Reason Sonic.EXE has .EXE at the end of his name, is because of the Creepypasta he comes from. In that story, it had the typical "haunted copy of the game" trope (I think), and I believe the game in the story was an executable file, aka, .EXE file extention format. My memory is a very foggy on the entire story that Sonic.EXE comes from, as it's been several years since I heard that story. At some point, someone made a fangame of that Creepypasta, allowing real people to play through that game. In the actual playable game's file name, it's merely called "Sonic", but has the file format of .EXE, which the file extentions are typically ommitted in file names with most OSes (Operation Systems) by default, making the .EXE part of the name complete. Sometime after the fangame was released, more .EXE horror fangames were made at some points, spinoffs containing characters not even limited to only Sonic franchise characters. Even the Mario franchise is not safe from .EXE horror fangames. Sometime after the intial numbers of .EXE spinoff fangames, a continuation of the Sonic.EXE story was made as a story (if I recall correctly) that being Sally.EXE, and that too got a fangame recreation of it. Then later was made and released, a remake of the fangame that started that trend many years ago, that being Sonic.EXE version 666. And later, remakes of three .EXE Sonic fangames were released. Most .EXE fangames have only a bad ending for the characters involved. But, there was some fangame developers who did not wish for a terrible fate to the Sonic franchise's characters, and so, programmed secret methods to get a good ending for the characters in those fangames. Or, in the case of one .EXE fangame, making it incredibly difficult during runaway segments, to meet the conditions to get the true ending. You know that Sunky game that I think you played long ago? That you just walk forward to complete it? That game was a parody of the first .EXE Sonic fangame, removing horror elements and instead having happy and funny times.
Yup, it's a play on how execs can be viruses (and on the dread that comes with getting an executable you aren't familiar with), and someone made a story in which they go beyond the boundaries of computers (and reality itself, sometimes)
I have not seen this SONIC.EXE hack before. I am at the beginning of the video, but I like these creepypasta games, and I hope you play more of them, even though they are less family friendly than most of your content. Since they are less family friendly, however, I will understand if you don't play more.

That gave me nightmares when I first played it and that scream still plays in my head sometimes. That specific scream doesn't scare me anymore, but out of paranoia I mute every sonic.exe related video or game I'm checking out. I think it stuck with me because I hate loud noises, especially screams.
Tip for part 2, you can happily ignore Sonic.exe when he appears. He’ll always take the same amount of time to touch you, so you can safely run to the left all you like!

This would just be cool as a texture pack. I did notice a visual glitch in that last boss fight, the lava bubbles would sometimes be backwards, normal in EXE mode and vise versa. Of course you should play more, if you want to.
