his arms goes up.

I realized I do this already haha but only when I’m in a pinch, I like to keep it as a trump card

Show what happens when it hits the net! If it bounces off the net continuously until it falls to the ground then try and catch it, if you can’t as it shoots off your hand, try and catch it again. If it takes two attempts , then that is a slow and super spinny loop!

Well, if you do this 90% of time you will be countered hard. I suggest take a step back away from the table so you're prepared for a counter.

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  2 роки тому

I wouldn't suggest doing it 90% of the time. But if you do it occasionally it can disrupt the timing of your opponent. Some players really don't like slow spinny loops. Against these players you could use more. But if your opponent is good at counter-topspin against slow spinny loops, then you should use more aggressive loops instead.

Nobody talking about 6:09 shot. It is unique. Who saw it.
